Another fantastic experience at the Cheshire Cat! Amazing staff, excellent service, fantastic food and the perfect atmosphere. Definitely a must visit place for anyone who wants the ultimate Canadian pub experience!
When I was in Ottawa a few months ago, I was on the lookout for a hidden gem outside of the city.
Did my local friends ever find one at Cheshire Cat Pub.
Been around the Carp community for several years, Cheshire Cat Pubs brings local and British Pub fare with innovation and great flavours!
The Beef and Yorkshire Pudding was arguably the best dish I ever paid for about $25 and each bite was worth every dollar given its portion size and rustic charm in every bite.
However, the Sticky Toffee Pudding is the best $10 you will ever spend. Served with local Carps Creamery Ice Cream, the Sticky Toffee Pudding is nicely balanced and not too sweet which is perfect to end off any meal!
I can't wait for my next visit back to Ottawa to visit this local gem!
Went with friends to the Cheshire cat for a wonderful evening. There was a small lineup to get in and everyone was in the best of moods. Food was perfect. All of us enjoyed our meal. Additionally, the servers were hilarious and awesome and recommending what to get.
This is a well known spot and very popular, recommend reservations. Interior design is old school pub and there is a patio. Beer selection to suit all tastes. Menu covers all bases, ask about the weekly specials, for example the pub pie was lamb and blue cheese today- absolutely delicious. The staff are welcoming, friendly and efficient. They also have t shirts for sale. Highly recommended.
The food was delicious but a bit too salty and had good prices. Very nice and friendly service! This place had a chill atmosphere, definitely recommend!
Even though I haven't been there for a long time, it still has the best atmosphere. They were so busy but service did not suffer at all. I would only say that I wouldn't so many vegetables in the vindaloo. It was great overall!
Excellent dinning area. We had the Hot Beef/Yorkie and the Fun Guy Burger. The Yorkie is probably the largest meal on the menue. Both tasted excellent. The restaurant has a nice atmospheric vibe. Server was very nice. We were given some free beer sample for no reasons:)
Fantastic food and drinks, great atmosphere, and excellent service! Had the Reuben sandwich and the Hot Beef and Yorkie and a crisp cider. Amazing experience!
The food was great and the service was even better. Couldn't have asked for a better waitress than Saskia. The atmosphere was really nice as well. I strongly recommend.
What to do on a long weekend go to Cheshire cat pub my daughter says. Everywhere else is closed. Call in advance make sure they're open yes they are No reservations booked with only a few walk-ins. Get down there wait about an hour get in and enjoy one of the most best experience I've had at a restaurant. The food was great the staff was greater I would recommend this place to anybody that loves pub food. But if I did that they all would come here and I would never get a chance to sit at the table again.
Covid protocols are easy to follow with online info and reservations. The patio layout includes plastic partitions which aren't pretty but serve their purpose. Still a great atmosphere with great service. Delicious food, beer, and cocktails. Ice cream to go from the Carp Creamery was also fantastic.
Patio and inside serves by masked servers. Food was outstanding.so much I had left over for another meal. So tasty! Restrooms are available. Go again in heart beat.
Nestled between a busy road and a garbage disposal centre, this pub should have gone bust years ago. That it has not is a testament to its outstanding food, charm (located in an 1800s era schoolhouse), friendly service and loyal local fan base of people young and old, British descended (lots of them) and from everywhere else. Visiting here is like a quick trip to a pub in rural England.
The atmosphere at Cheshire Cat Pub was very nice, the food was decent. We dined in the covered patio area and damn the smell, flies, bees, wasps and general wildlife was crazy. It was like we were dining in a treehouse. The air was filled with a grease trap/sewage smell and the constant vistors which landed all over your person, table and food was unbearable. Hopefully indoor dining is better and smell/ insect free.
Update: had the Yellow Curry chicken and had bubble guts a few hours later
Great selection of beer on tap, went with a local pilsner from Carp, ON. Outdoor dining only at the moment but it was a very nice, open atmosphere with plenty of coverage if you wanted to get out from under the sun.
The wood-oven pizza was delicious and a great size for two people to share. Completely forgot to take a picture because I was so hungry.
Went for lunch after a round of golf. The perfect place to remain outside on a patio yet stay shaded from the hot sun belting down. Lots of great pub fare. My guest was celiac and therefore gluten free was a must. Not a problem at the Cheshire cat! I had a curry plate with haddock and I highly recommend that too.
Delicious food. Pleasant staff. Limit to time you can be at your table which is ok but service was slow and worried our 1hr 45m would be up before we finished.
Always a great place to eat. They found us a table even though we didn't have reservations, the food came out hot and the staff was helpful and pleasant. Highly recommended.
This is a go-to for a great pub experience. Their food and beer is always good but I recommend a reservation to avoid waiting. I would love to give 5 stars but didn't because the last time I was there, their food was sub par and my boyfriend bit into an olive with the pit still inside. We ordered one of their wood fired pizzas and loved the idea of all the fun combinations but it wasn't what we expected. I will say they have a great selection of beer cans you can purchase from local breweries, nine of which you find in the LCBO or Beer store. Despite the food mishap, we will be back as many of our experiences in the past here have been positive (and we will need more beer).
The Cheshire Cat never fails to impress us. We chose take out fish and chips to celebrate our 48 anniversary since we could not dine inside. We were sure it would be perfect as usual and it was. Despite being shutdown for three months we received Huge pieces of fish perfectly cooked with tons on fries and a nice coleslaw. Thanks for your dedication to great food!
This place has a nice outdoor patio dinning area and excellent service but the food was mediocre at best and a little pricey. My chicken curry was served with mushy cooked vegetables (probably cooked from frozen) and very little spiciness. My wife's fish was bland and the chips were blah!
It was such a pleasant experience! My husband and I came in without a reservation on a Sunday evening. We were told that the wait will be 20-30 minutes, and ended up waiting for 30 minutes while having couple of beers. Every single employee we encountered was extremely nice, and the food was out out of this world (had the fish and chips and a wood fired pizza). 100% will be back!
The atmosphere was very cozy and the food was really good. I gave it 4/5 stars because we smelled sewage throughout our whole evening. Even though we were outside. Other than that a very nice place to go.
Very interesting pub in the middle of the long carp corridor and close to the 417 (please don't drink and drive!). Fourth visit today June 4. Something is wrong, apart from the salad, the rest was well weird. Beef in gravy salty like hell, gravy must have come from a packet, beef stringy and tasteless. Chicken burger was declared disgusting by my son. Overall a very mediocre experience so I hope they get back to their previous standard once lockdown is lifted. Good thing is wide choice of beers and wine. First visit: They currently have a fair amount of frozen items for takeaway and a good selection of pub fare for takeaway as well. I decided to give the place a try for takeaway. My daughter always wants burgers do it was the bacon burger for her and I had the steak and kidney pie. Burger is nicely presented. Same with the pie. Very good salad and sauce vinaigrette. But the meat for the burger was dry and a bit too chewy, not that fantastic. Lots of flavours in the bacon but maybe too much competition from all the bits added to it. My daughter preferred the hamburger meat from the roulotte at near the quyon ferry (ouch)! The pie is very good. Pastry flaky and perfectly baked, steak and kidney very good and tender. Pretty good gravy that was perfect for the fries ;p but the fries themselves nothing special, no different from same quyon roulotte. So overall really good for some things, slightly less so for others but I would still go again when feeling flush (it ain't cheap at 23$ plus etcetera for the pie).
Great little pub! I was there for a concert, so it was packed and they gave great service and everyone loved their food (check out the buffalo cauliflower!)
The food is are quirky as the restaurant sounds with so many delicious flavors, you could swear you are going down the rabbit hole! We saw Craig Cardiff play up in the upper level for the most intimate concert just 2 days before Christmas! Very cosy and a fun place to bring friends and family to experience something new!
This place is insanely packed 7 days a week at any hour of the day. The food and huge beer selection is definitely worth it. The atmosphere is great but can be extremely loud.
Now a restaurant like no theta I have been, food simply delicious fresh as for the service is the best other place we've gone to it's one restaurant you have to go to appreciate the great food
The food excellent, they have a very large selection of beer/wine/liquor. Would go again for sure! There was only a little hiccup with billing but got fixed fast
Placed an order for take away however couldnt get in the door to pick up my order. Someone eventually came out with my order, and it was not the correct order. I've wanted to come to this place for so many years and ended up sorely disappointed
Best pub in the West end. Warm and cozy atmosphere with diverse draught/whisky selection. Menu is a a combination of classics made new and innovations made essential.
Food was fantastic and the atmosphere is unique in the ottawa area. It feels like a true english pub. Great place to meet friends or to have a drink and chat on a date night. Upstairs is a little cold though, I'd dress accordingly.
This place does a lot of stuff right. They have a small menu so it's easier to choose something, but all of the items are quite nice. They also have around 20 beers on tap, amazing for a small place. The restaurant has 2 floors and you can sit on either of them to eat. Highly recommend a visit to try the food and beer, although it is admittedly a little expensive
The Cat has an excellent and ever-changing beer selection. (I have yet to dive into the extensive whiskey menu). The food is a cut above; simple but delicious and prepared with a little flourish. Anything on the specials menu is worth a try, but the regular menu is full of winners too. And possibly the best fish-and-chips in Ottawa.
This pub is just awesome! In a nice cozy atmosphere, they provide excellent service and presentation of their amazing food. The portions are perfect and they have a very good beer selection. My wife ordered the short ribs and I had the cottage pie. It is out of the way but it is definitely worth the drive. No reservations on the weekend and it is packed but it is well worth the small wait. We will be back for sure.
Great unique pub. They have super awesome atmosphere and special interior decorations. Food are really good, we came as a-8-people group, everyone was really happy with the order. Highly recommended
Very much a pub from the outside and inside but don't be fooled: this is very much a fantastic food destination worth traveling to from Ottawa. It's a very cozy place, almost like the Manx. Great place to go after the Carp Farmers Market. Beautiful drive up in the fall. Prices are fully acceptable for the experience.
One of the best pubs in the area. Food quality and food presentation is top notch at affordable prices. They carry a lot of beers on draft from local micro breweries. The service is also great. I have never been dissapointed on any menu item. My favorite is the Fish and Chips as well as the Hot Beef and Yorkie.
Amazing, amazing, amazing! How did I not know about this place? One of my friends recommended it and I thanked them for it. The host was spectacularly hospitable, offering tasters of drinks we were interested in. The wait staff were attentive and friendly. The menu offered several dishes I was interested in and what I chose was delicious. Even though it's across the city for me, I'll be back for sure!
I absolutely love the Cheshire Cat. My favourite place to go for dinner. Great atmosphere, and homey pub food. Excellent portion sizes. Can be pretty busy in evenings, so I would suggest making a reservation ahead of time is possible.
One of the best pub/restaurants I've ever been to. It's a little out of the way for most people in the Ottawa region but is it ever worth the drive!
They do not do reservations on the weekends (it just gets too busy for them to justify holding tables). If you are planning to go for dinner on a weekend, arrive well before prime dinner time! Patio available during the summer - so this offers more seating when they are especially busy. Despite the possible wait for a table, the food is generally excellent, portions are generous, prices are fair and the service is outstanding!
Very hot summertime afternoons/evenings, considering how busy it gets, can get quite hot without AC. That's the only negative I can think of. Added bonuses: they sell a local Carp creamery's ice cream in pints (in the summertime sorbet too, delicious!) and also sell certain frozen dishes served at the restaurant for you to take home (meat pies, soups, etc). Beer connoisseurs should also give this place a try!
One of the best pub experiences hands down. A family run business that prides itself on impeccable customer service and great food. We are regulars at the Cat, my hubby for the beer selection and myself for the haddock salad and desserts. I have never had a bad experience at the Cat, it is usually always busy but with all the great service and food it's expected. Will edit with photos on our next visit.
Decent pub food with really good sangria! They have a great patio but the inside is cozy too. This place gets fairly busy for being a bit out of the way, but it's worth the trip!
Have been there a few times. Once the bottom actually fell out of my pint glass which was full and spilled all over. Very odd. Then the waitress spilled a drink on our table. That same waitress then disappeared and we got zero service at our table. I wonder if this place would do as well if there was some competition around.
This place is so good. I am in keto diet and was worried I wouldn't be able to find food I'm allowed to eat. I did. As a started I picked roasted cauliflower coated in cheakpeas and my main course was a delicious haddock salad with plenty greens. I left nothing on the plate. Highly recommend this pub.
