Terrible service here by the health care 'professionals' and I use that terms extremely loosely. Pre-triage attendant was pretty rude and not very friendly or welcoming. Came here to tale my mom and eventually after 2 hours she got called in the other room to see a doctor. The male 'nurse' who called to take her in was sooooo rude! I couldn't believe his attitude! Extremely unprofessional and pathetic. He was definitely out of line. Guy was giving me so much attitude and the minute ypu try and say something to stick up and defend yourself he says to go wait outside. I would not come here ever again unless my life depended on it and I highly do not recommend anyone coming to this emergency room if they have a choice. The waiting room is very dirty and unsanitary. That coupled with the rude and unprofessionalism of the staff working here equals just bad experience overall. I think I would rather die than come back here for any type of service. I've been to a few hospitals and emergency rooms but this one has to be the worst of them all! Even worse than st. Mike's and st. Joe's! The staff here really need some training o how to treat people and patients! I'm sure there's times when these rude individuals may get treated badly by some but man do they deserve it for the way they treat people! What goes around comes around! I wish this guy would come to my place of work so I could tell him to hit the road! These rude workers just treat patients so badly because they can, if you try and defend yourself or speak up for yourself they simply say that you are abusive to them and have the police come. In reality they're just bullies doing whatever they feel like with no remorse or consequences since they know if you try and say anything or stand up for yourself they will just call the cops on you. Whatever happened to our anti-bullying laws? ! I really am so amazed that these are the people we hire to treat the sick and injured? What were we thinking? If these kinds of people hate their lives and jobs so much they shoyld find a new profession as they really don't deserve to be working I health care that's for sure! Wow it's not just the one guy who is rude! There was another guy waiting in the waiting room, a nurse called his name he said do you have a wheelchair? Her response was why you can't walk? He replied no tha5s why I'm here for. Her rebuttal that she yelled while walking away to get him one was well how would I know? Thats why I asked! Really? Tha5s considered compassionate, caring, or kind? Nope justmore examples of the terrible service provided by all the staff working here!

4 hour wait because there's only one doctor on Sunday morning.
Incredibly rude nurses and assistants at the ER. Even when you have a simple question.
Many other patients, including elderly, waiting while an army of other staff walking around aimlessly and sitting chatting.

Worst experience ever. I have waited here for 3 hrs and my condition was getting a lot worst than before. So i politely asked how many people do i still have to wait in front of me. The nurse was so rude and told me people have waited 7 hrs, if you dont want to wait, go home! I was in shock and she also yelled at other patients too. OMG Is this the service that we tax payers get? I will never come back to this place anymore, not recommended too!

Went to emergency room and the Filipino lady that takes the registration was very caring, attentive to my needs, and empathetic. Been to other emergency rooms before and they made me feel like im just one of hundreds. Kudos to this hospitable lady.

The worst hospital I ever been. I been here 2 times and both experiences were terrible. I usually carry epipen with me because of random allergic reaction. Usually other hospital put me as priority because I cannot breath if I don't get treated right away. I explained my situation and the nurses were just ignoring me or saying you have to wait at least 2 hours. So I went to the other emergency, they let me in immediately. The staffs are terrible, doing nothing, just laughing so loudly in the corner. DONT GO HERE.

I AM BEING DETAINED HERE ON SKETCHY DOCUMENTS AT BEST. I ARGUED TO BE SWITCHED TO VOLUNTARY DETAINMENT. THEN WHEN IT WAS TIME FOR ME TO LEVE THEY SAID THAT MY HOLD WAS REINSTATED.

Some of the staff here are amazing, but they are steadfastly loyal to staying. Other staff are negligent liars, whi will manipulate you to think you are free to leave, and then when the offices of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association they will flip the script on you. Could someone from the CCLA reach out to me

A decent hospital with caring doctors & nurses. I was waiting for an hour despite my pain was severe. Overall it's a good hospital

Paramedics got me to Toronto Western as I couldn't move due to lower back pain from coughing. Expected long wait on weekend but staff were empathetic and helped me to bathroom and transferred me to bed so I feel more comfortable. Nurses were supportive as I don't like blood work, IV but helped me made it through and Dr gave prescription so I can move better and be on road to recovery. Also gave me shoes as I was trying to get to stretcher ASAP with help and went barefoot (which was ok since I am on bed) Thank you everyone for all your help and support.

That said, if moving is not easy and if you can, bring family member or loved one along so they can help you get food/water as the food court is 5 mins away from waiting area.

I waited for more than three hours for the doctor and then left home without any treatment, as I could not sit any longer with nausea and light headedness at that uncomfortable waiting area.

Waited in emergency waiting room for over 4 hours without seeing a doctor. Took over 45 minutes to get triaged. While I was there the washroom was not cleaned even one time.

There was a woman who thought she broke a rib in severe pain asking medical staff for help to go to the washroom and they were ignoring her. Would give 0 stars if I could.

This is place is no different from any other Canadian emergency room with brutal waiting, only who is in severe pain needing care knows how the waiting can be infuriating. I spent the last 8 years in AB an one of my concerns moving to ON was the broken public health system in Ontario, just not worse than Quebec.
Alberta Health is not great, but at least you get to know the waiting time before you go, differently than here in Ontario that you have no idea.
The only data they offer is the average waiting time which seems to be so wrong

I had an accident (hit my nose, forehead and knee) on Feb 24 and went to the emergency room. At the time I didn’t have the Ohip card since I have arrived as a permanent resident to Canada on Feb 20. I have told the registration employee that I am a permanent resident but I haven’t had a chance to apply for an ohip card (it has been 4 days since I have arrived in Canada). The registration employee was rude and with no empathy telling me “if you don’t have an ohip card you are self pay and non resident”. If this is the hospital policy, I find it very disheartening. What happens to people who move to Canada and have an accident before getting the ohip card?

Edit: On April 7th, I was able to speak with Billing office (Catherine). In the system, I had a bill because I didn’t have an ohip card by the time I visited the emergency room. However, I was able to apply for the ohip card after my accident. Catherine was able to validate my card and confirm that the bill will be covered by ohip.
I appreciate speaking with Billing office. Catherine was very kind and willing to help.

The place is run down and has a very strong foul smell coupled with cleaning detergent fumes. This combination is overwhelming for me while I am suffering from a shortness of breath. The wait area for xrays is beyond horrific, some chairs are sealed saying "do not sit here" and some exposed, but the foul smell coming from the OPEN rundown bathroom next to the chairs is abysmal. I could not tolerate it after about 10 minutes so i left! I wasted time, but the worst thing is - I went with hope to get the diagnoses and get cured, but left with a more severe difficulty in breathing! It is a shame to whoever runs this hospital! Terrible shame!

My father was suffering from fatique and difficulty breathing for 3 days (he thought it was the flu which would eventually pass with time) before he finally decided to reluctantly go on his own to the ER at night. As soon as he entered he was checked for blood pressure and heart rate. Without missing a beat codes were yelled out and he was literally whisked away by nurses like in a movie to the cardiology department. Medications were given to stabilize an erratic heart rhythm and a procedure was done to correct it, thus saving his life. Thank you for saving my father's life, Toronto Western! Now, on a different note I see reviews complaining about long wait times, busy nurses not wanting to answer silly questions, and even parking fees. Really? If you don't think your condition is an emergency then try a walk-in clinic or your family physician. While sitting in the same ER myself one night (broken arm) I over-heard people there who complained about fever and sore throat, tummy ache, and one lady got into a fender bender of a car accident who was there for a quick hospital report so she can sue. This is what clogs up the ER, and why waiting times might take hours. Asking nurses how much longer it will take is only slowing them down. Another note - drunk and rowdy patients in the ER (perhaps mentally ill as well) should really get their own section far from the civilized patients just calmly waiting their turn. There should be no chaos whatsoever in the ER waiting room. Thanks for reading!

Family member was brought in by ambulance at midnight suffering seizures. My wife and I arrived at Emerg and were told no visitors and to call in a few hours for update. Phone line to hospital is not monitored and you can't leave a message. They LIED!

Of all the ers I’ve been to it wasn’t what I expected. Wait time wasn’t bad, but the dr there didn’t take me serious at all. I left feeling the same way I was when I went there, all I got was a blood test. Wasn’t taken serious, was upset because I’ve heard good things about the hospital.

Not the cleanest of hospitals. Was pressured into an unnecessary CT scan just so I could be referred to a specialist faster. Internally the hospital is impressive but ER is not the best in my experience.

Great staff in the ER here. Came here in ambulance as result of a bicycle crash. Department tends to be a little slow, where Dr. David and especially Dr. Pierre Lapaine made a difference for my stay. Shout out to nurse Catherine for the care as well

The staff, nurses and docs here are helpful, friendly and efficient. They had to deal with some characters while I was there and I commend their professionality in how they handle things. I am satisfied with my care. ;)

A few years ago, I was shocked to find myself in pain with red spots starting to grown on the right side of my neck. My girlfriend took me here and they took care of me. They concluded that it was the shingles, even verified with a second opinion, explained why I might have gotten it and prescribed medication. I took it, boom, all fixed up within 2 weeks.
Around a month ago, my girlfriend had been having back pain for a few days. Eventually, Tylenol wasn't enough anymore and she finally said she needed to go to the emergency room one night. Of course we went here, but things weren't the same. This time the doctor asked a few questions, and.that was it. No blood was drawn, no tests done, but we still waited a long time. Eventually a nurse came in to tell us we were discharged. He told us the doctor prescribed a stronger pain killer. But there was no conclusion, what caused the pain? We came to find out, but the doctor didn't seem interested to find out. We walked out seeing her discussing another case with a few colleagues while watching a screen.
I'm no medical professional, ok maybe tests weren't needed. Ok, maybe she already drew her conclusion from her questions. But here's what I do know. I know that when we were prescribed a medication, we need a prescription from the doctor. When we went to the pharmacist, we were told that we were only give a summary of the visit to the emergency room, not the actual prescription. We had to get a weaker, OTC version of the pain killer and were left with the choice of overdosing on it in order to match the prescribed dosage vs potentially leaving my girlfriend's back in pain. It was very disappointing to see a doctor who neither cared nor did her job properly.
Very thankful for the two doctors that took care of us a few years back, I don't remember their names. Got unlucky with the recent visit, I think her name was Dr. Duffy.

Had to go to emerge last night and really felt the need to put a good review and word in for Nurse Adam Webster. He was handling a pretty busy night (construction and power outages as well) with such ease and patience.
Aside from that I could sense his compassion, concern and kindness with others and myself.and because of that, made my experience easier overall. ️Thanks!

Actually had a good experience. The staff are amazingly friendly. Had 2 doctors today. The doctors were very friendly and had concern that they were not hurting me. The radiologist technician was very upbeat and friendly. We had a good conversation. Parking down there as always not the greatest but well worth it for the hospital and skill that is there.

Wait times were a bit long to see the triage but was in and treated pretty quickly. Staff were super friendly and accomodating.
