Came here with my coworkers for lunch. Excellent service, Mamun was very accommodating for our group of 20+ people. Food was great for the price- my favourite was the chicken chili and mushroom. Naan bread was fantastic and freshly made. Atmosphere was cozy with nice furniture and tasteful instrumental music. Would highly recommend for a peaceful and tasty lunch!

Nann is very delicious, goat curry is my favorite one. Very good restaurant, absolutely recommend it!

My first visit to The Host and I tried the lunch buffet which had excellent variety and food taste. The staff were very friendly bringing fresh naans and tandoori chicken to the table. Great value for money too. I was so impressed I made a reservation for the Sunday buffet for a family celebration. Well done!

Brought a group of 12 people for lunch, the food was great (as it always is at the Host). The table service was excellent, the servers clearing our dirty plates as my group went to get seconds (or thirds!) of the lunch buffet.

Mamun was a excellent attentive host regarding the lunch service answering questions about the food, making sure the buffet was stocked during the busy lunch period, and meeting the other requests my table had during our visit.

Will be back again!

I will go back I went for the lunch buffet and it delicious. Not spicy at all but you must be able to request more heat.
Simple 8-9 dish options and all were delicious / fresh. Not a huge amount of choice but that didn’t bother me. For the price and the delicious dishes, well worth the $20.

Amazing experience at the host! Amazing food and great service. The pakora appetizers and the garlic naan were especially delicious; soft and crispy.
I appreciated the cloth napkin, the seating and the music. I’d love to try dining on the terrasse when it opens!

Badest restaurant ever visited when i ask for food they said chef is tired will never vist again

I went today on mothers day and they had a buffet. This is something they should have told us when we called for a reservation. Anyways the food is usually good but for the buffet CLEARLY the quality had been comprimosed. The food was cold half the pots were empty, the naan was NOT buttered. The dessert was great but the gulab jamun was collld too. Im actually very disappointed because the a la carte menu is actually good but the buffet was absolutley horrible

Absolutely amazing service at The Host. The manager asked if we were fasting (Ramadhan) and I informed them we were, they gave us complimentary mango lassi’s each. We ordered an appetizer of samosas, they came before the food which was amazing. For the main we ordered butter chicken + naan + rice + Raita. The quantity was a lot for two. The price was very fair for fine dining because the interior of the restaurant was upscale, and the food was high quality. I enjoyed my experience. The only thing that could’ve improved my experience was the lighting. It is very dark in there and it made me nauseous but that’s a personal issue ha!

Delicious food and excellent service. We have gone 2 weeks in a row and had consistent quality. Our server Milen was highly attentive to our needs and made great recommendations on dishes to try. I look forward to our next visit.

I have been so many times to this restaurant and food is always amazing no complaints about food but one thing that need to be improved is service which doesn't match the food quality and I’m always disappointed with service…

We placed an order via Uber eats for No onion garlic paneer curry, and the curry received had onion. What's the point of keeping No Onion No garlic option when you guys don't even read the order properly before delivering it to the customer?
I had ordered no onion garlic option due to religious reasons, and I ate that Curry by mistake because I assumed that this restaurant would be sensible enough to follow the order and not give as per their terms. This is completely unacceptable.

I follow NOG option and I believe I would have been able to differentiate between onion and cabbage, it's not the first time I ordered NOG option from this restaurant, but it's the first time I put a complaint because of the quality of the food. I have already filed it with Uber, so don't think have anything more to discuss here. Anyway Thanks!

I ordered online and arrived on time expecting to pick up my food. When I arrived they seemed confused, said they hadn’t received my order, and then made me wait more than 25 minutes and then I still had not received my food. So I had them cancel my order. I saw another person with an online order show up and he received the same treatment. I’m not sure if dining in is better, but I would strongly recommend not ordering online.

Arrived in restaurant with a booking for 8: 30 at 8: 35. Had to wait 15 minutes even though had a booking. Order was taken 15 minutes after that, had to walk to the server in the other part of the restaurant, no one came for 15 minutes.
Order has been placed and no food has been served, its been 30 minutes.
The ambience is above average, dim lighting, but the restaurant is too crowded and the layout could’ve been 100 times better. The tables are small.

Update: food is good, service below par, seemingly untrained servers, food being taken off tables, i felt like i was in a Karen restaurant and theyre being rude on purpose by taking my plates in which i am still eating. Thumbs in curry dishes while carrying food. Not returning here.

Post Bill Update: 18% gratuity charged without clear communication. No mention in the restaurant about it.

THIS IS NOT A FINE DINE RESTAURANT. Pricing isnt worth the food. Let alone the gratuity. Staff is not trained professionally.

I am writing this review because of this store manager. He is an old Indian man with very little hair. I am not a customer but a 3rd party delivery person. I came to grab an order for a Delivery and he treated me really bad. Unfortunately, I do not think he is fit to serve anyone at the store with his bad attitude. Regardless of the fact that I'm not a customer or if I'm a delivery person he should not be rude to people entering the store and treating as worthless. It is the delivery people who are bringing business to you guys and you should not treat us terribly. He needs to be taught customer service and how to approach and talk to delivery people otherwise we will stop taking delivery packages from this restaurant.

I was there on chirstmas.first thing is that you have to wait literally 45 -50 minutes for your food.but I am writing this review because of scam they are running.the lady working as cashier and host add on 15 % gratuity without letting me know, i know restaurants add gratuity but it was table for 2 only and it was not even late night.she did that so fast on machine thought i wouldn't see but as i use to work as a restaurant manager i understood what she did.on top of that she handed over the machine with another tip option.then i asked her like, you already added 15 %, she felt awkward like ohhh yaa.

Guys always pay attention to receipts they are bunch of crooks. To be honest in my 7 years in canada this is the most dishonest restaurant i came across.

Our server was so kind and knowledgeable. The food was AMAZING! SO fresh. Definitely recommend chicken 65 and the seafood sizzler plate!

Food was really good here. Went on a lunch hour break. Service was extremely slow. I had to go get the waiter a few times for more water for the table, for the bill and for takeout containers. Price is reasonable for downtown. I definitely prefer the Richmond Hill location for their food, service and atmosphere.

I would recommend this place for their food but not for the service we received.

Did a reservation and no table was available when we reached there despite we had mentioned our emergency while doing reservation. On top of that, an employee was so rude he was like “we waited for 10 mins but you didn’t show up so we gave it to someone else! ” (No idea what did they took contact number for while booking a table for us!)

Saturday evening last minute plan for dinner - was lucky to find a table for two.
The ambience was good, and decent songs were playing on the speaker- at a comfortable level. I had to mention music because at some of the other indian restaurants, the music is so loud you can't have a decent conversation with the person sitting across the table. They have a good selection for vegetarian options in appetizers as well as main course. Food arrived within acceptable wait limit. Spice level was good, and food was delicious. Would definitely visit again.

Had their bhindi and paneer tava masala with naan and lacha parantha. Naan is way better than lacha parantha but could be a little thinner. Overall the taste is really good. This is coming from a person with ‘hard to satisfy taste buds’.

Toronto Elm Street downtown July 22 2022 Friday 7 pmI very slow I call the staff to bring the machine (debit) card to me but the staff asked me to go to the counter and pay. The staff here are LAZY indolent slow languorous slack, how come the customer will adjust. It should be them that should adjust July 22 2022. I am sitting on table and I calling them on my phone to bring the machine for debit card but the male guy on the bar is Lazy indolent sluggish torpid dull bone-idle impassive. Is that guy the owner if he is the owner negligent

Just ordered pick up from this place…. The food is too good.samosas are small but amazing taste… angare kabab tastes so good.got complimentary naans.soft and buttery…not dry like other places, loved it.the food is fresh and tasty… only regret, that i never tried this place earlier even when i live like 5 mins away from this place!

Overall it was okayish. Didn’t enjoy the taste much. Garlic naan was good. Onion kulcha was a bit raw. Dilliwala butter chicken was rather like tangy chicken with chicken breast pieces not well marinated. Tandoori chicken was okayish. Gajar halwa was excessively sweet. Good service and vibe.

Customer service was amazing, and the food was impeccable. Would recommend and go here any other time

We Tried this restaurant couple of times last month and I would say it was worth the visit. We ordered Mila Jula veg appetizer (vegetarian platter), chicken biryani, fish curry, navratna kurma, and aloo paratha. Everything was fresh and delicious.

The service is fast and the staff is polite. The ambiance is fresh and the tables are spacious. Mutton/ lamb biryani is a must-try.

One negative star for navratna kurma was very sweet, and the food was a little bit bland I think one level spice-up could fix this.uber maps still show the old location address which needs to be changed from the restaurant side. Other than that everything was perfect.

We stopped here on a whim. The aromas coming down the street. We went inside and got the best meal. So good

The only place in GTA where you can eat authentic Indian food. The service, food and the ambience are really praiseworthy. I do not recall the name of the hostess that took care of us but must mention that she is an asset to the Host Cuisine. We will surely visit again!

Food is decent, but overpriced, other nearby locations offer food of equivalent quality for 30% less.

This is one of our go-to places in downtown Toronto for authentic Indian food. The staff is very welcoming. Highly recommended!

Worst customer service!
we asked for extra2 rotis they said they will take the order as last order and then without any prior warning they came back 10 min later with 1 saying the kitchen is closed and can’t serve us anymore. WTH! We are paying for the food and not asking for free.they should have told us and we would have placed order timely accordingly.
Also we had asked for small bowls at beginning of meal and they forgot about it and dint even bother to say if they had it or not.also the place looks dark and sad from inside kinda dull ambiance.would not go back again

An Uber order remained undelivered for 2 hours since the food wasn’t ready for pickup due to delays at the restaurant. When we followed up with restaurant the person on the phone was extremely rude (even raising his voice) and did nothing to try and resolve the problem. Quite the disappointing experience.

Great food! Not the most convenient location in terms of parking but the food makes up for it. Their service staff are amazing super friendly. Looking for proper authentic Indian, this is the place!

Best location in the city. The owners and employees are pleasant guys who take pride in the food they serve. Just because it's a franchise doesn't mean every location is the same. This location is by far the best. Highly recommended.

Went in the summer with my In Laws to celebrate their birthdays. We are of Indian and South African decent and take our food seriously! The service was exemplary and the food was authentic. Our family left happy. (No easy task believe me!)

Let’s start with the good - amazing paneer tikka and garlic naan. I can honestly say it was delicious! But the rest of the food was very average. The ambience and decor was also very average. Something I found very annoying is that for the longest time they were playing heavy rock music and I think after half an hr they changed it to indian/Desi music. When I asked they said some people don’t like Indian music ……”they are coming to an Indian restaurant”. Personally I thought that was a rubbish reply but hey if that’s how they want to run their business that’s their decision. I am only the customer.
We ordered the gobi mushroom appetizer and there was no Gobi in there only cheese and mushroom. The other app we ordered was patho ki chaat but ended up being normal chat. We asked the server and he said yeah they haven’t printed the new menu…. ”okay”. He was nice enough to remove that from our bill because it became one of those expectation vs.reality situations.
For mains we ordered their dal mak, koftas and navratan korma - all very very average dishes.

I used to love going to the old Host on Prince Edward… I am sorry to say - not a fan of the new one.

People trying to defame The Host restaurant, a little for your knowledge this restaurant has been up and running even before most of you were even born, if there was something like this, it would have been widely known but since there isn’t please stop defaming the business. I started working with them as an International student since 2018, this was the place which feeded us, only an international student would know what it is to cook for themselves after a day long college and work, there’s never a day we don’t think about the work or workplace or the people we work with. Never a single encounter for missing SALARIES or gratuities. Please stop playing these games and if something actually happened why did no one report to the owner, he is always accessible just a phone call away but he was clueless when he found out from these fake reviews. Please treat people the way you want to be treated!

It’s very shocking to see people posting fake reviews to de fame The Host. I worked for this restaurant for more than 5 years and loved every minute working there. When I started working there, I was an international student too and it was my first job in Canada.

The owners treat the staff like there family and they are always there to support.

I personally know almost everyone who works there and I am sure that everyone feels the same.

I cannot believe that people are using fake reviews to defame the restaurant because they cannot compete with the hospitality and quality of this restaurant.

Sadly! They don’t pay their employers specially students. They hired my cousin and let her work for 15 days and when she ask for her pay check, they refused her saying that we don’t like your work and we don’t need any more employees. So they will just hire you when they need and will not pay you back even for the day you work. Shame on you.

I started working at the host as an international student 2 months back and it is my first job in Canada, i must say the salaries are always on time and the staff feels like family.

Below feedback for my dine-in experience in August, as compared to my last patio dine-in visit of July:
1. Portion size seems to have reduced by a quarter.
2. Food taste remains very similar.
3. Drink prices seem to have gone up.

One of the authentic East Indian food restaurants I’ve visited in Toronto. The staff are knowledgeable and passionate about what they serve. The food is quite authentic, and taste good.

Food was good wasn’t impressed with chicken malai tikka
but the only reason m giving it 5 stars coz of the guy mohit

4 shrimps for $20. It is really expensive. But the foods are not that special. It is not worth it! Do not recommend.
P/S: the owner lady is super nice to us. Because of their hospitality, I think I will come back here again to see if their foods quality gets improved. If it does improve, I will give them a better rating.

I ordered Malabar shrimp thaali and Tandoori chicken tikka thaali through Doordash and liked the portions of each item - both in terms of quantity and quality. It was enough for 3 people and taste was awesome. I’d like to visit the restaurant once the lockdown is over.

One of good place to visit for patio with India taste. There starters are actually good but the main course option are limited and decent. Overall good environment to enjoy with friends and loved ones.

I’ve ordered from host like few times through UberEats and they’ve the bestttt biryani! I don’t know if it’s the fluffy rice or chicken or light spices, it’s just different!

If you are vegan and UberEats here, do yourself a favor and order Aloo Paratha, Bhindi Do Pyaza, Chana Masala, and Dal Tadka (optional). It is just the best food combination in the world for me. Don't forget to add notes for (very) less oil or other preferences you have.

I have ordered out and dined at The Host several times, and have mostly liked it. But recently I have noticed that there are quality issues with their food. During the pandemic, I have ordered out from here several times, and while many times their food was fresh, often it was a bit stale. Recently I got food poisoning from their tungdi chicken biryani, which was on sale on ubereats. The chicken may have been stale but since I trusted the quality of the restaurant I did not pay much attention to it while eating. I hope the restaurant takes account of their food quality and continues to keep up their standards.

Had a very good meal here. Most importantly, my date absolutely loved it. Nice ambiance, decent service, and good food. As per the norm with indian cuisine, it's prudent here to inquire as to level of spice.

It was good in bits and pieces. The staff is but certain dishes were not up to the mark! Me and my wife both felt bloated after the dinner.

My partner and I were here on Valentines Day weekend. I understand that it is a busy weekend, but even though we had reservations we had to wait for 30 minutes to get a table. The service was good, but it was a bit slow. Food also took a long time to come but it is likely because it was a busy weekend. The food was delicious though. Chicken 65 was fantastic.

Really really great Indian cuisine. Try the chili naan, and the veg starter! Great service, wasn't too busy for a Friday evening.

The food and hospitality was beyond expectations. The manager was extremely courteous and professional, we were given great customer service. He ensured we were comfortable and everything would be in place. Would recommend it to everyone!

Simple, elegant decor, pleasant attentive staff. I enjoyed the lamb vindaloo, Dahl, okra with plain naan. All were enjoyable although the vindaloo was rather mild and the mango chutney was a simple sweet jam that didn't add to the meal. Overall the experience was above a 3: star and somewhat bless than 4 stars.

My boyfriend and I went here for his birthday (on a Tuesday night) and of course it wasn't busy. We still made reservations for 8pm tho.there were a couple of people seated/eating when we arrived. Even tho it wasn't busy they had a reserve sign on our table of which is a nice touch.

Once seated they'll serve you water and give you a starter (sorry I don't remember what it's called and I don't think it's on the menu - correct me if im wrong. It's the first picture below).

Also wanted to add the my boyfriend and I are vegetarian so everything we ordered are veggie.

Staff was very friendly, decor was elegant and overall atmosphere was nice. It's definitely more fine dining and I wouldn't go here on a regular unless it was a special occasion.

Side notes - paid parking only & the bathroom is in the basement so you'll have to take the stairs (not sure if they have a single washroom on the main floor)

We dined in on 22nd feb.food quality was ok but they can make you fool easily first they gave us lamb by saying its a goat and after that they added $29 tip by its self in the bill saying its a gratuity tax for 5 people dine in.guys please be very careful people with your cheque they can add anything to that.

Terrible experience. Food was not bad and the ambience was nice, but the most important thing, their service was pathetic. Especially the guy named Sushant (I hope he gave me the correct name), seriously needs an attitude check, All through out he gave the impression that he dosent give a dam about the customer. There was a big strand of hair in the glass of water he served, he dint have have the courtesy to apologize for it, instead gave us a dirty look for bringing it to his attention. They had no interest to serve the customer at all. I really feel if you call it a fine dine restaurant, you need to have staff who are trained to respect the customers. I have always given positive reviews about places I visit, but this was my worst experience in Toronto and I hope this helps a few people in not wasting their money and valuable time. I honestly spend two days thinking about how horrible and disturbing my experience was. I also wish that the management brings in servers who have basic manners. For the ambience of this caliber and with all the competition in the service industry you guys need better staffing.

Walking distance from bay subway station, this restaurant carries a nice and cozy ambiance to enjoy the food. We visited on a Saturday night and the waiting time was 5-6 minutes.loved the the lighting, interiors, polite host and the yummy food. We tried the tandoor chicken (great taste, if you pair it with beer) naan and butter chicken (on a sweeter side, which i really enjoyed) and veg biryani, as i wanted to try vegetarian biryani (i may not order this next time, as the taste and texture was not that satisfying)

We picked this restaurant as a lunch place while taking a break from the Royal Ontario Museum a couple blocks away. What a great choice! We went around 2 pm, so were one of only two tables - nice oasis from the busy museum. The service was very attentive, and we ordered the palak paneer and the awadhi malai kofta. The naan was exceptional (and I'd been planning to skip it!), but the kofta was truly a treat. We were full but finished every last drop in the bowl. Wonderful lunch!

The ambience was really good and the full 5 stars for the food. I took my wife on our marriage anniversary and she absolutely loved it. Really authentic Indian taste.

I liked what I got but, and maybe this is my fault, it wasn't what I had tried to order. It was what I wanted even if I didn't know it. But still I gotta ding for that. Also conveniently the more expensive option lol.

Tasty tandoori. With BIG chunks. The nan was not the best I've had but far from the worst. I was full but still hungry for more when I finished lol. I'm hesitant to try new South Asian places because what if they are mediocre. This will be another place I can order from.

One of the most 'unique' restaurants in town: the decor of the dining room and the attire of the staff are from another era; the food, exception; the staff, excellent. Everything on the menu is delicious, but my favorite is the murgh mirch tikka! It is to die for!
