The Haam is fantastic, love coming here for date night when we're craving tacos and sushi. Good service, tasty options - our go-to tapas are the tako wasabi, tuna tataki, and/or chicken karaage (yummy, filling). Then tacos (all solid choices) and/or a special roll (the soft shell crab roll was quite good) to round things out.
This place is a hidden gem. The restaurant itself is smaller but the food is amazing! I didnt get to take a photo of all the food I ordered because I was so busy eating.
Possible hidden gem here. This isn’t a place you see on lists or must eat at destination articles, but the food was great. We had Gyoza, Queen roll, ladybug roll, bulgogi and fish tacos. Everything was great, service was great. Favourite dish was the ladybug roll. They got busy for lunch between 12: 30-2pm. Place is very clean. Really liked this spot. Will be back!
I love this place! I will admit, the first time I heard of a Japanese Mexican fusion I was skeptical. But after trying it, The Haam has easily become one of my fav restaurants! My fav dishes are the panko soft shell crab, tuna tataki (incredible), fries (simple but delicious) and the lion king roll. Great date night spot. They don’t take reservations.
The signature sushi rolls are surprisingly well portioned, easily shareable or if you're just a voracious eater. The lobster especially wasn't drowned in flavors but shone! The karaage too were big pieces with a tasty and light batter. The attention to the tacos were not an after thought either. All in all as fusion places go, The Haam leads by example and is a pillar of blending flavours, textures, and cultural love of food in the downtown. There can be a bit of a wait as the seating is compact; if a walk-in, expect a 30+ min wait.
Very nice fusion place. We got two Bento boxes and they were great value for the money, both in amount of food and variety you can get. The karaage was my favourite and the tacos were excellent, but I thought the rolls were somewhat mediocre.
Must order: Any of the hard taco options. Personally my favourite is the shrimp! 3 tacos will leave you satisfied, but if you are also ordering sushi, 1-2 tacos is good.
Also got the grande lobster special roll, the size of the roll was huge, each piece needs like 3 bites (tempura lobster, imitation crab, cucumber, avocado, salmon with hard taco flakes and bbq sauce on top)
I really wanted to try the soft shell crab but unfortunately crab is out of stock/shortage everywhere.
Another must have is the potato croquettes, crispy outside, smooth mash potato inside.
The torched sushi here is better than Tora.
Downside: 10% cash discount is only for take out orders.
I randomly picked this restaurant and it didn’t disappoint. The photos on here of the pressed sushi were fantastic, it did not disappoint. It was super flavourful and delicious. The taco wasn’t too bad either, it just needed some spice. The value was good.
WOW! I was truly blown away on the quality of food. Everything was FRESH and DELICIOUS! I typically don’t like Sushi, but this Sushi was FANTASTIC! The nacho chips were light coated with a powder to really make the chip shine. I recommend you get an EXTRA side of chips because they are really good and because the original portion is simply not enough to eat all the sides that come with it. The tacos were magnificent as well. You can taste the tenderness of the beef and all the flavours it had to offer as well. Everything was made very well and for a fusion restaurant, I highly recommend this to ANYONE who loves Mexican and Japanese food. I will definitely be visiting again to try something different on the menu.
Came here for the first time for lunch with coworkers and was so impressed.
I got the lunch bento and miso soup with korokke (Japanese potato croquette), spicy salmon rolls, gochujjang barbacoa tacos and guacamole. Great value for how much food you get and each item was well executed on their own. Everything was fresh, down to the guac.
**only con was that we waited nearly 1 hour to get our food as it was quite busy and you could tell how hard the servers were working.
Went in to celebrate our engagement with our friends and was full, put our names down, and walked around. Came back 15 minutes later to find empty tables, and no one had called us. Finally got in and was instructed that the last food call was in 15 minutes. Food came out at a decent rate but did forget some apps that were ordered first. As we're eating, they are literally clearing our dishes as we're eating off of them.
They made it very clear they didn't want us coming in near the end of their shift and made every effort possible to speed us out of there since there was an automatic 20% gratuity. I would review this process as it has created a bad atmosphere for the end of day customers who are there at closing.
Great little hole in the wall restaurant! Wish I could come here all the time. The staff were good, on top of delivering decent service. The tacos are so yummy and taste very authentic. But OMG the sushi was amazing, just everything on the special rolls menu is so different and well presented, also so so good. Very well priced and very unique. Loved the urban comic book atmosphere. I would definitely go again and just grab a bunch of sushi.
Always a go-to spot for modern Japanese/Korean fusion. Lots of options for pressed sushi, sushi rolls and tacos. I recommend any of the pressed sushi, the Grande Lobster roll and bulgogi beef crispy shell tacos. Unique decor and good service, they try their best during peak hours. For take out, their party platters are crowd pleasers.
Make sure to get there early or else might have to wait 30 min for a table (if group). A group of 6 were obliged to pay 20% gratitude. Pricey. Food recommendations are the guac and chips (1 chips refill for free), queens and volcano rolls + spicy salmon pressed roll.
Cannot express how amazing the gochujang barbacoa tacos were! We stopped in for a late lunch, and had drinks and a couple small plates. Sushi was fresh and presented well, drinks were delicious. Service left something to be desired, however I would return and recommend this place.
This is my favourite restaurant to eat sushi, tacos So far everything I have tried is delicious sushi is amazing, fried chicken and tacos is really good. I wish the place was bigger and kid friendly
Believe me I've eaten a lot of food. The Haam was an incredible eating experience. Great spot for a date or just to hanga fang on some serious flavor. Would recommend to any traveler.
Incredible food and really fast service. They have tons of gluten free options and their atmosphere is very cute and vibey. Have been back twice now and absolutely love it!
Quality went down so bad. They also charged for the hot sauce lol. It was not even house sauce, it was just Tabasco. I used to come to this place a lot but now it is not worth it.
