The place seems to be more good at northern style food, all the Sichuan dishes are not hot (but smells really good!), would recommend boiled fish if you are not looking for a traditional spicy version.the dishes are not large but the price is quite reasonable
It was really delicious. I ordered three dishes and a Kyoto meatloaf, and each one was delicious. Kung Pao chicken and fish-flavored shredded pork were only 5.99! ! It’s been a long time since I’ve eaten at such a delicious and cheap restaurant in GTAThe service attitude is also very good, highly recommended!
The signature boiled fish at the Toronto store is one of the preferred dishes. The portion for two is very generous and slightly spicy to accommodate the taste. There are as many fish fillets as a mountain, large and tender, one after another, delicious!
The popular kidney flower in the wok is full of flavor. The kidney flower has a refreshing taste without being spicy. It seems that not many people don’t like this dish.
The skewers are surprisingly good. The mutton skewers are generous in portion, the mutton is tender with a little grease, and the meat is grilled without being dry and juicy. It is better than a specialized skewers restaurant. The garlic chicken wings are also good, juicy when you bite into them, and the meat is tender and tasty.
Overall, I think this time-honored brand produces good products
Kyoto meatloaf is the best! The boiled fish is neither salty nor very spicy. Children like it very much. The sauce flavor of the fried noodles does not disappoint, but the tomato in the lump soup is a little less. Overall, it is good
The store has a nostalgic style, the taste is really good, and the food is served quickly! When I was eating, I saw takeaways constantly, and it felt like there were a lot of regular customers in the small shop!
What a treat to have such an authentic Northern Chinese food restaurant right here in Toronto. The dishes were made with fresh ingredients and really flavourful! Highly recommend the fish with red pepper, 水煮鱼,锅包肉,宫保虾球, 地三鲜. You must come here, you will not regret!
Heard that this place has been around for decades, we decided to give it a try, and we thought it was OK… We got Sliced Fish in Hot Chili Oil w/ Bean Sprout, and Lamb Skewers. The Sliced Fish came loaded with fish slices for the price, it had a ton of Bean Sprout underneath as well, but flavour wise, it didn’t hit the mark, numbing spice wasn’t numbing, nor was the dish spicy at all… Lamb Skewers came in 4 skewers, the seasoning was perfect, the meat was tender, and juicy! Overall, this place had a “homey” feel to it, so it was heartwarming walking in, but the floor, the plastic tablecloth were both a bit sticky, and food quality was OK…
$16.99 + tax + servicefee+ tip worth of fried squid and not to mention the squid is already over fried to be harder than stone. It’s full of onion and green peppers, not worth it. The other meat dishes smell funny, definitely not fresh.
We used to go to a pace in china town of Houston, TX, USA and since we moved to Toronto, we have been searching for food which will taste as good as there. So far no luck. Today tried this restaurant and the food appears to be made the same way and so I guess it is authentic, but the taste can be improved. Chicken-Deep Fried Chilli can have bit more flavor and chicken can be crispy. It was almost soft. However, this is the closest I have found so far to what we used to eat. This is the reason why I am giving 3 stars. Sliced Fish In Hot Chilli Oil - we are not satisfied with this because there is hardly any trace of chilli oil. It was just fish in boiled flavor water. The taste for this comes with chilli oil but due to the lack of it, can't find any taste. I wish restaurant takes this feedback and improves the taste. Nonetheless, I am coming back for crispy chicken.
The only plus I guess is that their fried rice was plenty, but it was definitely not the fried rice I was expecting. It is far from the best fried rice you can get in the area.
I ordered three dishes and 2 of them taste really good. But I am giving 2 stars because one of the dish (i.e, dry fried green beans) has gone bad. I was told they could not refund me because they used fresh beans, which is hard to believe. At least they should have done a proper quality check before delivering.
I would rate them Zero star if i had a chance. I am not a person likes to rate other restaurant especially during this hard time. I understand that the small businesses and local restaurants are struggling during pandemic, but It's so disgusting that i have to reveal. I found a COCKROACH in their "the house special fried rice". So gross.never order again. I reported this incident to Toronto Public Heath. They will investigate. The old house used to be my go-to restaurant, but it's on my blacklist now.
