The Maids Cottage

Food is great but their hours are so random. They are not open today and it's a regular business day. Their sign says they're suppose to be open and so does Google. This is the second time we have gone out of our way to visit and this has happened. It's a big inconvenience. Suggestion to all future guests to call before you go.

The women (sisters?) who run this place are angels. I dropped in once to grab breakfast (a delicious homemade quiche and the most fabulous french toast), not knowing this was the home of Ontario's best buttertarts. I grabbed a few on my way out since my family loves them, and now I've had to return several times for more. Always fantastic customer service, always a great selection of tarts. If you're in the area you'd be missing out if you didn't pop in.

The butter tarts from the Maids Cottage are definitely delicious. A little pricey but good for a treat.

Love Maids Cottage, this is a local go-to for butter tarts & pie shells. They have a lot of other delicious goodies. The staff are always friendly. I do miss the dinning room for breakfast but if it makes more sense to keep it as a take out/bakery only establishment I'm good with that.

Best butter tarts ever! Love that I can order online and pick up. Tons of homemade meals and delicious baked goods. Quick and friendly service! They rent out the dining space in the back for events too which is really nice.

I had heard this was the place for butter tarts and this was my first visit. They were pretty good.

Best butter tarts I’ve ever had. Pecan has become my favourite flavour after having it here. No wonder it won the award for best butter tart. It is worth the drive!

So sad that after covid they are not having the dining service. I loved having my breakfast there! I like my eggs and the eggs tested are so fresh and real. Love the nice tea cup display and the friendly waterest.

They are the winner of the buttertart festival for good reason! I don't live close anymore but get a dozen for the freezer when I can.

Some butter tarts were more fresh and flaky than others, strawberry lemon and the flavor of the month were the faves.

Warm welcomes and kind smiles to greet you. The tarts are sweet, which helps make them not get all gobbled up at once. I bought half a dozen and could only eat 2 at first. The price is more than most other places, but the quality is well worth double the price. The variety of different flavors is amazing; something for everyone. I will return before heading home.

Absolutely love their buttertarts. So many varieties and each tastes amazing. I don't get here as often as I'd like because of the hours, but when I do it's such a treat. Thank you again

Finally, I had the chance to try the famous butter tarts from The Maid's Cottage. It is simply delicious. It is worth it to cross the city. The tarts are really special, taste so good, so fresh. Definitely, it is the best butter tart ever.
All the different flavors make it even better. The lady who works there is such a nice person. The only problem is that the store is too busy, but I understand. Everyone wants the same nice things as me. Nice places usually are very busy.

This place is adorable and their butter tarts will make your brain explode - in a good way! I didn't even know I liked butter tarts until I tried these. These tarts are probably what Savage Garden was thinking about when they wrote "I knew I loved you before I met you. " I've never tried extasy, but I imagine it's a similar experience as eating one of these butter tarts. Also, the staff are super excited about the butter tarts as well. When you tell them you haven't tried one yet, you can see the twinkle in their eye because they know what's about to happen to you. I always get some to serve out of town visitors - to sometimes lie and say I made them - but they are so unbelievably divine that nobody believes me.

Their butter tarts and frozen savoury meat pies (steak, steak and liver) and other frozen options (lasagna, Sheppard's pie) are the best. The ladies that serve us are always helpful and professional.

Charming little restaurant with well prepared food. The broccoli & cheese quiche with salad was yummy and Kim's sausage roll was the real deal.

5 star+ service by Debbie. I called in an order for tarts and when she realized that I had a sleeping baby in the truck she took payment over the phone and dropped them to my truck at the back door. I have been going having lunch at the Maids Cottage for about fifteen years and this establishment is a staple in our community. Try the egg salad, try a homemade soup, but most importantly try a tart!

This place has the best butter tarts! There’s usually a bit of a line but the line goes fast and it’s worth it! They have so many different flavours too, which I believe they have online on their website or at least you can get an idea of them from their Instagram page. Highly recommend!

They also have some free short term parking on the street in front of the store and also a parking lot not too far away at the back.

We were told about this place by friends who insisted this was a must try bakery for butter tarts. When we arrived we received a warm greeting. On the menu of Butter Tarts were true butter tarts, tarts with raisins, tarts with a slight heat (spicy), tarts with pumpkin spice and tarts with coconuts. All these varieties of butter tarts led us to choose 2 of each. The price per tart was a little high but we wanted to try more than 1 item. My opinion was the spicy was too runny and not spicy at all, the pumpkin was nice, as was the coconut but not a big fan of either. The Real Butter Tarts (plain) had a consistency that had a stable filling which did not run and was delicious. I will say the shell was a bit thick and filling to shell ratio was a little light on the filling. At over $3 per tart I would expect just a little more filling. Overall the experience was worth the trip. I recommend sticking to the real butter tart selection, but for the adventurous try them all.

Breakfast here is just wonderful! If you order tea, they bring you a little teapot with a bone china teacup.

At the end of breakfast, we always order a few butter tarts or some pie. So amazing! Always so delicious.

Best tart ever! One day I was driving and listening to radio, a lady on the line was talking about her business’s situation in Newmarket, Ontario during the pandemic and was saying we did really good during the lockdown because of our tarts so I searched the location and gave it a nice try!
I tried plain, maple pecan, raisin and all was out of this world. I forever to take picture but next time I go there I definitely take some and will share.

Today again I went there and bought some tarts and delicious and fresh as always.

I was looking for a breakfast place on Main Street Newmarket Wednesday morning. The Maids Cottage was open and had a spacious seating area at the rear with tables for breakfast from a full menu. They have $8 egg bacon hashbrowns and toast offered before 10am that is ideal. Their service is great. And don't forget their signature butter tarts for your afternoon teatime!

The Maid's cottage has one of the best butter tarts that you can eat there be fastfat menu there is really delicious and yummy and there is a girl i dinnt really know that much her name is Annie maria and she is really nice girl and customer named ryan who cervical pursue he is nice and respectful and elsie waitrries is so very repsful

We eat breakfast here regularly. The staff is really attentive and the food tastes great. The butter tarts are AMAZING.

I really enjoyed my time here today. The decorations were really cool. The butter tarts were to die for and the western sandwich yum! I hope to return again some day!

The selection of made in house baked goods is unmatched. Book a table for breakfast or lunch and you wont be disappointed. The friendly staff make it a treat.

We just got several butter tarts from the butter tart festival, they were delicious but my boyfriend JUST PULLED OUT A HAIR from the centre of the tart. They should probably handle their food better.

Went in for tea and a buttertart. It was full so had to wait only a few min. They have so many different kinds of buttertarts, so we ordered the original one. A pleasant restaurant and good atmosphere.

Still the best butter tarts you can buy! Staff are great and it has a very friendly atmosphere. A classic Newmarket spot to eat.

I love this place! Great food, great atmosphere, and friendly staff! This restaurant has a small-town feel, home cooked food, and a quaint feeling. I have become a regular customer, which I think, makes me one of many regular customers. The staff greet many people by name, and they are also known by many of us by their first names. I have yet to have a meal that I didn't enjoy. Everything I have ordered has been tasty, fresh, and at the right temperature. Bottomless cups of coffee are also very much appreciated. They are known for their really good butter tarts, with many flavours to choose from, but you can't go wrong with any of the desserts. Stop in and try it out for yourself if you're in the area. You won't be disappointed.

It’s simply comfort and hospitality at it’s finest.
My dear Mother and Father first introduced me to ‘The Maids Cottage’, and then I joyfully introduced my daughter to this sweet little Restaurant where, for all three generations of us, we:
Delighted in each other’s company,
Enjoyed the homey atmosphere,
And relaxed, getting to know each other again, as we sipped and ate really good and generous fare.
