The Green Needle

I wanted to learn how to sew and took this beginner course last summer. This program has given me the confidence I needed to embark on my independent sewing journey. Thank you, Ludmila

For anyone thinking about learning sewing, I highly recommend taking the beginners course at the green needle with Ludmila. Its the best investment you could make into yourself, and will completely change how you look at garments and teach you the skills needed to sew your own!

I went from not knowing anything to learning how to use a sewing machine, the fundamental stitches needed to sew a garment, how to read a pattern, the various textiles you can sew with and how to create pajama bottoms.

Thanks to Ludmila and the green needle, I now have the skills to enjoy one of the most fulfilling hobbies a person can have.

The Sewing Basics class is excellent for beginners. I learned so much and now have the foundation to move on to more complex projects. Ludmila is very knowledgeable and a wonderful teacher.

I just completed the sewing basics course, and I enjoyed it immensely. The atmosphere is very welcoming. I didn’t know how to wind a bobbin or thread a machine when I began. Ludmila provided excellent instruction from start to finish. She cares deeply about her students’ progress and understanding.

Parking is free. The facility is set up well for learning. Overall, it was an excellent experience.

Ludmila is very knowledgeable and teaches you the foundation of basic sewing. It was a lot of information but once I started my first home project (making baby crib sheets!), I understood the sewing lingo and it made following instructions from a youtube video or other tutorials so much easier to understand! I highly recommend this course for anyone who wants to learn the essentials of sewing and doing their own projects!

I recently took an intro to basic sewing class with Ludmila and it was an absolute blast. I learned so much and now I have a snazzy new pair of pyjama pants. Honestly never thought I could sew anything, but I'm super impressed with what I made and the overall structure of the classes. Its not just diving into a project, we learned how to look at garments, understand the make of fabrics, different types of seams and stitches (which we assembled into a little personal reference portfolio). You get a holistic approach which comes in handy once you start the main project (and I can only assume in the next courses).

So go book a class now! Learn to sew; you won't regret it:)

The green needle is a great place if you are looking for a hands-on learning experience about sewing! It went over a bunch of foundations and basic stiches and seams.

It made what seems like an intimidating start to sewing much easier to grasp and pick up. It is one of the only places in Ottawa that offers a 5-6 week program and it was worth every penny.

Ludmila is a great teacher, super hands on and really has a passion for repurposed fashion.

I will definetly be taking another course and excited to start some of my own projects

In very little time my daughter learnt so much! Ludmilla is so patient, knowledgeable and encouraging. My daughter loves attending her classes. We live in Orleans and so it's quite the trek but honestly it's worth the drive.

The Green Needle was a wonderful experience to learn the basic and more. I took two classes and loved it. Ludmila is able to teach all the tricks of clothing sewing. Very interesting. I took the classes during Covid they keep the classes small, opened a window for ventilation and masks. The class was also a way to learn from the fellow sewers. Will take another class in the future. Had a lot of fun.

I enjoyed coming to Ms. Lucy's classes! Not only were her classes informative, but fun too! I was a complete beginner and I learned so many new things that I would have never thought about on my own (like notches in a sewing pattern!). It is clear that she took time preparing and organizing the structure of the courses she offers. I took the sewing basics class and although there were many new ideas/terms she introduced, she gave us samples and worksheets along with her explanations. She was also patient with us, even though I sometimes fell behind she made sure that I caught up and understood everything!

I took Ludmila's basic sewing classes recently, and it was amazing! Having zero knowledge and not knowing how to thread a sewing machine, I am now able to sew by myself! I learned about the sewing machine, about fabrics and threads, different seams and much more terminology I didn't know existed. Ludmila was patient with me because I'm pretty slow at doing things:) she taught me a lot of technique and tricks of the trade. I made my own PJs and worked with pattern for the first time ever! The whole experience was very pleasant and I learned a lot. I hope to take more classes in the future.

Ludmila is a skilled and passionate seamstress. I really enjoyed her basic sewing skills class although I was a complete beginner and I was really intimidated by the idea of sewing! I understood how to use a sewing machine, different stitch types, different fabrics and what they’re used for, different threads and needles and what they are used for, how to use a design pattern, how to determine grain of fabric, and many other things! I feel like I can take on my own projects now. It was a fantastic course. Highly recommend it!
