Great pub with a huge patio. The Rhino is one of the longest running bars in Parkdale. Their beer selection is quite extensive. So many local and European beers to choose from. The food is well priced and always fresh and delicious. The staff is friendly & the ambiance is very inviting. They have pool tables and tons of space. A great place for a work or Christmas party. Highly recommended.
Possibly the worst service I have ever experienced. I gave it the benefit of the doubt for the second time and some how they managed to charge me $150 extra on the bill and if I didn't notice they would have let it slide. Extremely unprofessional service. Food isn't bad and the crowd is chill. Service is a game changer and they need to change their game.
3* for the food because it was typical bar food nothing exciting but the nachos were pretty good, 3* for the service because it was a little slow and it wasn't even busy, and 4* for the atmosphere because the patio was huge and the crowd was great
Very cozy place on a cold winter's night. The guests are a full mix of Parkdale and west ends finest. Great bar menu and the pricing is fair. The drink selection has something for everyone. The staff are friendly and welcoming. A great local if you live in the hood. A massive patio for those great sunny 'daze'. The brunch menu is my favorite. The Rhino is a Parkdale institution. You must check it out if you've never been. You will love the casual environment.
They have a huge summer patio. Just fully rebuilt.
I was told that the Rhino was a very friendly bar for dogs. I subsequently walked into the bar with my. 6lb dog, and was YELLED at by the manager that I was not allowed to bring a dog into the bar, even though I was looking for patio seating. That’s understandable, but I was told 4 times that I needed to stay at the tables that were at the fence line by the sidewalk, even when I was already outside and at that location, and was really staunchly spoken to. I GET IT GIRL! 5 minutes later, a large dog was sat at a table at the back of the patio, very far away from the sidewalk that I was scolded to stay by very aggressively. I asked to speak to the manager that yelled at me about my dog and she was very defensive and didn’t really give me a reason why me and my dog had to say at the front and why she was originally aggressive and angry and with me, but this large dog could sit wherever they chose. I am honestly shook at how this blonde older woman spoke to me. As a service worker myself, I think this was appalling and kind of gross. I will not be back and will instruct my friends to do the same. I think that as an older woman in the service industry, she should have better customer service, as she has obviously been doing this for decades. I don’t normally make reviews but this woman was not okay and was unhinged. Our server was lovely, but this manager was honestly a hypocrite and not someone I would never want to work for or with. Gross!
Went here last night for my birthday party. Server even asked about who was the birthday girl. Was not given any free drink or dessert. I spilled water and asked for napkins that never arrived. Just handed a check without being asked if I was finished.
If I could give zero stars I would. I went there for a speed dating event. Afterwards me and a few people decided to have a few drinks. The gentleman I spent most of my time with was black. I'm not sure if this had anything to do with the managers behavior but no matter her reasons she was completely unprofessional & handled it poorly. I've been a GM at many restaurants in Florida before I moved here. So I'm aware how your supposed to treat your customers. The only incident in the bar that stood out to me was when we both stood up to show one another a mock marital arts move due to the fact we both had that in common. There was no scene, only us standing to the side, facing one another, slowly doing one move. To give a better explanation he put his hands on my shoulders and I was showing him gently how I'd break the hold. When the older female manager came around she yelled at us to stop that right now. So we did and sat back down to talk some more. The black gentleman I was with only had 1 beer the whole night at that point. I believe I had 3-4 glasses over a several hour period. Neither of us were disrespectful or overly loud & we definitely weren't drunk. When we went to get another round. I was told we'd been cut off. The manager refused to be polite when I tried to understand why she had made that decision. She completely ignored me. It was an extremely embarrassing situation and the friend I met that night thought it might have something to do with him being black and me white. Which I could tell made him feel very uncomfortable. It was the only reason that really made any sense. Needless to say. I will never return to that bar again. I'll also be putting in a complaint with Match about how we were treated. Sadly the situation could have been handled very differently. It's ashamed because I really was enjoying myself up until that point.
For my first experience ever, it was the best place to grab food and a bevvy, and I've been to every high end restaurant in the city. Hands down, the knowledge of the bartenders with pairings to each dish I had last night was astronomical, if I could give a Michelin star, I'd give them all. Big shout out to Matt and Merrick, and unfortunately I didn't get the names of the servers but they were fantastic.
La nourriture est bonne mais part contre serveuse pas agréable du tout. Une fois payé pas de bonne soirée rien vraiment la pour son chiffre. SERVEUSE VRAIMENT PAS BIEN!
Felt like having a Caesar so I stopped by. Very well made although no bells and whistles. For food, I got the impossible burger with fries and gravy. It was so good. Like so good! I'm probably gonna do this weekly.
Great place for big groups but nothing special.i wouldn't come here by my own will.fish & chips is good if you’re already here, but not worth visiting for the food
Patio is big - very big and full of chairs. Good back support. Lots of tables as well, they hold up your drink very nicely. Good spot for patio, would recommend.
Lots of vegan options and not just salad or Beyond Burger. They should add 2 more options and a dessert and then I can come here regularly. And the servers were amazing. No mistakes with my order. Food came quickly and they checked in frequently. I made a reservation and they called me to check in when I was running late rather than give my table away. Really appreciated that. Would totally recommend.
We always enjoy The Rhino during our visits to Parkdale. A nice big patio although not much protection from the sun depending on the time of day and location of your table. Only recent concern was they were holding steadfast to the 90 minute rule despite no apparent line up.
Nice large patio to accommodate variety of guest sizes. Food was yummy, loved the rhino flavoured wings. Tasty the variety of beers, including sour raspberry and tropical. Justin the server was funny and made sure we were okay. We thought it was family owned the way he took pride in his job. It was much appreciated! We'll be back!
We will definitely be coming here again! Great food and fantastic and polite staff. We were in the area looking for somewhere welcoming and this was definitely the place to go.
The vibes in this bar are so good we loved the honey garlic wings and the fries their signiture beer was also excellent just as they say it in their menu
First time trying this place and I have never felt so unwanted as a customer. Stopped by here this evening with my dog for a beer to celebrate the end of a long week. Patio was busy, we waited patiently. The group in front of me had a dog and were sat no problem (middle of the patio and then was even allowed to move tables to a more desirable one). The “host” finally came over to see me, and told me it would be a bit because there were two groups inside waiting. I waited patiently for 20 more minutes. Two more tables got up to leave so we should have been next. She came over again to tell me I couldn’t have either and started making a bunch of new rules and excuses about where she was allowed to seat me with a dog (why did none of these rules apply to the group ahead?). Long and short, I’ve been a server for 20 years and I would never make someone feel that unwanted. My dog is well behaved and I was extremely polite and patient with this woman. Clearly she was hoping we’d just leave.
All to say, I will not be returning. We frequent Local in Liberty Village often and they are INCREDIBLE. If you’re looking for a dog friendly patio DO NOT GO TO THE RHINO - VISIT LOCAL IN LIBERTY INSTEAD.
An absolutely phenomenal experience. The drinks were priced well considering the area and the bar itself was very clean and well organized. Drinks flowed very smoothly and service was attentive. I'd like to single out Justin for making our evening even better than it could have been. He ensured we were well taken care of and offered great suggestions throughout the night. Overall an excellent experience. The washrooms were also shockingly clean.
Perfect place for a good pint with friends. The beer selection is great, with both local and imports and always rotating. Very speedy service considering the crowds, the staff are ON IT!
I’m not one to leave scathing reviews of a place but I’m honestly kind of bummed we spent money here… we waited almost 2 hours for a large poutine, grilled chicken sandwich, and a burger. The chicken was totally dry and the burger was overdone and didn’t have cheese like it was ordered. The fries were also obviously not fresh. The server came over only 2x during our entire stay despite the restaurant being almost empty. I’ve worked in tons of restaurants to know when a bad review is deserved and even if this was truly an off day for the FOH/BOH (front of house/back of house) then it should have been acknowledged that the food & service was off by coming over to check in but that didn’t happen. They get 2 stars because the draft list was extensive but that’s it.
The food is not bad; I had the sweet fries and the pretzels, two huge yummy pieces. I like that it was not crazy busy even in the evening. And they put the tables apart from each other so you do not feel cramped. There alot of alcoholic options, 3-4 menus! And almost nothing for soft drinks, and the coffee was cold n horrible, and no nondairy option.
Very nice staff here; friendly and kind-know how to treat customers. I had the Chicken Filet sandwich with salad- very good! It was nice and quiet mid-afternoon. Very, very clean and relaxed!
Justin our waiter was an amazing delight with excellent service - we put in and wings are outstanding - great atmosphere I've been many televisions it's a real sports bar - A hidden Gem
Had a great time here. Not so busy but amazing service at the bar by Mathew! He did an amazing job taking care of us and recommending us the right drinks! Overall great vibe!
Personally, I love the atmosphere here. I prefer to have a drink and eat in a place I don't find too uncomfortable and where the people around me are friendly. I live more at the Trinity bellwoods end but myself and my husband (and my dog in patio seasons) come here a lot to relax. I don't like pretentious places and if I'm going out I like to enjoy my immediate surroundings. I also love the whiskey sours they do here too. So all in all, I love coming to The Rhino.
Cool outdoor patio and pretty busy. Definitely make sure you adhere to hand sanitizer standards. Nothing crazy but very easy going. Smoking area is behind you if that doesn't bother you too.
I went for lunch at 12noon on Friday. Place was not busy. Staff was polite. Offered patio seating and warned that there was no shade from the sunshine at that time. I appreciate that warning as I usually don't like to bake in the sun. A generous amount of napkins were provided at the table. A jar of water and glass was served at the start. I had their BLT sandwich which comes with fries. Food came out fast and hot and delicious. I think their coffee machine was not working properly that day. Courteous staff.
It’s a bar… nothing surprising. Patio is large, but lacks any creativity in its setting or decoration. Drinks are ok, service is good. Homeless guys yelling at patrons constantly are annoying, but I don’t blame them, they’re not happy… still, very disruptive frequently, especially if you’re seated close to the sidewalk. It is what it is, an average Toronto bar, nothing more, nothing leas
This place is awesome! So many options for drinks, crazy amount of beers and bottles. Love all the vegan and vegetarian options, also ordered the rhino signature burger and it was hands down the best burger we’ve ever tried! Amazing service, highly recommend!
Great patio area, pint of Guinness was good. Fish and chips was reasonably priced and tasty. Great selection of beers and a couple of options for vegetarian / vegan
The Rhino has a chill patio atmosphere, with delicious food. Many dietary options are available, including vegan. It's first come, first serve as in no reservations. The drinks were delicious and the food was savory. Tip for the staff, I know it's stressful opening up again and having limited staff, but hanging up on calls is not okay.
What kind of patio puts all the tables in direct sunlight with no umbrellas during high noon? The tables all have umbrella holes, so I really don't understand the lack of them. The patio is in FULL SUN, not a single table shielded, during lunch. My partner and I sat down for all of 15 minutes and she already got a sunburn. DO NOT GO HERE at all while the sun is up.
Secondly, the food we ordered was absolutely heinous. The nachos barely had anything on them besides cheese. The omlette was watery and the potatoes were soggy. Apparently the burger is good? Then just serve that and don't pretend like you can make anything else. Completely overpriced too.
Maybe this place is better at night? Anyway don't waste your time.
The Rhino is an absolute local legend, and I love it with all my heart. I miss the paneer dish so much.
But as of June 2021, I’ve got to beg you to offer something other than Cooper’s Hawk and Greenlane for white wine. Every single varietal is awful sugar piss
Great spot for pandemic hangouts. They’ve got a spacious patio with functional outdoor heaters that make the experience worthwhile even on colder days. And a diverse menu selection to satisfy any palate.
The washroom stall doors in the bathroom don’t even close or lock properly. How does the health inspector even pass that? Drinks and atmosphere was fine, but fairly deterred from coming here again due to the washroom situation.
I live near The Rhino and for years it has been a home away from home! My friend and I call it ‘the clubhouse’! The poutine (vegetarian) is a reliable favourite but I adore the burrito bowl! Sometimes it gets very busy and you have to go up to the bar and get your drinks, but that’s no big deal and in my world that’s nothing to complain about! I’ve only ever had good times, good drinks and good food! Thanks, Rhino!
Seemed kind of rough when we first walked in, don't expect nice decor, but the staff were excellent with a great sense of humour, excellent selection of Craft beers, and everything we tried on their list limited sized menu was really really good! Seems to be fav with the locals.
Just had a great experience my first time at Rhino. Our server was there exactly as much as needed (you know that magic I'm talking about), was friendly and delivered me delicious drinks, even with the modifications I requested. Really well done to our server and the bartender. Thanks for the great night! Cheers!
Large drink menu offering. Limited food offering (which is for the best). It's a place to drink lots with friends or a neighborhood watering hole. Pool tables in the back add to the experience.
Had signature burger, WOW! Sampled fellow visitors choices and a couple of appetizers, flawless. Coupled with the unparalleled beer selection, you're missing out if you haven't tried it.note: I understand they have a great wine selection.
The Rhino is a great local watering hole. This is a vegan friendly bar and they even indicate on their menu which beers are vegan. They have a solid beer selection and always new and interesting beers on their rotating taps. A Parkdale gem.
Food is ok. Drinks are a bit pricey; my buddy got 2 pints and had to go, so he threw down a 20, which left a 20 cent tip, so I tipped more on his bill after he left.
Very chill atmosphere for a Queen Street restaurant. Not noisy or particularly busy. Service and food are top notch and there are nice pool tables to have fun.
Went there for drinks for friends birthday. Took quite some time for anyone to serve us so a couple friends went to bar for drinks. When our server did come she made a comment about this. Throughout the 2 hours we were there our server came briefly a couple of times. Friend and I went to bar for another drink as she hadn't come to our table in quite some time. When she saw this she immediately made a remark asking what we were doing, if there is a problem etc. I told her no, we just wanted another drink and hadn't seen her on a while. She looked visible irritated saying she had been to our table plenty. She proceeded to rant to her coworker right in front of us. The bartender was visibly embarrassed and apologetic for her behaviour. Once we went back to our table she immediately came over and told us all we had to settle our bills and order from the bar if we wanted more drinks. Very unprofessional behaviour. I understand the irritation of a table you're serving going to the bar for drinks, but had she been more attentive we wouldn't have had to do this. Serving isn't an easy job especially on a Saturday night but it is unprofessional to appear so obviously irritated from the minute we sat down. Hopefully her behaviour was an isolated incident as it's a pretty cool bar.
The Rhino is a fixture. A dingy, lackluster fixture that will one day probably be overtaken by bars trying harder, delivering better food and, um, looking better. In the mean time, the service is solid, the beer is good and the location is an advantage.
They've got lots on tap, you don't have to get the Rhino house beer, wings weren't that good, but it's spacious, it's got pool tables and lots of TVs to watch the game, it also has cool Rhino heads around, lol
I had noticed the patio area a few times passing there and said must check this place out. Well I did with a party of 3 others. We enjoyed our night there and stayed inside. It reminded me more of a bar back home and had good feel to it with an eclectic mix of punters. It has a big circular bar and easy to order a drink.
The bar staff were really good and efficient. There is a huge selection of beers including the Rhino range which is good with reasonable pricing too. There are a couple of pool tables as well.didn't try the food here as had already eaten but will be back again for sure 4+.
I would have given a better review if it wernt for the owner of this establishment deciding to argue with me, telling me that no one has ever complained about her food before so I must be wrong. If you are going to make your own version of a sauce, that tastes nothing like what people have come to know and love. Warn them. Put it on your menu, so I dont order it; state that the tartar sauce here is actually creamy dill sauce that tastes nothing like tartar; that way your customers are AWARE of this. When you serve a staple such as fish and chips, it is expected that there will be people who will want tartar sauce for their fish, not dill. When a customer discloses their distaste in the sauce made, do not tell them that "people prefer it over regular sauce" if I wanted the opinion of what other people like, I would ask. Also stating there is an issue with cross contamination between your "vegan" mayo and regular mayo being the reason you dont have regular mayo, may have made sense if you didnt have it posted on your menu that meat and meat alternatives are grilled together. If cross contamination was such an issue then maybe you should have separate grills for your food?
I think the saddest part of all of this is the fact that the woman I dealt with is the supposed owner. Maybe⁸ this is why the place has been through so many different management changes over the years. Maybe the next owner will get it right, because this one surely didnt.
Used to be my favourite local place! Definitely gone down over the years. I'm pretty sad. Service takes an ungodly amount of time; every time I've gone in the past year, only one server seems like they care (usually not the server's fault, I often find that if management is bad the servers lose faith but idk, didn't wanna blame them). Food and drink are yummy though, but everything feels dingy and stinky, especially if you go to the washrooms. The whole basement reeks like pee as soon as you start going down the stairs. I miss what this place used to be.
Good place to observe tables of drunk shrieking middle aged white women. Food is fine and prices are pretty good considering you get dinner and a show.
