I agree that the Salvation Army’s pricing is ridiculous and inconsistent. I asked staff at checkout who does the pricing and was given two different names. That makes sense as some prices are reasonable and some are not. I find pricing is now on par with value village which is a for profit company. I don’t think the Salvation Army is a charity in the usual sense. They only want $$$ to proselytize and push their agenda.

I had an experience with one of their drug rehab facilities and they cut corners everywhere to simply put $$$ in their pockets. They were more concerned with pushing their religion on us than helping alcoholism and drug addiction. I was there by choice unlike the other women so I left after three days. I did fine without them and am sober five years.

Usually you can find deals and affordable prices in thrift stores, and that's how they've been for decades. No more. Don't walk in unless you are prepared to spend $20 for used shirts or $50 for a 1990s jacket. In these times when food is so expensive, saving money elsewhere is even more important than ever before. I and many others shop at thrift stores for this very reason. I wasn't able to find anything at this location, and I'm not sure I'll return. Another thing I avoid is using public restrooms, but I had to use one. The person who used it before me left urine in the toilet and all over the seat. I had to clean it myself before I could even use it. That's not the store's fault, but maybe have someone clean it once an hour if possible.

I guess because this is close to Leaside they think they can charge whatever they want….
Who’s going to buy ugly dusty art (and posters) for $50 and up? One painting was $100… insane
Ugly worn down filthy shoes for $20
Ikea bowls for $2.99 each

Yeeessshhhhh
I was at the SA in Lindsay ON 2 weeks ago, and it was totally different (reasonable) pricing…….

Won’t be back. Sad, used to love this store

I cant believe the prices in this store. Higher than any other one. Donated paintings are $500. Who would pay this? I asked the price on an item. The salesperson gave me price. Another quickly doubled the price when she saw me. I'm on disability thats why i shop in thrift stores. I rarely buy anything here. I would never donate there. Its only this location that is gauging people.
11 May 2023 17:27
Great selection of books and toys. New items brought out frequently. Self serve cashes available.
02 May 2023 20:55
It was OK I guess nothing special really prices were pretty high for a
Thrift store in my opinion. 40 dollars for a pair of used converse high tops yikes pass.
01 May 2023 8:00
There is sometimes some good stuff and the staff are nice and helpful, but the prices, oh my goodness, some items are more than their original price (original price tag still visible) they are charging on average $15-30 a dress, I saw a pair of sneakers for 80! There seems to be no system or consistency as to why some things are priced so high, the stuff isn’t laundered or curated like a vintage store, yet, it is priced like one, or even higher
08 October 2022 13:25
Love the staff. Love the prices. Love the openness. I try and spend an hour here every time I’m in the area
21 June 2022 13:45
Things in there is over priced due to the fact that is free things and mainly things from apt building where tenants die and Leave behind. I bought a glass there $0.99 went back it’s now $4.99
30 May 2022 22:20
It was exactly the thrift store experience you'd expect? A little overpriced on the junk electronics, though?
23 May 2022 5:57
The electronics is over-priced here. Who pays $70 for a mediocre cassette deck? Who ever bought it got ripped off!
14 May 2022 14:43
Some of the staff in this store are very rude to costumers, especially one particular she will tell you to hang clothes, just because she thinks you touched it!
I come here at least twice a week and sometimes more and I have experienced them turning the lights off at 7: 50 every single time. I confronted them about it and they denied it! This is a hazard and lawsuit waiting to happen if someone gets hurt. It's there way of pushing people out and they also lock the doors even before 8!
20 April 2022 5:22
Possibly the most overpriced thriftstore I've ever been to. I've never seen prices like this before. Unbelievable
11 September 2021 12:45
I live in the area, overall the the store is ok (sometimes things are overpriced, like a Coach bag was put up for $100. You could find a similar bag in their outlet location for under $150 and that would be a newer design, Also you could find better bags in winners and Marshals for that price. Its a community store, but i guess the problem is all over second hand shops in GTA, you go outside GTA, you will find fair pricing)

I have been avoiding to go to this location. I visited the store today, regretted it right away as I couldn't stand the loud music. This have bothered me before and I decided to ask the lady at the front desk if they can bring the volume down a bit as it was very hard for me to focus, and it was very distracting. She said manager isn't here. I even asked how do they stand it, she said they have gotten used to it. I would strongly suggest for the management to create an environment that's suitable for everyone, anyways I don't get why stores play music to begin with if someone wants to listen to any music, they can play their own personal list on their phone and blast it.but if they have to play it, why so Loud that it almost feels disturbing as I am there to enjoy my shopping. I will try to avoid going there unless I have to (which i doubt)

I had a really fun time with family today at Kennedy thrift store location.they play music but its not bad at all.just in the background.

I would appreciate if this location will take a notice
Please and Thank you.

This is intended to responded to MAYLA DELA CRUZ review.
Stop swapping the prices of the items. People aren't stupid.
Don't be a cheapskate. Homeless people are more honest and will pay the correct price.

I love shopping at this store, I always come here to shop and to donate. My only issue is that three separate occasions now when I’m about to cash my items, one particular cashier ERLINDA has been changing my finds prices on the spot, telling me that I should pay more. And the price tag wasn’t right. The recent one was from an item priced at 9.99 she asked me to pay $50 instead cause it SHOULD cost more. It’s the third time. I don’t know why are you supposed to asked customers to pay more for something that’s donated. I don’t usually leave this kind of review but the system here is not right. People shop at thrift store because we like good deals and affordable prices, it doesn’t matter what the brand is. You can’t just change it whenever you want. It’s not right! I hope the management do something about this.

I love this place, a great selection of used as well as brand new items. The staff are friendly and helpful and I like to donate and then receive a discount coupon for my next purchase. I've found some beautiful fabrics and designer clothes and shoes in mint condition just leave yourself enough time to really look around. My only criticism is that sometimes when it's busy there aren't enough cashiers and checking out can take awhile so make sure you have left yourself 15 or 20 minutes to get cashed out.
18 April 2021 20:57
Very friendly staff and you can find there’s huge varieties. My go to thrift store. Recommended 100%

Salvation Army Stores have invented "second hand retail", and they remain the best option regardless of the copycats.

This location is new. The layout is modern, and the selection is brilliant.

Plus YOU NEVER PAY TAX at their stores (unlike the 'village').
19 January 2021 13:01
Decent selection and well organized. Lots of Christmas decorations for the holidays, some furniture, clothes, housewares, books, etc.
05 December 2020 14:34
Big store with amazing staff. I have been here a dozen times and never had an issue. The woman who is manning the door to make sure people sanitize and have masks is absolutely wonderful. My only issue is with customers who try on clothes in the aisles and then just throw them over the racks or on the floor instead of rehanging them. Very disrespectful to the hard working staff. Reasonable prices and helpful positive staff.
08 November 2020 17:26
I donate items of clothing at Salvation Army and sometimes I buy clothing; want to donate items or clothing it's open; the drop off in the back of the building.
14 October 2020 18:27
I really enjoy this location.but I gotta say the organization in this place is kind of messed up. Why sort things by color? Who walks into a store knowing that they want something that is a specific color. If I want a mug there is no mug section I have to look through a rainbow of color coated shelves. There will be bowls, vases, toys and just other random stuff on the same self just because there are all yellow? It makes no sense! Put the cups with the cups, put the bowls with the bowls I don't give a damn what color they are. But honestly I love this store and it has a bunch of great stuff. That just bugs me so much.
12 October 2020 15:28
It is a well managed store with a friendly atmosphere. Staff are working hard shelving, tiding up the store all the time, helping customers whenever needed it. I enjoy very much visiting the place.
22 July 2020 22:43
I recently had experience of visiting Overlea location and was disappointed by the rude attitude of one of the staffs there. Instead of responding to my question she started arguing with me in a harsh manner. Staff at this location need training how to speak with customers. Can not dare to visit again.
14 April 2020 21:08
Really useful place, even if you have conditions to pay more for something new. You can find good stuffs in excellent conservation. Of course, you have to dig and spend some minutes (or hours) to find the right size or color.
All that place is well organized and there are some staff to ask for help if you need. For furniture, be sure if it is everything all right. For electronics, there is a power outlet to test before you buy. And you can return if you are want.
21 March 2020 23:57
I buy clothes for my family as well as household utility and other miscellaneous items. I also donate clothes and other items. Earlier I was given discount coupons on donating, but now they dont give such coupons. These coupons have helped seniors like me. Can salvation army re-start this practice?
18 March 2020 13:46
I came to this location because I heard how big it is. It's not as big as I thought it would be. I struggled to find clothing that I liked. It was a tad expensive for second hand stuff.
05 March 2020 4:23
Bought a down-filled Gap vest (white) for $7.99. (Original price was almost certainly $100+). Clean. Beautiful condition. With flanelette pockets. Made my day!
28 January 2020 9:27
Friendly staff, new material usually brought out every couple days, awsome place for decorating on a budget and fair prices.
31 December 2019 21:18
Great location, clean, tidy & organized. Huge selection always being refreshed throughout the day. Very reasonable prices on a variety of items. Avoid, unless you are comfortable with crowds, during rush hour in the evenings as it can be just as busy inside as it is on Overlea Blvd. Not much parking in front or on the side, you may have to park behind store & walk to front to enter
11 December 2019 17:33
I always find good deals/discounts. Is a good store to buy things to decorate your house with a low budget or you just want to find different or unique pieces
29 October 2019 12:05
The days of finding good bargains at thrift stores is scarce, which is pretty sad for the less fortunate folks that depend on them more than others. Large store, very clean and items are sectioned properly. Don't find the prices to be very competitive to be honest, or those "hidden gems" in here, that is also the same feedback I see from other reviewers despite what the store may say.
29 September 2019 14:59
Store is very clean and there is plenty of parking. It's close to a mall, coffee shops etc which is very handy. The only problem is that prices have gone up dramatically. For instance a glass measuring cup was 15.99! You could buy a brand new one for that price. But there are still bargains to be found and it is a good store overall. It is set up nicely and you could get a wheelchair through the aisles no problem. Some of the items are arranged by colour which could be handy. I wish the book section was divided into genres. The staff is friendly and helpful. There are changing rooms to try on clothes. They often have sale days. You can drop off donations around the back which is convenient.
15 September 2019 21:41
The Salvation Army store at 60 Overlea Blvd is one of the largest in Toronto with many great donations from the Leaside Community. I found a $200. Breville Toaster for $9.99. Perfect working condition and hardly used. Great clothing deals and Sales every Friday with super markdowns. Furniture for student apartments and great choice of used electronics too. Store is clean and organized. Lots of changerooms and Staff are very helpful and polite.
04 September 2019 13:06
Dropping off donations at the back of the store is easy. Ring the buzzer if the door isn't open and they are quick to open. The store itself has their household items displayed by colour, which is convenient. Furniture and bedding are at the back of the store. Pricing for clothes are much cheaper than Value Village and they too, are sorted by colour. They hold auctions, which seem to be popular. They do have dressing rooms and a washroom as well. They have a security guard on site and they have parking out front and to the side of the building. Friendly staff, always thanking me for my donations and for my purchases.
17 July 2019 10:41
90% of unsold clothing is exported for cheap and their prices are too expensive for low income families and homeless people they are not helping anyone and discriminate against LGBTQ do not trust them
09 July 2019 15:20
Awful customer service from the cashier. I brought some items up and after she tried to price them higher than what they were suppose to be. I told her that it was a mistake to which she got upset and stated that it was actually suppose to be the price she wanted it to be. Not trying to be rude I just asked if she could ask her manager. To which grab one of my items and tossed the rest towards me. Told the manger that it was suppose to be so and so price, but the manager told her to ring it up to the correct price. Not sure why the cashier wanted me to pay more for something was donated. Then she rang up one of my items twice! I told her and she rolled her eyes, told me the price. I paid and she shoved my purchase at me. I told the manger how upset I was and didn’t understand what I did to upset her. She assured me she was probably just having a bad day. I left my donation and thanked the manager for her help. I doubt I’ll return to this value village. Reasoning for not giving it a 1 star was the managers attempt to make me feel better. I do appreciate it and I’m sorry that the cashier was having a bad day.

The staff keep the place neatly organized and even sort clothes based on color. There isn't much selection of shoes though, for guys anyway.
