The Voyageur's Lodge and Cookhouse

Beautiful location across from beach. Amazing fritters. Staff are friendly. Room was adequate for our one night en route to Thunder Bay. Will stay again!

My wife and are were winging it, no reservation and it was getting late for having no reservation. We pulled into this lodge and were fortunate enough to get the last room. And we were very glad we did. Room was delightfully furnished, bed was comfortable, big window looking right out onto Superior. We took a long walk on the beach that evening, great way to unwind from too much time in the car. In the morning they give you coffee and apple fritters. The fritters were out of this world. It was a bit above our budget but we certainly would pay it again as it was well worth it! Don't hesitate to stay here.

On our way from Windsor to Fort Frances, we pulled in to air up tires. I was immediately greated by a gentleman with a big smile on his face. He graciously helped with filling the air on our tires.

The Apple Fritters are world famous for a reason. If you can get them warm, you will never be satisfied by another fritter for the rest of your life. They are delicious and modestly prices. The people are friendly and very nice. I can't wait to come back and perhaps stay at the lodge.

Great people and a great experience. We were coming through on our first night driving across the country, and the hosts kept the lodge open later for us. Clean, cozy rooms, in a great location. Would definitely recommend a stay here!

Amazing, friendly service! Definitely recommend this stop to anyone passing through, or staying at Pancake Bay and Batchewana area. We stopped on our way in for some provisions and famous fritters. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. While camping, we had our 3 yr old come down with a fever in the evening. I arrived here feeling pretty hopeless at 7: 15 - they closed at 7. The staff saw me at the door and came to see what I needed. I explained our predicament, and she went and got her keys to check inside the general store building for Tylenol or advil for our little one. She found some, despite the shortage everywhere! They definitely made our trip more pleasant and bearable for our little guy. And the fritters were really as amazing as everyone says!

Beautiful location overlooking a bay on Lake Superior. Killer Apple fritters! World renowned! You got to get there early though because they do sell out. Stunning views. Great pitstop or a place to stay in for a couple days. We will be staying there in a couple of weeks. Typical northern Ontario decor. But beautiful, beautiful views of the lake!

The apple fritters were delicious, and they were kind enough to let me park my camper by the motel and plug into power for the day so I could work remotely.

Reception/check in could use some improvement. Limited dining options, and they weren’t open to modifications. Accommodations were clean. Space to walk around and stretch. Great beach area across the road.

The fritters were great. Even the next day they were still fresh feeling and tasting. But, I was buying firewood, and the attendant assured me it was dry. My photo is of that wood.

Full service gas was ON POINT! A front window clean and friendly conversation was appreciated!

While I don’t know if the apple fritter is famous, it is pretty good. Served dense and warm, it is lightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Mine was about 3x15x10 cm. One was enough for two people.

My family looked forward to stopping at the Voyageur to eat every summer. It was one of our favorite restaurants. Unfortunately they have now converted the restaurant to a gift shop and have a very limited takeout menu. The quality of the food has declined considerably and we will plan to eat elsewhere from now on. So sad! Staff is still friendly and helpful though.

What a wonderful place with a great staff. We were almost late before closing but they checked in on us. My Bro and Sis Cathy planned this great trip and we ordered dinner with 9 minutes to spare. Great food and the rooms are beautifully “Up North” decorated which makes me feel like at home. We stopped in after an 800km motorcycle ride and everyone was so accommodating. To the best of my ability, I recommend these lodgings. And “Oh The Fritters”

Amazing, huge apple fritters made on-site! Super friendly staff. Small but well stocked campers grocery store. Make sure you also visit River Rocks Gifts for a great selection of souvenirs and iconic Hwy 17 logo apparel and gifts.

It’s a decent motel. Beach is across the street. The Apple fritter is the noteworthy thing here. The motel rooms are cute. Beds were too soft to sleep together. Staff was pleasant but not warm.

Everything about this place was special, from the amazing view to the accommodating, friendly staff and wonderful food menu. We loved our stay, and will definitely return.

One of those great family-owned roadside finds that makes road trips worthwhile. Fantastic staff, superbly clean facilities, and the apple fritters.oh, my goodness the apple fritters. We arrived at 8am on a Sunday and the fritters were still warm: best one I've ever had, and I consider myself informed on all things apple fritter! Heaven. (Oh, and I'd give a bonus star if I could for being open that early on a Sunday!)

The Voyageur is my favorite stop on my way in to and out of Sault Ste. Marie. The apple fritters are to die for, and the service is always welcoming and friendly!

The rooms are great, but some of the staff aren't very good, tried to order food the girls just stood there looking out the window till another girl took my order. The were cook (pre cook earlier then microwave when you order them) bring your own food if you stay here. Theses were the only down fall, the location is great

I had doubts about these being “world famous” apple fritters. Having now eaten one, I will make it my mission to tell the world of this place. MUST stop for a fritter. It is a crime to drive past without experiencing this taste.

I have been coming here for several years and always enjoy my stay.

The rooms are always clean and well equipped with everything we need to enjoy the North shore of Superior. The beach across the street is very peaceful and it’s a great jumping off point to some spectacular spots in Lake Superior Provincial Park.

The gift shop has some really unique items that your family will love and their apple fritters are the best.

Stopped here for some fritters on our drive home and they were amazing. Delicious and HUGE, a must-stop along the highway. We met the owner Gale and she was super friendly!

Very polite and helpful staff. Wide variety also their meats from RJ, s Supermarket are excellent. Best deal around area or drive to the Soo. Let me think, 2 hour return time- fast minimum? "No" lol. Camping is great in area.

APPLE FRICKIN FRITTERS!
I've driven by this place a few times on my travels and I finally stayed a night with my wife and two boys. We throughly enjoyed our stay.
Here's why you need to stay:
- very friendly staff. Smiles and hellos from everyone.
- rooms are very clean. Not like a Pineforest air freshener tossed in the vent, but well maintained rooms.
- the rooms are nicely decorated.
- my fellow woodworkers will appreciate the Birdseye maple canoes attached to the room keys and Pine log head headboards. My room also had with a turned Tiger Maple lamp with a Birdseye Maple base.
- beautiful view of the lake and there's beach access. Also your allowed to take the chairs outside the rooms to the beach.
- Good room price for value of stay.
- with your stay you get FREE APPLE FRICKIN FRITTERS for all in your party!
- the fritters are massive, not over sugared like some places drown them, very tasty, I'm still eating mine right now.
- sweet gift shop. Lots beautiful things to choose from!
- the food is home cooked and delicious, they have a variety of dishes to choose from and they rotate through the day.
- apple fritters were awesome.

Not a dine in place anymore which makes me sad. We have always loved and bragged about the food here and a beautiful day spent to drive there for the view and a swim and best fish dinner. Though the ready to go food is good too. Lovely staff.

Nice scenic drive all the way to Batchewana Bay and the Voyageur. The restaurant staff were excellent and friendly. We went for the famous apple fritters which didn't disappoint. Have eaten at the restaurant in the past and food was very good. Definitely recommend and will definitely return.

Went here for dinner and got the most delicious Apple fritters! Would go back just for those delicious desserts. The cookhouse had friendly staff that would even offer to bring your food directly to your car when it’s ready. Right across the street is a beach that you can spend your day. Super convenient!

Seriously the best fritters I’ve ever had. They were still warm when we got them, so full of apple chunks and honestly just so comforting. Perfect crispy exterior and soft on the inside. 10/10 always

Best apple fritters I've ever had.ever! I've never eaten at the cookhouse, but I've heard great things, so I will definitely make sure I'm hungry next time I'm in the area. In the meantime, I'll keep dreaming about their apple fritters:)

Wonderful location, right on Batchawana Bay, forest trails leading east, west and north right out back of motel. Friendliest staff you could ever meet, especially Frank and Gail the owners. They made our stay enjoyable despite COVID-19, going the extra mile to provide us with boxed breakfast and dinner meals in our rooms even when we had missed preordering them because of trail delays. Great spot to ATV, couldn't be better!

Frank and the team are very friendly and always happy to help. Rooms are comfortable and clean and the store has most everything you would need. If you are looking for a place to stay I'd highly recommend stopping here. I will be visiting again for sure. Don't forget the apple fritters!

Even if you're just passing through, stop at the general store for an apple fritter that's absolutely incredible - massive, crispy, greasy, the perfect driving snack.

Service was great. The food suck real bad. Stop there before it was great. Mybe change of owner ship? Making sure I tell everyone. Will stop there again.
