I like coming to this place at night when it turns into more of a nightclub, but today i went for dinner with my brother.it was a very busy evening with the patio being absolutely packed—I think we got the last table outside.the service was VERY slow.we sat ourselves as there was no hostess on duty, then we waited about 20 minutes before a waitress came by. Her attitude was very unfortunate. My brother mispronounced the name of one of their drinks and she laughed at his mistake in a way that seemed mean spirited. She obviously knew what he meant but she felt inclined to make him feel small for a minor mispronunciation. Anyway, she took our drink order and brought the drinks maybe 5 minutes later, then we didn't see her for another 20 minutes after that. Our food came out fast, and what was served was disappointing. I ordered the smoked chicken club sandwich with fries. Overall, it lacked flavour and substance, with the three bread slices really taking over due to the lack of chicken or any other toppings for that matter. The fries were soggy. It wasn't really what you would expect for an $18.95 plate. I personally wouldn't come back here for a lunch or dinner service based on this experience. That being said, I do respect this place as an institution on Elgin street where I have lived for the past 2 years. I like the afterdark vibe here and I used to live in the apartments above so it will always be a sentimental place for me. I just wouldn't eat here again.
Food is too expensive, food Menu is not descriptive enough. For the Dj nights, it’s free of charge to go in, which is good if you are on a budget, but weird to be honest music it’s a bit demonic. Way too hot in there, and crammed. Also bouncers do sketchy stuff and are rude to you for no reason.
The place is quite nice. The food was ok. The service was bad! Ordered water never came. We ordered ‘Heirloom Tomato Salads’ from the extra menu; wasn’t available anymore. Ok, than soups and salad, the salad came first, before the soup. One soup (they forgot the other one). Steak with fries, fries were cold, send them back……. Pfff. Dissatisfaction.
Easily one of my favorite bars, its always pretty packed. Unfortunetly it looks like with most clubs closed, the age group has dropped significantly. It used to be that transition place for people out of the market club scene, who still liked to dance and have fun.
Great food and fun. The staff is great. A very old pub with charm. We walked around, very big. We saw several bars in different areas. Go and see a great blast from the past. Highly recommend this place!
Our go-to spot for a sold brunch at a reasonable price. Really appreciate the selection of sides and ability to add items for cheap. The outdoor patio +TV setup is great for watching sports and the interior has a very unique, old-school vibe.
I have been going to the Pump since the mid-90s. It has changed hands and changed ser-up since then, but it's remained a fixture in my downtown choices. Always lovely to be there.
Recommended. Great Breakfast, good presentation, good client service, good value, tasty options. Lots of comfortable seating and dining space. Great bar service for several sections. Lots of beverage varieties. Great summer patio space. Ideal for weekend brunch with friends.
Went for brunch - has a rotating bennys special that's tasty and well portioned (bonus that it comes with a good selection of fresh fruit!) Also serves a v large selection of alcohol / cocktails
Great service! Super fast to be seated but the Fries were literally the worst I have ever had in 28 years of life: (but the server took them back and took the 4 bucks off my tab even though I just expected to pay for it. It made up for it. Would go back indefinitely
Terrific service and excellent selection of local beer. Beautiful patio. I had the “pumped-up nachos” and they were pretty good (could have been cooked a bit longer), but very impressed overall.
Went there about 2/3 weeks ago! I loved the lemonade don’t even remember what I ate! Nachos was okay too.
However, I felt super sad when I saw the servers, especially the hostess! It gets so so hot: (Pls make sure you allow them to go inside time to time, and make them drink lots of water.
Had to call 10+ times for someone to pick up to place our take out order. Was told it would be ready in 15mins but had to wait 40mins+. Brought our food to the picnic only to find that we were missing utensils that we specifically asked for and 1/2 of the meals were missing home fries. All round very unpleasant experience.
What? A British pub that will not be showing the Euro Cup ENG vs CRO match tomorrow!? !? At least that's what I was told by the lady who answered the phone. She also thought that Euro Cup was a tennis match. LMFAO: - (
I dont get it. I've watched football matches at the Pump before. Way to drop the ball. Pun intended.
All be it the food at the Pump is delicious. I will give that to them)
Great beer list, one of my favourite pub brunch menus in town, and a great atmosphere. It's one of my go-tos in the city, and it should be one of yours too.
The Pump is a great place with excellent food, great staff and one of the best patios. Only reason I put 4 stars is because of the Hollandaise sauce. Eggs benedict is my favorite food, I have had everywhere and unfortunately the Hollandaise sauce at the pump is very different from any I have had before. Consistency is perfect but it's sweet. I spent my first few bites wondering if they accidentally put the wrong sauce like something that would go on crepes. Also the english muffins were not toasted. Always q good idea to slightly toast those guys. Maybe go back to the drawing board on that one but otherwise excellent.
I love the Lt Pump! Great food, great beer list, great service. Nicely heated patio. They have merch for sale too! Come out and support a great local business. Eat, drink and tip well!
One of the best pins in Ottawa. Unique layout with many nooks and crannies. Food is terrific and solid beer selection. Sad that it doesn't offer the prime rib dinner anymore, but their comfort food selection is pretty good.
Nous avons passé une belle soirée dans ce pub. Le personnel était très sympathique net attentif. J'ai pu y manger malgré mes allergies (protéines bovines, gluten)!
Awful. Rude manager. Horrible, overpriced food. Came in for lunch and our shoes stuck to the floor because it was so filthy. Clearly sexist because all staff are female. Do not recommend. This place is living in the 50’s. Can’t understand how it’s still open.
Well, it was patio seating only but there were heaters there. The service was wonderful and everyone did their part to keep everything sanitary. The food was perfect and the mimosas were excellent.
Enjoyed the casual atmosphere and the vegetarian menu choices. I've also had the roast beef dinner that came with a thick serving of beef. In each case we were heading to a show at the National Arts Centre and asked the server to accomodate us. She was friendly and quick and recognized that we were repeat customers the second time we visited. Thank you!
This is one of my favourite pubs in Ottawa. The many nooks and crannies and the low ceiling create a unique, intimate atmosphere. The beer selection is fantastic and is updated regularly. The food is good, nothing to write home about, but much better than your usual pub grub. I've been to this place many times, but only ever in the evenings. Can't comment on the breakfast or brunch experience.
Pleasantly surprised! They provided my toddler with a toy-toolbox full of fun objects. The breakfast Benny was tasty and accompanied by a nicely balanced assortment of fruit and potato wedges. The waitress was attentive and my water glass and coffee cup never ran dry.
Food was very good. Their fish & chips had a generous fish portion. We also had their table 23 burger and that was quite tasty with a beef pattie that had both volume and flavor. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is that the service was a bit slow but that could have been due to the fact that we were there on a Sunday and they may have been understaffed
The breakfast is to die for! Unfortunately it only gets 4 stars because the lunch and dinner menu is honestly pretty ho-hum. Definitely worth checking out for a nice weekend brunch (if you can get a seat, that is!).
One of my favorite bars in Ottawa. Crowd is quite friendly and staff is friendly too. Food make take a little long if it's not regular appetizers for a group. Cocktails are done very well, not too strong. Great atmosphere overall.
This place was very busy at 1030 am on a Saturday! The servers were friendly and attentive. The food.omg the food. I ordered the Dubliner Benny (poached egg on bacon, green apple slices and a tea biscuit). This was the best eggs Benedict I've ever had. And the portion was great! The little dark chocolate square was like a little dessert after a savoury meal. I left feeling very very full. Well done!
I had a great experience; I went for brunch with a friend. It was busy, we didn't wait too long and the staff was very friendly. The food was good for a brunch, and they gave us a little Swiss chocolate with our meals, it was very much appreciated.
A great friendly place to hang out and grab a drink. The location is great and the setup is different than most pubs, with multiple "rooms". Staff is friendly.
Just your basic hole in the wall. Nothing special on the menu or in its atmosphere. Better places to go a stones throw away, but a sufficient watering hole none the less.
My Friends Laura Lee and RJ and Myself had the Thanksgiving Dinner last night. I cook professionally and I must say I was so impressed with My meal from beginning to end. Our Server was Wonderful! That salad was beautiful and the emulsion of the house dressing was Perfect! The veg on skewers was Absolutely Perfect! The dressing was delicious and it was seasoned to perfection. The Turkey and gravy were succulent and flavorful. The mash was Perfect! I Loved the cranberry sauce! I ended My meal with the Irish Apple Coffe Cake and I Loved every bite and even shared with My Friends. We were all pleased with Our Meals! The FOH are Wonderful. The beer on tap was ice cold and crisp! The after dinner coffee was just how I like it. I'm looking forward to dining at Your Establishment Again! Kudos to the BOH! A Perfect Meal and a Perfect Evening. Sincerely, Heather
