Horrible experience. Have shopped at this location multiple times, but this time a worker I’ve never seen before wrongfully accused our 9 year old of taking a squishy toy. Needless to say she was so upset after. How dare an establishment do such a thing, to a child! As parents it’s our job to teach our children right from wrong, and my children know. Super super disappointed! Won’t be supporting this business anymore.

This small business is awesome! The owner has been there for as long as we have been going and is friendly and helpful. They have the best selection of Playmobil toys in Waterloo Region (and the best sales!).

Seems I’m not the first to have an unpleasant experience here. Visited today with my kids. Had been in the store less than 10 minutes when I was accused of theft by the staff member.

Told me he was going to let me “help him find the missing items” (from the display I was looking at) and eventually calling across the store asking me “have you found my missing items yet? ”
I thought it was odd at first and asked him “how would i know where they are? ” It was then I realised that he was accusing me of theft and was trying to get me to put whatever it was back!

I was carrying my 1 year old son and a small purse. Have no idea how he thought I also had the ability to steal as well.

Something is off about the squeaky voiced guy. He is not only rude, racist but also downright disrespectful. It’s a toy store but he is very annoyed when kids checkout or touch toys. He keeps following you in store especially people of color and we heard him say it to his staff on several occasions. He talked to us like we don’t speak English - I don’t understand you - like fix your ears - i was born/raised here. Will never return. Just wanted to support local businesses but don’t want to deal with a racism!

I strongly disagree with all of the one star reviews, I moved here about six years ago, i’ve been going shopping here for six years. I’ve never had an issue with the store owner in fact, I think he is the nicest dude. He is very easy to talk to, a great sales person. Very nice to my daughter and myself. My daughter collects Breyer, it’s a great little store. They have lots of stock and fair prices.

Wow can't believe someone else had the same experience I had here with feeling like a criminal before even doing anything!
Their clothing rack out front of the store caught my eye while on my way out of the mall. I hadn't planned on stopping in because my 10 month old was whining and wanted out of the stroller. The "customer service" person mentioned to me that the clothes were a great sale so I went to the back to check it out. My son started really losing it and I had to put the $13 girls shirt I was holding down to pick him up and decided to just leave it there and come back when he wasn't with me.
On the way out he ran up to me and asked if I had a daughter while inspecting my stroller. I thought he was trying to make convo so I said "yes". He then asked me where the shirt was that I had. I told him I left it with the other clothes at the back and he said "it's supposed to be out front" like he was scolding me! While holding my crying son, I promptly started walking away and then he hollered to me asking me to tell him again where the shirt was. I guess he thought I stole it? !? ! I was the only one in the store. Maybe instead of making me feel awful, he should have paid better attention to me. I will never be back. People will forget a lot but they never forget how you made them feel.

Amazing store, selection, and staff. The owner is always helpful and caring to help with any questions or suggestions needed. We have been customers for 15 yrs and have always bought all our toys here! Thankful for this amazing store and owner and staff!

Always an amazing experience with friendly and knowledgeable staff. It is nice to shop in an independently owned local store instead of a big box store. Highly recommended.

Really nice people, and a surprisingly good place to pop into for hobby board games as well; their prices on even major board game releases like Wingspan and Azul are bar-none the best I've seen at a retail store. Given time, I'll bet they'll become one of the best spots in the region for hobby gamers. Not just a place for kids!

My daughter and I happened upon this store killing time before a movie at Cambridge Centre. The owner introduced himself and made a very good first impression. I enjoy small businesses like these and my daughter loved the store!

Exceptionally regular price. I checked today and none of the prices are any higher than other online/stores. Especially their limited collection of 1: 16 scale vehicles are great buy for price. Highly recommend for regular toys.

Been going here since I was a little kid, best pokemon card prices in town and a fantastic selection of board games. I buy stuffies from here compulsively and never regret it. So glad this store has survived this long and through so many location changes.

Excellent customer service. Even though they didn't carry what I was looking for they were more than helpful by pointing me in the right direction. Found what I wanted exactly where they suggested. Very friendly and courteous staff.

Does not abide by Waterloo Region face covering bylaw by honouring exemptions. I was yelled at across the busy store by the owner in a rude manner. When I stated my exemption, he refused it by saying that I was going to have to put on a mask if I wanted to stay in the store. Obviously, I left. With 4 kids and the amount of our hard earned money I have given this small business over the years, I was appalled and repulsed by this arrogant response, which is informed by nothing more than his personal preference of masks and not the actual bylaw guidelines themselves. We will never go back.

Fantastic little toy shop with great selection, knowledgeable toy loving staff and friendly service! Worth the drive to Cambridge!

The owner was very combative in directly blaming other retail workers for guidelines outlined by the Ontario gov. He explicitly pointed to a retail worker outside of the store, saying "shes the reason why you need to do curbside". Absolutely unprofessional, demeaning, and truly makes me believe that the owner is making a joke out of this pandemic.

I've been shopping here for 10 yrs. Toy Tales is my favourite toy store! Matthew the owner is super friendly and remembers his regular customers, making every shopping experience special. A store that truly goes above and beyond.

I shop here a fair amount but I was in the store today (feb. 17 2021) with no intent to buy and the girl manning the store was super nice and knolagble. After some conversation I ended up walking out with a lego set. This girl gets 5 stars for her work ethic.

Not a very good selection of items, decent customer service from staff however they do not advise you upon purchasing your items that you cannot do a refund whatsoever. My boyfriend bought something today as a gift for a young child for xmas and later that day found something elsewhere that would be more suitable, so the SAME day came back into the store and tried to return the item with receipt and everything and they said no they only do store credit. Now we are stuck with a store credit at a store we will probably never shop at again as we do not have kids of our own and have no use to buy toys.

Very expensive store and horrible staff. They also do not stand behind their products and do not offer refunds. They also do not make you aware of this policy prior to finalizing your purchase. Very rude staff. I wouldn't nor recommend shopping here or supporting this business.

Has the best prices on board games of any place I've ever been to. Amazingly friendly service, and literally always has a new selection of the newest board games in stock when I go in. Have bought many games here and will continue to!

The owner Matthew is super helpful and very knowledgeable about the products in his store. There are beautiful toys there with quality labels such as Playmobil, Lego and Calico Critters. We never leave with just one thing and the prices are very reasonable. It's worth the drive from Oakville.

I am in awe of how this small local business steps up to help those in their time of need. This week we found ourselves providing childcare in a home that does not usually have children in it. One call to the owner with a few key interests and ages resulted in the perfect gifts for both children. He was sympathetic and kind to our situation and really wanted to help make life easier. He has demonstrated yet again that he cares for his customers and is still there to provide a smile even in the most difficult of situations.

The man who owns this store is a nightmare of an individual who lacks the social skills to interact with a cardboard box, let alone a child. I want to support independent businesses in the age of Amazon, but I certainly will not be returning to Toy Tales anytime soon and I would urge others to consider another option as well. Any other option, really. You can’t do any worse.

The owner was extremely rude! He was biltling and told us that we should by things online because he needs to pay his rent! Then told us that we shouldn't let our kid play on a iPad. He sarcastically ask if our kids stuff toy was a oline purchase then was I said it wasn't he said " wow look at you! Good job"! My son did see things he liked there but I rather find them online then support a business owner that was so rude for no reason

The owner was extremely rude to my wife over purchasing things online. Sure we buy online but have still purchased from this store many times before. Unfortunately, poor customer service and berating customers will be the reason why nobody in our family ever steps foot in your store again and not online shopping.

Great toy store with competitive prices, especially on Bruder vehicles. Wonderful staff; Matthew knows so many of the kids who go in his store by name.

I don't know what store these people were shopping at that had a problem with the owner. I've been shopping here since it opened and he's been nothing but delightful to me. I always go in along for strange requests, I bring my kid in and we touch things. I've never been chased out or yelled at and I honestly can't imagine him doing that. This place is cheaper than most other toy stores in the area and I always go to him first when I need anything.

Always a pleasure to shop at Toy Tales. Everyone is always friendly and extremely helpful. Lots of suggestions are made and the prices are very very reasonable. I always go there first when I am searching for a toy!

Do NOT shop here! The owner is a tyrant and will confront & accuse customers of anything he is suspicious of! After bringing my wife to tears about something that he was 100% incorrect on, we will never shop there again. I see many other people have had similar experiences too.
