Chris was our chef and he was a delight. Informed us as we helped prepare, shared his knowledge generously, and provided top notch ingredients. Thanks Chris, we had a great time.
I booked as a work team event (interactive/french menu), and it won't be the last time! Chef Michael was amazing.we happen to have a team filled with discerned foodies and a chef of our own and each and every one was impressed and excited with the experience! Next time we will for sure book the Iron Chef experience and have some friendly team competition:)
Friends, don't hesitate to take advantage of The Chef Upstairs. I promise you won't be disappointed!
I really enjoyed the experience! Chef Chris led us through how to prepare a delicious meal, and it was fun! I'll definitely be booking again (in fact, I already have!).
Excellent experience watching, talking with and helping out the chef tonight, doing a south east Asian meal. Lots of cooking tips, they don't just follow a recipe. Very friendly, funny and personable chef and bartender, will definitely do another class.
Had an incredible time with Chef Chris and Jessie tonight cooking Italian with our executive team. Experience is one that we’ll continue to talk about! Fun time cooking, learning, drinking, eating & chatting. Thank you to Bonnie for her responsiveness and helping get the event organized for us.
Fun and delicious experience. Chef Mathieu was incredible and kept our group engaged for the entire time we were there. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a fun group outing with amazing food and staff.
What an amazing evening! Chef Chris was outstanding and informative not to mention the delicious meal we all helped prepare and enjoyed thoroughly! All-in-all a great experience!
My wife and I had been looking to come here when they only had the upstairs portion of this business. We love to cook so I planned a surprise date night and what a blast! Chef Chris and his barkeep Jamie were awesome! We had a ton of fun, had some great laughs with strangers and cooked and ate some incredible food!
Such an amazing experience at their Midtown location cooking class. So much fun learning, cooking and enjoying the evening with great food. It felt like a very unique experience for an evening out!
Thank you to the "Chef upstairs" for making our experience at your Midtown location a special one on my birthday. Chef explained everything clearly and led us on a culinary adventure starting with the delicious leek & potato soup to the tasty coq au vin and ending the meal with tasty crepes with chocolate sauce and berries. Our group started off like a frenzied group, but by the end, we were a cohesive team of sous chefs that prepared a delicious and beautifully presented meal. I can't wait for the next cooking adventure with another group of fun participants.
Brought my local and international coworkers here for a team event. A few were not pleased with the idea going to a cooking class for dinner. Those few completely changed their minds by the end of the event. We all had a blast! The food was amazing, Jessy's cocktails were delicious, and Chef Pierre was fantastic! We really enjoyed ourselves and would gladly do it again!
We had a fantastic evening at the chef upstairs for Valentine’s Day. This was the first time in three years that we were able to attend at their venue as opposed to doing it at home on zoom, and it didn’t disappoint. We started with warm kale salad with roasted squash, pears, crispy shallots, blue cheese, and a honey balsamic vinaigrette (of course I forgot to take a picture of that) then we moved on to homemade beet gnocchi, followed by steak Diane, which was accompanied with Napoleon of roasted vegetables and truffle white bean purée, which was absolutely fantastic, as well as pan, seared wild mushrooms with sautéed garlic broccolini. For dessert we had a decadent dark chocolate mousse. They also offered for an extra charge for Valentine’s Day cocktails as well as a huge array of wines. It was a very enjoyable evening and we look forward to next year. A big shout out to Chef Matt, who made the evening a lot of fun.
This class was amazing. We got to learn new skills, techniques and recipes, get hands on in the kitchen, and eat amazing food (with some to take home!) Really great energy and just a good time. Will be returning for a future class!
An amazing cooking experience with Chef Matt, and hostess Camilla! Hands on learning, great fun, good cooking tips and techniques. Amazing food! Saffron Minestrone, homemade Tagliatelle Ragu, and delicious deconstructed Tiramisu! Kudos to Matt for making it such a dynamic event!
See have recently held our corporate holiday get together at The Chef Upstairs. I can't thank the staff enough for a memorable event! From booking, to the venue, to the food and staff, we've had an amazing experience that had left us wanting more. Our employees' responses proved we have chosen well. We're already looking to book our next event with The Chef Upstairs!
I was celebrating an "important" birthday" at The Chef Upstairs with family and friends. The event exceeded all my expectations. It was absolutely the most wonderful party I could ever imagine!
Chef Chris and the staff were welcoming and incredibly attentive to everyone. The staff was polite and eagle-eyed, noting every glass that needed refreshing, asking if we wanted water, and making sure the room was tidy.
Seriously, I have never experienced service like that from waitstaff.
And Chris—the chef par excellence—made everyone comfortable in the kitchen. He effortlessly created teams and demonstrated tasks. He was informative—when people wanted information—and the food—OMG—it was delicious.
We started with a load of wonderful appetizers-samozas, a cheese board, crispy beef with teriyaki sauce, oysters, and latkes! We began with a roasted beet salad with a zesty lemon dressing. Next, was the wild mushroom soup with crispy parmesan topping. And then the main: a heavenly seafood risotto with shrimp and scallops. Finally, the birthday "cake": a flourless chocolate torte with berries and dolce de leche mousse. (I may be wrong about the mousse because by then I was floating:)
I was frankly astounded by quality of the food that all of the guests helped to prepare. Every course was delicious as were the appetizers.
Truly, this was the best party of my life thanks to the marvellous staff and the elegant venue.
I can’t wait to take some cooking classes with Chef Chris again soon!
We had a friend's birthday party here and it was great. The chef Brandon kept us involved as much or as little as we wanted to be, leaving plenty of time for everyone to socialize. The server Eleanora was super friendly and attentive, keeping our glasses full. Brandon was knowledgeable and funny and the food was yummy and unpretentious. Would recommend for events!
My two daughters just finished one week summer camp.they said the teachers are so nice and funny.the food they brought back are delicious.and they made breadfast fo me this morning.they still have one more week and they want to come back next year.
Great Summer Camp! My son attended the summer camp and had a fantastic time. He couldn't stop talking about what they learned and even made dinner one night for us on our vacation. We would recommend this camp for anyone who has some kitchen knowledge or someone who wants to start from the beginning. What a great way to teach kids to cook and to motivate them to want to learn more. The councilors were great and made it fun for kids of every skill level.
It would have been nice if you could have explained it to me like you did here in the email you sent me which just said you couldn't find a spot to fill. It came out as if you didn't really care. Pandemic or not I've had small and large companies who have tried to come to a satisfactory agreement with me when issues have arised. To each their own. This will be my last post too. Mom of 3 (special needs children)
We went to the valentine’s day cooking class with chef calvin and it was so much fun! All of the workers were energetic, friendly and funny! The food was amazing (like some of the best food i’ve ever had!) and we got sent home with the recipes that we will definitely try. I would highly recommend this to any couple looking for a fun and interactive date night
We had a great experience yesterday at the Vaughan location. Chef Calvin and our server were both incredibly welcoming and great at their job! It was hands on as well as educational. The food was absolutely delicious and filled with flavor.
My wife and I had such an amazing experience for the Valentine's Day Tasting Menu. The chefs were very friendly and personable, the food, wine and service all excellent. A great night out. Highly recommend. We will be back!
I signed up for 3 lessons. I very much enjoyed the lessons. I picked up some new skills and recipes. There is a nice casual atmosphere and people enjoying a drink. There is a good bit going on at the same time, people working in parallel and the chef giving instruction so naturally you won't hear all tips and instructions. The chef and staff were lovely people. 90% of the class were couples which might be a bit off putting for some people.
Experience was a bit soured though. I could not attend the last lesson. I requested to switch to another day. NOTE: The same class was running the next two days and had free spaces which weren't filled.
I was told I could not switch dates so $140 down the drain. They were well within their rights as there policy is to give 7 days notice (I gave 2). But seemed very unreasonable to me, would have been little effort and no cost to them.
We were given a gift certificate as a Christmas Gift and booked a class. Got the flu and contacted Chef Upstairs 2 days prior to rebook. Advised we could send someone in our place but could not rebook because they require 7 days notice. We do not have someone to send in our place nor would we want too. It was a gift for us to enjoy. I would suggest reading the cancellation policy very carefully before booking a class or purchasing as a gift. The flu doesn't give 7 days notice and even if I was feeling well enough to leave the house, the last thing I hope anyone would do is attend a cooking class and potentially infect other people. Chef Upstairs response: "Our cancellation policy must be agreed to prior to booking any class on our website and is re-stated in the confirmation email sent at the time of booking. If you cannot make it on Saturday, I hope you can join us for a future class"
I was excited to take the Canadian Winter Comforts class, with Chef Pierre Beaumier. On the menu: a spiced squash and ginger soup, cornish hen with maple-glazed root vegetables and kale, and maple-whiskey butter tarts.
All skill levels are made to feel comfortable right from the beginning. Before we started working with the very sharp knives, Chef Pierre gave us a thorough tutorial. We began with the basics like how to hold the knife properly to have the best control over what you’re doing. This was news to me, apparently I've been holding the handle too far back for years. No one was sent off to do a new task without support and guidance from the Chef. I’m actually glad we were placed on the soup team because we got to see our dish through to the end and learned tips on plating as well!
The large family style kitchen is reminiscent of a cooking show, with ample seating around the counter. Drinks are available to purchase before the class to enjoy as you cook and eat. Before the cooking begins, Chef goes over the menu, ingredients we’ll be using and demonstrates useful techniques. Then we’re divided up into teams to work on the various courses at the same time. Chef does an incredible job guiding a large group through the activity while empowering you to take initiative and make the recipe your own.
I genuinely enjoyed the experience and would definitely attend another cooking class with the Chef Upstairs. I learned a lot of useful skills that I’ve already starting implementing in my own kitchen. It was a fresh take on recipes I was familiar with and since I usually lean towards a sweater flavour profile when I cook, it was nice to experience savoury recipes I can use to switch things up at home. Chef Pierre was a great instructor! I was amazed by his multitasking skills and uncanny ability to seemingly be able to be exactly where he was needed at any given time.
Had such a good time at The Chef Upstairs! The Thai cooking class was fun and informative. I learned some great new kitchen skills. Even though you don't get a chance to work on every dish, I like that everyone works together as a group to create delicious meals. Chef Pierre and Dave were incredibly helpful and friendly. Would recommend a class to someone looking to learn new skills and cook interesting dishes.
Chef Cherry was a treat! She was patient and informative, yet still managed to make the evening a ton of fun. I will definitely do this again. Thank you so much!
Re: Kid`s Summer Cooking Camp While the instructors may know something about how to cook they know nothing about how to interact with children. To forbid a nine-year old from asking questions because you think they ask too many is contemptible. I will never send my child back here and neither should you.
I took cooking classes at the Chef Upstairs for a few months and it was such a fun time! Would definately recommend to beginner chefs. The food is fantastic and it greatly improved my confidence in cooking.
Perfect gift idea for your mom or partner. The best part about this class is how interactive it is. I've done LCBO cooking classes where you watch a chef prepare the meal, but in this class it's all you and your classmates - really adds to the whole experience.
My boyfriend and I did the Mediterranean grilling class and had a wonderful time. The chef, Pierre, was very knowledgeable and personable. The food was absolutely delicious and we were able to get involved in all steps of the meal - basically whatever we were interested in learning. I really liked that! The one criticism; there were 1-2 people in the 10 person class that had dietary restrictions (gluten-free and dairy-free). The chef decided to alter everyone's meals to be gluten & dairy free, rather than only modify the meals for the people with the restrictions. I was looking forward to feta cheese in my salad and homemade baklava, however, instead i received dairy-free cheese which tasted like cardboard and a different dessert entirely (which was still very delicious). Learning to make baklava was actually a big reason why we chose that class so it was very disappointing. I would definitely do another class, but I would suggest, going forward, you only modify the meals for the people with food restrictions as it ruins the experience a bit for everyone else. Overall we did have a great time.
Attended a Kids birthday party where they cooked amazing dessert treats. Couldn’t say more nice things about the staff here, they were very patient accommodating an absolutely fun. Keep note that it does get rather warm in there due to the ovens/stoves, So dress appropriately! For our particular event even though the kids were cooking they had sandwiches snacks and treats available for the rest of the adults. FYI washrooms on site, and a very clean place
