Waitress had a horrible attitude for no reason. Only asked for the bathroom and to see the size of the pizza. Way too irritated. We're only visiting so tragic that they had to leave such a bitter taste in our mouth.
We loved our pizza at The Grand on Saturday! The service was outstanding and friendly. Our pizza arrived hot and delicious we were very satisfied. See you soon!
La pizza est comme une œuvre d'art comestible, avec sa délicieuse harmonie de saveurs, son fromage fondant et sa croûte croustillante. C'est un véritable plaisir pour les sens!
We selected this place as a last resort when deciding where to dine. Very happy we tried this place out. Highly recommend the burrata pizza. The food and the ambience was very good. Enjoyed our time here.
We were a group of friends who went there last night asking for a patio table. From the beginning the front desk hostess was very rude and disrespectful. We asked for a table for 7 which she said was not available unless we wanted to sit at the picnic table. One person among us has severe lower back pain and can’t sit without back support so we said no. I asked if they could put two tables together which she said no. I asked if they could offer us two tables close to each other. The whole time she was rolling her eyes and the mimic of her face was filled with dislikes and disrespect. Finally after a long wait we were taken to our tables. Half the patio was empty. Lots of empty tables close to each other but she gave us two that we were sitting with our backs to each other. At the end we decided to leave without ordering as this is not the appropriate way to welcome guests at a restaurant. It was not the experience one should have. I hope the management look ls into this situation further. We won’t ever go back to The Grand restaurant again.
The arancini here is great and they offer a beer/cider mix which is surprisingly delicious.
The pizza was okay and a bit chewy for my liking but I’d come back and try other items because the menu is quite vast and seems to have a delicious offering.
I'm glad they have a few vegan options on the menu, but the vegan pizza was very underwhelming. There was barely any vegan cheese or toppings, and the crust was burnt. The vegan cheese they used tasted like nothing. I can't believe I paid 23$ for this. The waiter was also quite rude to us.
They were good of accepting orders from me before but when I had a group of 20 plus, and tried to make an order, I was rudely dismissed and hung up on. I do not recommend these people for anything
Great homemade pasta made from scratch (or sourced from a very good supplier). Can't beat the lovely aroma and taste of their wood-fired pizza! Despite a tough Byward market hampered by the pandemic, the staff is super friendly and very professional in their hospitality!
Kids will love this place. They have many varieties of pizzas and Pasta. I have to mention this here, if you are vegetarian: you should order their veggie pasta…I love it
Great restaurant for Italian flavours. The staff is hospitable and positive. The queue outside the restaurant was long but luckily they checked smaller groups (like my wife and me) and we got a table quickly.
We ordered a pizza and pasta. The pizza was wood fired and it was amazing. The dough, sauce and the vegetables were of a great quality. Kudos to the chef? for the awesome pizza.
The pasta on the other hand has some scope for improvement. The rigatoni should have been boiled for a few minutes longer since it was crunch. The chicken needed some additional flavour. I would suggest to make the chicken optional because the sauce and other ingredients were perfect.
One of our favourite places and a must to visit when we come to Ottawa. Service has always been excellent as well as food quality/taste. It's usually busy (which is a good thing) - we've had to wait on some occasions (usually during peak business hours) and other times we got seated right away. Food pricing is on par for what you getting (imo). Thank you again for another awesome visit, looks forward to the next! Also, make sure to take home a jar of their homemade hot sauce!
Really quick service. The food is good too. We are vegetarians (we don't eat any eggs, meat or sea food) and they had enough options for our dietary restriction. The portion size is good too especially for nachos.
I tried the mercato pizza. It was really good authentic Italian pizza but quater of the pizza was burnt under so I couldn't finish. The service is good.
This restaurant is incredibly fortunate for it's ideal location in the market, but unfortunately the food here has never been great.the pizza is usually tasteless, crust turns out soggy, service is overwhelmed by the volume of customers that come through here.
Super yummy pizza! I love that Ottawa has this. The staff is a hit or miss, but when you’re hungry & the pizza is that delicious you don’t really care.
Our server was so nice, I wish I remembered her name! She was funny and super personable. My favourite restaurant in Ottawa, I'll have been 4 times this month
Service was good wait time for pizza about 25 minutes. Meat lovers pizza didn't have enough meat more like bread lovers pizza and the choice of meat cheese, sauce and paper thin crust don't come together well. More meat please.
Pizza was good, but more artisanal than your average pizza place. Not great at 2AM after the bar. Great place to go have a few drinks and pizza with friends though.
I used to really like this place but it’s gone severely downhill. Both mine and my girlfriends pizzas were fully burnt at the bottom. When I inquired, I was told this was the way it was; the “style” of pizza. Yet other 2 tables around us had perfectly light browned bottoms to theirs. We ordered the calamari which was very very greasy, and the spinach dip which was WAY too hot. It was sizzling over and burned the tops of our mouths when we ate it. The drinks we ordered tasted as though it was just fruit punch. One was called the berry limonata and the other was the azzuri. Niether of us drink, and are very small women, therefore any sip of alcohol we can feel.these, again, just tasted like sugary juice. Don’t waste your money on their overpriced “cocktails”. The server/host (can’t recall his name) with the beard/facial hair and slightly short is incredibly rude. He greeted us and just said “sit wherever you want”. Throughout our dinner we kept seeing him lazing around chatting with employees and staring customers down, it was very awkward. We had a bad experience with him in October, also, when he served us on the patio. Our server (female, wearing street clothes, brown hair and thin/short) was disheveled looking and didn’t seem to enjoy her job at all. I’m surprised at the attire most of the staff wear which is highly unprofessional. On top of that, we were never even offered water or condiments for our pizza (usually hot sauce and Parmesan cheese). Overall horrible tone. I highly recommend checking out **any** other place in the market before coming here. Very overpriced for what it is + service is crap. I guess because of their location and longevity in the market they think they can get away with below mediocre food and terrible service.
My elderly mother and I came here around 630pm on a Wednesday evening and were shocked at how bad the service and food was. There were more employees wandering the restaurant than there were customers, yet it took forever for our drinks to come. We each tried one of their signature cocktails and they weren't good. Stick to a straight cocktail if you need to drink. Once we ordered our food, it almost came out too quickly. A total of 5 mins or less to receive our appetizer (bruschetta) and pizza was directly after. Our pizza was decent, if it was about half the price. But for the price of $21 for a 12 inch, you'd think it would be cooked properly, not burned, and have ample toppings. Still edible and decent tasting.but again, not at the high prices they're charging. We were never offered water or any toppings for our pizza which is standard at other places. After inquiring we were begrudgingly brought water in plastic cups that looked filthy and finally placed down some cheese and sauce. The waitress didn't warn us that the orange sauce was hot.just another reason for my 1* review.
Wish I could give 4.5 stars, as it's not perfect, but I think it deserves more than it's 4.0 average.
One of the better places to eat in the market, atmosphere is nice and the decor is modern. Very nice patio in an ideal spot for people watching or just enjoying the market scenery.
The pizza here isn't amazing, but it is good and I have never been disappointed with it. Prices are pretty standard for wood fired pizza in the area. Drink selection is good and the cocktails are pretty tasty.
Only have one complaint; the staff can be a little cold and unfriendly. I always get this one waiter that seems like he wants to murder someone. Other than that, service has always been relatively fast and efficient.
We went here Saturday night with a reservation. Some how they did not have a reservation for us. My daughter was upset and we thought we would have trouble finding somewhere to eat that night. The manager did an awesome job juggling thing around and found a table for 6. He was very generous and compensated us for the mix up
The waitress Ellen did a fantastic job serving us and our pizzas were perfect. This is my 3 rd visit here and I will return again. This could have been a bad review but the manager took a bad situation and fixed it. Well done!
Tried the vegan pizza and vegetarian pizza, both were good although the vegan pizza wasn't great. It wasn't bad in any way at all but I have e had better. However the service was great and the waiter friendly and attentive. Great patio too, overall a pretty good place to go with a couple vegan options. Hopefully the vegan options will grow someday but it's a great start.
My family and I visited this Pizzeria during the Civic Long Weekend in August 2018.
Everything about our experience here was great. Even though the restaurant was very busy (being in the Byward Market District that's not unusual), we were sat quickly and were well attended to.
Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of our server, but he was excellent, especially with my children. Great service, courteous, and attentive. From my vantage point that evening, it seemed like almost every table and server had a smile on their face.
We ordered pizza and pasta and both were fantastic. We're coming back to Ottawa in March and my kids can't wait to return for dinner. The pizza and the pasta were both fresh and yes, the dough and the pasta noodles are made on site! Not sure about the sauces but it wouldn't surprise me if they were made in house as well. Well done!
With a restaurant located in such a busy tourist location, any place could just "mail it in" regarding service and menu. This place is a cut above in my opinion and we can't wait to return. Cheers!
The pizza was not good at all and wildly overpriced considering the poor quality. But the wait staff was friendly and upbeat. The restaurant looks good.
Fantastic staff, great patio, and pretty good pizza.
Wood burning oven is an awesome feature for any restaurant.
We were passing by and noticed the sign 1/2 price pizza during happy hour (Mon-Fri 3-6PM, and 9PM-closing). We ordered all 5 of the pizzas that qualified for the happy hour, and weren't disappointed.
Their outdoor patio is very cool and spacious. Our waiter (Adrian) was fantastic, polite, and very attentive.
The pizza dough was very good, and the sauce was good, but it wasn't anything special.
Overall it's a pretty good pizza, and the half price happy hour is excellent.
Great pizzas. Pastas are more hit and miss. A lot of the most delicious pizzas are the simplest. Sadly, the spaghetti and meatballs is disappointing. Probably the best patio in the Market.
