Brought my family and extended family. Great and polite staff. Busy on a Friday, but it adds to the vibe. Good music as well. Food was delish. Would recommend
Amazing food and tropical drinks! This restaurant makes you feel like you are on a Caribbean vacation. Food was a solid 11/10 will be coming back for sure. Extremely friendly staff
The food is just as good as it was the last time my friend and I visited, which was years ago at their previous location. I had the brown stewed chicken and my friend had the fried chicken. We both had the rice & peas, coleslaw and oxtail gravy. The meals also came with festivals which were soft and tasty. Both meals were delicious! Our server, Grace, was very attentive and a delight to speak to. As a bonus, the bathrooms downstairs were very clean, spacious, and tastefully designed. I will definitely return with my spouse who is a pescatarian given the fish and vegan options available.
I went to this restaurant for the first time on Sunday and I enjoyed the brunch. I feel like I was home in Jamaica. We had one server (Grace) for the three hours we spent there and she did an excellent job trying to attend to all the customers who was seated plus pickup. Great job Grace.
The food was inauthentic imo. I had curry goat it was under-seasoned and definitely not beta-pak curry lol fried chicken was undercooked (rubbery) and had to be returned. The in-house fruit punch and Servers Jada and Shabaz were the highlight of my visit
DISAPPOINTED - POOR LOGISTIC MANAGMENT FOR LARGE GROUP - POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE
I visited Diner's with a group of 20. I give it a generous 2 stars since the food was not terrible, but the service and logistics management were severely lacking.
Though reservations were made and confirmed well in advance, they failed in the following ways:
1) Lack of basic hospitality service protocol.
In any decent professional restaurant, your front facing staff includes - a hostess, servers, busboys and bartenders. However, our group was assigned ONE PERSON to fulfil all these roles which began the avalanche of problems for the entire night. This was no fault of the staff member who was assigned to us - but the fault of MANAGMENT in understaffing and overworking their staff. Our server had to take all our orders, make/serve drinks, serve food, issue receipts and clear plates, while her fellow staff members did little to assist.
2) Unprofessional behaviour from fellow staff member.
When we arrived, prior to ordering, we asked our server (a black female) to take a group picture. She asked her male co-worker to turn up the lights to get a better picture. IN OUR PRESENSE, he scoffed, ignored her, and just walked away, leaving her to turn up the lights herself, while she was left to also be hostess/waitress/bartender/busgirl. His behaviour reeked of misogyny, male privilege, and unprofessionalism, which was unchecked by management. If this is how he treated her in our presence, what type of behaviour is she subject to away from customers?
3) Failed to execute orders properly.
Several in our group ordered appetizers that were never delivered and/or took nearly an hour to receive. Appetizers are supposed to be served within 15 minutes of ordering, not AFTER the entrée or missed completely. When this was brought to the attention of our already overworked server, the chef came out to tell us they were out of the promised items. Then why did they take the order and only address it when we complained? Others had other missing items and/or wrong side order requests - it was a mess!
Entrees were delivered poorly. Many waited upwards of an hour, watching others eat. Clearly, this restaurant does not know or refuses to learn restaurant protocol on sequence and delivery of menu items. One patron shouldn't be finished their entrée, when another hasn't even received their appetizer.
When this was brought to management's attention, they offered no solutions, were condescending and passive aggressive.
4) Dishonesty in adding additional service fees without transparency.
I discovered AFTER I had paid and left the restaurant, that an additional 20% service fee had been added to our bills. Our group is quite generous, reasonable and did not want to fault the waitress for management's poor logistical organizational skills. Therefore, not knowing there was an automatic gratuity, I added a tip to my bill which meant I paid 38%! In tips as did several others in my party. Diner's corner in no way was deserving of such a high tip for such a terrible performance. I found this to be very shady since due to all the confusion and bad service, most of us just wanted to pay, leave quickly, and didn't examine our individual bills too carefully.
Therefore, I would vehemently NOT recommend this restaurant, especially for large groups. They lack basic restaurant protocol knowledge and worse - don't seem to care to change it.
Great Jamaican cuisine. Delicious! Ambiance is perfect for dining with family and friends. Shout out to Devar! Very personable and professional. Mention made to Anne, great customer service.
By far the cleanest place I’ve dined in Toronto and definitely takes pride in presentation but I was so disappointed with food. I ordered curry goat and white rice, considering it wasn’t busy I expected the food to be hot not lukewarm. For what I paid I expected a bit more on the plate too, honestly it was pretty pitiful. I try not to judge on taste because everyone has their technique, but there was wasn’t enough flavour, herbs etc. Waiter, politely, pointed out that I would find it easier if I tipped the rice from the bowl onto the plate…. Which would’ve worked if the rice was served hot and plate wasn’t cold. By that point I had enough. Overall, not a great Sunday dinner.
I called and asked if they had soup and a worker said yes and told me what kind. An hour later two minutes before my order should have been delivered it was canceled! I call and they told me they don’t have soup this is the most unprofessional restaurant I’ve ever had to deal with. I’ve ordered the same things at different times and was charged differently! Y’all need better workers.
The food was amazing, however, you may have to wait 45 mins to get your main but you won't be disappointed. Our server Ibn was equally amazing, very polite and a professional. I think they should get more servers but we do understand that the job market is slow at the moment.
The food is just ok. Ive had better Jamiacan food at my in-laws. The service was good. The portions are not big for what you pay for. Will not be going back.
The atmosphere is lovely, clean, and welcoming. The waitstaff was friendly, yet professional. The meal presentation is beautiful, flavorful and tasted AMAZING! The rum punch drink tasted refreshing and delicious.
All I’m saying is you receive value for your meal. I ordered the Jerk Chicken with rice/peas. Also came with 2 dressings, a salad, n sweet fried dough! All fa $15! Great costumer service by Ann and chef Shabazz came out to great us a warm welcome:) Beautiful restaurant️
This is my absolute favorite restaurant right now. The food was fantastic no matter what I ordered i was always delighted with my meal. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the food was very delicious and the hospitality was excellent, I will refer The Diner's Corner to any one who is looking for a nice clean restaurant to dine.
I always have a great experience here! The waitresses are greeting and engaged. Almost every dish is great! I go almost every week! My favourite dish is the curry goat! This is officially my SPOT!
Rude employee. Better know where the location is because they give unclear instructions, then hang up the phone, midday and the guy sound like he has no energy. Don’t care if your food is the best in Toronto, your employees need better training in the service industry
Edit in response: Didn't realize festival does not come with the dish, edited that part as I was wrong.
"It’s obvious that you are not aware of inflation over the last two years" what an out of touch response this is without actually understanding the core of the complaint. The core of the complaint is sacrificing quality instead of raising the price. If you want to raise the price to serve what you've always served in order to maintain revenue, go do that. Don't short change the customers on the same thing they've always ordered by feeding them more rice instead of the good stuff.
This is a business decision you made in which you think will keep more customers, but in turn you're just ticking off regulars who had been ordering from you over the years. Not raising price in the name of inflation while straight up admitting lowering the value of the dish is not something to be proud of "brother". It's reflected in "if price is an issue then the diners corner is not the place for you to shop", how about you focus on serving actual portions people are expected to consume instead of the price label If it's good food, and if you believe in your product, let the price reflect it.
Is that a good enough reason for you?
Original review: Small salad portion but somehow still bigger than that of ackee and salt fish, buuuuuuuut…
My favourite place to bulk buy plates of rice and peas. They give you about a cup and a half of cooked rice, taking up about 3/4 of the plate. During this economic turmoil and uncertain times, you can feed your whole family with that!
Hold up, it’s 20 bucks? Move along…
Guys, just change all your menu items to be “Rice and Peas with Condiments”, it’d be more accurate to what you serve
This was my 2nd visit. The food was good but the service was horrible! The waiter had difficulty taking the simplest order causing me to repeat the order 5 times. And still after 40 minutes I never got the beverage I requested. He was so distracted taking photos leaving other patrons unattended. Having eaten all over the WORLD I have never had to endure this. To further exaserbate the circumstance, he wanted to charge me for something HE forgot on a previous visit. That was the last straw! The only saving grace was the very polite young lady that finally wrote an accurate bill. For a restaurant that came so highly recommended this was a terrifically disappointing experience.
Our month is never complete without a visit to this gem along Yonge Street. I personally love the Oxtail but nothing can beat my love for the Festival bread. The vibe here is so cool, you will love the music too.
Manager Tim is the coolest guy here, make sure to look out for him when you visit and you will surely get a taste of not just their food but their friendly gestures too.
Very fresh and tasty! I love the festivals! The staff is super friendly! The wait time for the food is a bit long, understandable considering the food is freshly made.
This was my first time eating at this restaurant and let’s just say words can’t even explain how good it taste big big compliments to the chef. Even to the waiter even though it was busy and it was her all alone forgot her name but she was excellent however that Uber guy who was just being rude and impatient to her even though she had a lot of things on her plate even called her out her name was not acceptable and needs to be reported to Uber or something other from that definitely be seeing me again thank you for amazing food and great service…
I ordered a dinner like I always do on Saturdays but today I had a very bad experience = I went in picked up my order and paid the girl who gave me the the order and walked out to my waiting car only to be called back in by a very unprofessional girl with these words you did not pay for the order in front of the people dining in the room. I have been running a business with my husband in Toronto for the past 57 years and has never come across such rude and crude employees in a business. I will never order or go back from this day.
I phoned to speak to the Owner and the phone went dead on me. I would give zero if there was a place for it. Business thrive on the the people who you have in front representing your business.
I had the ackee and saltfish and enjoyed it immensely. It was delicious, the service was fast, and the atmosphere was great. Not at all crowded! (And the bathroom was spotless!)
Great little restaurant. Food was fantastic and the atmosphere was very warm and welcoming. Prices are very reasonable. I will definitely be returning to dine again.
I'm writing this review to flag a major safety concern: I came to pick up an order this evening and one of your servers was chewing on her nails, not wearing her mask and then went on to package orders and serve customers. I was put in a position where I had to call her out across the restaurant and ask her to sanitize her hands: (
I'm really sorry to post this because we like the food here but this was too concerning, especially during the pandemic.
The ladies are beautiful and sexy very friendly! Brittany was very helpful and has made the service a very good experience I will definitely come back to eat and bring friends to come eat!
The most amazing Jamaican gourmet style cuisine. You cannot go their just once. In fact, you might make it your new home. I really hope they maintain this high standard. EVERYTHING is delicious!
Very tasty. I ordered from them for the first time on Uber Eats, I had the stew chicken and rice and really enjoyed it. My boyfriend had the snapper fish and it was very good. Will definitely order from them again!
First time at the The Diner's Corner, (I was walking down Yonge St.with my daughter after a 25k hike down from Hwy. 7) and spotted this inviting restaurant. Very friendly staff and atmosphere (AC could have been a bit cooler). Ordered Jerk Shrimp as an appetizer, followed by Curried Goat for me and Brown Chicken Curry for my daughter. The Jerk Shrimp was fantastic, spicy (not for the faint of palate) but you could taste the fruitiness of the pepper and it enhanced rather then hid the taste of the perfectly barbequed shrimp. Superb. My Curried Goat was melt in your mouth tender with a thick and wonderful sauce, well complemented by the rice and peas. My daughter loved the brown chicken curry. Both the dishes were mildly spiced, and a perfect follow up to the superhot shrimp.ended with complementary "cinnamon rolls" (dont know the name) which were light and fluffy and not to sweet, really ending the lunch on a sweet note. Definitely will be returning to the Diner's Corner for great Jamaican food and ambiance (loved the music also).
The interior is very nice. Service is okay. I ordered a shrimp roti for takeout. The dahl puri pastry is rubbery, the filling bland. I was expecting more considering the price of the thing. Will not return unless my friends desire a place to drink rather than have a meal. I expected a great meal seeing that the interior is so nice. There are island food restaurants like the Danforth Roti Shop which have killer rotis for way less. I admire the interior but will not visit again.
Had a great experience! Great value and very tasty cocktails. I had the goat curry roti and the portion was great and the goat perfectly cooked. Will come back again for sure! The sauce on side is really tasty, they should bottle and sell it haha.
The New and Improved Diner’s Corner is absolutely stunning with incredible decor, lavish plating and intentional design. The Restaurant brings CLASS to Jamaican cuisine. There are many taboos regarding Jamaican restaurants like rude customer service, not having all the menu items and being stingy with portions. I got the clear impression that Diner’s Corner aims to dismantle that by changing the way we eat and view the Jamaican experience overall. Kudos to the new owners! Wishing you continued success and immense abundance! I enjoyed my experience and the food greatly!
Changing my review from a 5 to a 1 star. Do not order from this restaurant, especially for delivery. Every-time I order two large red pea soups they keep sending me one. Today I called the restaurant before I placed my on-line order to let the know I am ordering two soups. Again, they sent me one - and again another $8.25 down the drain. This is too ridiculous!
The food is delicious. Tried jerk chicken and then jerk chicken Alfredo. With second order, however, came in the restaurant to order abovementioned portion of Alfredo, was told to come back in 15 minutes. After coming to pick up the order, had to wait another 20 minutes though, seeing other customers order and get their food meanwhile. They threw in some festivals for the delay though.
The fried chicken was surprisingly crispy and warm when I got to eat it (40 mins after pickup)! Kudos to the store for good packaging and good portions! (You easily have enough for lunch the next day haha)
Waiting times could vary depending on how busy they are — but worth the wait! Looking forward to try their roti next time!
If you want great authentic Jamaican and Caribbean cuisine, this is the perfect spot to go to! The staff is lovely, the food is so flavorful, and this brand new location is stunning. I absolutely recommend checking them out!
Guys this place is amazing my friends and I had a really great time here, the food was the best i have had in Toronto, The presentation was stunning, the staff was WELL MANNERED for a Jamaican/Caribbean spot, was fresh smelling and clean the bath room were surprisingly clean fresh as well, we definitely will be back
I was very hungry and decided to try Jamaican food for lunch. The place is elegantly decorated and clean - particularly for a grungy stretch of Yonge. Looked promising. However, the service was awful. Staff were unattentive, slow, and distracted. When I eventually got to pay after patiently waiting there with an empty table for 10 minutes, the credit card machine was brought with no receipt and then the waiter walked out on break. Being a work trip, I needed that receipt. The CC machine was printing blanks. I told another guy and waited 15 more minutes while he did something in the back. I couldn't take it any more and left. The whole ordeal was absurd and far too long. Needless to say, I won't be back. And the roti was average.
So I was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica itself.but I dont think ive tasted real Jamaican cuisine until Ive experienced The Diner's Corner. The food is everything The evironment is hella welcoming and the Ppl
I came by about a month ago and had the jerk chicken and an order of the plantains. It was memorable so I had the same for lunch today. Both were really good again. Their chicken has a good amount of heat without being overpowering. The rice and the oxtail gravy together are really delicious too. The portion size for the price is also bang on. Highly recommend trying them out, will be back!
Walking by this place and decided to go in and check it out. I had the jerk chicken alfredo. It had the perfect mix of flavours. Creamy and fresh with just a slight kick of heat from the chicken.
If you're looking for a good place to eat (not just Jamaican food.but just a good place) you need to come here.
The best food in town! I drive an hour to get the best Jamaican food here. Such a cute place, love the vibes there and I always leave satisfied! A must try!
This place is the best so far I've visited. Great food, excellent service, clean atmosphere, great value for your money. The restaurant is very clean. Jamaican music at the perfect volume. The Bar is perfect if your rolling solo.
I love this place. Great food, friendly staff, nice and clean atmosphere, good value for your money. The restaurant is very clean. They play great, melo reggae music at the perfect volume. Nice bar to eat at if you're solo. Jerk lunch special is a good deal.
My friends and I came here for dinner and it was delicious. We ordered the fried plantain, jerk chicken and roti.all of which were so good. Dessert was just as good too.we tried the sweet potato cake and the rum cake. I'm looking forward to my next visit to try their other dishes!
The food was so delicious but the service was just not there. Despite not being anywhere near capacity, our waiter disappeared for the night after taking our order, the drinks never came, the water was never filled, and one of the two mains we ordered never came. The kicker was that it took 15 minutes for them to bring a payment terminal so we could pay for what did come to the table and get out of there. Again, this can't be understated - the food is amazing. We split the succulent jerk chicken meal - the chicken has plenty of flavour and good enough kick, with a generous side of seasoned rice and salad. Those doughy festival treats are named properly - they definitely taste like a festival in sweet, crispy twist donut form. Man, was it good.but it would have been so much better with the drinks and other food we ordered, plus some attention from the wait staff. We'll try their takeout for sure in the future, but wouldn't recommend dining in based on our experience tonight.
I ordered I blended fruit with all fresh fruits blended up and instead I got a tropical punch instead, and my son and hubby ordered the curry chicken roti and it was all chick peas and no chicken I was my first and last experience.
Great jerk chicken! The meat simply falls off the bones and it is seasoned so well. The staff are very friendly and the decor is lovely. Perfect to come individually or in a group.
Food is amazing, staff is very kind and friendly. Service is excellent and on point Try the curry goat and oxtail Very classy recommend everyone take a visit.
Brought the family here for dinner while on vacation here in Toronto. We’re foodies! We’ve been a lot of places and we know good food. I enjoyed every bite. Don’t disappoint yourself by going anywhere else searching for great Jamaican food, we didn’t!
My Hub and I had dinner here before going to our date night at the CAA Theatre at 651 Yonge Street, we were early for our date and felt like killing some time but didn't felt like sitting in a coffee shop, so as we sat in the Tim Horton's across the street, we became curios staring at the sign and decide to pop in, we were greeted at the door by a love young girl who introduce her self to us and seated us, we sat at the bar and was the best seat in the already packed house, we have been to a few Jamaican restaurants over the years including so popular ones and have found the were just OK, the experience here was excellent, the food was breathtaking, the are definitely in the top with the 5 stars out there
This was an awesome experience! Me and family enjoyed the authentic Jamaican food. Home away from home! Worth every Penny. Great vibes and the owner and staff was so friendly and humble. Will be visiting again!
Two words - slow service. Don’t come here if you’re in a rush or need to get back to work after lunch. The staff is slow in taking orders and even getting the bill. The food was decent, however, not worth the wait. Oh, and the high table was much too high for the seats. Not the best dining experience.
