The Cherie Bistro

I love this place! They have a very pleasant, cozy atmosphere. The staff is great, and above everything, the food is amazing. The meal is well served, portion is large for one person, and the price is fair. I recommend the Chicken parmigiana which is my absolute favorite, it's one of the best in town.

Brunch here isn’t too bad especially with a party of 4 or less. The service was pretty straightforward and food was okay. Not outstanding but alright in a sense that what you order is what you get. You are also supporting a local business when eating here so that’s a plus.

November 2023: Went for the 20 dollar lunch special. Several choices available. I went for the turkey soup with the lamb as a main course. Both were excellent.

June 2022: Veal marsala with Lemon sauce? !? Tasted sour instead of creamy with mushrooms. Originally thought the veal was funky. Chicken marsala perhaps but sorry, this one isn't to my taste.

April 2022: Wednesday special of a Shiraz, Angus burger and an updated version of the bread pudding that has been seriously improved over the original. The double Tanqueray martini which was expertly made didn't hurt either.

November 2021: A morning of shopping in the cold and I was ready for a hot lunch. Starting with a double Tanqueray I opt for the Seafood Linguini. It does not disappoint. Filled with shrimps, mussels, squid and scallops. The accompanying garlic toast helped sop up the lite & tasty tomato broth.

August/2019: First of all thank you for replying to my review and offer of a complimentary main course. I politely decline in order to retain my integrity as a reviewer. It’s all in good fun of course. I’m just not in the habit of accepting freebies unless it’s my birthday and NOBODY knows when that is:)

Lunch time and I order a Caesar salad and Caesar drink to start things off. The salad is fresh, tasty and well presented. A squirt of lemon adds to the final touch. As good as the drink is, it comes with a plastic straw and no garnish. Given it’s a Canadian classic, I would have preferred a celery stalk or the often included pickled bean.
I choose the seafood linguine as a main course. One of the daily specials offered. A beautiful light meal void of heavy sauce/broth that are so often served. The medley of seafood works well and the pasta is perfect. This one is a winner.

First time for lunch at this new restaurant which I am told is still in soft opening mode. Ok, fair warning but they have been open for some two months now. The Waiter is clean and friendly without being overbearing. Perfect.

I order a glass of red wine to start things off. It arrives with several bits and pieces of what I am told is cork. Cork or not, floaters are unwelcome and quickly dealt with. Next will be the Steak Frites…steak with fries…requested medium rare. Although a fine piece of tender meat, the steak is well pass the rare part and comes medium to medium plus. The fries are crispy and flavourful but I feel the whole dish far surpasses anyone’s daily limit of salt. Two glasses of water quickly follow.

A variety of desserts are available and I choose the Bread Pudding along with a herbal mint tea. Beautifully served with fruit, it nevertheless comes to battle the salt by way of sugar. This thing is SWEET!

The minor food issues are nothing more than required tweaks and quite frankly, I’m looking forward to other meals such as the chicken and waffles. Pizza is listed on the menu as “coming soon. ” They also serve Brunch.

The restaurant is clean and well appointed. Easily accessible from Church Street with outside tables to the north and east sides. Windows all around.

PS: Calling your business by a French name (like Cafe California) would have required more than a peripheral Google search. The proper spelling is “Chérie, ” like Café. I know, the sign would have cost more but then you wouldn’t have people like me pointing it out to you:) I truly hope you get over the food bumps. Along with the service, Cafe California had a reputation for being hit and miss in that respect.

Great brunch. They give you s real knife for the eggs Benedict! It was so nice not having to wrestle with it.

This restaurant has exceeded my expectations! The service is friendly and attentive. Atmosphere is clean and comfortable, with some artistic touches. The food is delicious! I had an amazing mediterranean penne that was full of veggies, in a well balanced tomato sauce, and topped with goat cheese. For dessert I had a slice of chocolate cake which was moist and satisfying. Brunch here is also great, and they have a lovely patio.

I had a ghastly meal from them. When I called to complain, the person on the phone denied there being a manager. He was Indi@ň, those people are the worst, in honesty and integrity they have none of that.

Went here as part of our pool league banquet (shoutout to VPL!) and had the fish & chips (delicious!) and tried a few other dishes from friends. Definitely coming back for another meal.

We wanted to pick a nice place for our anniversary.great food but not really pricy. We wanted a friendly and pleasant atmosphere.this is what we found at Cherie Bistro!
Food was excellent, service was a perfect mix of attention and giving us privacy. We had the Sunday Roast Beef and found the portions to be generous and the taste was a delight. The smaller Yorkshire puddings were great for getting several tastes together on your fork.
We saved a little room for desert and it was worth it because the homemade bread pudding and crème brûlée were perfectly plated with fresh fruit.a perfect evening!

I come here often, the service is great and the food is delicious. Great neighborhood spot!

Affordable and delicious food, nice atmosphere. Waiters were very busy since it was rush service but they were very polite and accommodating.

5 stars based on food delivered through Doordash. Had the Paella and this was one of the best I've had. Definitely be ordering again!

Always a good meal at reasonable prices, clean and great service. It's my go to place in the village.

I go back regularly to the Cherie because of the memories it brings back from its days as the Cafe California. The staff are still wonderful and the food selection and atmosphere the same:) Thank you for keeping it the same but also improving it!

Love that this place serves breakfast items at lunch - pancakes can be enjoyed any time of the day! Restaurant is in a great location, and our server was so friendly. Very fair prices for the portion size. Although these were not the best pancakes I’ve ever had, I would be happy to dine here again and try some different items!

Ordered the Turkey burger with fries for take out. It was pricey for a burger but I figured you get what you pay. I was very, very disappointed in the burger. It was so dry I couldn’t finish it. The worst turkey burger I’ve ever had… I wanted to love it so bad!
The fresh cut fries were amazing. Presentation was good however I wouldn’t recommend the turkey burger.

This place is a lil Gem on church st.me and my fiancée went this past Thursday.i had the rib and wing special and she got the shaved prime rib with mash peas and yorkshire puddings.bothe meals where phenomenal.the service was great! Our server was very nice.played along with our lil banter that we always have going on whiskey sour wasn't on the menu but was delicious! When back in Toronto we will be back! Good job!

Wonderful restaurant with great service. Arjun was a terrific server. The menu is huge with lots off variety. Daily specials offered. Dined from the Tuesday two can dine for $59 menu which contains items like coconut shrimp and lamb. Portions are generous.

Great takeout meals, just like eating there.
Update Oct 16/2022. The great service and food has kept us coming back frequently. After tonight we decied we wouldn't go back until next summer when we are able to eat outside. There was a patron whose voice was so loud she could break crystal. Others were giving her annoying looks but she was oblivious. We were at the other end of the restaurant from her and we had to shout at each other to be heard. We eventually moved outside as eating in the cold was preferable.
Management needs to give soume thought to a few noise reducing applications; wall hangings.anything at all would help.

While the food was ok, the service was deplorably slow: ages before he came out to take my order, ages before he brought it, ages for everything! I even had to go in to ask for my bill. Horrible service!

Great food amazing staff and the price is very reasonable.im exited to try different options from menu there is so many.

To start with: fantastic service. I unfortunately didn't get my server's name, but he was friendly, professional, courteous, quick, and checked in often. It may have helped that I was here on a Sunday morning and the place was not particularly busy, but the service was exceptional all the same.

The food was also delicious. Well-balanced portions and a mix of different food groups to keep the meal both healthy and satisfying! The fruit was fresh and the greens were well-blended for a good mix of flavors, and the home fries and omelet I ordered were both outstanding. Highly recommended!

Seems like a pretty great addition to the village. I have only been on Church once since covid began so I didn't know Cherie Bistro. The food was good, the prices were good, the service was good.
All 4 of us went for the roast beef & Yorkshire pudding w/mash & a mountain of peas. Great comfort food. Fortunately I was hungry because they load the plates generously. Other dishes going by also looked delicious. A nice Sunday evening dinner for old friends in a convivial atmosphere.

I don’t typically eat brunch, but I tried their poutine from the brunch menu on a Sunday and was pleasantly surprised. It was a different take from the usual style of potato fries, but all the components of a poutine were there and worked well.

The service was great as well. I would definitely like to come back for their lunch/dinner menu.

I absolutely love it here! The food is always amazing and the staff are so friendly. I highly recommend the coconut shrimp.

Afternoon lunch, tasted the Cherie Burger. Came with onion rings and salad and soft drink. Staff were wonderful and friendly, checkups were great to see if we needed any else. Burger was delicious, eating here was pleasent. Gave 5 Stars
Hits - Very clean, portions were large, bill was fair as to eating at an establishment. Will come again to eat.
Misses - None to mention.

Have been to this restaurant quite a few times and I really enjoy coming here. The staff is very friendly and professional. My favorite dish is the Chicken Parmegiana and the deserts are also very good. They have free Wi-Fi. Parking in the area is easy using a private lot nearby. Feel very welcome every time visit this restaurant.

Ordered the roast beef dinner tonight (Saturday) and it must have been last weeks roast beef leftovers it tasted old and was tough. The carrots were barely cooked, my fork couldn’t even pierce them. The potatoes and peas were good but I was really craving a delicious roast beef. Maybe I’ll have better luck on a Sunday.

Rude ignorant sever. After being seated, we waited for a server. No show. I went inside the restaurant a and requested a server. Was told he’d gone down the street and would be back. He was NOT pleased to see us on his return. Food was delivered then No Service. We had to send another server to look for him. He returned, nasty, rude and ignorant. Just awful. Where is the management?

Update: Finally had a chance to dine in yesterday (August 21) and while the food was still great, I was unfortunately served my drink in a dirty glass (it literally still had lipstick on it, which I wasn't wearing). All that was offered was a free soft drink, which was declined since I wasn't about to drink out another one of their glasses. I also received a bit of attitude from the server after pointing out the fact they served me my drink in a dirty glass and I declined the free drink. I was very much looking forward to be able to dine in here and continue to support this restaurant, however it makes me incredibly uncomfortable that such little attention was put towards making sure the dishes you're serving things in have been properly sanitized prior to going out (especially during Covid!).

After several orders it's safe to say consistency is a strong suit of theirs! The food is always hot, the service is always quick & wonderful. The quality of the food is worth the price. As far as menu items I've tried: I'm completely obsessed with their bruschetta.have also tried the Clubhouse sandwich which was incredible.the Banquet burger, and the house burger, neither of which were disappointing. The fries and house salad are some of the best I've had in the neighborhood as well.
The menu is certainly not lacking in options or variety, and they've never once had an issue (or forgotten/ignored) a special request (i.e - No tomatoes, no cheese, different bun, etc)
Definitely looking forward to future visits and exploring the menu some more!

Staff here are so nice! Have been here for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the food is always amazing! Highly recommend!

We ordered two take-out meals, one fish, one meat.
The ordering system on the website was efficient and easy to use, the food was prepared on time and was hot and nicely presented in attractive take-out containers. The portions were copious but more importantly the meat, the fish and the vegetables were cooked properly and were absolutely delicious. In short, a perfect experience.

Impressed by the overall experience here, specifically the quality of food prep and the consistent and reliable service I receive. I enjoy the dish and chips because you get a good size thick cut of fish. Fish is thawed properly through the centre and the accompanying fries are well cut, evenly fried and salted. I also see that there are some specials on the menu that offer comfort meals like roast beef dinner or hamburgers if that is what you like. I don’t come often but I am happy to see that they have returned to full service because they are a popular venue.

Pleasant brunch place with great service, surround yourself with all the hustle and bustle of downtown Toronto while eating crab cakes on a potato pancake.

We love this place. I hope they don't become like the former. Must try their Cherie burger.

Thanksgiving dinner takeout from The Cherie Bistro! The butternut squash apple soup was especially incredible (everything was very tasty though). Friendly staff are doing a great job keeping patrons safe. This place is a real gem.

Service and the meal were stellar.
Mis def will return to try all the tempting treats on their menu.

Everything I have tried at Cherie or that my friends have tried there has been amazing and fresh, from chicken to pasta to risotto to seafood to steak to appetizers. Highly recommended!

Best menu in the whole village! Great specials and amazing staff. Good, bright environment with plenty of options to satisfy anyone's cravings.

Didn’t even eat here but just action of an employee here I wouldn’t eat here. My friends and I were bought food at the amazing restaurant beside this place called ginger. But it was busier inside so we waited outside and it was raining. So we walked down closer to this bistro where there was some cover from the rain and happened to be a patio heater as well. We started smoking and as soon as this lady from inside saw a few brown guys smoking outside she called someone then came outside and turned off the heater as if that’s what we were using. We all had sweaters on and could care less. But the fact that this patio heater was on this whole time when no one was using it and the moment a couple guys come stand by it you want to turn it off it was just funny and kind of rude. Wouldn’t expect something like this from the hospitality business. & I wonder if it was someone else of any other skin colour would they have done the same thing? Pathetic.

Great atmosphere, good prices and fantastic staff.always enjoy purselves here. Can't wait for patio time.
