This store is fantastic. There is a wide range of small animal foods and treats as well as a selection of birds, lizards, fish and small animals. The staff is knowledgeable and caring. My go-to for anything bird related.

Got two of my birds from here. The store owner, Janna, was very nice to answer all my questions as a new bird owner. She raised both my birds from when they were young and still needed to be handfed, so they both came to me very tame. She also supported me when I had questions afterwards about bird behavior troubleshooting and such.

I can tell she cares very much about all her animals even after sale. I can't recommend this store enough because having someone knowledgeable to help as a new owner is extremely valuable. She also cares not to sell products which are known to be harmful for our pets, such as happyhuts for birds. Thank you Janna and your team.

Janna and Alanna are absolutely wonderful humans! They are very knowledgeable, kind and patient. They have made a few house calls for grooming my parrot and they have been so great and patient with him. Both are very skilled! When I visit the store they are always happy to answer my questions and provide recommendations. Highly recommend!

Best place in Hamilton to get all your reptile, and exotic animal needs. I visited this place after having issues at another 'reptile/exotic pet store' and after talking to the owner Janna and purchasing the supplies I needed, she told me that if there is something I need and they don't have they would gladly order it in.this will definitely be my go to store from now on.

If I could give 1000 stars I would. I’d say the best “pet” store I have ever been too, but they aren’t a “pet” store. They are a temporary home for their animals till they find their forever home. They treat all the pets there like their own. You can tell they aren’t just in the business for business, they are there because they genuinely love animals. They are also extremely knowledgeable and friendly. They won’t sell things that aren’t good for your pets and give u honest answers. So if u are looking for a small pet, Bird or reptile make the trip to urban zoo. You won’t be disappointed ️

Got my Linny's beak and claw trimmed here for the first time. Great price and good job done. I think they care about the birds even more than the customer, which is the way it should be. Very knowledgeable and we will certainly be going back.

A small store with a big selection and friendly staff. Mammals, fish, reptiles, amphibians, and birds can all be found here. The only con is that a small space makes loud birds louder, so it can get a bit noisy.

Very clean store and very friendly/knowledgeable staff. You can tell they take pride in their work and always want to make sure their animals are going to a proper home. Will definitely be doing my pet shopping here for the foreseeable future.

Came here for the first time looking to get a new pet. The owner right away answered any questions I had and soaked me up with as much information as possible. Has been in the industry for years. It’s nice for a change to go somewhere where somebody cares about the animals.and it shows.not just about selling them and getting your money.

I purchased some food products, specifically senior dog food, from The Urban Zoo and found the staff and owner to be very knowledgable. The place is very clean. Prices are excellent and they really know their stuff. Highly recommended!

Love this place the new owner is amazing. We brought our baby hedgehog in and learned so much about new tricks and techniques for nail trimming. She helped ease my anxiety with the stigmas of being a first time hedgehog owner whoa still learning as I go. She educated me on so much that I didn't know as well. Both mom and daughter of the store greeted us and had so much compassion in their animals you can see and feel it when you walk in the door. O highly reccomendknf them to others. Also don't forget to say hello to Jose and lady the two beautiful birds.

They have since really cool birds. The birds, like the staff, are friendly and greet when you enter.

I think the one bird was flirting with me.

Will be back to see if the bird and I have a genuine connection.

Visited today to get some pellets for my Parrot. The owner was their and was very friendly. They had last a birds, and she even gave me a tip about soaking pellets in mango juice for my caique. Very happy with the friendliness and customer service.

Janna is amazingly helpful and knowledgeable. We purchased Johnny and had a wonderful experience. I will be returning to the Urban Zoo for all my pet needs. Thank you all again!

I go there for crickets all the time, everyone that works there is super nice and helpful, it’s a great store full of love I highly recommend shopping here.

If I could give 0 stars I would! I have been hounding this place about proper care on Axolotls but they just don’t care enough to change! The one they have now is on gravel, the fin is shrinking and the gills are almost nonexistent! I’m willing to bet it’ll start blinking soon and morph into a land salamander. If you can’t keep your animals clean don’t sell them! How health department or Hamilton animal services haven’t closed this disgusting shop is beyond me!

The owner should be ashamed of themselves, gross!

Amazing selection!

The gentleman that runs the store is very well educated and willing to answer and elaborate on any questions you have. Great prices and even better animals. Made a 2 hour drive and was greeted by José the big red parrot? Amazing experience and will be back for sure to buy a new pet!

Drove in to town to discover they only had one bird available. Our fault for not checking but they had zero information on the bird. Was he older or young? No idea. Most products were second hand and dirty.

Mr. Cresty, our crested gecko is thriving.

We got him from Chris at the Urban zoo back in April. Chris has many fine small pets in his store. Everything from beautiful baby budgies to adorable hamsters to bearded dragon babies. (The dragon babies are absolutely adorable and if we had space.)

Terrific pet store. Lots of stock and great advice.

I visited to find a budgie and immediately the first thing that hit me was the awful smell of the location and the filth. The place looked like it it hadn’t been cleaned in quite some time, cobwebs all over products and many of the animals were left without things such as toys or hides. The man there wasn’t rude to us like other comments have mentioned, but I am very disappointed in the state of the place.

I have never been so disgusted with the state of a pet store. I have been in many caring for a lizard myself. The smell of rot left me feeling sick to my stomach after leaving. The cleanliness of all the cages were disgusting. The smell of the store alone gives off the first hint of neglect the the animals need for cleanliness and attention. Murky and half full water bowls. Fecal matter everywhere in all the cages. I am so dissapointed. Do not support this.

Very friendly service but $9 for a medium feeder rat, that's ridiculous. I'll go back downtown and get them for $5 from now on.

The very large rabbit at the store was stuck in a very small pen with other cages placed on tables inside the pen which offered very little space for a rabbit of its size to have any room at all to move in it. The rabbit also looked like it doesn't get any human interaction as it looked very frightened. Please take better care of it.

I waited for my turn, along with my 4 year old daughter that dreams in getting her first pet. The man basically told me" what do you want? The man behind you is a buying customer because I know him. So please keave as he is a better Customer than you are. " - I have never felt so humiliated and insulted in my life!

Bought my Quaker over a year ago no arm band and no knowledge of the breeder I posted on yelp and I am very disappointed. I LOVE MY BIRD BUT THE VET that I have dealt with fr yrs Dr Rick Axelson of the Links Animal clinic who looked after my beloved orange winged amazon for 43 yrs in Toronto says questionable things. RED Flags.

I came in to see if they had rats for sale. They had feeder rats, which I was happy to buy. The rats were NOT taken care of! Each tank had at least one to two dead ones that the rest were eating. It was DISGRACEFUL AND INHUMAN! No matter what the animal is in the store for, THEY NEED TO BE TAKEN CARE OF! I bought one of the “healthier” rats because I had to rescue one of them!

My Daughter and I went to The Urban Zoo to buy a rat. The owner was very helpful and friendly. We will definitely be back.

CAUTION! Chris White refuses to provide breeder information about a bird we had purchased at The Urban Zoo earlier this year. We had reason to believe there were some ethical issues with this store and began looking into it. Now we have another reason to be even more suspicious. Breeder information is not confidential. Anytime someone refuses to disclose reasonably requested information, (which is not only generally not confidential, but can also be verified) it raises suspicion. I have an assumption at this point and will check if I'm right. I will continue looking into it and update my review once I have more information.

Awesome selection animal care products some small animals (rodents birds fish reptiles.) Exactly what I expect going into a small pet store. Was really excited to see the selection of conures. Staff that was there was extremely Friendly and helpful would give more than 5 stars of I could amazing experience!

Needed a bird cage. They were VERY helpful. Told us what we should buy and, more importantly, what we shouldn't but.

Bought a Canary, very pleased with the bird. Knowing what I wanted was a big bonus. This business does not take/honor your status card.

To the person who is bashing this pet store for the way they sell rats, your review is based on opinion, not fact. I have recently taken home a rat from this store and have nothing but good things to say about my rat. He is the absolute sweetest pet I’ve ever had.

To say these rats are not pet worthy is simply an assumption, and to add to that: even rats that come from supposed “breeders” are liable to being skittish and having poor temperaments. Any rat that is well socialized and living in proper conditions can be a great pet, and THAT is a fact.

The owner was nice BUT the frozen feeders for snakes smell like sewage. Its terrible. Never experienced such an awful smell from feeders before. They also sold a couple that came in a live pet bunny as snake food. Tried to hush the people up and said wait untill they leave. Just seems like a bit of a mill for all animals. Really upsetting. And they must know its wrong if they wanted to keep it quiet and wait for us to leave.

Just read the reviews. I agree the store smells and if your wondering why the animals are treated poorly, including the one review about the rabbit in a glass tiny enclosure, its because he has no problem selling them as snake food. Also, dont think he has a right to judge anyone or give any advice on how to care for a pet.

Id wonder if the breeder he got the bunnies from gave him permission to sell them as feeders. Id think not since it was all hush hush.

Want to support a local animal mill? Then this is the store for you. Pathetic. Clean your pets and protect and care for them. Whats wrong with you.

It's one of the small pet stores. I have been going here for 20 years now for pet products, and some animals here, and there. They take care of there animals well. I never found this place dirty, or have a smell. Great staff too. Everyone is very helpful, and very friendly.

Awesome little exotic pet store that caters to everything other than dogs and cats. Really cute birds, lizards, even crickets to feed them. Rabbits. Even.
