I have been coming here for years and let me tell you it's one of the cleanest and we'll maintained hospitals I have been in. From information and security do nurses and surgeons I have had nothing but the best experiences here. Even though once was surgery related but the experience was a calm and comfortable one.

A very calm place in the downtown area, shocked a little as I thought that it will be a busy building with a lots of people and traffic around.

Lol waiting times here is a joke. Staff doesn’t care about patient’s. Avoid this location.

A situation occurred during surgery. There is always a risk when having surgery. My surgeon at Toronto Western Hospital was one of the best and smoothed out the hiccup that happened during intubation.

I have been coming to TWH for my MRI follow up appointments and today’s 3: 45 pm appointment was the best - from registration to MRI staff. They were professional, friendly and caring! Thank you very much for providing the TLC needed to get through this appointment with little anxiety - much appreciated!

To much to say with this place. Amazing stuff patients are amazing too. Having surgery on Monday and I’ve already been here a week. And everyone has made feel at home when my family can’t be here. The nurses on my ward is just truly amazing and to many to name. But highly recommended. Thank you to all the staff for looking after me.

DO NOT! I REPEAT DO NOT GO TO TWH EMERGENCY IF YOU HAVE SICKLE CELL. THEY ABSOLUTELY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR AND DON’T TRY TO HELP. THE DOCTORS ARE HORRIBLE

Do not go to this hospital unless you want to be mistreated by nurses (on 8th floor). They are beyond unprofessional and rude. It seems as there is no communication between doctors and nurses which the patients pays the price for. The nurses basically run the show and over ride doctors. This hospital is not UHN potential, it is a disgrace for UHN.

Went to get checked for joint pain plus tendon and after meeting the doctor I was told they couldnt provide a ct scan or any xray and was told to go a walk in clinic.if you don't want to waste your time do not go to this hospital.

It was discovered that my father had a giant brain aneurysm that miraculously did not rupture but was causing excruciating pain without any relief. We were made aware that it was a very challenging operation with many possible complications. While we had a hard waiting period of several weeks for surgery, it was 100% worth it. The surgeons were ultimately able to save my fathers life and the MRI post surgery showed no strokes. He is still recovering but making big strides with each day.

I thought it was important to write this review and experience because there are so many negative reviews about emergency and for anyone going through such a stressful time with a sick loved one, it's reassuring to hear that you can trust the amazing neurosurgical team are the best of the best! Wishing you the same experience.

Edit: my father has continued to improve without any complications and we are incredibly thankful to everyone that treated him with care and consideration. Words cannot express - thank you

Not a fan of hospitals. But had to go, been having some back issues. Very confusing hospital but never even had to ask, there were staff offering to help me and guide me. Holding the elevator and offering their assistance. Very friendly. Had an appointment so didn't have to wait long. The doctor I saw was fantastic and kind. Took her time going through everything. Great experience.
23 June 2023 2:28
You have to dedicate at least 4-6 hours to be seen at this hospital. (Been here 3 times) There's more police with patients than there are doctor's. (I truly believe in charging for healthcare to reduce wait times.)

Worst hospital ever. This is not just from one experience but several inpatient visits over 3 years. Covid made it worse, but even before, compassion and humanity is out the window. It's all about. Patient centered care does not exist. The Emergency nurses and emergency doctors are excellent. Shout out to Dr. Arnold and nurses (sorry forgot all their names) in the energ dept. They deal with so many people yelling and swearing at them. They are the real heros. Once you get onto the floors, the nurses and PSWs are also great! But the reception staff are so miserable! There is a communication gap between day and evening shift staff and between doctos and staff. The doctors are arrogant and possesses a holy-er than thou attitude (but what else is new). And it is all about politics ("empty out those beds", discharge, discharge, discharge.)

Stay healthy everyone, stay away from hospitals. The system is crashing and no one cares how it effects the public and for those who really need the help to heel.

I had a very bad experience with staying on a very long waiting in XRY fracture department first floor
The receptionist was super slow and instead of helping long line of Paitent they were chatting and laughing together No respectful
I had pain and ligaments tear and no respect from receptionist. So rude with everyone

Many fantastic doctors work out of this facility, however like most if not all of Ontario patient care has plummeted to well below minimum expectations. Senior nurses who remain continue to provide phenomenal patient care, however new and often inexperienced nurses have had to be hired due to a mass exodus following COVID and many of them are simply not up to par. My daughter's stay was full of incidents that can be considered nothing short of malpractice. Her surgical team was phenomenal but the care afterwards was abysmal. If you are going to have to stay in this hospital as an inpatient, you absolutely must have someone there advocating for you. Unfortunately this is the state of affairs pretty much everywhere in this province now. Our already precarious healthcare system has been completely obliterated.

Rude Nurses and only if you get behind them; then there is a fair chance that they will work quickly instead of sitting idle. The reports were right there an hour before; but the careless nurse wanted me to wait. May God give her some wisdom

Excellent treatment in the Emergency Department. Efficient and very knowledgeable Doctor and Resident! Kind treatment for my husband and positive attitude from nurses and associates! Open to my questions and approachable. Well run in these difficult times. Above my expectations!

I had MVD surgery Feb 22,2023. I really wish I could remember the names of my nurses! I was on the 6th floor for 6 days. My care was amazing. Thank you so much for your kindness, knowledge, professionalism, and incredibly positive attitude.
I would also like to thank housekeeping and porters. All amazing!
I hope to never have to be hospitalized again…. But if I do, the 6th floor at TWH is were I’d want to be.
Most Grateful,
Nancy Towie

If I could give less than one I would. I have never experienced such awful care. The nurses and doctors are egotistical and do not listen to their patients. They don't explain what they are doing or injecting you with and there is very little kindness. If the care was at least good I could over look that, but the nurses struggle to put in IV needles (I have bruises up and down my arms from the attempts), they openly infront of the patient get confused about tools and they don't communicate what's going on with your care which makes everything much more stressful. Find literally any other hospital if you actually want help.

I am a patient currently sharing a room with Naija who felt very strongly to voice her opinion on her experience but is not as tech savvy and she would like. These are her words:

“My name is Maija Henning I have been to 8 different hospitals and this is the best one I’ve been to. The social worker, Robin, gave me confidence and reassurance that I will go home. The nurses are fantastic; I will probably gain weight because the food is so good. This is the best hospital I’ve ever been to. I am very lucky I ended up here. Very slowly, I’m getting better thanks to Toronto Western staff. Very many thanks to all the nurses, psychologists, physical trainers. I am so thankful that I ended up here and not St. Joseph’s. ”

Don't park here especially at night! At 2am the parking machine wouldn't work and I called for help but no one answered. I kept trying to get help and no one would come.

I went inside and asked security and they said someone is supposed to be manning the parking lot for help and yet no one answered the call button.

Absolutely terrible.

Came here with a broken finger (pinky). I was looked at right away. But I did wait a few hours for my X-Ray.
Doctor was absolutely amazing.
Surgeon Doctor was very friendly helpful and made me feel comfortable.
Emergency department was not busy at all.
A lot of homeless individuals came to get warm and got some food.

You might hate hospitals but the ppl in this place just makes it a better experience. Medical imaging staff one of my favourite. Just try McDonald’s lol

My first doctor Mario in the emergency psychiatry department was condescending and explained my trauma after being beaten by an ex as “boy trouble”. The front desk person Amber is quite condescending. Three times in a row I have been prescribed amounts that would leave me unmedicated for three days plus. I’ve had to repeatedly beg to speak to a dr and re ask questions about my medication when this happens.

I have gone through withdrawal twice now because of this. How is this emerg? What if I was a danger to myself or someone else? It took me years to get help, and every time the front desk makes this process harder for me, it makes me want to not come back. Shame on you.

Thank god I’m well enough to advocate for myself, but my heart bleeds for those who cannot. I understand that the healthcare industry is overworked and Covid has been hard, but remember we are human beings fighting for our lives.

I went to emergency here. After waiting for 6 hours with back pain all night not being allowed to lay down, and told if I did lay down I'd be removed from the waiting room by security, I saw a nurse. The nurse who saw me at Western Hospital said I was fine, gave me an advile and sent me home.

I had a disk with 4 fractures in my spine between L5 and S1 from a serious work injury that had compressed the root of the nerve coming out of my spine and down my hip and leg. The pain was incredible and I could not walk for 3 months. I had an MRI done at another hospital with another doctor later that revealed this.

Another time I went to the Pain Clinic here. It was for a steroid injection for my pain in my spine mentioned above. I asked for the doctor to do the work, not a student. When I was laying on my front a student was switched in place of the doctor without my consent. The student had the needle in my back and I told them they were near the spine in the right place to do the injection and instead of doing the injection there, they shoved the needle deep into my spinal cord causing me scream so loud my freind in the waiting room down the hall heard me, then I blacked out. I am very lucky I was not paralyzed because of their negligence and shoddy uneducated work. Having a needle stuck into your spinal cord has very very very serious affects. They refused to give me the documents and records for the visit which I believe is illegal to withhold, otherwise I would sue them for causing me to black out and possibly go into a coma and potentially paralyzing my legs. They said I was under for 15 minutes but checking the time afterwards it was more like hours. I was in a different room on a different bed and some nurse was trying to talk me out of the mini coma.

It was like a horror movie. The worst medical experiences of my life!

I want to command 95% of the staff. However when it comes to Dr. Huang he treated my Mother with sarcasm and disresect, which i did not appreciate. I don't think he learned that in medical school. He learned that on his own.

Also the daytime "lady", located at the first doors at Emergency needs to keep her sarcasm to herself.

All the other Doctors, orderlys, and cleaners were examples of professionals.

For all the complaints hospitals get, I have had decent service without a wait more than 45 min, whether it was for emergency or getting an x-ray.

Worst nightmare of a hospital. Had to have my sister admided for the night and they put us in a 20 by 20 foot room with 4 very sick people and I could not even go get a drink or food because they put us somewhere that if you leave you have to find security to let u back in. No care about people and there comfort. DO NOT TAKE YOUR FAMILY THERE.

I was a walk-in at Toronto Western's emergency room yesterday and I couldn't be more pleased with my experience.
In 4.5 hours, I was assessed, seen by a doctor/tests ordered, CT scan performed, blood work done, results/final analysis explained, meds/prescriptions given and discharged. A truly well-oiled machine. Thorough, efficient and caring treatment from the nursing team, technical staff and Dr Jahangir. I arrived as a hot, anxious mess and left with peace of mind / clear path forward. Thank you team.
