The Nilgiris Restaurant

The attitude of waiter was so disgusting. They served very thick sambhar. We ordered buttermilk and they gave us Badam milk. When i talked to them they gave rude reply and gave us another butter milk after we finish our dinner. They also charged for butter milk. It was such a bad experience. Never try this restaurant. Food was also neither qualitative nor tasty.

A rare case where the attentiveness of the staff far exceeds and makes for a pleasurable experience. Decent food at reasonable prices in 2024. Far superior than their closest competitor who shall be unamed.

Never order food from Uber eats, ordered sambar rice and tamarind rice the portions are very small not even enough to feed a kid, just for rice charging $8.99 plus tax, don’t you guys think it’s unfair to the customers, charging $9 for one handful rice, never ever ever order from here again.

Ridiculous customer service. Came there waited to be seated for 25 mins to start then was waiting over 20+ min until I seen a short girl (server) literally attend to a table that just arrived. I called out to the server, she never took the onus to take our order and I just left. Went to Saravana Bhavan, although them too are very busy got seated within 5 minutes and our orders taken right away.

Food is great; however, it's cramped most of the time during weekends. Great place for takeout. Buffets are not replenished till close times.

Wonderful.very nice staff, busy but really love the food there. Last it was really nice. I did not know the name of the guy wearing cap, who had been so nice with us. It was memorable experience. Thanks.

Worst customer service!
We were 2 and waited for the table for almost 30mins. When we noticed that there’s a table ready but was getting by assigned to someone else, we immediately flagged it to the staff. The staff didn’t reassign that table and instead offered to wait for other table getting ready. I was extremely disappointed and after hearing no apology I insisted then to at least apologize for their act. I had commitment elsewhere so had to leave without eating food. Never coming back again.

We (our fame) have been having food here for so many years now. They try to match the authentic South Indian taste. We frequent to the Brampton branch. Employees are mostly from north (specifically to serve the customers), they need more training in understanding the food (details of how it is prepared etc.). Special mention to Mr. Anand who takes care of the customers very well and to Mr. Bala who takes all efforts to maintain the authenticity of the south flavors in GTA, Canada.

Not worth it, they seem racist towards the North Indians. Whenever I go, it's a total disappointment, but now I ain't going there anymore.

Amazing south Indian vegetarian food. I had the masala dosa and it was really good. Washrooms need some work but overall fine I guess.

Two day ago I ordered for dinner yesterday for a takeout for 4: 30 pm. Did not get on time. Got it only by 5: 30 pm. I had ordered for ven Pongal, curd rice, Vadai, sambar and chutney. The ven Pongal and curd rice was not done properly. The quantity I ordered was 3/4 tray each and they had given a full tray. I had to throw away 1/4 of the tray. Just wasting food is not nice. If the Pongal and curdrice was done properly the guest who came would have had more than what they ate.

Much better quality vegetarian food compare to many south Indian restaurants (Saravana Bhavan/Anjapar/Karaikudi) in Scarborough. Also food tastes close to back home.

We go regularly to eat South Indian food at The Nilgiris. Their dosas, oothapam, idlies, Wada, sambhar etc are just excellent! Their service is also fast and wonderful. The place is a little bit untidy if you are looking for a polished restaurant. They are best in authentic taste and food.

Way too busy but that speaks to how good the food is. Customer service can sometimes be slow and unreliable.

Hair found in my rava dosa. There were no chutneys given for take away order. Worst experience.the whole experience became bad.

Horrible service! Horrible food! They had nothing that we wanted to eat. Pretty much picked whatever they had. I would never come back to this place again. I strongly suggest that you stay away from this place. I gave 1 star just to be able to submit my review. It was a very unpleasant experience.

Food is delicious and therefore come here all the time.but it's always busy! And feel like staff is overwhelmed but they're always soldiering on, kudos to them

If you miss the south indian cuisine relax. Eat at the Nilgiri's restaurant in Scarborough and the taste will flood in and overwhelm you. Tried the dosas and the idli and menu vada and i have not tasted better even in India. Original taste, the sambar was to die for, the chutneys superb and the dosa itself crisp and tasty. Discovery for me. Great service though the lady in charge though seeming harassed always had a smile on her face and the waiters were quick efficient and busy. Very crowded but it was a Sunday. Please eat here for authentic south indian meals. I'm certainly going in for more.

I love this place for authentic South Indian food. I think this one is the best in Scarborough. I visited them yesterday again and they never fail to impress your tooth buds. Staff is friendly too, they serve the guests with utmost care and love. Bhumika took of our orders and request yesterday and she is gem of a person, from making you comfortable to handling all your request, I was impressed with her. Thanks Bhumika for taking care of our request and making us feel welcome and comfortable.

This restaurant has bad reviews and I believe them which prevents me going there, lazy and unfriendly people. Please improve yourselves.

Just one request don't put paper on take out order it sometimes stick with dhoas specially rava dhosa.otherwise everything is perfect.

One of the best South Indian restaurants in scarborough. It tastes the same like homely made food. Idli is great.

Absolute terrible customer experience and I'm a regular customer. Would not recommend for any new or returning customers. I made an order for pick-up and was advised to be there in 15 minutes. Upon my arrival, I paid and was told to wait with my order #. I patiently waited for an additional 20 minutes (35 minutes in total) after watching customers who arrived after me pick up their order and leave. I asked the workers politely when my order will be ready and they said I'm next. I waited another 20 minutes after watching more customers come in and make brand new orders on the spot and leave before me. At that point I was frustrated and asked how much longer my order would take as I had been patiently waiting for almost more than an hour (considering the 15 minute buffer time they provided for my take-out order to be ready). The employee spoke to the manager and said "Oh but you ordered so-and-so" and make excuses. I asked firmly once again how long it would take and they responded 15-20 minutes. My order was not a big one yet others who came after me got their bigger orders beforehand. I was not given a refund and I was in fact, called 3 hours after saying my order is ready and given attitude on the phone when I tried to explain my experience. The employee on the phone simply said that they were just calling to see if I got my order or not in a rude manner despite me emphasizing the poor customer service I had been treated 3 hours prior to their follow up call.

Worst customer service- Dear management kindly be kind to your customers. The way you guys treated us was horrible and if the customer have some queries try to answer not argue with them- they are your revenue generators.

Totally disappointed, because needs to wait at least 1 Hour. They take all the orders and want us to pay first.

Dear Management,
Do not think people don’t know how to make foods,
They coming to you shop because the don’t have time to cook or they don’t want to spend time to cook.
If you want us to wait 1hr and pay early, means you are playing with HUMAN STOMACH.

Please change your time managing system otherwise this restaurant will NOT LAST LONGER.
I am seriously never ever come to your shop again. Take care of your customers because CUSTOMERS IS A KING, and you start loosening customers.

By far the best in town for south Indian food.

That said The, The customer service has gone really bad. I was billed incorrectly for the 4th time in the last few months. They are very reluctant to cancel the incorrect bill and generate the correct bill. Instead they are asking the customer to buy additional things to bridge the gap. Why do I need to buy something that I don't need.
To cover up the mistake I was told there was a price hike. Very disappointing.

What they need is a good floor manager who can cater to an audience who like south Indian food and making customer service as their top priority.

Food is great. Tastes like authentic South Indian. Servers are kind and quick too. Must try if you're around. Please keep in mind about 30-45 wait time on the weekend but once you're on the table they will serve quickly.

Very disappointed with the service. Some of them have no clue what they are doing. I asked to take out couple of vadas and the guy said there are no more vadas, they need to make them again and I have to wait there 1 hr to get it. While waiting for other order I noticed couple of times them serving vada to other people. I had to ask repeatedly to get those 2 vadas. Customer service and interaction skills are a BIG 0. Not going back here again.

The customer service is worst, they don’t care to answer your queries. The staff doesn’t know their menu and are rude. Better train your interns dear management. Stop concentrating only on $$$

Ordered a few items. Vada’s were missing. Ordered Poori with kurma, Got Poori with Aloo mix/saagu. Had to wait for almost 45 mins for my order. Could have been better

Rude management, ok food, mismanaged take aways. My experience was not much great. Will switch to ANNNALAKSHMI as it comes in next complex. Just waiting. Good luck rude and impatient front desk

Food is good but you guys have one of the worst servers who make reservations they keep people waiting and if they see any people whom they know they right away allocate the seat and they even don’t know what they are even doing I ordered idly it has been sitting there for a while they just heated it for few seconds and handed away and they are not nice

Its a must visit place to all the South Indians who loves vegetarian dishes. …. Yummy yummy dishes. …a huge fan of "Masala Dosa"

Food is good but packaging was worst I have seen anywhere. Idli and dosa from taste perspective is still.good.

If you are taking out food from here, make sure to check all the packaging of food / spoon before you leave the place.

Enjoy authentic south Indian food here. The place has buffet as well as a la carte menu available for customers. Though the sambar bowls are the smallest you'll ever see, the rassam and sambar both test delicious. Coffee is great too.

Excellent service and food.returned back to this place after 11 years as we had a very bad experience. Things have changed tremendously and quality of food and service was exceptional. Authentic Dosa with real sambhar and 3 different kinds of chutney. Worth the money we paid. We asked for extra potatoes and chutney for which no extra charges were taken unlike 10 years back. Would definitely go now more often and recommend friends and family.

Very nice place and great food. The restaurant was crowded although it has a very spacious dining area. The service was quick and the food was great. The location of the restaurant is little bit far from the downtown Toronto.

One of the best places to have South Indian food in Toronto. They have somehow managed to keep perfect blend of spices in their delicacies. Go there for unlimited buffet or for a-la-carte orders, the taste will be the same.

This is a very good South Indian food place that has very good prices, amazing service, and most important delicious food.

Authentic South Indian food. Variety of dosas and uttapams. You can buy 25 soft idlis for only $8 and 50 for $16. I think that's an awesome deal.

Great Indian vegetarian food. Lunch special needs improvement but the paneer 65 is unbelievable along with the cheese dosa.

We go to Nilgiris at least once a month and always order ala carte. This time we decided to get buffet for a change. I guess we totally made the wrong choice. The buffet was totally mismanaged. The servers could not differentiate between people having buffet or ordering ala carte. We were sitting in a corner and kept waiting for pooris and dosas to arrive. The chutney containers were in very short supply and constantly being washed in the backend. Pappadam was all crushed and not re-stocked on time. We spoke to a couple of servers and the Manager and everyone apologized. That's it! No mention about making sure this did not happen. At the end, they say "come again". We came home hungry after paying for the buffet. If there is a crowd at Nilgiris, I suggest not to go for a buffet.

Very good place, food is also great. The staff is friendly as well. They have a very good price buffet. They need to be reminded to refill the container as the food runs out. Overall a nice clean place to eat and have some Dosa's!

They don't have much space for your strollers donut can get a bit tricky to get a decent spot if the place is busy.

Tried a lot of dosa spots in Scarborough but nothing compares to Nilgiris. I’ve been to Sarvanaa Bhavan and Nanthas, they are good but nothing like Nilgiri. Had the lunch buffet and regular menu and both are great.

This place has seriously gone downhill! Visited 2 years ago and had the most pleasant experience. Visited last week with my parents who were visiting me here from India and I swear I will never EVER go back. It's dirty, un-organized, the buffet plates and bowls were disgusting and wet. The food was cold as a dead body and when I asked the head kinda guy, will never forget his face, to heat up one of the desserts, his answer was: we don't do it. For buffet we leave it like that! Then I requested can you at least warm it up? It's frozen! He completely ignored me and walked away, I mean walked away as if we had never had that conversation! My parents were shocked to see the lack of customer service in Canada!

UTTER disgust! I know Indian buffets and occasionally visit some restuarants in Brampton and no, the dessert is NOT SERVED COLD: GULABJAMUN! Some dishes are but not GULABJAMUN! $14.99 per person and wet dishes? Rude staff? And zero customer attendance, when I say zero I mean no one will come even once to ask!

Typical third world road side joint, even some of them do better as I have visited many countries! Ministry of health should have a look here! #moh

I visit nilgris hello how are u oftenly because i find the food really good here. But today as me and my girlfriend were so hungry we just called the restaurant and told to prepare the food and we were just like 5 min away from restaurant. The girl who attended us was aksha. She has no manners how to talk to customers and how to aleast great them.
Moving on to the order, i said on the phone like 10 times its a dine in i am coming its a pre order, rather than keeping my table ready she asked me what was your order?
This is so worst, she herself said on the phone the food (rava dosa) will talke atleast 15 minutes and now she says it was ready!
What the hell are guys serving the old food or what?

She was so rude with me and my girlfriend. We were not even served with water
We were served with water after we were done with our appetizer. That too we asked for it.

I don’t know aksha says so that this is the way we do things at nilgirs but seriously i just found her to be that way.

Authentic south indian food. Can either go al carte or buffet. Plus with an unlimited amount of dosage, I would say it's a pretty good deal. If you're a vegetarian then this is the place to go.
The service is great as well, and very attentive. There's always a waiter standing close by ready to help.
Now to the actual food. They have the classics vada, dosa, idli and sambar.
The classic vada was good, but the lentil vada was even better. Idli was a little soggy since it's been in the buffet table for long, so cant complain about it. And they serve the dosa straight to your table, just have to grab the sambar and coconut sauce from the buffet table. Since it was busy, fresh dosa kept coming out from the kitchen (plus for me)

Overall good experience and will come again.
