Horrible experience returning my cat that I adopted from TCR due to him developing severe allergies and we were financially unable to support him anymore. The volunteer I was in touch with for the process was kind and communicative but Nalini who was a the director accused me of animal abuse when she saw the state of my cat when I dropped him off at the animal hospital. She didn’t even look at the medical records for my cat or even asked for all the receipts of the huge amounts of money I spent taking care of my cat. Instead, she decided to report me to PAWS which was extremely unprofessional without even looking for the facts. Think before you act. Absolutely disgusting behaviour and an incredible waste of time I have to put into to resolve a case with a clear outcome.

We got our beautiful kitten here. The process of adopting was straightforward and simple. Our kitten matched our energy and personality and we cannot be any happier.

I fostered for them several years ago and they were not transparent at all in the health of the cat I fostered. After I received her they told me she had just been spayed and had multiple health problems that they didnt warn me about, and later told me I was giving her poor quality food. I felt that the communication through the emails were condescending, and they never expressed any gratitude.

One of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever encountered. The volunteers of the service are very organized and of course never tire from loving all the cats they save.

I am just so happy that's there are no longer many cats in shulters as they have been adopted more than dogs. Don't get me wrong, I love dogs and all animals, but cats have been a long time since I adopted my cats 11 years ago when I first adopted my cats to now. I am so glad people start recognizing cats can be fun and companion as much as dogs or maybe more, ad my cats are worse than dogs they never leave me alone.

Lol.couldn't get through.so sad.and called another cat rescue and left a message still no call back
22 May 2023 4:16
Don't volunteer here! They don't value or appreciate your time and dedication. How can a rescue have 4 paid executives? Something here isn't right!
09 May 2023 16:03
Worst place ever for a volunteer. A rescue should not have paid employees. When ppl donate im sure they dont know the money isn't going to the cats. Completely disgusting.

I got 2 of my babies from TCR and I can definitely tell you - their mission is toward saving all these poor kittens & cats

All of the TCR cats are sprayed / neutured and healthy with vaccine up-to-date so Im always have a peace of mind when adopt my baby from them. The process was fast & straight forward, they will do a screening on call & via form to make sure you are eligible to adopt the cats & bring them to a good homes.

Jenn from TCR Adoption Team is super cute - she is really kind and patient everytime I emailed her to ask questions regarding my babies even when I already adopted them for a while.

The adoption fees is still super affordable to everything they did to help the cat in my opinion so if possible - please donate them so they can save more cats and bring them better life. Your donations matters.

We’ve adopted two kittens from here and they’ve been the best additions. Both get along with our dog and came well adjusted from the beginning. The adoption process was very seamless.

Adopted a beautiful cat named Lucie. Process was quick and easy and pretty cheap! Loved my experience with them. All details about the animal are freely given. Any medical, dental or past things you need to know. Awesome service too

Had joined this group when my cat got lost in a park. I posted some vedios and pics with a description of how it got lost asking for advice and help. The response was very good. I got a great deal of information and advice.

Many cats in need of adoption that I would love to adopt one of. The $200 adoption fee has stopped me so far. While we hear how many cats are in need of adoption I would like to see more made available at 50% adoption fee. I would jump at the opportunity!

I adopted my cat and he's going to be 14 in 2 months! Amazing screening process, first shots inc & not from a shelter. Raised in a loving home.

I would like to volunteer. I have a rescue cat since 2017 and she is doing well. I could foster a cat till it gets adopted.

I adopted a beautiful little tabby girl from there and both of us couldn't be happier. The process was smooth and easy. Thank you volunteer Cheryl and foster Joshua. Meet Stella (formerly Pepper)

It's been a couple weeks since we brought Jacky home. We couldn't be happier. There are several steps before you can go ahead and adopt but it's for the right reasons. Jacky has been amazing! She's happy and healthy and enjoying her new forever home. TCR made the entire experience pleasant and there were no surprises. Highly recommend TCR. Thank you!

My partner and I adopted through Toronto Cat Rescue and picked up our cat on October 27th. She is our first pet together and were excited for this experience. We were advised that we would be receiving our cat's VCA Healthy Start certificate shortly thereafter; however, it is now a full week later and we still have not received anything. My cat is not feeling well and I need her to get checked with the VCA Animal Hospital (as per Toronto Cat Rescue's guidelines with the VCA certificate). I've reached out to Toronto Cat Rescue through their post-adoption form, Instagram, and Facebook and only received a response that my inquiry was directly forwarded to their post-adoption lead. The only response received from the post-adoption lead was asking if I had checked my junk/spam mail. I promptly responded that both inboxes were empty - and now we are sitting here with no reply. It is frustrating that their post-adoption communication makes you run in circles just for a resolution. It should not take a week and a full day to simply resend or forward an e-mail; whether it be an acknowledgement or the actual document itself. This is completely unacceptable. For those thinking about adopting through Toronto Cat Rescue, err to the side of caution since their communication for post-adoption inquiries are futile. What a disappointment as a first time pet owner with this organization.

They are careful and thorough with adoption process. They will only accept clients that will vow to keeping their cat (s) indoor.

I have been trying to adopt a kitten from a long time. When I see a kitten I like, I am sure I am the first one to email them but they never reply. Later they reply saying that the kitten has a home now. This is not how a shelter should work. They definitely have favourites. I have finally decided to quit because they are big liars. They shouldn’t post pictures if kittens already have a home.

Negligent and irresponsible. My cat broke out of her crate the day picked her up, right outside of the fosters home on August 13th. The foster had admitted that the lock to the crate (that they provided) was "flimsy" after the cat had broke out of it. When I contacted TCR they were not helpful and did not provide any resources in aiding my cats rescue. It took them a week for them to finally step up and help. It's now been three weeks and I still have no cat.

Super nice and friendly staff. Helps me all the time when I find kittens (and one dog) here and there. I take it to this place with appointment and they are so accommodating

I adopted this sweet little cat named Ivy from Toronto Cat Rescue and she has brought me nothing but sheer joy!

Just over a month ago, I adopted a 9 year old cat, Snowball. Everything was great at first. We picked her up from Toronto where her foster family was and brought her home.

A couple days later, I noticed some bugs crawling around her. Well, they were fleas. Yup, fleas. Then I noticed something in her ears. MITES! Freaking mites! I asked the couple who fostered her (who we picked up from) and she said "oh yeah I'm so sorry I just found flea debris in my apartment, hopefully our other foster cat doesn't get them. "

I adopted this cat who had fleas and mites (that now infect her ears and her chin) and nobody had a clue. Do you have any idea how hard it is to get rid of fleas? It takes MONTHS, its expensive and time consuming.

So thanks, Toronto Cat Rescue! Maybe you should be a little bit more invested in the status of a pets health before you send them off to a new home, as well as the foster families you are allowing these pets to enter.

Also, they will not answer the phone or return your calls. I called to complain about this and let them know the name of the foster family who sent us home with all these parasites (to prevent others from encountering the same problem) and they never called me back.

They have no idea that status of the cat's health prior to adoption, nor the conditions of the foster home, so if these are things important to you, stay away.

What a joke. STAY AWAY!

Would not recommend if your intention is to foster cats. Their volunteers are unprofessional, and lack empathy and gratitude for the foster parents. The way that they assign foster cats is not transparent at all. They put you on an intake list email chain which occasionally gets sent out but most cats are supposedly already assigned within 2 minutes of the drop. They clearly have favourite foster homes and a culture of commodifying cats which goes against the very essence of a rescue. After 3 months of trying, I decided to opt out of volunteering with them.

It's such a shame that there are supposedly all these cats who need homes, and there are people who are interested in given them a home who are ghosted when they try to adopt. They say they will call you back within 24 hours. It has been 4 days and radio silence. I called and emailed. I wouldn't be upset as I know it is a volunteer run organization, and I am sure they do good work, but don't SAY ON YOUR VOICEMAIL that you will call people back within 24 hours and that the animals ;urgently' need homes and then blatantly not get back to people. It's shameful. All the 5 star reviews are obviously from the handful of people who got a response. I'm sick of all these preachy people saying 'adopt don't shop'. I have been trying to adopt a rescue animal for months from various agencies and it's virtually impossible. Either the criteria is so intense, or they don't respond to you at all. Very sad.

Listen to the negative reviews and stay away! I had horrible experience with them like others have said and will no longer be supporting them financially. There are better rescue groups in the GTA!

I adopted Maverick in May 2018 and appreciate everything Toronto cat rescue does to give their cats a good home. Prior to adopting Maverick he was provided critical dental care and neutered by TCR. Maverick had respiratory issues on day 1 due to the stress of moving into a new home and they assisted with the vet care. I couldn't be happier with our new family member and the adoption experience:)

I recently adopted a beautiful and sweet cat from Toronto Cat Rescue. The Centre aids in finding new homes for these cats and I definitely appreciate the amount of effort and hard work that takes. However, I was sorely disappointed in the lack of attention to detail in the adoption process. After paying the fee, I was not provided any further information on my cat's previous medical record. I was assured that my cat had gone through a basic medical exam and vaccination. However, when I went to the vet 4 days after adopting her, the vet told me that 1.the rescue had gotten my cats age wrong. (she was most likely closer to 3 years than 1 year) and 2.they found struvite crystals in her urine which caused her a lot of pain. I'm really glad to have adopted her and this additonal information would not have changed my decision. But it was crucial information that was necessary to provide her the best care possible and to not provide me with the proper information was cruel negligence on their part.

They were awesome. They helped me get my 17 yr old cat back. He had escaped out a window barely cracked open. Somebody held my cat in their garage for 2 days, not knowing what to do. (I would of called Animal Services immediately, but thats me.) Finally, the Cat Rescue was called, he was taken to a vet, and the microchip company called me. No vet bill for me. Toronto Cat Rescue (Monica) was amazing. Thanks to all involved.

The person in charge of reviewing the adoption applications is incredibly rude and unprofessional. God forbid you make any mistakes in the application or you would be completely banned. They won’t even heard to your explanation and just label you as a lying person. I feel bad for the cats. They should hire qualified staff that are trained to deal with the public.
01 July 2021 16:08
Puddles did have mites in his ears.
He was scratching a lot and now he’s on medication.
However my adoption experience was great. The volunteers were very responsible and helpful. The interview was great, I was very happy to answer all the questions because I know they are trying to find a good home for these cats.
Rescuing cats is not easy. It requires a lot of resources and patience. They’re doing a decent job here.

If you want to adopt a cat make sure you have lots of money for the unexpected vet costs for diseases or issues not previously mentioned by the rescue. Have a really sweet loving cat out of it who really needed a good home so for that I'm thankful. But these people suck and bad. Please be careful!

2 years already I have adopted my fosters and I cannot be happier! I love my girls so much and had a very good experience with TCR as a foster home and also through the adoption process. Being a foster mom is the best decision I've made, I got to know the cats personality and behavior prior and ended up with a match made in heaven!
Please give a chance to these kitties, even if they are "grown ups" or had a rough life!
