The Roti Hut

I’ve been coming here twice a week for the past five years, Recently, the food has been awful.
Not sure if there’s new management or new owners, but I’m never coming back after what I got.
Just horrible, Please don’t come here.

I've been going to Roti Hut for years. It used to be the only place to get good rotis consistently. It might be under new management because my last 3 visits have been subpar or worse. The food was stale, tasted off and the roti skin tasted more like a pita. Service has always been unfriendly so no change there. I will finally venture out and try other spots. I do not recommend this restaurant for goat or chicken rotis.

Overcooked mushy filling in roti. The chana was also overcooked and mushy, like mashed potatoes. Disgusting. Threw it in the garbage. Waste of money. Avoid.

I’ve been going here for over 30years and the taste, quality and service has dropped. Went on Sunday and was the only person there and cashier took my order. Im seeing everyone in the back doing their duties and 1 girl in the window frying doubles. She is seeing me there waiting and continued frying. After 15mins she finally stopped frying and wrapped my roti. Paratha is not light a flakey as it used to be. It’s more like nan bread. Curry doesn’t even taste the same. Bye bye after 30+ years. Sent a friend there Monday and they waited for 10mins at the cash and no one came. They left and ask why did I even refer them there. Poor food, no quality and poor service.

A friend of mine picked up a curry goat and white rice for me and it was enjoyable. The curry sauce had a nice balance of flavor. The saltiness of the sauce not overwhelming the spice. The boneless meat cubes are chunkier than that other roti place in the area, which means you'll be chewing on dry goat meat a little while longer. The white rice was fine but paying extra for rice and peas isn't fine. Stick to the roti!

This place is and has been, one of the best in the city for years. Always consistently good food.

I came there and ordered a boneless goat spicy. First it wasn't spicy at all then it lacked alot of flavor. I took 1 bite and found a long thin hair wrapped around the goat meat. Threw the whole thing out!
That was my 1st time there and trust me ill never go back again.

Wish this place could dine in, the decor had a nice modern by island feel to it. Food was still delicious when we got home. Oxtail was yum yum, chicken roti n chicken double was on point, stew chicken was a bit on the sweet side but my son killed it still. Definitely going bck to try the other stuff on the menu.

Great food but wait time to get it is horrible. If you have the time to wait, then this place is worth it because the food is on point.

Is this called rice? This is the cheapest quality of rice that is used. The food is extremely spicy and I wasn’t even given a choice of whether I want it less spicy or more.
The girl in the front was extremely rude and mannerless. We were waiting at the front for a while and the girl was busy doing something behind the desk and didn’t even respond to us. She didn’t know how to behave or give information about the dishes in the menu.
Suggestion: If you really want customers to like your restaurant, first hire good and well behaved staff, and then get good quality products for cooking.
This was my first time visiting this place and will for sure be the last time visiting.

By far the best Trinidadian food in Scarborough. The flavor is very authentic and the staff always very and smiling. Love the food here.

The beef roti we ordered was delicious. The portions are pretty generous, enough to share a meal. Can't wait to go back!

Had an EXCEPTIONAL experience with catering a baby shower with Roti Hut. Mrs. B was so attentive to our needs and really helped guide us in how much food we would need. She was accommodating and generous with her time. The pick-up on the day of went perfectly and the food was FANTASTIC. We ordered the ox tail, jerk chicken, paratha rotis, doubles and rice and peas. All portions were extremely generous and we had plenty leftover at the end. I wouldn't hesitate to cater with Roti Hut in the future! Thank you Mrs. B!

This used to be the best authentic Trinidadian rotis in Toronto and my go to place for my roti cravings. But lately their roti is not what it’s used to be.

I usually order the Chicken Breast Boneless Curry roti and I now find that they’re skimping on fillings and there’s not enough sauce inside the roti. The meat is also rather dry and the dhal puri flatbread is not fresh and tasted old.

Not also a fan of their doubles, too mushy for my liking and filled mostly with bland curried channa (chickpeas).

I also find the service slower than before. You always end up waiting more than 15 mins for your order eventhough it’s not busy and there’s no lineups.

With limited places to go in Toronto for the best Trini roti (and I’ve tried a lot of them), I’m having second thoughts of coming back to Roti Hut and just suppressing my roti cravings until I find the next best place.

The food tasted good. The problem is I order and was told 20 mins and still had to wait 15 mins after I arrived. This has happened more than once.

Curry duck was dry as my eye.almost chocked. I swear the microwaved some frozen curry. I will just be getting their peanut punch from now on.

The Shrimp Roti is very good.
Be prepared to wait in line for a long time as they receive a lot of orders and they do not take phone orders ahead of time!

Two things I can’t stand in the food service industry is poor quality service and lack of common sense. Unfortunately for Roti Hut, they displayed both.
They don’t take orders over the phone for whatever reason - I realized it’s probably a good thing with them. I ordered a boneless chicken roti, extra spicy and a patty. Lady that took my order said that it’s going to be a 10 minute wait - not a problem. But then she took the patty out of the warmer, into a bag and handed it to me. I asked her if she can keep it in there until I get my order, she took the patty back. Then came the daunting wait. 30 mins later, she called out my order - bone roti. I told her that I asked for boneless, extra spicy. Someone waiting behind me had to confirm to her that I indeed ordered boneless. Very poor quality service. 5 minutes later, I got my proper order. When I asked for my patty, I expected her to take it out of the warmer but instead it was just sitting on the counter. This lady didn’t have the common sense to keep the thing warm. She herself, might have low standards for food, I certainly don’t. Use your brain. The patty was cold when I got to my car, let alone when I got home. I’d love to see how many ppl are okay with cold food. I’d have some mercy with this place if the food was exceptional but it was sub par. Very underwhelming. I realize this place has been around forever, but they clearly don’t care for their own standards. Lots of places now in the Toronto/Scarborough area that serves roti and I recommend going elsewhere - any other place aside from Roti Hut. They don’t care and not only does it show in the food but in the service. Go somewhere else

Bone dry roti, full of fat, very little meat, half roti is just folded with no filling. What a terrible experience. Will not return at this place

Food is amazing, never disappoints and the prices are reasonable. Staff could be a little friendlier but you know how Caribbean’s are lol

If I can give it 0 stars I would. The food is okay, not that great. I ordered from this location twice, and both times they disregarded me when I ordered, and act like they are doing me a favour that they are taking my order. Even for the smallest order, they make you wait at least 30 minutes.

Great roti and doubles nice quite atmosphere to enjoy a nice lunch or dinner love the doubles to will definitely be back again

I have been coming here for years. Best Roti ever. I always get the boneless chicken. I tried it with the rice and peas yesterday. Oh my god! I was not disappointed. The rice and & peas here are soooooo good Wills defs be going back and try experimenting with the menu more.

DON'T BOTHER GOING HERE!

The food is not good. I had the 2 boneless chicken and they gave me one chicken and one potato! No appology at all. The food was cold and all bread with very little filling. I clearly asked for hot sauce and they didn't even put any in. All most anywhere else is better and less expensive.

Best. Roti. In. Scarborough. Maybe even the city. My go to order is currently the stewed beef, tender, tons of umami, with a tinge of tang. I've also tried the jerk chicken (boneless), curry goat, and curry chicken, all of which are absolutely scrumptious.

I have been coming here for years and the rotis (goat, chicken, veggie, beef, conch (!) have never disappointed. The doubles are amazing and service is quick and friendly. It's one of the best roti places in the city.

Yum yum.great service and great food. Didn't really know what to eat so I asked the lady at the front (very nice) and she recommended jerk chicken roti and some shrimp roti, also something called doubles with meat. All of it was delicious. Great job.

They also sell a variety of other authentic Trini cuisine.

A Scarborough institution.

Although there were a couple of mishaps, it was worth it at the end.

It all started with an Uber Eats order that went from a half-hour preparation time to almost an hour! We considered canceling but the fees were ridiculous so, we sticked to the plan.

Once we got to the restaurant, we still had to wait about another 20 minutes. Yes! It gets that busy and, the flow inside was erratic. Once we got our order, we had to walk back in because we were actually missing a part of our order.

Anyways, back home, it proved to be one of the best home-style Caribbean food that we have tried.

We ordered a Goat Roti (Boneless), Shrimp Roti, Small Jerk Chicken Portion and Potato Balls.

The flavors were delicious, the Jerk Chicken was addictive with a nice kick of heat, the Rotis were quite satisfying and the fillings portion was pretty good!

I wish the Goat was just a little less chewy and the filling made of just meat but, it was well cooked. The Potato Balls turned out to be more of a chewy bland dough (maybe they suffered from the transportation) but, everything else sealed the deal.

I love this place. The size of the roti is so filling for what you pay for and the patties are really good, too. I had a Jerk Chicken Roti the last time I went and there was a good amount of Chicken inside along with the potatoes. When I want roti, this is where I go.

Great and clean Caribbean Restaurant with fun Soca, Reggae music (tunes and vibes). Beautiful and comfortable interior adds to the appeal and experience.

We came in and ordered 2 Boneless Goat Rotis (plain with potatoes) and 4 of each chickpea as well as pumpkin and spinach doubles with AppleJ and Tropical Rhythm Mango Passion Fruit drinks. House tamarind and hot sauces on the side. The food was delicious and the portions were generous.

Went here over the weekend and let me tell you there are so many other better places to get roti. I had the small boneless chicken roti and paid about $14. First they serve it in a bag wrapped with wax paper. I'm like really? All the other places I have ever been to serve it in container. The roti was ALL wrap and maybe 2 PC's of chicken with 2 or 3 potatoes and little to no curry so it was very very dry. Save your money.no value at all.

Best product you will ever eat in your life. Everything here has been absolutely phenomenal. Probably the best curry goat as well. Those are the only two meat dishes that I've eat so far. Also the potato balls were phenomenal. The picture I took could have been better I already dug in and was eating it LOL couldn't resist

Absolutely amazing food! The pumpkin and the spinach doubles are soo delicious. The roti is on point and the flavours are really good. Definitely will be my new roti spot from now on

We ordered 2 curry chicken roti and 1 small rice n peas 2 pop if you ask for oxtail gravy on the rice its a $1.00 they tell you after, it cost me $38.00
The roti were half empty and one roti was ripped the chicken and curry went everywhere all over me and my car plus no napkins in the bag.
Was not a great experience.

A must-visit if you're ever in town and love Caribbean/West Indian cuisine. Even during a pandemic, this place almost always has a line out the door; the food is that amazing. The cashier is super kind and patient!

Over hyped reviews. Doubles were dry. Not worth traveling from T. O to Scarborough just to try out this place

My go to spot for doubles! When I need something spicy, this place hits the spot and for a reasonable price.

I ordered the pack of 7 meals. Stew chicken, jerk chicken and curry chicken roti. Yummy! I grew up in Scarborough but now live in Caledon, its impossible to get good west Indian or Jamaican food. The only good thing to come out of covid is their meal packs. Customer service is excellent too. I needed to postpone my delivery by a week and they did so no problem. My only complaint is the roti is cut in half. I would like my whole roti, not half of one. I will be ordering again, hopefully I can add extra roti!

I ordered 3 Paratha and 3 dalphari roti skins which were pretty good. However the curry chicken I ordered was too salty and watery and expensive for the serving size (large curry chicken costed me $27.00). When I got home I had to cook down the curry to thicken it up a bit. Service is sub par. The person taking my order was a bit rude and seemed bothered when I tried to ask questions about the dishes they served.

Terrible customer service. Ordered some doubles and roti, charges extra for gravy, sauce or anything basic like that. They don't care for your business and only want your cash.

Food's decent compared to other roti shops in the East End, but takes forever. Really no point in calling ahead when you end up waiting 20-30 minutes anyway when you get there.

Consistently good food. Buy the house pepper sauce. It's awesome and I find I usually want it to make the food a little extra spicy.

My first experience with Roti. Had the boneless chicken breast roti, with curry gravy on top. The Roti tasted great, but a little salty. I would come back again, but I can't give it 5 star.

The restaurant was very clean, and Caribbean music playing. You order up front, and no fountain drinks available except bottled drinks.

Roti Hut catered a community party for 25 people this weekend and they were absolutely incredible. The food was amazing, the customer service was way above and beyond, the price was fair and all of our guests were blown away. They are still talking about how delicious the food was!
We had:
-the jerk chicken, which was saucy and delicious - the most popular dish at the party
-chicken curry - amazing!
-rice and peas - fluffy and light
-cole slaw which was creamy and the perfect compliment
-potato channa - creamy and delicious!
-doubles - such a hit, we should have ordered more.
I cannot recommend this place enough. They were accommodating, easy to work with and really just lovely overall. Can't wait to work with them again!

First visit for lunch and enjoyed the beef roti! You order your food and the staff will bring your order to your table. The food came out fast. This place is clean. Friendly staff.i will be back in the near future to try out the other offerings.

The roti is very dry, not fresh at all, and completely unappetizing! Do. Not. Recommend. I ordered 2 rotis from uber eats for $24, I wouldn't normally say this but it is really gross. There is something dry and flaky on it that gets everywhere. Extremely disappointed.

Honestly there are so many better authentic places you could go to.last time i came here i grabbed a handful of doubles and roti.first off why was the chana hard? And my shrimp roti barely had any shrimp in it.seems to me like they are slowly drifting away from their authenticity.quite sad as it used to be good here.on to the next!

Love the food here, sit in or take out! If you’re looking for authentic west Indiana food this is the place to come. Ive been here when the line for take out has been quite long but aside from that great experience

Always fast and great service, food is always on point here and the doubles are good. Would recommend if your feeling like a good curry and roti. Keep up the good work!

A hidden gem. I had a jerk chicken curry roti and it was phenomenal! Exquisite balance of flavour and spices with a generous portion size.

Been eating there for more then 20yrs. When I have craving for roti, there is where I go. When I asked for extra sauce. No problem, it's done. Nice clean modern place.

Been going here for years. The place has expanded since we started going in the 90's. But food has not gone downhill. Still one of the good places in scarbaria

Tried this Caribbean restaurant for the first time. Enjoyed it! Very nice atmosphere - calypso music, clean and new decor. Ordered a variety of dishes including boneless chicken roti, curry beef on rice with dahl, and goat roti. Friendly and prompt service. Food was tasty. Fully recommended!

Far lower than expectations.microwaved pre made roti and bland doubles.my take - not worth the drive as there are much better places around. Goat roti was dry, Doubles bland. Potato balls were ok.with all regards, people who are rating this place 5 star may not have had a real roti or doubles.very sad

I was looking for carribian food for long time and finally found the amazing place. Best carribian food I've ever tasted. I have visited so many times and tried few different things on the menu so far. My favourite is jerk chicken and goat rotti. Service was quick but the guy who taking my order was rude.should improve their customer service but giving them four stars for the perfect food. Can't wait to try other items in menu. Highly recommend this place.

The Roti was soft and the curry was excellent. It is the best curry I have tasted as compared to other West Indian resturant.

Order 2nd time now through skip the dishes, roti is delicious but now on both occasions my small order of rice and peas was cold, like COLD and no fork either! Also a little pricey.

Ordered once again today through uber eats which is how my other orders were placed, this time food was hot but I did not recieve my grace pineapple so I called and spoke to a woman who told me she was going to call the uber driver and call me back.that was almost an hour ago and still no call back from her.

Costumer service is great but price is bad. So expensive. Don't buy the double portion one. Not worth it. Shrimp for $20 is so little

My shrimp roti was good. I also had a bowl of dahl which was OK but not great. I think food on the whole, has become too expensive. However, I will recommend this place for families. It is clean and the service efficient.

Great food but. But pricey. Very clean. Jerk chicken on rice very nice. Boneless jerk chicken Ritu nice to. But the doubles are amazing.
