The MARQ 173 King Street North

I was looking at getting a place here and Gabe was helping me get everything sorted out. Beyond helpful guy as he had the answers to all my questions and made me feel comfortable and confident that I was getting a good place to live. He was definitely one of the nicest guys I have ever met and if you have any questions I would definitely recommend going to him.

The Marq has to be one of the worst property managers in Waterloo, if I could leave 0 stars I would. For starters all of their buildings are absolutely disgusting covered in trash. The internet is awful in all their buildings. It takes over an hour for the water to warm up when you want to take a shower in 173 king street. And on top of all that they decide to turn off the water entirely like once a month randomly for the whole day. I hate it here

If I could leave a zero star I would. Horrific management, they never respond and if they do they are very rude. Manager for 21 Columbia Savannah I think her name is the rudest individual ever. Do not rent from Marq at all costs!

A dormstyle residence with amazing people running the place. Frequent events are organized by the building to keep the community engaged. Thrifting events, lunches and all good stuff.

The 345 king st N building passed my expectations ngl. It’s very clean and the staff are always around to help. Everyone brings a good vibe especially Jasmine she’s consistently been a big help!

Lived there for a bit, it was a horrible experience. Most of these people saying it was great are just people working from there. Trust me that’s not a building you would want to sleep and put your money in unless it was your last option

Can't say enough bad things about how horrible this property management company is. They have left the building at 21 Columbia Street West in deplorable conditions. No lights at night in parking garage or in parking lot. Extremely dangerous at night especially for girls as there are always sketchy people hanging out in this parking lot asking for money or cigarettes. Parking lot is also always covered in garbage and garbage is never collected on time and people are never reprimanded for leaving garbage in the parking lot.

The staff at 168 King Street N were very helpful and informative when helping me choose a room.

I have been living here for 4 years and the staff always do cool activities such as pancake day or pumpkin carving contests! Management is really nice and reliable.

AWFUL COMPANY, I'd rather give zero stars! Short story: Potentially exposed my partner and I to COVID, no water in our building several times over a few months, provided temporary apartment that was not cleaned during COVID, asked us to completely move to a new apartment with 9 days notice, managers completely ghosting us after multiple attempts to contact them. Staff get to us very quickly when they want something from us.

Long Story: During the 2021 COVID19 pandemic the water in our building was turned off multiple times, often with no communication that this was going to happen. When we rang up to find out how long it would be for, it was rarely fixed within the mentioned timelines. There was very poor communication about this issue. The company patched the issue but didnt fix it properly and it happened repeatedly.

One day, the water went off and stayed off for 2 days. We had to ring up to ask what was happening. We were provided with a temporary apartment in another building which we (gratefully) accepted so we could shower. When we arrived, there was still food in the fridge and some areas of the apartment were not 100% clean. We just used the clean shower/room and left.

The next day we went back to shower and while I was in the washroom and my partner was half dressed, a tour guide from the Marq knocked and told us she had to give a tour in our apartment. She refused to use a different apartment and we ended up with 6-7 people entering our apartment and looking around. This was both embarrassing for us and a potential safety issue since I did not have my mask on when they entered. All attempts to contact management about this have been ignored.

A couple of weeks after this incident, we received another phone call from the Marq, telling us that they wanted us to completely move out of our apartment from the lower floors to the upper floors. How long did we have to do this? 9 days! We were already planning to move out a few weeks later and they knew this. So they wanted us to move twice within the space of a couple of weeks. Fortunately we were able to work out a deal with Wilfred Laurier University so this didn't have to happen, but the Marq were not helpful.

After following up again through a couple of other Marq staff, we have still not heard anything from the management team about our safety concerns and other complaints. Though their staff have been quick to respond to us about any move out questions, so they are clearly getting our messages.

I am disgusted by this company's lack of care for their residents.

Extremely fast and helpful management! Always made sure to help with the transition into the building, and was extremely flexible during the COVID-19 pandemic!

This is my first year in the MARQ and I am very impressed so far. The living room and kitchen area is very spacious, and the bedrooms are a nice layout shape. My room came with a not-so-great bed, and the staff here were able to provide me with a new bed fast; no questions asked.

Great service at this apartment! When I arrived it was very clean and exactly in the condition that I was expecting. Only reason for 4 stars is that it is a bit expensive for the small space, and you also have to pay for laundry.other than that it has been great so far!

So far its decent.but they refused to clean the bathrooms thorougly, and refused to clean the fridges, the freezer, our balcony, and the kitchen table. But my room looks really nice, the water is good, and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

I just moved into The Marq about 2 weeks ago and it's been awesome ever since! The staff is very nice and always helpful when needed. The apartments are very clean and spacious. Would recommend to anyone looking for a place to live!

Great place. Bedrooms are big, kitchen/living room is extremely spacious and the wall of windows make for lots of natural light. Definitely would recommend checking out.

The MARQ staff members have been more than helpful with my switch from my old student housing to this one. Even during the COVID-19 situation, they are taking many precautions to ensure the safety of the tenants while still being readily available to answer any questions or assist us in any way. Rooms are well done, perfect for students!

Very friendly and accommodating staff. The place is well maintained and in the perfect off campus location for both UW and WLU students. Bedrooms and common areas are spacious.

I lived at this MARQ owned building for three consecutive years and it was a great experience. Every time we needed something the MARQ staff was very helpful. Very accommodating and kind. I would do it all over again!

Although the building it self is nice (large rooms and tall ceilings) some of the staff are kind of rude when you ask them questions and the Marq violates students rights when it comes to St. Partrick's day. Speaking from my experience last year on St. Patricks day, the marq takes advantage of the fact that it is mostly students living in the building (any apartment in Toronto with non-students could NEVER get away with or try any of the non-guests rules).

This is my first year living in the Marq - 167 King Street North in Waterloo. The staff are usually friendly at the front desk and can usually help when needed although some are friendlier than others and clearly go above and beyond for the residents. Sometimes maintenance takes a long time (took over 3 months to fix a small hole in the wall) but overall good management!

The management is very friendly and accommodating! The building is always clean and location is great, really near to the school. I have enjoyed living here the past year and would recommend to my peers.

Moved in to 167 marq for my last year and so far am I really enjoying it, super clean building, really close to campus, super nice staff, finally the special events like pizza day they provide to all tenants.

We live in 167 King Street North building and our experience so far has been great! The staff are all very welcoming and helpful, and the building is in a great location.

Managers are very helpful with any questions you have and want to make sure there tenants are happy. The space is amazing!

This review is because the marq decided to implement a guest policy 3 days before st.patricks day weekend limiting the number of guests each person can have. Not only is this illegal because it is not a clause stated in our lease agreement, but it is just a rude move to give less then 3 days warning till the weekend to residents. Thought st pattys was strict when living in residence, well, welcome to the marq!

Awful service. We have had men wak into our apartment because the Marq does not do anything about people leaving the outside doors constantly unlocked. We have also had black mold in our apartment for a few weeks and they have not done anything about it, even after several complaints!

The staff here are committed to their tenants. The leasing office has been overwhelmingly helpful with everything within their spectrum and go above and beyond to ensure the issue is resolved. Everything from subletting, monthly payments, and maintenance requests to promoting a welcoming, warm, friendly environment. Considering these staff deal with a building full on students on the busiest street in all of Waterloo, everything is maintained and kept clean. They truly care about their residents - the staff sent our unit a holiday card with a supportive note to help us get through exam season!

The unit themselves are also great - every room is generously spacious with a good amount of light!

The staff at 167 King st N has been really great in helping deal with issues that my boyfriend and his roommates have been having with one of the other roommates.they have been very fantastic in regards to keeping everyone updated, and even keeping myself (who is not actually a resident) updated. Bronwyn, especially, has been INCREDIBLE in assisting with everything we need.
