Tonight I came in with my friend and the server appeared bothered by us the moment we walked in. He did not want to accept my valid piece of ID. I’ve never had this issue at this establishment. When I questioned why he was very standoffish and made no sense. I will not be coming to this establishment.
Nothing like sitting outside at the corner of a very busy intersection.it's really too bad this neighbourhood doesn't have more patios. Service is top notch. I'd skip the food.
Jenny was amazing! She was super sweet and nice. It was bit of a wait because there weren’t a lot of servers but Jenny was super friendly regardless of how busy it was. I had antajitos which is new menu item and it was pretty good. White sangria was really good as well.
Lindsay served us and was amazingly accommodating. We were a rambunctious group (of adults and a baby) that had to move tables as more people arrived and we all ended up changing places. Not only did she serve us with a smile no problem the whole time, she got all of our bills correct at the end without hesitation. It was pretty amazing! Great service.
My partner and I went to get something to eat late at night, the server was extremely rude. Acting like it was a very big inconvenience that we were there. I understand being busy but the least she could’ve done was serve us with a smile. Lol. She was the only one server that seemed to be working, which is understandable why we didn’t get served right away. But she kinda did ruin my experience there. The food wasn’t anything to write home about either, our spinach dip was cold in the middle and our fish tasted like it was pure oil. The music was also really weird there? They were playing dubstep at a pub? Anyways definitely won’t be going back here.
I had a really nice classic breakfast on a sunday. Reasonable price. Perfect service. Nice and bright from the big windows. Better than clock tower IMO.
Was nice and really cool after a couple of hours in the heat of the Night Asian Fest. Food delectable! I was surprised to see more women than men in there. Unexpected. Service was a bit slow my husband says but on my end time flew by except when it was time to pay then our gorgeous server had disappeared.
Good place for all three meals (breakfast is a little light but good). The usual royal oak treatment. Good food, service was very quick and friendly. Parking can be difficult since it downtown ottawa
Fair experience. That pub rarely impresses me. I was there with friends and we sat outside. It started to rain, we grabbed out drinks and moves inside, only to be told that we cannot be walking around outside with drinks in hand. (we just went from the outside patio to the main entrance using the one and only path = side walk. It was a 4 second walk. Appetizers were ok, food was also ok. Not impressive. I have the impression the cook and waiters are just either tired or fed up.
There are better places out there. I always liked other locations for the royal oak, I do hope this one picks up the service and food quality at some point.
Very little in the way of vegan options - the "buda bowl" turned out to be mostly just iceburg lettuce Ave was quite a disappointment. Also be warned that the Thai noodle bowl which is labeled as vegetarian contains shrimp in the sauce. Nice patio location.
Such a good local pub - The food's good, the drinks are good and the service is good I've been quite a few times now and can say it's definitely consistently good too. Can't fault it! Oh, and they have a cute little patio area - it's a bit noisy next to the road, but that doesn't bother me personally
Despite the fact that this is a "british" pub there was no english style beer. The roast beef dip sandwich was made with processed deli meat and the coke tasted like chlorine (from the dishwasher?). A real disappointment.
Fries are pretty good, and the drink selection is decent. Unfortunately there is definitely a few dishes that are not worth its money, and while it could have some serious pub charm, it feels at times more like a Boston pizza or other generic sports bar. Love the trivia nights though!
Made a reservation online and when I showed up they have no record of it. They told me to wait 10 mins for a table and after 30 mins of no change I just left. Staff seemed way too slammed to keep up with the tables. It seemed like it was filled with regulars so there wasn't a quick turnover. Due to the experience, I wound't go there again.
Chain restaurant masquerading as a pub. Slightly overpriced. Food, and drink is ok. Service is better at the bar. The original Oak was a historic dive bar on Bank street but they expanded and fixed them all up to appeal to a ‘business crowd’. Popular with yuppies, students and regulars from the old New Edinburg Pub that was at the same location.
The French toast lacked flavour and was made with regular sliced bread rather than say an upgrade like brioche. The onion soup was okay but too salty.cheese on top was good. The fried curds were good.
Very disappointed in the item descriptions for their online menu. I hate surprises. Ordered a buffalo chicken wrap and asked no tomatoes which was fine. Problem is that no where in the item description does it mention having onions in it, (I HATE onions) yet lol and behold it's full of chalots and I cant eat it because it disgusts me. Good job. Rest of the food was fine.
I don't appreciate being treated like an inconvenience when I'm standing, waiting to pick up an order with my wallet open. 3 staff passed me without acknowledgement. I finally called them standing at the Entrance and only then did someone decide to assist. Customer service is NOT a suggestion.
This is another great Oak location, with a nice is patio and your typical Oak food and drink menu. If you're in the area, it's a nice place to stop in!
This was my first time at the Beechwood location and I was not disappointed! We had a very short wait to get a spot on the patio and staff was quick to tidy and sanitize between customers. I ordered the vegetarian flatbread and was blown away. It was so good and I can't wait to come back and enjoy it again. My boyfriend had the vegan Buddha bowl and said it was such a great balance and even though it was all vegetables, he felt full and satisfied. We split an order of fries and were so pleasantly surprised. They were fresh, crunchy and so addictive. My grandmother ended up ordering the fish and chips. The fish was HUGE! It was perfectly breaded with not too much coating and fried to golden brown. We look forward to making this our usual lunch spot!
Great pub. Excellent staff. Good food. Love how the tables have clear signage for online menus if you don’t want a paper one. Server made reference to the scannable menus and also offered a paper menu if we wanted.
Save 15% on pick up / takeout orders. This place had a little bit of a line up for the patio when we went but that’s fine. You’d expect that right now - and you can clearly see them disinfect the tables between guests.
Bathrooms are available through the front door. (The side door access to the patio / indoor dining is for servers to go in and out.)
Mid-week late lunch was decent here. Flat bread was excellent & beer glasses were chilled and clean (draught lineup now overly 'micro' -but that's imo).
Avoid asking for the bill if the server appears to be texting to negotiate hostage releases.or swiping right.or whatever to pass the time and shirk.
Would not recommend. 75 dollars for 2 fish and chips n they were freeze burned.l called the next day as l didn t want to make a scene as my friend was treating me on the day we dined.the manager took 3 days to call me back n demanded the original receipt no apology nothing/!
Tables are well spaced on the patio were I sat. Waitresses are friendly and efficient. Reduced menu size as expected. Can pay with cash. Had the pizza which was good. Some tables on patio intentionally left unused for distancing.
Good prices for beer and a good atmosphere. A little lackluster on the food. I've tried the fish tacos and the deep fried cheese curds. The fish was good, but the rest of the taco left a little to be desired. There was too much tortilla for the amount of filling, and sauces were kind of boring. The deep fried cheese curds were what you'd expect. They did a good job breading them and they came out hot so they couldn't really go wrong.
I’ve been here a bunch of times and it’s always great. Lots of options on the menu and a cozy experience. Always my go to. Their French onion soup is to die for.
So so experience. We have been there a couple of times and none of the bartenders know how to make a crown float. Seems strange as it's trying to tout itself as a UK pub vibe. Other pubs have nailed it in Ottawa but not these guys. Maybe it's just this one location but we don't go there anymore because of this one simple thing they can't get right.
Attended for pub quiz evening, service was average with expected wait times given the volume of customers. Beer selection is your typical host of domestic and import beers. This is your average Ottawa pub.
Used to go on regular basis. Spent 75$ for 9 chicken wings (supposedly 1 lb) a smoked meat sandwich (meat was the one you get from a bag that you boil to heat) bread although fresh was "moochy" because of boiled meat and 2 fries (for the price I was expecting fresh potatoe fries. NOPE!). Also house wine was 10$/glass.for house wine! Even told the person serving us that we hadn't gone since change the resto name and was told that even the employees miss the "old" resto. On a positive side, resto has a nice decor, clean presentation and wheelchair accessible. However bathroom are down stairs and the is no elevator! Won't be going back and would not recommend to friends or family.
The service is horrible. The waitress was extremely rude, arrogant, and unfriendly I have ever seen in my life. Asked her if there is any manager to talk to, she said " Yes, I am a manager ". Like really? Person with that attitude should not work there, that's for sure. Didn't make us feel like go back.
Beautiful place. Food is good. Only complaint is that they only make frozen drinks on the first floor and can't bring them to the second floor if you want to be up there ️
Friday fish and chips special. $15.50 (buck off reg price) nice big piece, tasty, batter a bit thick.hubby shared the $9.95 32 oz jug Belgian Moon. (with orange slices in if you want)
1. The temperature inside was so cold my nose was runny. 2. We had to seat ourselves. 3. I ordered chicken nachos and I asked for no jalapenos and the cook put them in like the waitress didn't even tell the cook no jalapenos. And there was 8 jalapenos in the nachos 4. I asked to exchange the salsa for guacamole. She ok'd it but then the bill came and she charged us? Also I told her I don't like people touching my straws and she came back with two straws in a cup without a wrapper on? 5.she barely even check on us or asked us if we needed anything
I think that most of the Royal Oaks around Ottawa are generally a solid 3 star pub. I've been to many of the different locations and typically have a similar experience at each of them. The New Edinborough location is no exception.
The food and service are okay. I'm not crazy about the menu selection, which is mostly your typical pub grub. They do change their menus from time to time, and have various seasonal fare offered throughout the year.
I enjoy the beer selection and often take advantage of their beverage promotions. I also like their various locations and the British pub ambiance inside.
I think the prices are a bit high, but don't mind dropping into an Oak once in awhile for the good beer and familiar food.
Do not go there to watch a World Cup match! This Pub has the worst customer service ever! They advertise they pass the World Cup games and first time I went the bar lady didn’t want to put on the sound until last minute when the game had already started and the music was still on so loud. The second time I asked for a reservation for 7 people at 10am and specifically asked if it was open at 10 am and the girl on the phone said yes and I show up there with 7 people and is closed and manager is like “whatever we open at 11”. Too bad they have such poor service being on a neighbourhood that is developing. Bad service, bad staff and the Clocktower Pub is just next door and clearly a better option.
