I had to go for a visit as I had heard amazing things in tiktok. I was not disappointed AT ALL! The staff were so friendly and the kitties just add to the experience. Would highly recommend to anyone that wants to have a pick me up

We recently visited. We appreciated the hygiene practice of shoes off and hands washed. We came late in the day and watched them begin steam cleaning everything before we left. Proof they do all they can to prevent contaminants and contagions.
I read some of the negative reviews and I chalk some up to people not familiar with adoption and the difficulties faced when providing this type of service for the sake of the animals. They are sentient beings and aren’t just placed on a whim.
I saw someone felt it was racially motivated when they picked up a cat and were told not to, they tell everyone before you walk through the door, Do NOT pick them up. They watch to ensure we don’t accidentally let a cat out of the cage so there isn’t a cat fight. Warn us which cats don’t like being touched. It’s all about the cats well being! As it should be. I was impressed they kept such a close eye on us to ensure the cats were safe. Nothing to do with us humans. It’s about cat safety.
I really enjoyed our time there and was impressed with their adoption process and how they vet applicants and ensure the best interest of the cats are followed. Wish I could have taken the two shy brothers home but sadly my dog wouldn’t be a suitable housemate for them.

If you would like to play with cats and not have the responsibility of taking care of them this is the place for you. If you want to adopt a cat good luck. Even if they aren't bonded they won't let you adopt a single cat if you do not already have one at home and are employed. Go to the humane society (its cheaper anyway) and they have just as many cats and kittens to choose from. Bringing cats from other countries to adopt when there are a ton of cats already in this area that need homes is ridiculous.

Not sure how to reply to your comment so I will edit my original post to respond. It was not mention during the preapplication process as you stated that kittens could not be adopted alone. One of your coworkers/employees told him that there was no reason he couldn't be adopted alone and that is when he filled out the application. So hopefully after this fiasco you are all on the same page now and someone else doesn't get disappointed.
As far as you telling me your stats good for you. I am glad you are helping these cats but from the reviews I read on here its not the first time some has been mislead.

I agree with you about why you denied him after the application process. I agree it is better to get 2 kittens or have multiples as I am an experienced pet owner myself. Its the lack of transparency and the lies I am upset about.

Also I never said he found a suitable cat. I merely suggested people look elsewhere as there are more options available who may be more likely to be honest.

The food is not very varied, sandwiches, cookies, juices. Great atmosphere. Be sure to come with socks, as you need to take off your shoes before entering. The only downside is the cold tiled floor. We'll be back here again and again, for sure!

What a fantastic place! The Cafe is so nice and clean. The staff are welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable! What a great place to go and spend time with cats/kittens and find your match. I definitely recommend you go!

Most openly and unapologetically racist place that I have ever had the misfortune to be in - in all of my time in Ontario, Canada. From the moment my friend and I (both people of colour) stepped in - the vibe of the place was screaming negativity, but as a long-time immigrant, I always try to give a fair shot to all businesses and people alike until they give me a reason not to. This place was a mistake.

From the unwanted stares to the unwelcoming responses, they made our experience so discriminative that even with all the cats in the cafe, the most time we could manage inside was less than 10 mins.

We were repeatedly asked to wash our hands - which we gladly did. But from that moment on, 2 staff members were constantly watching us and following us with the intention to reprimand any and all actions we took. That included getting close to a cat, touching a cage, touching a cat, picking up a cat - and pretty much anything else one would do inside such a place.

Since there was nothing we could possibly do, we chose to just leave. While doing so - we saw multiple people doing all of the things we were reprimanded for - while the same 2 staff members looked on and had absolutely no qualms with any of it.

It was clear to us that for this place the only problem was us, 2 immigrants of colour belonging to a minority. This place left a scar on us ugly enough that we would never visit this town (Port Hope) again - even though the town itself was lovely and we had a great time except for this cafe.

Note to staff: If you have the audacity to mistreat people of colour openly, the least you can do is be subtle about it - or go old school and post a sign outside that this place only caters to a particular community of people and nobody else. I sincerely wish and hope that wisdom reaches your mind and peace reaches your heart one day. Treat all people equally - as you would like to be treated yourself.

We were so excited about finally getting to visit the cat cafe. After getting there we were a bit disappointed. We found a majority of the staff to be quite rude. And we were told different rules by 2or 3 different staff members. We thought we would be able to pickup and cuddle the cats. But this was not allowed. Only 3 cats roamed free and the others we could just pet them inside their cages. Also it was mandatory to wash your hands after petting each cat. Considering there were over 10 cats that seemed excessive. And there only one bathroom and 15 people that had to share it. We love cats and would look forward to visiting again if they implemented some changes.

This place is fantastic. Price was fair and staff were friendly. The coffee is actually pretty good which I honestly wasn't expecting. There was one cat that was less than friendly and that's ok. We gave him his space and I guess he used to be feral and mean and I'm impressed with how well he's adjusted under the circumstances. That shows the staff actually cares about the cats and were honest. Have a coffee, respect the animals, have a good time.

ADOPTER BEWARE: ask for up-to-date vet checks before you adopt. We adopted a cat, took him to the vet about 2 weeks later and were told he had a major ear infection that clearly had been there longer than 2 weeks. It took the vet 20 minutes to clear out his ears. We then found out the cat is deaf - not a huge deal, but this is information we should have been told. We also found the shelter staff to be quite rude, telling you which cats are for you or not for you.not a good vibe. Will not be returning, but I'm sure they don't mind that!

The staff is always kind and you can tell they really care about the cats ️ I also love all the cool stuff they sell out front. It's a great place to visit!

You beans Cafe is a wonderful agency. One of my fur babies Archie comes from there. Many of the kitties have been through trauma or neglect and it is wonderful to know there is an agency that screens there applicants to make sure these kitties has a second chance to find a safe and forever hope with lots of love. I have adopted two beautiful cats from Toe Beans and what a great experience. To be able to sit in a large space and interact with all the cats (on their terms of course) is wonderful and the staff are awesome. It is a 20 year commitment with a cat and I am glad that Toe Beans understands that to find the perfect fit and isn’t just out to make a profit.

Amazing place, great staff who all do their best to rehome the cats with the best possible families. My beat friend passed away in 2021 and Toe Beans reholmed her 2 bonded cats who are living an amazing life. Thank you Toe Beans for everything you do.

I've been fortunate to visit Toe Beans Cat Cafe on a number of occasions before Covid hit. I've always enjoyed the coffee, food, and staff friendliness. Best of all, of course - as it should be - the interactions with the cats. They are what it is all about - these lovely cats and kittens trying to live their best lives, while wishing for their forever humans to come along and wisk them away to a safe, appropriate, and loving home.

I've read through some of the negative reviews on here (thankfully there are not many) and am saddened by the entitled attitude of some people. WE are entering the CATS temporary home. They are NOT there to entertain you, nor are the staff there to babysit and control your wild kids. The staff is there for THE CATS, to care for them and PROTECT them from any potential harm or stress. Parents should understand that a little education about respecting animals and understanding boundaries goes a long way. And maybe get off your phone and interact with the cats WITH your kids and use it as a teachable experience.

Don't bother cats that are sleeping or otherwise not interested in being bothered. It is a rule there - but really it is common sense. Would you like a stranger coming into your bedroom and shoving a toy in your face? If you want your kids to yell, run around, and generally disrespect the establishment - take them to the park or to McDonalds Play Place. The world needs more places like Toe Beans in my opinion.

Ok, rant over. If you love cats, a nice snack, and are understanding of the cafe's rules (and not an entitled jerk), it is a great place to visit and potentially meet a new furry family member.:)

I love this place. No better way to get rid of stress by sitting amidst a number of cats. Their coffee and menu items are always fresh and tasty. 1000 plus kitties adopted out for the win. The Toebeans crew goes above and beyond to ensure the kitties make their way into the best possible home and that all kitties waiting for their furever homes get the best possible care. I am grateful that they allowed me to adopt from them.

This place holds a special place in my heart any time I’ve walked in I’ve felt like a friend.the owner is passionate and really cares about all of the cats in their care, as they should! I admire their adoption process since it ensures that the animals go to the perfect home for them. There is a lot of consideration that goes into choosing an adopting family, and I love that they put that thought into the homes they choose for their adoptees!

Such an incredible place! I adopted two kitties from the cafe and both of them are perfect fits for my family.

The atmosphere is supportive, kind, and educational. I have had nothing but positive experiences with both visits and adoptions.

We have stopped in several times, and have a wonderful visit each and every time. We have 3 cats and aren't looking for another at this time, but love to support such a great cause, and of course buy great treats for us humans and our felines friends! We once did Yoga here too. SO MUCH FUN! More cat loving than yoga though!

My girlfriend and I have visited a number of times from Toronto and we love it. We get a drink, a bunch of snacks, souveniers, and most importanly spend some time with all the beautiful cats that are so well taken care of there.

I love that the cats living there have such a fun place to play and that the cafe also acts as an adoption centre. We have a couple of adopted cats ourselves and we would love to see every cat get a nice caring home which Toe Beans Cat Cafe makes sure of.

They do so many fun raffles and auctions in support of the rescue kitties. I love seeing them all find new homes on the Facebook page. My aunt is super happy with the senior kitty we found for her here.

Amazing place to find your forever cat, went and adopted a 3 month old kitty named suzie to keep our 1 year old cat Charlie company. It was like a dream come true to walk inside and surround myself with wonderful cats and kittens plus their application to adopt was so easy and quick! I heard back the next day and we had our amazing kitten suzie in no time. I’m truly so thankful for everything toe beans cafe is doing for these cats and couldn’t imagine adopting anywhere else! If you’re looking to adopt then look no further, this is the place to go️

This would be one of my happy places if I didn't live so far away. I love the concept of being able to interact with the cats. The negative reviews are over the top and written by people who probably shouldn't have a pet (or kids.) We adopted Tobin (Fiddle) last August and if (when) we decide to adopt again, the Cafe will be the place we go. Go to the Cafe, meet the staff and the fur babies for yourself. And make sure you get the dill pickle grilled cheese.it's delish!

Adopted 2 of the sweetest barn cat rescues from Toe Beans Cat Cafe last summer. When I filled out the adoption paperwork for my family to adopt I was very nervous until we heard we were accepted. I value the steps they take in making sure individuals and families are suitable and matched for adoption. I feel much better knowing these organizations do not just hand out animals to anyone who wants one. Thank you for dedicating your time and energy to finding these very deserving cats safe and loving homes.

A really cool place to enjoy some food and beverages or just enjoy the company of cats. Their menu includes lots of options for those with dietary restrictions. The cat room is large with lots of seating and has no cat smell! Their permanent residents are beautiful cats. Toe Beans partners with the local animal shelter and has tons of adoptable cats in addition to their permanent residents. There are also feline related and art items available for purchase. I would definitely recommend this place for a fun, unique experience for cat lovers.

Amazing, great cats, cute set up, fun board games, quiet atmosphere, adorable snacks, treats, and stuff to buy. Incredible, loving it hardcore, personally I won't be able to come back for a while but I hope this place stays next time I come back to Port Hope!

I loved it! The perfect place for a tea and time with cats! I had a cat cookie and a delicious smoothie and bought some treats for the cats, of course. Princess Zelda is pretty cheeky and tried to scoop all the treats out of the cup. It was also great fun watching the kittens running around and chasing each other. It's worth the visit, if you love cats!

If you are a cat lover you should definitely visit this place. We adapted 2 kittens from here as well. Great coffee time spent with cats.

Cute cat cafe in Port Hope. I've been to quite a few cat cafes around the world and unlike others, this one has the primary goal of adopting out cats from local shelters which is wonderful.

From the photos, I thought there would be more cats in the cafe. Although that might be a good thing that there weren't that many- perhaps they'd all been adopted out. You can tell that the staff really care about the cats, and some of the less-nice cats are drawn to and bonded to the staff. They also provide you with toys to play with the cats.

I would say that the cafe could improve on cleanliness. It would also be great if they offered slippers for guests, since it is mandatory that you remove shoes. I'm sure they would still continue to have patrons if they charged a $5 entrance fee to offset the cost of slippers.

Amazing cafe, get to enjoy your beverage and snack while in the company of Cats. Some are for adoption others live there. Great place to bring a little one.

I looked at your account and saw that you gave 5 star reviews to the following restaurants: MacDonald's, Taco Bell, Tim Horton's and KFC.taking that into mind I can see that you wouldn't know a good coffee shop if it hit you in the face. So my suggestion to you would to take my profile name as an instruction! And stop giving places bad reviews that you have never been to!

Great cat cafe! Cats are well taken care of, staff is very friendly, and the cheesecake was delicious. So glad this place has resulted in lots of adoptions, and will definitely be returning!

Not enough child supervision. Watched 2 children bothering a cat to the point it was swiping at them.
Throwing toys at them not to them, very heart breaking knowing why the cats are there in the first place, they shouldn't be tormented in the process of not being wanted.

Really cool place with some beautiful cats and a great track-record of finding homes for cats and raising awareness in general. Definitely worth a visit. I will say I got a cookie here once and it was adorable but didn't taste great, but the drinks are wonderful!

Nice place to go for a visit. Very clean, no cat smells. Nice selection of books and games, and the 4 cats that belong to the owners are very friendly. They also have adoptable cats from the local shelters, so you have to give them mad props for that! It costs $4/person to enter. For 2 small hot chocolates and a cupcake it was $20, which was a bit too expensive to make it a frequent visiting place for us. Definitely worth a visit. Respectful kids are welcome.

I came here for my birthday and I had a wonderful experience. The chai latte was the best I’ve ever had, the owner was a pleasure to speak to and very knowledgeable about all of the cats she hosted in the room and the various breeds that have come through Toe Beans. I left having had an amazing time and I learned some new things about cats. I would recommend this cafe to anyone for an enjoyable experience and excellent food.

Entry was only a $4 purchase towards a wonderful cause! Our two young children loved learning about the cats and finding out that in less than 5 months, the cafe had helped find forever homes for 46 cats! You could spend the entire afternoon there playing board games and chillin' with cats - a great addition to Port Hope:)

I love going to this cafe! Great staff and lots of food options for people with sensitivities, they are partnered with the Northumberland Humane Society and have resident and foster kitties. Some may say it is expensive coffee but access to cat room is free with the purchase, and is much cheaper than other cat cafes. Lots of parking and wheelchair accessible. I highly recommend their London fog and cat cuddles as a great way to spend a day!

This is a cute place to go to have a relaxing time with some cats and (if you are looking) make one a forever friend. The staff is extra nice and the service is excellent. Only four stars because the majority of their "snacks" are from a gluten free bakery that i'v already given a poor review. Worth the visit just for the coffee and a kitty kuddle.

Great place for people with food sensitivities. I have a gluten sensitivity and was amazed at all the treats that I could eat! Also, BEST cappuccino I've ever had! The cats were so fun to watch and play with. I also love that the cats can be adopted out. Amazing idea! Keep up the great work you do and can't wait for my next visit.

Cool place to hang out with cats of various temperaments. Some are shy other's are out going. Some will come and take over the table your sitting at, like most cats. Accommodates most dietary needs, from vegan to gluten free. Plesant place to visit and enjoy the company of cats.

Toe Beans Cat Cafe is wonderful.

The cat room is large with lots of enrichment for the cats and lots of places for cats to hide and feel comfortable. It is decorated nicely and I felt very comfortable visiting. They have a few permanent resident cats that live at the cafe and then several rescue cats up for adoption through the Notherumberland Humane Society. When I visited there were approximately eight cats, more than enough to go around.

They have a good selection of vegan options, I tried the nainamo bar and marshmallow chip bar both were great. The lattes were some of the best I've ever had.

I wish I lived in Port Hope so I can visit all the time!

My friends and I were so looking forward to coming to Toe Beans Cat Cafe!
Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. The staff looked miserable, and the place just felt very sad and uncomfortable. We bought an iced tea which ended up tasting like watered down cranberry juice, and a caramel late that had no caramel in it. I couldn't drink the "iced tea" because it tasted horrible. We feel as if our money has been wasted after spending less than 10 minutes with the cats, who were unapproachable and seemed to be scavenging around for food. I hope that these issues will be improved, but I don't think we will be coming back any time soon.

Had a few delicious drinks (the mocha was amazing!) and got to play with adorable cats and kittens. What's not to love? Honestly Toe Beans has been doing amazing work in getting cats to forever homes and I'm so happy to see so many wonderful kitties adopted.

Absolute love it. The cafe is fun and colorful the cats are adorable. The food is good, slightly pricey but understandable so as it includes the cost of visiting the cats. They have kittens which is all u really need to know to instantly love it.
