Turning Point

Cool place. Managed to get a bunch of movies I was looking for. I just wish their Horror section was bigger. Will definitely be back again.

I couldn't have had more helpful service from the always super-friendly and knowledgeable staff who really know their stuff.

Also really love and appreciate that they've opened my ears to a heap of great music over the years. I never leave empty-handed or unsatisfied.

This was my second visit to the place and I was not very happy. As I approached the front door they had a notice that they were not accepting any new CDs LPS Etc as they had reached their quota. I went in anyways I have now learned that maybe I should phone ahead to make sure they are accepting those items at the time I want to bring them in. My first visit there was great got a half decent price for some things that I'm trying to dispose of.

Super reasonable prices, and a great browsing selection upstairs. Must not miss if looking for vinyl in Ottawa.

Not even paleontologists get a good dig as you do at Turning Point. Quality records and super staff make the experience worth it every time.

We have visited The Turning Point many times over the years and have never left empty handed! Great stock of new arrivals and a wide selection of genres to browse through. Friendly, helpful, staff who know what they're talking about. Always an amazing shopping experience at this local gem.

Turning Point is a house of treasures, whether you're looking for CDs, DVDs, and passion, vinyl records. One could spend hours looking and finding "pure gold". The owner is friendly and helpful.

I'm practically Gen. Z and I can never really get down with digital pieces of media that of which are already being drowned out by the constant flow of sub-par Netflix originals, so as soon as I walked in this physical copy haven was my nirvana. From 70s grindhouse features to garage rock on vinyl, Sergio Leone classics to horror slashers, Turning Point has it all.and plenty of it, too. Vast selection, clean, and organized, it's a rare shop that reminds you why cinema and sound are guilty pleasures we all share.

No hip-hop and cluttered organization of the records, but an overall good shop with great prices and vinyl.

The only old school record store left in Ottawa. Personal friendly service, nice stock and great prices, not gouging like some stores in town.

Went there to get this CD. Due to Covid have sign saying 5 people downstairs and 3 people upstairs. There were just 3 on the main floor and I was rushed outside. Going to have restriction, go by it. If have restrictions, then have a time limit. Making people stand outside in the cold without giving time limits is not fair. I know what it is like to go through records and amount of time you can spend just flipping through. This is not the time to allow people to stay there potentially for an hour or so while people stand outside. Should be 20 to 30 minute limit if only having 3 people on main floor instead of the five your printout said when you walk through 1st set of doors. It is right there when you walk in.
I have disabilities and longer ai am outside, more painful it can be. Thank god someone came out within 20 mins later. Protection those inside also has to be considered for those outside getting potential frostbitten because those inside have no respect for those who have to wait. I went straight to cash, mentioning about CD hoping can be in and out cause an elderly gentlemen is waiting outside. I was less then 2 minutes.took about 30aecs to minute for him to find out and to run it through. This Cad I have been looking for and a remarkable price for the original released CD.
With what I said they will know who I am, they did state they normally don't stay long. This situation that we are in is not normal. It could seem like 10 minutes but, person could have been there more then 30 minutes. When searching for music, time stands still and also speeds by at same time. Rules need to be there for everyone, amount of people, length of time and most importantly to go by what you have written in those rstrictions.

Addendum; I originally put 4 stars but, receiving their reply and wanting to discuss issue is more then some venues would do. This earned the extra star. An owner going that little farther for their customers is what you when going into someone's business for products and/or services!

Awesome first time experience in this shop. Very old school feel. Great selection of classic rock/pop and some blues and jazz. Amazingly affordable prices. The store is well organised and the staff are friendly and very helpful. Highly recommended.

My favourite store in Ottawa hands down. Been going here for years at least once a week. Love it. Great staff and excellent selection.

They have a really fast turnover so if you're looking for anything specific chances are they'll have it at one point or another. They sell records in great condition for great prices. Nice place to dig too.

Warning! If you have high-end or rare items in near mint to mint condition, do not sell here because they confuse capitalism with greed. This pragmatic review is for your benefit as collectors but not consumers.

They have good stock that constantly turns over, are particular about quality condition, and the prices are excellent. Most importantly to me it is a friendly place, I pop in each time I walk by. It's easy to order online these days but there's no substitute for flipping through stacks and finding your gems and their prices are better anyway. It's an important part of our neighborhood and I highly recommend it to any music or movie lover.

This place has a lot of great and hard to find movies. They are constantly getting new stock which is showcased and the prices are very fair. The staff is unbelievably pleasant to deal with, are knowledgeable and willing to help you find what you are looking for. They also have a stamp card system that allows you to get a free purchase after you buy a certain amount. Great place, highly recommend checking it out if you like having physical movies or music.

I don't generally use a gmail but opened one to give these guys an honest review. I brought my fathers record collection to the Turning Point yesterday. I wasn't exactly sure what they might be worth. The owner was very friendly and knowledgeable. He pointed out that dad had several valuable Jazz LP's and paid me quite fairly for them. Overall I was very impressed with their service and honesty. Looks like also buy used CD and movies.

If you have quality / interesting stuff to sell, these guys will treat you fairly. ;and pay cash!

A true hidden gem in Ottawa. Great selection of movies and music. They have a new arrival section that is always rotating new stock. I brought some used vinyl and movies in to sell and I was very pleased with their offer. Definitely worth giving this place a shot if you are into the classic used record shop vibe!

This place has got one of the best atmospheres around, staff is always helpful and chill.
Very knowledgeable in their area's and will answer questions you got.

Prices on records are always fairly priced, based off the value and quality. I've never had an issue with how much they charge with anything there.

I would recommend this place to anyone, they will gladly listen to what you have to say and try and make it right. One of my favorite places to go

Large selection with very fair prices. Most dvds, cds, blurays priced at $8-$10. Also a huge vinyl selection on the second floor. Definitely somewhere you need to budget a good hour to go through. I used to love to go to Chumleighs in the area, and I think it's safe to say this is my new downtown used media store. It's smells a little dusty (although visually quite clean), that's the only reason i deducted a star.

We frequent Turning Point nearly everyday when we are working downtown and their record selection is always an adventure. They always put out great deals in their front new arrival bin, but you need to be lucky to snag them up! They have an upstairs full of vinyl which is picked over but you may find the odd one you are looking for.

The store has an extensive CD and DVD collection as well with friendly staff on a whole who are willing to help you out. Nick makes this store tick and is great at dealing with the customers and treating you well.

The vinyl game here is hit or miss but thats what we like most about it, because if you do manage to find a record you want its usually priced fairly and you grab it. I have been at other places where I find what I'm looking for but I am not willing to pay the price once I did.

A hidden gem! The staff is awesome, the selection is excellent and the overall experience was wonderful. I came in looking for an obscure title that I could not find anywhere online or in other stores - I came into the Turning Point and had it in my hands in under 2 minutes. Highly recommended!

Great store for Vinyl, of all the places I've been this place easily has the best selection for reasonable prices, every time I go in I find something new to add to my collection.

Huge selection of vinyl, DVDs, CDs and bly-rays at fair prices (especially on the vinyl) and in fantastic condition. We picked up 6 CDs (metal), a record (Marvin Gaye) and 5 movies (to fill out our Halloween horror collection). Friendly and knowledgeable staff make browsing less overwhelming. We definitely recommend stopping in to browse and find those missing pieces.

My go-to for buying CDs, DVDs, and records. Their layout is expansive, covering two whole floors, and their inventory is extensive and very diverse, boasting a wide selection of comedies, classics, drama, horror, music, sci-fi and television series on DVD and Blu-Ray, and large sections dedicated to blues, jazz, rock, and vocal on CD and vinyl.

It's very rare that I come out empty-handed; even on those rare occasions when I haven't found what I was looking for, I ended up finding other treasures that I would never have expected to find. Probably the best thing about Turning Point is its very high turnover — I guess that's the point of the name. Interesting items come and go daily, so it certainly warrants a weekly visit: if you don't find what you want one day, there's a good chance it'll be there next time.

It's hard to praise this place enough. The service is always friendly and the employees knowledgeable. Their prices are consistently good. They have a very reasonable return policy that ensures that damaged products get replaced. Most importantly, they set themselves apart with a very good customer loyalty program: every purchase of $7.95 or over gets you 1 stamp, and for every 12 stamps, you get one free CD, DVD, or Blu-Ray priced $9.95 or under. Highly recommended.
