The Captain's Boil

The food is OK but overpriced. The service is mediocre. There was no AC in the restaurant even though it was a pretty hot day. The place is on one of the busiest streets in Ottawa yet never seems to be busy.

This is the worse restaurant I’ve ever been to! I’ve been to Hunt Club branch and this Elgin branch was way too far from it. Elgin branch has a VERY Poor service! The server seemed like to just sit and focus on his cell phone! Low quality and quantity of food, less sauce and seasoning! It's a total waste of money and time! It's better for this restaurant to close down!

Got way too expensive, and the food quality and service went all the way down. It’s a shame this place used to be good…

Didn't like any of the food. I ordered three things and I only manage to eat 2 of my order, then I gave the rest to my companions. 1st appetizer food (scalops) is to salty, the 2nd main food (4 chicken tenders with fries) is okay and 3rd main food (chicken fried rice) came out with only spicy flavor, all of them too expensive. Waiting time is a disaster. Almost 1 hour to get a table and about 40 minutes for appetizer. Didn't enjoy my time.

The seafood is good and was cooked perfectly but the sauces they put in the boils are not good. I got the captain’s sauce and my husband got the garlic butter and it tasted really fake and chemically ESPECIALLY the garlic butter, ain’t no way it’s made of real butter and they put waaaayyyyy too much garlic pieces in there. Overall will not come back.

Ordered takeout, the seafood was flavourless…. Less sauce. Crawfish tasted weird, undercooked, like raw… the shell itself was so soft. Maybe it was old? Shrimp had barely any sauce. Fries soggy. Not ordering ever again… not good

Pricey but worth every penny, since we are talking about seafood!

I'm kind of sad that they don't serve the bib anymore when eating, just the plastic gloves. I was scared of staining my clothes.

I definitely won’t be going here again after the quality of food and service I just had. The servers were on there phone pretty much the whole time. My potato was raw, the rice was extremely dry, mussels were over cooked and when my food was brought out to me I had to wait 5 minutes to get a bucket and gloves and they didn’t bring it to me until I asked them and it still took them a couple of minutes to bring it over and it wasn’t busy. Extremely disappointed with the service.

N’aller pas a se restaurant si vous avez dans l’intention de boire un bon verre de vin avec votre souper parce que y’en a pas … bloddy cesar? Y’en a pas non plus.biere? Seulement stella artois! Alors je vais prendre un verre d’eau!

oublier pas d’apporter des ustensiles, assiettes, bol, parce que il vous donneront des ustensiles de plastique, bol en foam et votre repas sera mit directement sur la table dans un double sac transparent!

les portions son petite pour le prix … le manger était ‘’correct’’! Un bon big mac aurais fait la même job! (aller au toilette toute la soirée)

The toilets were extremely dirty and had not been cleaned for 10 years! The waitress had no idea about the dishes and the types of seafood. We had shrimp and clams, both were under seasoned and not really good. We had rice and potatoes as side dishes. The rice was forgotten and we had to ask for it and it was the worst I have ever eaten. As a potato side dish, there was only a single potato that was just thrown in the bag with it. As a flavor we chose Garlic, which was then simply large cut pieces and came in the plastic bag mentioned above.

This location has definitely gone down in service. I don't know if they are just understaffed, but just asking a little question is hard to get. The waitress does not pay attention to the customers. Also, don't use their washrooms. It smells so bad, must have a busted pipe or something.

On top of that, their prices have gone up quite high, and they got stingy with their sauce and portions.
Ordered the calamari, and it was so overcooked almost burnt.

The worst customer service I had so far. The server was on her phone pretty much the whole time, didn't check on us; had to go at the front to ask for extra gloves. She just put the brown paper and menu in front of us without saying anything. While we were ordering food, I told her to separate the crab from the rest of our orders since my boyfriend has an allergy to crabs then she rolled her eyes on me saying "oh dear, we can't do that since we boil it in the same boiler" blah blah blah. I would understand it if she said it nicely but no, the other table heard her too which was embarassing and annoying. She didn't tell us too that for the rice, its only the seafood that's available; given that there were 3 choices for it. After 30ish minutes of staying there, she started eating as well on the other table while playing with her phone and customers just approach her when they're ready to pay.what a shame.

When it comes to the food, the seafood boils were horrible. We ordered shrimp, lobster, and crawfish (worst) It's pretty obvious that everything was frozen. The textures were very chewy, watery, mushy. Flavor wise, it was bland. And surprisingly, the bag of crawfish was full of garlic but it doesn't taste garlicky at all. The rice was good tho that's about it.

Overall, it was such a disappointing experience. If you want to try seafood boil, just go to their other location in hunt club; its a bit better. Will never go back there again.

While the food was ok, its by far the smelliest restaurant I have ever been to. It just seems like a poorly maintained facility, with questionable hygiene standards. The management of this restaurant needs to do something about this as if affects the whole experience there.

Food was really not up to par with any fresh seafood that i cn make at home, lots of close clams, and very expensive, specialy for sides 4$ for a half of corn cob and another 4$ for half a potato LOL very expensive

Drove all the way there and paid for parking to realize their hours posted online are not correct. So disappointed.

One 2" corn piece in my bag, a half a hard potato in my wife's. Crawfish were overcooked and mealy. Doors weren't closing well so we were getting blasted with cold.

The Elgin location -
Freezing cold in restaurant, 1 and only 1 very rude waitress refusing to serve liquor but ok with beer, food was under cooked, very small portions and no proper tools to eat tiny snow crab legs. Bathroom cold and backed up. All the stalls were full of toilette paper and unusable.

Left hungry and disappointed

“To wake or not to wake” that is the question. I came to the Elgin street Captains boil to have an amazing night with the girlies, and that is not what I got. Upon walking in, I was met with a sleeping hostess, whom didn’t realize we we were there until my friend woke him up. Once he was woken up, he was rude towards us, saying that the store did not open until 5 (we were there at 4: 20). However, the website and the sign outside said that the store opened at at 12pm. From there he asked us to wait 10 minutes, and we said sure. Whilst we were sat, the host was rude to a woman ordering for pick-up. We ordered the food with no problems, but the food we got was warm at best, my egg still had the shell, and the potato was full with it not being fully cooked. The host/server (only one man working the floor) was hiding under the bar or was sitting on his phone at a booth. Not once did he come up to us asking how it was or if we needed anything, and when we did need something he would avoid us at all costs! The hunt club location is much better, and that is where I will be going from now on. It truly is unfortunate since Downtown Ottawa is supposed to be amazing with most food places. It’s understandable given covid and trying to recover from what that has done to restaurants and businesses, but the customer service really needs work.

Staff is non cooperative even didn't ask any beverage.

To much price 167 Dollars bill with poor service

L’établissement est propre avec un accueil chaleureux de la part des employés. Le service y est bien et la qualité de la nourriture aussi. Je me suis régalée. A recommander! On mange vraiment bien pour son argent

The waitress that served us coughed non stop during our time there. I was with a group of 6 people. All of us are sick, this isn't a coincidence. It was from the coughing waitress that served us. If you are sick stay at home, why would you go to work and infect all your customers. This was my first time at the elgin location, I was at the hunt club location last month. You can tell the owner of the elgin location is very cheap. The sauce is watered down with oil. The hunt club location is so much better. I am never coming back to the elgin location.

Terrible service, showed up at 7: 45 and they said it’s only take out only. Which is not on the website at all.

When I questioned her about that not being on the website she said we could eat in but have to be out by 8: 30pm.

What great a business.

Have been wanting to come to this establishment for along time but will never be back.

Terrible service.
