Went for dinner on Thursday, I had the burger and fries and they had the grilled cheese. It was lightly toasted at best, therefore not having that desired crispy crunch. The burger patty was lost in the massive bun, but was delicious once I found it. Wonderful fries with great dipping options. Loved the decor, but felt squish in like sardines. Might try one of their take home options next time so I can hear the person I'm talking to while I eat.
Won't be returning. Horrible service. My friends and I spent our whole lunch in shock over the lack of service. We also had a table full of dirty dishes from all the surrounding tables next to us which was gross. Super disappointing experience considering the price point.
Stopped by on a warm day. Had a session IPA and a vegan burger (by leaving off the sour cream of a vegetarian burger). Craft beers on tap and in cans/bottles. Tables are partitioned. Vintage décor. Good, prompt and pleasant service - my waiter was excellent.
Great draft selection but food was lacklustre. Veggie burger was substandard and dry and they served only home made ketchup which was more like a tomato jam and did not work with the fries.
The Hintonburg Public House is a wonderful place to go for a drink or a meal. I like to bring a book and grab a couple of beers and I never feel awkward going alone. The staff are all lovely and prices are great.
I am highly disappointed. My girlfriend and I both left this establishment with a stomach ache. The food we received looked nothing like the photos by other reviewers. As well I am astonished for the amount I paid for this meal. $70 for 2 for brunch at an establishment of this calibre is hilarious (considering what we ordered)
On a side note - the waitress was very kind but I would still never come back.
Enjoyed their selection of sharable vegetarian dishes. Really enjoyed the mushroom spread and pickled onions. Was a great place to drop by for a laidback Friday dinner.
I had a craving for a burger and a few people suggested I try this place. I was so disappointed. After tax I paid over $20 for a very small burger. It was nothing like the photo I saw on the menu/website. For the price I paid I didn't even get very many fries. A side note- I ordered for delivery and didn't think I'd have to ask for condiments like ketchup & mustard. (lesson learned) It was a very plain burger and not at all like I read in the reviews and from people who suggested this place. Waste of my money. I wish I had taken a photo so people could see what I mean. (I just read another review about how this place makes their own ketchup? I guess I did really miss out.jeez)
Ordered a cpl drafts and the Halloumi/squash/arugala salad and the Pork Riglette. I don't have one fault to find in this establishment. I adore the tight fresh menu, the atmosphere was very comfortable and homey with great pieces of art on display (some of which are for sale). The server was amazing, very knowledgeable and not afraid to find the answers when I asked (I am highly inquisitive when I like something). Two meals, four beverages, with tip, I was expecting a much larger bill and pleasantly surprised. I will return again I highly recommend HPH
Reserved for a Festivus lunch for my work team of nine. Beautiful location, safety protocols in place, excellent food and drink! We had a wonderful time! We will be back!
Fabulous place. Food is amazing. The marinated cheese curds are to die for. Tomato cumin soup is delicious. Fabulous homemade ketchup. Waiter was a great guy who was real friendly
Not sure what the good reviews are talking about food-wise cause the brunch at this place is just straight up not good. Probably the ambience and beer? Maybe the cozy decoration? I'm in agreement with the criticisms the other low-rated reviews left: food is overcooked, over-seasoned/salted and at a very expensive price-point given what they serve. Drinks also overpriced. Clearly nothing has been changed since those older reviews.
- Smokie was one sausage with 2 eggs poached, potatoes and a salad. Salad was I'm pretty sure.salted? I thought I was going crazy at first but the salad that came with our other dish ended up also being super salty so it wasn't just isolated to one plate. One of the salads also included pickled onions which were also waaaaay over-salted and it also felt like my mouth was getting bludgeoned with star anise seasoning.smokie/eggs/potatoes weren't bad I'll give them that. However. 22$. Yeah.no.
- frittata - don't know if I'd call it a true frittata or, really rather, a very flattened and sad omelette. As above, someone in the kitchen decided to start salting the salad to a poor result.potatoes decent. 16$ for basically a sad omelette, potato and small salad.
- wedge of waffle - oh god, probably one of the worst parts of the meal.small, firm, over-browned, cold that took some jaw muscle to chew. Rest of the wedges probably sitting around in the kitchen right now for who knows how long until the next sucker orders one. Definitely wasn't freshly made. "all dressed" was whipped cream and some blueberry. 3$ for plain. 6.5$ for all dressed.fool me once.
- drinks - can only comment on the caeser - pretty sure it wasn't mixed/shaken before it got to the table. I thought I was drinking one of the worst caesers I've ever had until I decided to mix it with my straw.better.however, at 12.5$ I thought it was gonna come with some flair on the toothpick or something ya know? Nope just rim seasoning, that's it.put a pickle or something on it at least to make me feel like I didn't just fork over a wad of cash for nothing
also ordered the rillette but the server forgot about it.we declined to keep the order once we asked again at the start of the main meal and honestly, probably glad we didn't pay for it considering the other food.
Anyway, can't comment on dinner but I'd never go back for brunch again. It honestly felt like I was getting gas-lighted eating the meal cause the price-point made me think it was going to be much better done but really it was poorly executed and expensive.
Especially with the pandemic, I would have really hoped more attention and effort went into the dishes to justify the prices they charge or else I can't see how there could be repeat customers any longer.
Enjoyed my first visit, and will plan to meet friends here again. Small restaurant sets up a fun vibe, with the right beer and food menu to enjoy a night out.
A great place to meet friends for a chill evening. Decor akin to grandma's country house. But so are the plates etc. Tasty but limited options for food, and they need to be a little pickier about their on-tap beers (a few non-winners). Both food and drinks are a on the pricier side.
Confused by all the good reviews. I think people who love this place are more fans of the vibe/hanging out with the regulars than they are of the food itself.
The restaurant itself was not very clean when I went. Our table was sticky and the whole place smelled strange and musty. The food I ordered was ice cold, stale, and completely and utterly tasteless.
To top it off, it's very overpriced and the servers were very hands-off.
The only person I know who likes the food here is a heavy smoker so I don't really trust her taste buds.
Go to Bar Lupulus instead, or if you want a drink go to 10Fourteen.
Ordered fish and chips on doordash. Really disappointed considering how great the reviews are for this place. Slaw is a side that you have to purchase, so I opted out. $27 later. The fish didn't have an ounce of flavor and wasn't the least bit seasoned with salt or pepper. Just flour. The fries weren't peeled and had a ton of black spots on them. The tartar sauce somehow taste's more like fish than the fish itself.
Very relaxed and Cozy eclectic ambiance. Erica was doing an absolutely amazing job and is super friendly.very much enjoyed the burger and arugula halloumi salad.
I don't know what to tell ya, the chef makes the most beautiful food with love and consideration and the owner and staff are the nicest people you'll see in a while.
In regards to cleanliness, they are perfect! They follow every health guideline and more! You get to Really enjoy your food when you order from them!
Really enjoyed my dinner at the Hintonburg Public House. Interesting restaurant with lots of character. I had the Smokie (sausage) and although it wasn’t completely filling, it had great flavour. Finished off with the two dessert options that were fabulous. Will definitely be back for another meal here.
The Hintonburg Public House is a lovely little restaurant in the heart of Hintonburg. Beautiful set up, and decor. The restaurant has such an inviting feel to it. I've been going for a few years whenever I'm in Ottawa, and I've always had a great experience. Everything from service, to food and drink, to cleanliness. Prices are reasonable. I recommend visiting if you're in the area. Can be quite busy in the evenings on the weekends.
Good selection of Ontario craft beers. We were a group of 6 here on a Sunday afternoon and my only suggestion is that the service could've been quicker considering how quiet it was.
Friendly service but the food was really really bad. Everything was bitter and you could taste that they used very old grease for their fish and chips. Ditch the custom ketchup, replace your oil more often, and make coleslaw from fresh non-bitter ingredients - that should lead to definite improvement. I ordered two pieces of fish and could barely stomach eating them; it's my favorite food, very upsetting.
I’ve been here twice over the past week and have really enjoyed the vibe and overall friendliness of staff. Erica, specifically, is really easy to talk to and seems interested in getting to know you. She was quick, efficient and so sweet.
I had the grilled cheese for dinner and loved it! The bread was to die for.
Came in at lunch and ordered the fish and chips as it was the advertised daily special. I never have huge expectations when ordering a daily special; however, this plate exceeded my expectations. That coupled with outstanding and friendly service from an attentive and bubbly Chelsea, ensures I will be back soon to check out the other items offered here.
I had my birthday here last Friday and the HPH took such good care of us! We were a large group (16 people) and our server was so attentive and friendly, in spite of the fact that our group was a bit loud. I will definitely be back here soon.
A great restaurant.just had the best "homemade" grilled cheese ever! Very tasty salad dressing. Friendly service. Love the atmosphere and decor. Will definitely return.
Great service. We were a group of 12 no slip ups. Had the grilled cheese and split a ploughman's platter. Loved them both. My picky eater son devoured their fish and chips.
Really sweet A/C unit on a hot summer day. Well laid out room with a classic Ottawa cabin look. Decent local beer which is part of the Ontario craft beer passport program. I'd definitely return for a pint.
Nice to see so many different people enjoying themselves.from couples on dates to entire families. Great food and very nice atmosphere.oh, and wonderful staff!
Burger was fine but I just didn't enjoy their vibe here. It tried very hard to hipster, to an a degree where it's inconvenient to the clients. Service was fine as well, just the theme/presentation and prices left a bit of a sour taste.
Cozy atmosphere. Eclectic decor. Great beer menu. I ordered the burger. While it was delicious and juicy, at almost $20, I felt it was a bit overpriced. The veggie platter was lacking. The carmelized onion dip tasted like Knorr soup mix and sour cream. I wouldn't order it again.
Went for an afternoon break from work. Had salad and water so probably not the usual pub clientele but the server was friendly and the salad was super delicious. I totally recommend the warm root vegetable salad.
