The Stratford Hotel by Hoco Hotels Collection

If you want a sterile, cookie cutter hotel, this isn't the place for you. If staying in a historic, rustic, spotlessly clean and quaint hotel is to your liking, this place will fit the bill. Service was amazing, check in was quick and polite. Staff was very welcoming, and ensured we had everything we needed. We highly recommend staying here and walking to the nearby theatres, restaurants, and all that the area has to offer.

First, we were extremely happy that we were able to book a room within 2 weeks of our planned vacation in late September. We snagged one of their deluxe suites for a 2-night stay.

Located on the 2nd floor, the 2-room suite was well-appointed and comfortable. The bathroom linked the 2 rooms and a sink was found in each room. It made it easy for the 2 of us to get ready in the mornings.

Not having a full-time receptionist was not a problem because checking in was handled ahead of time by phone & clear instructions of accessing the building and our room were texted/emailed before we arrived. Any issues or questions were communicated via texting. It all went flawlessly.

In the future, we will definitely consider staying there again.

Horrible; noisy, smelly, weird room. No staff on hand, remote staff, never answered phone. Have cell records of unanswered calls. Assured quiet room: only a deaf person would find room quiet. Checked out after first day of three day stay, billed for the entire amount. My room was rented to 2 different guests, only sorry I was first, ècause I could have stayed somewhere else, instead. Can't understand how the hotel gets 5 stars, unless they write their own reviews. Bathroom smelled like a sewer. Parking spot I rented was occupied by a vehicle without a parking pass. Manager very cavalier, rude, unsuportive.

On August 2,2023, my friend and I booked the Non Smoking Premier Suite at the Stratford hotel by Hoco hotels, for the night of August 15 and 16th 2023. On the way down to Stratford, the front desk called us and we asked at that time if there were two beds and he said yes.

We were informed that we could either check in by text or at their sister property the Windsor hotel, which was a couple of blocks away. When we got there, someone had been recently smoking in the lobby. We checked with front desk again that there were two beds in the room and he assured us again that there were.

When we got to our room, there was one queen bed, and NO COUCH OR SECOND BED, and the SMELL OF STALE CIGARETTE SMOKE. I am allergic to cigarette smoke and my friend has terminal cancer. After ten minutes in the room, my throat was getting sore. Clearly, we could not stay in that room.

The room itself looks like a FORMER ROOMING HOUSE that had been given a fresh coat of paint and new furniture which is now looking worn. Our room had two awkward columns in it, one of which was in front of the small room that the toilet was in. The shower was in another room not much bigger than a single closet, and the sink was in the half of the room closest to the door. There are old linoleum square tiles in the room and cheap acoustic panels on the ceiling. They charge 25$ per day for parking in addition to the room price, which is far too high for what it is.

When we went back to the Windsor hotel, Dave offered us a room there. Since the lobby was being smoked in, we declined that room. We asked Dave for a refund, and he informed us that it was their policy not to give refunds, but he would talk to his manager. We booked a room at the Best Western for the two nights.

Despite another visit to the Windsor Hotel at a time that we were told that the manager would be in, and 4 texts and phone calls to the manager, we were unable to get her. She called once and texted me that my mailbox was full; I immediately cleared my mailbox and asked her to return the call but she did not.

On Aug. 18, the charge for the two nights at the Stratford hotel had been posted on my account. When I called Visa, the agent told me that HOCO HOTELS HAD TRIED TO PUT THROUGH A SECOND CHARGE OF $400.00, which Visa denied. We did not incur any other charges at the Stratford Hotel.

SO WE ARE NOW OUT 546$ FOR A ROOM THAT WE COULDN'T AND DIDN'T STAY IN AND THE HOTEL IS REFUSING TO GIVE US OUR MONEY BACK.

Update: I was finally able to contact Hoco Hotels, who manage the Stratford Hotel, and we have received an apology and a full refund.

If you want a modern bathroom and a firm mattress, this is not the place. It has quirky charm but it’s on a Main Street (they provide earplugs.) The AC unit gave a loud grinding noise. The toilet closet was behind the sofa in the “living room” alcove and there were 2 sinks at opposite ends of the room. It’s a very old building.
They charge a $200/night damage deposit. I’ve stayed in hundreds of hotels in half a dozen countries but I’ve never been required to put down a damage deposit.
I agree that the location is great for restaurants and shopping and the hotel is very clean, plus the young man keeping it clean was very nice and helpful. There is no front desk - check in is around the corner at another hotel and I when I called with a parking issue I got nothing but voicemail. Also parking is $20. I just want my shower, toilet and sink in one room - not two closets and two alcoves. And quiet. And a less mushy mattress.

I was so very pleased with my stay at the Stratford Hotel! The room was lovely, clean and well decorated, and the location perfect. I was also very happy with the service. I’ll definitely stay here again!

A quirky 2 star hotel. No actual people on site. Very clean with a comfortable bed and the PERFECT location for the Stratford theatres and all the downtown sites and restaurants. (The one star service rating is only because there are no employees onsite)

We were gifted a show in Stratford and a room overnight here. We enjoyed our stay very much. The staff was friendly and accommodating, the facilities were nice, and the location was close enough to walk to our show.

The hotel was nice, very clean, and the staff was great. Laverne was very friendly and extremely helpful. I was most impressed with the communication. We had a great time at the Stratford Hotel.

My husband and I came from out of town to see a Stratford show and stay 1 night at the Stratford hotel (room #8) on Sat June 3. First impression: the staff was nice. But the hotel was old and dated and the room was very cramped. There is no central a/c, just an old a/c unit at the window. It was satisfactory. The room was expensive and we were surprised we had to pay $20 ahead of check in for parking (most hotels include free parking). We were also informed that Internet Wi-Fi, and TV service were included. But we were disappointed to find out that Internet service was down the whole time, we could not get a Wi-Fi signal and the TV did not work either since it ran off the Internet. My husband was extremely upset because he wanted to watch the NHL hockey playoffs final game. The other disappointment was that the hotel closes and locks their doors at 9 pm and no one was available to assist us until the next morning. There is a security keypad at the front door to enter after hours. After the show, we had trouble with the keypad and had to enter the code a couple times before the door opened. Thank goodness we were not locked out. We checked out early the next day and was informed by Kayla at the front desk that someone would reach out to us regarding the inconvenience of having no Wi-Fi and TV. And some sort of compensation. It is almost 3 weeks later and we are STILL WAITING to hear from management. I don’t expect them to call. Since they already got their money from us and don’t care to provide good service.
I definitely would not recommend anyone to stay at this hotel. Unless you want to pay for an overpriced, cramped room, $20 for parking (we did not find out there was free parking close by until after we checked in and had already paid the $20, and there is a meter right in front of the hotel, free on weekends!) And no wifi or tv service. We will never stay there again. BEWARE!

This place delivered the main things I want in a hotel: clean, quiet and comfortable. The service was top notch. Overall the hotel has a fair amount of charm. It’s definitely a quirky place with creaky floors and odd layouts. But it’s a nice place to sleep and the price is hard to beat.

Based on the reviews and price, I was expecting more. The hospitality was not great. They forgot bedding on a pull out couch and an alarm clock went off in the middle of the night (which could have been prevented if staff checked before hand). The fireplace released a gas-like smell and we had to turn it off. We arrived a little early and they did not let us use a washroom. This felt more like a motel. I would try something else next time.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel due to its location, comfort & the friendless of the front desk employee. Would stay here again if we came back!

You stay here for the value for sure. I’ve stayed twice now and it takes some getting used to. If you want a standard cookie cutter hotel with someone who is always at the desk this isn’t it. The hotel is old, the floors creek and cars go past so its not always pin drop quiet. But, you are smack in the middle of town, rooms are clean, price is often the lowest in town. Desk isn’t staffed at all hours… and it can be frustrating if you need something but you can text staff. Its an experience that i compare to staying in a private European apartment. No elevator, a bit classic, a bit fend for yourself but I don’t need the extra frills as I visit Stratford regularly and know my drill.

Great location close to lots of free parking or u can pay to park at the hotel. I was happy to find a clean comfy bed and a lovely shower. The staff are nice and it was a really good price. It is a very old building with creaky floors and tons of character. Very clean throughout.

Quiet, quaint, great location, paid parking on site. All amenities great. Big nice windows overlooking streets (for our room) helpful staff. Chose this for location and look.

I had a wonderful night away at this hotel. The room was lovely and the staff were very friendly. It was located in walking distance to downtown. I will be back.
