We had a regrettable experience dealing with a storage facility at 2275 Barton St E in Hamilton, Ontario.
It started from us renting a 10’x15’ storage unit on August 20,2023. No one informed us that this would be a “split” unit containing of two smaller units until we filled one of the units (10’x10’) and realized we don’t have enough space. We were informed that there is a second smaller unit (5’x10’) is part of this rental agreement. While that was an inconvenience, we were prepared to live with it. However, when we opened that unit to put our items, we noticed a pervasive and foul odor in the unit.
We reached out to the staff at the counter and was informed that we need to contact the facility manager. We called and left a voice mail to the manager, and after not receiving response, we emailed him on Wednesday September 6,2023. The lack of response was deeply disappointing, especially given our efforts to engage with the company in a constructive manner. After waiting for a few days and not getting a response, we approached a front counter again on September 10th, 2023.
We only asked to exchange a location of the small units as our larger units was already full and we would not be able to move our stuff ourselves and could not afford to pay movers. Front counter staff informed us that the only options available to us: move our stuff from both units to a different location; stay in the existing units, or move out of units. We explained that due to the health issues we are not able to move stuff ourselves, and cannot afford paying movers, and both alternative options would require us to go to external movers to complete this task. However, front counter staff refused to work out a solution for us constantly making reference to the ”system that would not allow us to switch only one unit”. We insisted to discussing this matter with the manager, who only confirmed that these are the only two options available to us as an alternative to stay in the existing units. We explained that due to our health issues we are not able to make this move ourselves; our plea to the manager to be compassionate and find a resolution left unanswered.
Our encounter with front counter staff on that day only exacerbated our frustration. The employee we interacted with was not only unprofessional but also displayed a complete lack of courtesy. They used phrases like "let me finish, " "you don't understand, " and "I know what I'm talking about, " and raised her voice during our conversation.
We’ve been a loyal customer of Uhaul for many years, and have never been treated this way before. We regret choosing this location for our storage needs.

Upon arrival, I was check-in and provided keys swiftly. However, I was never shown the vehicle that I was to be using nor was a walkthrough/inspection done before hand. Once I located the vehicle, it was boxed in by other vehicles so I had to go back into the office and ask a staff member to move the vehicles that were blocking me in. I personally took pictures of any damages to the vehicle so that I wouldn't come back to me.

Upon returning to the location to drop off the vehicle, I was never greeted by anyone. I waited in the vehicle in the return line. Other vehicles started to gather behind me as well. I waited in the vehicle for 15 minutes and didn't see a soul come out. I then started the return process on my phone in the vehicle. I left the vehicle in the line up and dropped the keys off in the after hours slot. I was left no choice. The person that arrived behind me did the same as well.

Overall, a very poor experience at this location, especially after having paid a lot to rent the vehicle for the day. I have never experienced this poor of service at any uhaul I have used across the region.

I’ve used u haul at different locations a quite a bit lately and they have all been very good. But this one is even better. The staff where more efficient and quicker to get me on the road. They also seemed happier then other locations. Kudos to them.

Clean and organized location. Staff is helpful and friendly. Reasonable and courteous at the Barton and Nash location

The attendant recommended the Ford Transit on the lot. It had less then 5000 km on it and was one of the best vans we have rented. It was much easier on gas then the GMs too.

Guaranteed lowest prices for any trailer rentals! And I would give a 5*!?

but unfortunately there don’t have any dump trailers or many flat bed options to choose from.definitely would benefit from having a more broad selection!

Other then that, if your in a rush and need something and aren’t worried about needing something bigger they are your best option!

DO NOT COME HERE FOR HITCH INSTALLATION - They damaged our car and then GHOSTED us. Repeated emails and phone calls to Management ignored with no response. The technicians are inexperienced, and will DAMAGE YOUR CAR. We will be pursuing litigation for the damage to our car. Dismal Customer service. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

I don’t know if this gonna help people, but me and my friend went to pick 26 ft truck, the manager (his name is Collin i guess) in the morning was dealing rude, like buddy if someone asking you questions, you gotta answer them, I think that’s the part of your job.
I told him we will return the truck today but he was kept saying no no you guys are lying blahh blahh.
Anyways the guy who collects our payments in the evening was to great to deal with.

Would be better if the cashier didn’t keep demeaning me by calling me “hun”. I’m sure she wouldn’t like it if I called her “babe” or something equivalent.

Yeah, it’s a minor thing, but that type of behaviour goes both ways.

Got there for pick up but they didn’t have the truck I needed Colin Weese upgraded me from a 15’ to 20’ no charge and threw in an extra couple Kms cause we’re moving quite the distance. Hit another few snags but Colin being a generous helpful guy assisted me in getting everything taken care! Have used this location many times and have never had anything but a great experience! Thank you Colin Weese and Uhaul for making this move as smooth as I could have imagined, all the best!

WE'RE FILING A FORMAL COMPLAINT AGAINST COLIN WEESE, the manager at the Barton/Nash (Hamilton, Ontario) uHaul location.

On Sunday, March 6th, we rented a cargo van for a few hours to move some boxes and bins. As usual, we parked our personal vehicle in the overflow parking lot on the west side of the building (Nash Rd). This parking lot is rarely used, as it is on the opposite side of the building’s entrance.

Hamilton was experience strong wind forces that day (100+ km/hr).

This uHaul building uses “fake” storage doors mounted on the outside, to market their indoor storage units.

Upon returning the cargo van rental, we noticed the two aluminum rails that were holding the “storage door” to the wall above our vehicle flapping wildly in the wind. The “door” was nowhere in site. We found the hardtop of our 2000 Jeep Sahara TJ was scratched and cracked. Fibreglass is not easy to repair.

We went inside to notify an employee (Daniel), and he promptly came outside to see the damage himself. Once we were back in the warehouse, he advised us that "although this is a concern for the manager who isn’t in today, I’ve notified him of the issue, and if you come back into tomorrow, he will be expecting you. I’m sure there won’t be an issue getting this sorted out. ” We thanked him for his time, and went on our way.

Yesterday, Monday March 7th, we returned to the uHaul to speak with the manager. At first he wasn’t in (picking up an employee for their shift), but we were asked to wait as he was expected back any minute. No problem, and we waiting in our Jeep. Less than 10 minutes later we were waived back inside to see the manager.

We waited a few minutes for him to finish his phone call, and once he was finished he asked “How can I help you? ” We asked if he was the manager, to which he replied in the most condescending voice I’ve ever heard “So you're the Jeep guy? Call your own insurance, it’s a no fault claim. ” And turned away from us.

Now, we understand we don’t drive a ’21 Benz or anything. We know our vehicle is older, and we understand that damages could have been a lot worse. Truthfully we weren’t really going to push a claim, knowing it was windy and the damage really couldn’t be avoided. But his attitude? His snide and snappy retort before we even had a chance to broach the subject? UNACCEPTABLE.

We fully expected something along the lines of “Very sorry this happened, but my hands are tied. ” We would have left it at that. But the way he immediately jumped down our throats with brisk and rude offence was uncalled for, and completely out of line.

Not only should he not be in customer service, but there is no way this guy should be managing a busy uHaul location.

BEWARE THE A$$HOLE!

I rented a truck, when I came to pick it, it was blocked by another trucks, and the store was closed at 5pm on Sunday.
They also charge meextra 25$ for cleaning but it was literally the same condition.
Not anymore Uhal' customer.

Don't leave the truck after hours. They will get you with $20 penalty. Always dropped off the car after hours so they have it in the morning but they started to charge this fee now. Rip off. Maybe the management changed. Tried talking to then how they can treat a person that rented there for decades. They don't seem to care. If not this is the feedback they get.

Rented a truck here. It smells like cigarettes inside. When I returned it, desk guy complains why the floor mat is dirty with dust or mud. Are you kidding me? No damage to the truck and clean all around and he's complaining about a "dirty" floor mat? Way to go for uhaul's customer service.

Most of the staff here have very bad personalities for a customer service driven industry, U-Haul offers a cheaper product than its competitors but all of my experiences have typically been the same in the past. Book a truck with all of my information online (most of the time to arrive to the wrong van type), arrive only to have to do it again, hear the attitude of majority of their workers and wait excessive wait times due to under-staffing. In the future I'll just pay the $30-50 to use another van line as the service is always substantially better.

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! BECAUSE OF STAFF THAT REALLY DON'T DO THEIR JOB MY FIANCE AND I WERE FINED 1500 FOR A HOLE IN THE CEILING THAT WAS THERE WHEN WE PICKED IT UP. AMBER SMITH DIDNT INSPECT THE UHAUL AFTER THE LAST FAMILY BROUGHT IT BACK. SO BECAUSE AMBER SMITH DIDN'T INSPECT IT THE BLAME HAS TO BE ON SOMEONE. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LOCATION.

The representative that was placing the trailer into my vehicle hit the car with it and didn't even say a word. There was some minor scratches.
The equipment was dirty, chains rusted and for some reason the hitch would not get tight enough.
Overall I will definitely not be recommending them nor visiting again.

I needed a truck to pick up my new sofa bed
I rented a GMC Sierra
The car was clean
The employee was friendly
It was a quick service
Price was not bad
Just take care of the gas when you get the car back

Can't put into words how horrible they are, probably never renting a Uhaul again because of the way I was treated just simply trying to rent a trailer.

Wonderful!
Used their storage for a while (CLEAN! NO RODENTS!)
Used their trailers many times (various types and sizes) never had an issue.

Friendly, polite and very knowledgeable and helpful staff!

TERRIBLE service. Picking my trailer up was
Scheduled for Monday at 9 am from Barton st.
Hamilton.confirmation # was issued!
Before picking up I’ve called them just to make sure all is OK.
And found that they changed pick up location
from Barton Str Hamilton to Culve Str Simcoe! It’s 70 km away.
NO Body called me to inform!
I’m disappointed.

Can’t give 0 that’s why giving the 1, the worse rental company ever. From their head office to this location they need to learn customer service. They have no manner and they are rude. Discount or enterprise are 1000 times better than them. No wonder why uhaul have all their trucks parked in the lots and other companies get sold out,
