The Duchess Of Markham

This cozy little pub on Main St. Markham has been around for quite some time. The inside is pretty nice with friendly staff and a pretty decent menu with a sizeable selection.

Food was good, but portion/size-wise (for my Guiness lamb stew) felt a bit on the smaller side. Wife thought her shepherd’s pie could be a bit bigger as well. The curry chicken our friend got seemed okay in size though, so I’m really not sure… I need a larger sample size.

Definitely worth a visit. I've been several times for their wing night and am never disappointed.

The atmosphere here is warm, welcoming, and a little loud due to the crowd. Basically, what a pub should be. The servers are all great, but it gets busy and you generally stand around for a few minutes before you can ask to be seated. They have multiple floors that are handled differently so you have to check each yourself if you want a table.

Anyway, the food is good, but the fries are a bit too basic for me, so I always opt for cactus cut chips instead. The wings and mains that I've had are good and I've never been disappointed.

My only ask is that they add an interesting beer or two and post/display their beer menu.

We made reservations for 10 people, got there at 7pm, had to find our own seats, waitress did not come over for about 20 mins after we arrived to ask if we wanted anything, it was very busy, we ordered drinks while we waited for the other people to arrive, ordered appetizers which were ok, wings were great!
My table likes to drink but the waitress did not come around too often 1 person did not receive their beer and after 20 mins she comes over and says " omg did my coworker not bring your beer? " Then when he ordered his food he wanted another beer, that beer also never came out.
The whole table was disappointed with the service level. We will never come back here again.

So nice to finally visit this patio again now with restrictions reading up. Great service and delicious food!

Staff was friendly and was able to accommodate us with an extra table with a patty of 20 something guests. Great wings on a Tuesday special!

Great neighborhood pub with excellent service and a wide variety of menu choices. Lamb stew is a standout.

This is my stomping grounds, so I always enjoy this pub it gives me "Cheers" vibes. Go where everybody knows your name lol. 1/2 price wings on Tuesday the servers are great and we were enjoying the music that was being played as we ate. We, my sister, my niece and I sang along with the wide variety of songs played in the background. Good time

This Pub is beautiful. I loved the atmosphere. All I had was a pint of liefman and that was an amazing drink. Highly recommend!

Bad customer service, dirty, food is what you would expect from a pub if you have low expectations. Vintage.

Came for the Sunday wings special. The salt & pepper is too salty for my taste and will get a different flavour next time. Got a live band at the back patio. Perfect place to chill and spend the afternoon

For our meals, I had Montreal Smoked Meat wrap with onion rings, one of my favourites on the menu. My partner had liver, bacon & onions but didn't really enjoy it. Found it a bit tough and didn't like the gravy on top. He'd try another option next time.

Only downside, found the patio loud. Many regular patrons and they can get quite excited with raised voices. Put a damper on our meal and conversation.

Overpriced. Food was awful. Shrimp teriyaki tasted like a microwave meal. Fish n chips were awful. Wings were ok. Tons of bees. The patio was nice except for the bees.

Had a philly cheese steak. Served on a wonderbread hamburger bun. Waitress stood at bar. I had to get up and go to thr bar everytime i wanted anything. Tons of wasps and bees. I and another table got stung by a bee during the visit.

You can’t tell from the appearance. From the street it looks like a traditional grill and bar. When you step into patio, it’s another world. Treasure place been found on Main Street.

Came over from England, very friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere. Good food and great beer (London Pride) will pop in again next year on my travels

Nice cozy atmosphere with friendly staff. Definitely order the ribs! Tasted amazing at great price point. Super tender and flavorful. More of a classic pub, no cocktails/ drink menu. Thick-cut fries were not my preference for the side order of poutine. Gravy was tasty but the fries kind of threw me off. Learned after I ordered you could have the poutine with straight-cut fries so this was on no fault of the kitchen staff. Deff gonna rmr that on my next visit. Overall a nice experience. Went on a Saturday evening and wasn't too crowded inside but the patio was full.no reservations needed. Will be back for more ribs for sure!
