I'm thankful for the opportunity to participate in the AHEAD study. It means that I am being followed closely by experts in dementia, clinically and also by researchers. I was at the clinic when the particular drug was approved by the FDA for individuals with early onset Alzheimer's to slow the advance.
I don't have dementia. I'm honored to contribute to this important research related to prevention &/or delay of dementia.

It is refreshing to know that regardless of the impact on me, by participating in research, I can possibly assist others. The staff were always warm, friendly and helpful and made every effort to adjust schedules to work with mine. It was a pleasure to participate in this research. I highly recommend it to others.

The staff is very friendly and (for the most part) attentive to the needs of the client. I travel a bit of a distance (from Barrie) and they do a good job of accommodating my schedule.

Both my parents died while suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Based on those experiences, I was highly motivated to assist with any research looking at non-invasive and affordable techniques to diagnose Alzheimer’s disease earlier and more accurately. A one day commitment at Toronto Memory Program started my involvement. Through that study I learned I carried a genetic risk for Alzheimer’s and already had abnormal levels of brain amyloid plaques and tau tangles. I was asked if I wanted to participate in one of two trials about to start at Toronto Memory Program and chose the AHEAD 3-4/5 trial investigating the effects of a monoclonal antibody (lecanemab, trade name leqembi) on participants with abnormal levels of brain amyloid but no cognitive deficits (pre-clinical Alzheimer’s). After several months of testing I was accepted into the AHEAD trial and have recently completed year 1 of a 4 year trial.

Although it is a huge time commitment and I have no idea if I am receiving the drug or a placebo, I remain motivated to help address Alzheimer’s disease and assist in any way I can in finding drugs that can slow down the course of the disease, or prevent or even cure it. Staff at the Toronto Memory Program are organized, capable, friendly and efficient; they work hard to make sure trial participants have the information they need, answer any questions that arise and provide as much flexibility in scheduling as possible to ensure participants can still lead active lives outside of the trial commitments.

Leqembi has recently been approved in the United States for slowing down the course of the disease in people with early Alzheimer’s. I am proud to be part of the follow up trial determining if the effects of leqembi are even more pronounced in people with pre-clinical Alzheimer’s.

The staff at the Toronto Memory Clinic make taking part in this research project a very pleasant experience. I look forward to seeing my regulars. I also find the coordinators to be very accommodating if I require the occassional change in my scheduled visits. I wouldn't hesitate to sign up again. Such an easy way to contribute to the search for a treatment for Alzheimer's

I have been participating in an Alzheimer’s drug trial at the TMP clinic for the past 18 months. I feel so lucky and am so grateful for the opportunity to help myself and others through this very important research. My genetic risk for Alzheimer’s is scary, but now I am empowered to do something about it! I cannot say enough good things about the people at Toronto Memory Program. The staff feel like my family now. They treat me so well and take such great care of me and my safety, I couldn’t ask for more. If anyone has concerns about their risk for Alzheimer’s or other cognitive conditions, please reach out to TMP. They are a wonderful resource, and they can help you!

The clinic is clean. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. MJ was great. She is very professional and thorough in explaining the details of the clinical study I am participating in. The blood work was painless, smooth, and easy. I like the Med Tech who assisted me. I was seen by Dr. Cohen, he was great. I feel that I am in a safe and good hands. Thank you all. Thank you to the pharmaceutical who sponsored this clinical study. It means a lot to search for a medication that would help prolong one's memory.

As a just-finished, five year plus clinical trial participant, I would rate my experience with the Toronto Memory Program as excellent. The front and back office personnel are highly professional and well-trained - respectful, caring and efficient. My in-person visits were well-managed and on time, and any follow-ups by phone or email were responded to quickly, and with courtesy.

This is by far the worst experience with a so-called caring doctor. I was put alone in a room with just a chair and nothing else, where I sat and waited for THREE HOURS.
The doctor would ONLY speak with, and ask for information from, my husband about my health. That was degrading and irrespecutful and he expressed NO compassion whatsoever.
Find a good doctor - this is not one.

I signed up for one of the Toronto Memory Program trials. As it turned out I was not a candidate. However I gained insight into the incredibly valuable work that the Program does. Everyone I interacted with during the initial phases including the preliminary testing was welcoming and professional. The follow up and results of the testing (which showed that I was not a candidate) was in itself instructive and reinforced my understanding of the great work the Program does. I would encourage anyone interested to participate in the trials they run. It will be a valuable contribution to society, lead to an understanding of the scourge of dementia, its potential treatment and of course it may well benefit the participant.
