Touhenboku Ramen

It tastes really bad. It feels like eating noodles boiled in plain water. The noodles are still half-cooked. One star is too much. I won’t come here again.

Overall, its very overpriced for this quality of ramen. The broth was flavorless and bland. The same goes for the pork gyoza. I can see why it's so empty.

Ive been here a few times before and the ramen was always pretty good. But today the restaurant was just off. It was open for a few hours and I ordered my food. I never really looked at the menu that close before but TWO DOLLARS FOR 2 EGGS. Jesus. Not only that but right now at 10: 40 pm i am sitting on my toilet suffering from diarrhea.: (

Came here for lunch, just had the tofu and some Sapporo. They accidentally gave me my friend's double order of tofu, so expect about half of what's in the pic lol. We didn't realize until they got theirs last (we were a large group). Oops!

The ambience is alright. The food is good. I ordered the ramen of the day which is at discounted rate.

Their food is good (based on visits in May 2023) however in the last 4 attempts to dine in they walked us away from the door. They are always out of food, this is generally 1-2 hours prior to their closing time.

Decor is different from other ramen places. Friendly staff and good food. Place is clean.

The problem is, during lunch time, a lot of high school students bring their own lunch and sit there with their friends. I would say half the high school students there bring their own lunch boxes and the staff is too scared to tell them off.

Also, those kids are really noisy.

So I guess during the weekdays, this place is catered to high school kids and we, adults, should go after the school lunch break.

Chef and servant have been changed, so the food has cut corners. Taste is still the same with the same recipe, but the quality is disappointing.

It used to have soft boiled egg and corns in most of the noodles. Now you will have tons of green onions.

Meat is either missing or in a very small portion. Chicken Cha shu comes with the shio, not pork.

Karaage and deep fried shrimps are over cooked. Also, lower your expectations for the karaage portion.

Ordered ramen for lunch, food was ok but there was this cloth like thing in it. Not so fun to eat.

To be honest, i really expected a lot for this restaurant.the menu seemed really cool, however what came out of the kitchen was kind of average i guess.i will give the chashu some credit though, it was delicious and it was so much bigger than what current ramen shops put in their ramen.on the other hand, the broth was not that flavourful.we ordered three different ramens (mushroom ramen, black garlic and shoyu) and from the looks of each bowl, it seems as if the broth was completely the same.other than that, the thick noodles were delicious, definitely better than the thin noodles for sure.curry dishes are better than the ramen in my opinion.however this is a ramen restaurant hence i give it a 3 star rating.

The three different dishes I was served ranged from Ramen, rice, and a side. All of these three dishes were fantastic with the crunchy sensation that came with their crispy chicken. The service from the waiter was amazing, he was very kind and expressive.

Would 100% come back for a second round of food.

Came here with a group of friends for a birthday. The seating could comfortably hold 3 on each side so we had to split between two tables.

Our table ordered the black garlic ramen and it was great. The broth was creamy and not overly salty. Depending on your preference, you may enjoy the thick style noodles it comes in. As someone who loves their ramen eggs to be slightly runny inside, I thought these perfectly complimented the bowl in taste and texture.

The soup is bland, the meat is not cooked well enough and very chewy. The egg is 2 dollar extra, which I don't see this in other ramen places. The staff seems very demoted and not happy.

Just found this in my pocket. I have to say this is always my favorite restaurant since I came to Richmond hill five years ago. I ordered a Shoyu and the same karage. The Raman is delicious, as usual, and the karage is very juicy. Absolutely a thumbs up with a rating of 9/10.

Server was honest and pretty jks gave us good recommendations and was quick to respond to requests.

We ordered the ultimate spicy ramen. The spice was hot and delicious, not just there to hurt but actually added flavour

Unfortunately one big downside was the portion size. There was too little noodles in the bowl. However if you're not as fat as me this might be perfect for you

Went to eat ramen at the plaza nearby my house. Very authentic and flavourful ramen! Would recommend trying out this place

I live in the area and have been a patron for several years since Touhenboku opened. On average, we would eat at the restaurant twice or thrice every month. Since early summer, Touhenboku suddenly had a turnover of new staff, with waiters who don't speak and are often very rude - with one notably spilling soup on our table without an apology. My takeout orders have now been incorrect for the most recent three times - after I ask the waiter each time to repeat the order clearly to me. I always order thick noodles, but I have been mistakenly given thin noodles again and again in my order. To top it off, today, I once again asked the waiter to repeat my order, and not only was it ultimately incorrect yet again, but the noodles were overcooked and clumped together, with an almost-doughy texture, like baby food. I was honestly disgusted.

In all fairness, I understand there may be a shortage of staff during this time, but hiring staff who are very rude, don't want to talk, and don't bother to get the orders right is unacceptable and terrible for the business. The chef I saw today when I picked up my takeout was no longer the normal competent chef - rather, it was an older chef I had never seen - who was likely the one causing my noodles today to taste repulsive. Proper training and consistency is what we, as consumers, expect.

On top of all of this, the current prices are astronomically higher than before the turnover - with one having to pay extra for egg on the ramen. The chashu pork, now also priced much higher, has decreased significantly in quality - with half the thickness, and is simply not something one would expect from a restaurant.

Since the turnover and over the past few months, I've watched Richmond Hill Touhenboku's food quality decrease, while prices continue to increase. I've given Touhenboku several chances after a few months of pause to see whether service would change, but nothing has - in fact, it has arguably gotten worse. Today was the final straw. Especially for the prices that Touhenboku charges, the quality of food and service they provide is extremely subpar. After previous years of enjoying food at Touhenboku, I will never return to this restaurant ever again.

We had five different ramen soup bowls yesterday, all of them very good and tasty.
It is a visit we always do when the weather is cold.
