We've had some terrible car rental experiences in the past so were a bit worried to go for Thrifty after reading some of the reviews however I was pleasantly surprised by their service. We've picked up a car about half hour early with no problem, they said the car we have booked wasn't available so they've upgraded us to premium package at no extra cost! The pick up went very smoothly and quickly at the counter. We were struggling to find the drop off desk and kept taking the wrong turns as there's a lot of massive, spaghetti roads around the airport so we were worried we'd be charged extra for the fuel as we have filled up the tank on the way to the airport but then drove for extra 15min due to getting lost however they haven't taken any additional fees. I'd give 5 starts as we got a great car with no issues, however when we dropped the car off they found a dent at the front of the car which wasn't marked in the paperwork, luckily we have taken a video when we picked the car up and you could see the dent on it so they just let it go, it makes you wonder whether they're trying to pin it on someone and charge extra. If we didn't take the video then it would have been a completely different experience so my advice is to just be smart and make sure you check the car when you pick it up and get all the evidence just to cover yourself.

After 3 months, I got 2 unknown charges from Thrifty on my credit card and no one is even answering me about this.

I have often booked vehicles in the USA. There were never any problems. Often the vehicles don't quite match what you reserved, but that's okay.

Thrifty service:
Under all guns. Unfriendly staff at the counter. Doesn't read the English language vouchers/reservations because they don't care. Sells you a service that you don't actually need. You want to show her the insurance documents and she is not interested.impudence.

Vehicle condition:
Dirty, scratched, no handover report, windshield wiper blades inefficient, the steering wheel cracked to the right and left when fully turned (maintenance? !), unpleasant vehicle smell inside.

Advantage:
I was able to rent the vehicle in the USA and return it in Canada. That was the only reason I used Thrifty. Otherwise I would undoubtedly have chosen another provider.

NON-EXISTENT ASSISTANCE!

Bad rental experience, we had a problem with the car while we were 400km from Toronto, after wasting an entire morning on the phone with an operator we were given no assistance and no solution, other than the absurd one of reporting the 'car to the starting point (4 hours of driving to go and 4 hours to come back, petrol at our expense! We would have lost an entire day of vacation. Incredible!).
They have no affiliated mechanic to assess the problem, no replacement cars available in all other Thrifty centers. We went in person to the nearest office but they didn't want to help us, they didn't want to check the car or provide us with another vehicle.
We had to continue the journey with a car that could have left us stranded at any moment.
We exposed the problem when returning the car and sent an email to ask for a refund for the time lost and the poor quality of the service, but they refused to refund us, it was just a further waste of time (and anger!)

I came here to report my positive experience with Thrifty, as I almost gave up on my reservation due to the many negative reviews.

I know that those who have had negative experiences come in more often to evaluate and complain than those who have had positive ones (who often don't make a report).

I booked my car through Rental Cars, at a very good price (half the price of the competition), and all values ​​were honored.

I picked up the car on a Thursday, at 8: 30 pm, and the ticket window was empty. Service was quick and courteous.

They offered extra insurance, but they didn't insist when I refused. I paid the deposit and, when I returned the car, it was refunded in about a week.

The car was in good condition (it was a Dodge Charger, Premium category), with a good wash.

The car served us very well, without presenting any problems.

So far, no undue charges have been made. I filmed the car when it was picked up and returned. The car was checked when leaving the airport and the guy checking the car saw damage that I hadn't seen, and wrote everything down.

The only caveat is that, when using the card for the guarantee, it was only possible with the magnetic strip (it couldn't be used by chip or contactless), and the card I intended to use was not accepted, but there was another one, which was normally accepted.

So, I 100% recommend the company, I had no inconvenience whatsoever with collecting the car, using it, or returning it.

But I was quite worried about the previous comments, so much so that I even booked and picked it up a day earlier than I actually needed, so that if there was a problem and I couldn't get the car, I would still have a day to rent another one. But everything was very peaceful.

NEVER AGAIN! I booked an SUV with them. When i arrived they didn’t have the car. They didn’t even arrange any other options. The worst part was that they were not even apologetic or showing any empathy when I had 3 kids traveling with me.

First, the staff were kind, but the situation was a mess. Waited more than an hour for a car. They had no cars even though people had reservations. Next, although we prepaid, we still had to pay taxes and fees at the time of getting the cat. An additional $50 above the fee quoted at the time of rental. A real bait and switch making the rental look like a good deal, but not in fact a good deal.

Worst customer service ever, after two months later I keep getting charged on my credit card when I try to call the location or even the customer service number so find out about the charges they will either not answer or answer the phone and just hang up. How am I supposed to get answers when they don’t even want to talk about it, clearly they just want to steal your money. Would not recommend thrifty car rental Toronto to anyone because clearly their customer service is horrible and it’s just a scam.

Rented more than 10/13 times with Thrifty over the last 2 years. I mostly rent from the airport location. They've always had cars available, even if it isn't the one that you ask for. Their cars are good and clean with no issues. They offer cheaper rates than their competitors.
I've rented during the holiday seasons. Cars are hard to choose during those times, I'd recommend to call them in advance and confirm with them to save you a car and provide your booking info as reference and for confirmation.

Worst experience ever, they took the payment on the counter and then advised me no car available. Then offered me a pick up truck or a Tesla, waiting here for a premium car for 2.5 hrs at the airport.
Never book here again as refund takes up to 7 days as well and I am stuck as can’t book with someone else either now

My daughter left her wallet in the rental. A couple of hours later told no one miraculously found it. Told car was already rented out and nothing can be done.

Our flight arrived at 11: 06 and we were at the counter by 12 pm to pick up our car. We clearly mentioned we will pick up the car at 12: 30 when we booked. Toronto is a bigger airport and we need time to pick up luggage and get out of the airport. However, they say as per Air Canada flight landed at 10 am so they gave the car to someone else because we did not show up. We need to wait for more than an hour
1. How can we show up while still in the aircraft and flying?
2. How will Air Canada say flight has landed when flight is still flying?

There were 2 staff at the counter and both were answering irresponsibly when we were calm while talking to them. Their tone was rude and they were arrogant.

They lack customer service skills. They are not fit for this job. Thrifty is going to lose customers if these staff continue working there. I will never use Thrifty again and make sure I tell my family and friends to never use it.

The car door handle came off and I had to get the car switched out and I was informed I would get a discount. However, three months later, I got a bill for $1k.

A fuir hertz thrifty dollar aller à la concurrence j'ai réservé ma voiture en France payé en France arrivé là-bas le personnel très désagréable car je ne parle pas beaucoup anglais ils m'ont re-facturer la voiture je récupère la voiture le lendemain du bruit en roulant les roues n'étaient pas serré impossible d'avoir l'assistance j'ai fait presque 100 kilomètres comme ça pour retourner à l'agence ils m'ont remplacé la voiture et on essaie de me re-facturer la nouvelle voiture et la je m'aperçois qu'il mon facture sur ma carte 285$ pour le plein. A fuir se sont des voleurs arnaqueurs tout se qu'on veut il ne mérite même pas une étoile.

Over priced rentals, extremely confusing pickup directions, trunk had latch problem from day 1, refused to let me return to different location. Definitely avoid.

Is there an option for 0 stars? Worst experience ever! I booked a car for 12: 30 pm online and got a reseveration confirmation email with a reference number. I went to their counter at 12: 00 pm and i was told my car was given to someone else although i was there well ahead of time. Whats the point of reserving in advance when the car would be given to someone else even though we arrive there well ahead of time? Two agents at the counter were useless and just kept repeating it is first come first serve even if we arrive ahead of the requested time. Forget customer service training, they first need some common sense training.

Walked to National and everything was so easy, excellent service. Thrifty get some trained, customer friendly agents at your counters. Looks at your reviews, time to do something!

Me la han liado parda. Son unos incompetentes, avisamos para retrasar la entrega por telefono y le han dado el coche a otros.
They have messed me up. They are incompetent, we warned to delay the delivery by phone and they have given the car to others. And then, we had to wait two hours to be given another car which was worse than the car we had payed for. When you call they don't even identify themselves so that you can't complain in a future. They get profit from foreigners that they know for sure that won't report it.

All the reviews about fee are right!

They keep charging me a lot of unknown fee without notifying me/sending me any receipts (my rental cost was about CAD500 but those additional charges amounted to CAD200 already).

I returned my car on late June but my credit card is still getting charged on late August. Their contact phone number are not contactable nor there is any reachable email contact on their website. I can hardly reach out to any person to explain what are those hidden charges.

We pre-booked a full sized sedan car 2days before arriving Toronto. We requested for a Ford Fusion as per stated on their website however upon arriving, Thrifty staff did not have the car available and made us wait for a Toyota Camry for 45mins. Later on I think the staff felt bad for us and let choose a higher category cars which were available at site because the Camry was not ready and available. However we chose Chevrolet Malibu which was ready to drive off and the staff gave us free ½tank of fuel as complimentary. The car was brand new, clean and a good car to drive. Love the car and returning the car was really fast. Thank you Thrifty and surely we'll use you guys again in Toronto.

Would give no stars if I could!

Booked a premium car in advance and was given a regular car for the price of a premium car. I asked if I could get a refund and was immediately shut down by the employee that was supposed to be helping us. Super unprofessional and was given the worst service ever!

I was having a conversation to my friend about the money we lost because we’re never getting a refund and one of the lady that was helping us interrupted my friend and I’s conversation and said “It’s okay, you win some you lose some” and “I’ve lost thousands of dollars before and I just accepted it, you’re gonna be fine! Everything happens for a reason”. Saying that I should just accept the unfortunate situation we were experiencing at that moment. She was laughing about it too. LIKE EXCUSE ME? , this is not something you want to hear especially when you’re upset and they are not offering any help.

We end up having to settle for a regular car and have to pay extra dollars for who knows what!

Also addition to this, they only told us the number of stall the car was parked at, but that was it and no directions was given, so my friend and I went back in since we were having a hard time finding it and when we ask again, the lady just smirked at us and said “that side” and no one offered to direct us. So my friend and I (again) was walking around the big parkade trying to locate the car for so long! Until two other gentleman from different company helped us instead.

What a scam! Never renting from this place ever again!
