The scone and coffee was nice, but the staff behind the register made me feel completely unwelcome there and I witnessed the same behavior with the customer before and after me. Other staff behind the counter were also slamming lids and doors around making very loud noises making me keep jumping in my seat every other second as if they were all mad about something. I hope I just caught them on a bad day and they are usually way nicer to their customers.

I'm absolutely devastated to admit this, but I can't keep pretending or wasting my hard-earned money on these scones anymore. It breaks my heart because I've cherished these scones for the longest time. However, I can't ignore the undeniable truth the quality has taken a nosedive.

I used to visit this place regularly, but now, the scones taste nothing like they used to. I bought orange-flavored ones, and they lacked any semblance of orange taste. I was dumbfounded and hoped it was a one-time thing, but it's become a recurring nightmare with other flavors. It's been going on for months, and these scones aren't exactly cheap, mind you.

Perhaps they're under new ownership because, in my experience, that's usually the cause for such drastic alterations. It's beyond disappointing, it's downright disheartening. I can't see myself spending another dime here, and frankly, I don't think you should either.

Wonderful and delicious, outdoor seating and indoor. Jams were amazing. Several steps up - hard for my mother

What kind of coffee place doesn't have a bathroom! Well.this one! And masks? What.that is so over!:/
30 July 2023 16:08
Quiet place and a great location. Best place for scones!

I wish I could have a better experience eating on-site and not only go in, buy scones $$$, and go out again. Staff needs to improve on its customer service.

Mask (burial 1
Disposable provision) You can order/pick up by writing
The scones are normally delicious, and the latte was a bummer.
13 May 2023 13:19
Simple interior yet tasty scones — try one with salmon and spinach — and very friendly family-like staff. Bring your mask with you, since you are allowed in in mask only. Though, if you plan to have a bite in the cafe, you will be able to take you Maso off at the table? ‍️

Had a BLT. Was very good as usual and finished off with raspberry chocolate scone. Couldn't really taste raspberry but was delicious anyways. Staff was great but got really noisy with banging at one point. Still really nice place for tea and sandwiches.
16 April 2023 0:41
The scone sandwiches are good. My favourite is the goat cheese with tomato and basil. They have two (raspberry and jalapeño) low gluten scones which are gluten free scone but with a risk of cross contamination. I didn’t have any issues after eating them but can’t promise the same for others. The design is quite outdated and believe the place needs a big makeover. Also the service wasn’t the best. Overall an ok experience which could have been way better if there were some minor changes.
26 March 2023 9:52
Definitely the best scones I ever had. Service can be a bit warm. My favorite is the lemon poppyseed. I also had the scone sandwich with pesto and goat cheese and it was good but too much cheese.
12 February 2023 7:16
It’s 2023 and they still require masks to enter, but let customers eat inside without them.
11 February 2023 15:31
Pretty minimalist place, geared more towards taking out. Scones are reasonably good, which why I still go there. I am not sure why they ask for a tip, as this is not a restaurant. Staff seems pretty distant and cold.
23 January 2023 11:21
Amazing scones, buttery and moist, very much worth the money when compared to cheaper alternatives. Not necessarily my first option for coffee (there’s many other cafés nearby), but their hazelnut latte is amazing when I’m in the mood. I rarely have a chance to visit SconeWitch due to their limited hours, but it’s always been special whenever I can manage.

There’s a few recent negative reviews concerning their ongoing masking policy. Personally, I appreciate SconeWitch’s thoughtfulness. Despite the lack of a provincial mandate, COVID-19 still exists, as well as the flu. My opinion is that food service employees ought to mask regardless of a pandemic as a matter of hygiene, as well as patrons. Masking should not be a chore. It is altruism.

Additionally, it’s disappointing to see negativity towards the staff. There’s even a complaint about an employee being on their phone (why is this bad exactly?). Food service workers are not your personal butlers. They are often busy with many other tasks aside from serving you. Let these 20th century customer service norms disappear, please. Show empathy.

Anyway, love the scones, love the vibe!

My wife picked up sandwiches (ok scone-wiches) as a quick bite for our family of four. While it certainly was tasty, the inability for making adjustments was shocking. (Our 9 year old would have not like tomatoes or other vegetables on her sandwich, sorry scone-wich, and I would have liked to avoid the ensuing argument). So it should be a 4 star place, but compared to the Westboro Scone Witch, it just doesn't compare, hence the undeserving three star rating.

As a point of interest, when we went we were unaware of their continued mask policy thus preventing 3/4 of our family from entering to order our meal to go. While this clearly prevented us from allowing the kids to pick their meal (like that picky 9 year old), I fully support their right to enforce this but do want others to be aware

I love scones. Flakiness and crisp crumble edges …. Especially savoury ones. Unfortunately, despite all its raving reviews, the orange and cranberry scone I had was NOT!

Flavour: EXTREMELY disappointed! Inside was dry and no butter flavour nor savoury crisp that comes with a scone. On top of it, as you can see from the picture, cannot taste any fruit bits…. They had diced and minced very small amount of the fruits bits inside. Very sad looking and tasting scone!

Ambiance: open space with a few small bistro style round tables and small chairs. The rest looks like under renovation.

Food Options: while there are a few choices of scones, looks like brunch is only available on weekends. During week, only scones and scone sandwiches are available.

Overall, not good ambiance and definitely midiocre scones! Very disappointed. Maybe Thursday lunch is a bad day to be here!

A cute little place for Gourmet Sandwiches in the heart of Beechwood area.
I had a tuna sandwich and orange cranberry scones, and all tasted great; fresh and just the right amount of sugar.
- Masks are required.
- Service was a little slow cuz there were only two employees, and the shop could use one more staff member.
25 December 2022 7:46
It's like a takeout. The coffee is served in paper cups, even for dining in. The scones are of good, and there is a nice selection of sweet and savoury.
20 December 2022 7:17
Pretty disappointed! They should close this location - not inviting at all. I go there often, wanting to support the local businesses, but sometimes I don't feel like going. Staff needs a customer service refresher.
18 December 2022 23:02
Had the privilege of having SconeWitch be my indoctrination to savoury scones - what a mistake I made stepping through the door, not realizing the expensive habit I was getting myself into lol. All jokes aside, wonderful that keeps you coming back, with equally laudable service.
02 October 2022 7:51
Scones are great. Food is good too. Yet the one star is for the Covidian policy of still having to wear a mask when ordering directly from the counter. Then to go sit down and then take off your mask and eat.

There’s a garbage can next to the door (when you leave) that is full of masks that have been thrown out after one time use. Why’s that you ask? Since most people have moved forward and we no longer have mask mandates. Most people don’t carry masks with them so they are given when you don’t have one.

My main peeve here is the waste that is created by enforcing these mask mandates when they no longer exist. Should be optional. Think about the environmental impact all these masks are having in landfills, waterways and seas.

For a woke business they are sure going backwards.

Otherwise great food. Such a shame.
02 July 2022 23:38
Great scones, coffee, and tea choices. The sconewitch, eggwitch, and fruit compote are some of my favourites. Only wish the dark chocolate raspberry was a permanent scone! ️️️
13 June 2022 5:49
An Ottawa treasure. These scones are the BEST in the city! Highly recommend the vanilla and the cheddar. And the goat cheese / pesto sandwich is my favourite. Not cheap, but a good price for a weekend treat!:) And their scones of the month are always PHENOMENAL (the apple pie scone and the lavender scones have been my favourites so far)!
02 June 2022 4:29
It's not allowed to eat at this location; they have all their chairs stuffed in a corner and won't let anyone ear there (it's like going back to 2020).

Pretty tasty, though.
28 May 2022 0:26
Best scones in the city! Great variety of flavours - both sweet and savory - super reasonable prices. Strongly recommend the baked scones, they have frozen for take home but my oven never gets them quite right
23 April 2022 2:40
Very disappointed today as we tried to support our local business. Only to arrive and find that in person dining was not open. (There were 4 of us looking forward to a brunch date). Difficult parking also. We had to change plans. Doubt we’ll go back. Parking is too difficult. Please indicate on your web site if in person dining is not allowed
27 March 2022 2:00
Yum yum yum! I've tried multiple flavours of scones from here, sweet and savoury, and don't have any complaints. I only knocked off a star because they are a bit pricey for a treat and run out of popular flavours pretty early on weekends.
11 March 2022 6:41
These ppl are always fantastic to just talk to & for instance we found ourselves in a conversation about old native Pathways along the rivers lol. Totally odd. Lots of ppl like myself are picking up orders. They do deliver to your house but I missed my time frame whoops.
I get the wheat free raspberry ones & bc I'm allergic to wheat there's only 2 choices But at same time I can buy something yummy AND FRESH in my own neighborhood!
My friend was with me & she bought a vanilla cream scone & spelled so yummy!
I made sure to differentiate this is Not Celiac Friendly at all. Great for wheat allergy & possibly keto but that's it. Please Please keep this in mind! Across the street on Beechwood is the Metro. They have no fresh gf but usually a good amount of gf frozen. That's great for Celiac! Plus the manager will bring things in if he knows he has a customer for it. When I lived in walking distance he used to buy me Kinnikinnick branded gf.
12 December 2021 13:50
Love the scones, great place to get together and catch up on Beechwood. Cute little place on a busy street but great vibes. Love their orange-cranberry, lemon poppyseed, and currant ginger (Last two ate my favourites) with rhubarb ginger jam. Unfortunately I haven't tried their savory scones yet. Maybe another visit!
18 October 2021 14:26
Today it's a 2.scone had a hair on it and hot chocolate was watery. It was takeout and unfortunately these deficiencies were not realized until we were in another part of the city. Otherwise, in the past, it has always been a great experience.
26 November 2020 11:21
I take issue with some of the negative reviews. Ive been coming here for years now as I live in the area. Their scones arent especially flavourful thats true but Ive never taken issue with the staff (what kind of ridiculous standard is it to give negative points because every single person behind the counter didnt smile at you!? Get over yourself). Pandemic standards are the same or better than any other place in Ottawa. Breakfast sandwiches are amazing and the regular pre-COVID menu is too! Love this place. Its a Gem. But yes I wish it were open at breakfast time, before 10am, on a weekday.
14 November 2020 1:40
Come on the Scone Witch bakery is closed on a Monday morning at 9: 51? Let's do business safely and securely when scones and coffee are meant to be eaten and drank. Get with it and let's get those employees firing up the ovens. Come on!

And cashless? There's a royal bank across the street! Get some cash!
20 October 2020 6:22
Cute little place with yummy scones and brunch options. Good place to go on the weekend to sit and chat, have a tea, eat a scone etc.:)
14 October 2020 6:17
Great quality at a great price.

Delicious scones and frozen ones you can buy to take home! Jams galore.

You can also get brunch items here like their eponymous "scone-witch" with soup/salad.

It's always a great experience and you won't miss by taking friends/family here.
09 October 2020 20:38
I used to patron here for the scones + service, though due to tight restrictions, the pilgrimage has me coming back strictly for the city's top scones. OK service, but far from its pre-pandemic standards. Vague distancing suggestions marked only by round tables and masking tape that look more like an "X" than a distinct arrow has much to be desired. Pro tip: a warmed up scone is enough to convince one to patron here for an eternity!
05 September 2020 9:10
The place: spacious and clean. Given the current pandemic, it was takeout only.

The goods: I bought six scones in a variety of flavours. Sadly, the only one that stood out for me was the cheddar cheese version. It was fresh and super tasty - I'd definitely order this one again! That said, the other flavours were bland and in some cases, I wasn't sure which flavour I was eating. The up side is that the scones were fresh.

Service: The cashier who took my order was friendly enough, but the person who prepared and served the order was not. No hello, no smile, nada. Just a sour expression on her face.

Price point: If I recall, it was about $15 for 6 scones.
29 May 2020 17:48
Love their scones; sweet or salty i don't care. I want them for lunch. Their sweet ones are delish to have on their own or even with jam or honey. Their savory ones are so good toasted with some avocado and some feta cheese. It makes a wonderful lunch, snack or even just something to make you happy. Best scones I've tried
28 April 2020 2:13
Very expensive breakfast. Service was nice but not outstanding. They gave me the wrong scone with my order.
14 April 2020 3:08
Nice place but icy outside of business and they were out of Devonshire Cream today.

Parking is difficult to find.
25 March 2020 4:40
Although I follow a meal plan free of grains and cereals, the staff was able to accommodate me. The service was friendly and welcoming. When an error in our order occurred, they quickly and cheerfully corrected it.
17 March 2020 13:19
"F" for not knowing your own store hours, being too lazy to care and directing me to Twitter for holiday store hours you never posted. Thanks Pat.
23 February 2020 11:39
I go here almost everyday and I HATE to say it but today was the make or break. I love the employees here but the salad I got that had frozen chunks of ice and wilted lettuce/cucumber and they still charged me $10. I just hope nobody else gets sick from this food because I did.
22 February 2020 15:54
My wife, sister and I had one of each flavor of savory scones and shared a pot of tea. Looking forward to having a brunch plate next time I'm in town.
23 January 2020 3:32
Came here for brunch with a friend and really enjoyed this location compared to the one on Elgin. More seating and easier parking, but food remains great at both locations.
04 January 2020 11:11
Love the SconeWitch on Beechwood in Ottawa. My father-in-law lives in the area and enjoys walking in for a scone and coffee or soup and sandwich.
16 December 2019 9:57
Best place in Ottawa to get fresh scones by far. With lots of variety of flavours of scones be it sweet or savoury. There is an assortment of jams to compliment the scones plus don't forget their clotted cream can't be beat. It's not just a breakfast place there is also a lunch menu and the coffee is delicious. I highly recommend this place.
12 December 2019 10:48
I love the scones from SconeWitch. During my clinical rotations I would always give staff members scones as a thank you. They were always appreciated after the morning rush.
08 November 2019 17:22
Walked into Scone Witch moments ago excited to try it for the first time. I’ve heard so many good things about the food. The woman at the counter says immediately “if you are going to order you have to be out of here at 5 because that’s when we close. ” I’m like. ”okay, what time is it? ” She says 4: 48. I place my order and a girl walks out of the kitchen. The girl at the counter kind of gives an exasperated “they’re ordering the Mushroom Ragú” with a ever so subtle eye roll. The cook says “okay you are placing a to go order? ” Just to make sure I was aware I had to immediately leave. I said yes I am. We are now walking to eat in our car. Not sure how the scones are yet but the Witches lived up to their name.
14 October 2019 5:32
First time here for their weekly Afternoon Tea on Tuesday Frim 15: 00 to 17: 00. Spaces are limited so you have to call them to confirm availability and book your seat.anytime during the week until 11: 00 on the date of the event IF there is a space still available.

It's a great way to have a little bit of everything for those of us who can't decide what to order cause we want to eat it all. Be warned that if you clear your plates, be ready for the food coma to follow.

There's butter everywhere, heavy cream clotted cream at Tea and then cheese, cheese cheese! This is definitely a full fat, full flavour feast!
02 September 2019 17:32
Recently dropped my rating from a 5 to 3. The company had lost some of its charm over the years. It’s the usual story with the growth of local shops. Portion sizes go down, prices go up and customer service flattens. It’s unfortunate for a shop that offers a delicious product.
17 August 2019 8:57
I had a great date with my mom here enjoying delicious scones with cream and jam. Everything we were hoping for in our scone.
The americano was delicious too, however next time I have to have the tea since it is a scone store.
Staff is very friendly too and the store is kept very clean and cute.
Prices are average price for a cafe in Ottawa, spent $15 for two coffees, two scones, and shared a cream and jam.
11 June 2019 20:46
Best oatmeal scones in Ottawa. Good coffee, pleasant surrounding, a nearby bookstore and an attentive staff. It works.
25 May 2019 15:03
I come to this location regularly with my partner. We both speak about how we could just get a scone and soup and be satisfied.and then laugh because we both know how much we love the sandwiches. Portions are the perfect size and you’ll leave being full and happy.
The soup is always delicious and I’ve yet to have a sandwich/scone that I didn’t like. The attention to detail in the recipes makes every one special. It makes every dish just elevated enough that you know you couldn’t make it at home, while still providing the comforts and nutritional value of a home cooked meal.
10/10 would recommend.
