Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Bad food, bad customer service, bad atmosphere. Couldn’t even complete a whole dosa because of bad potato filling inside and servers were utterly rude with no manners.
This restaurant deserves 5+ stars. I been going to this store since a child with my family, and it is the best place for good quality vegetarian food. Every time I come here I always buy chana masala and chapathi. It is absolutely a delicious curry that makes me want to go back all the time. Parking is hard to find at times, but otherwise, I always have a good experience at Udupi.
Not worth the hype! Okay for south Indian food. Never ever try non-south indian food. I ordered a pani-puri and I swear I have never ate such a pathetic pani-puri.
Very much the meal we had in mind when we visited this place to satisfy a craving for food from our home in India.authentic flavours, freshly prepared with plenty of space around us meant we were very comfortable and thoroughly enjoyed our meal!
Tried the ghee paper dosa. It was not hot when I received it even though I live just 1 km away from this restaurant. Dosa and Sambhar were not bad (Average. Nothing special about them) Chutney had a horrible taste. Not at all authentic when compared to similar restaurants in India
I visited this place recently and when we went the place was very clean and quiet, We ordered Poori Bhaji, Ghee Paper Masala Dosa and Onion & Hot Chilli Uthapam. Service was very quick and the food was good. The only thing I would say is that I did not like their Sambhar as it tasted a bit sweet like Gujarati Daal.
Only thing good was there is service. But I will give food -5 rating. They gave us stale vada any one can tell that smell very bad. I think they should try different restaurants for South Indian food. Then see what they are serving. People gave them 5 star may they don’t know what they are eating
Best South Indian vegetarian food in the neighbourhood. I usually order a masala dosa which is accompanied with sambar and chutney. Must try for those who crave delicious healthy vegetarian food.
Loved it there. All vegetarian food and fast service. Portions and price is very respectable. I recommend this place to any one who is in doubt to visit or not.
Had a wonderful time here. The place has an authentic Indian ambience. The food was great too. We tried the pav bhaji dosa which easily was one of our favorites. If you are a fan of spicy food and love pav bhaji, then it's a must try. Apart from that the masala and mysore dosa were good too. However the spring dosa was the most disappointing. Manchurian Idli deserves 5 star too.
The servers were really helpful and accommodating. It's a must try if you are looking for good south indian food.
- Found hair in sambar the biggest mistake any restaurant could commit - on top of it no apology just replied "okay you can go " - p.s this is not udupi restaurant. This is not udupi flavours feels like.they are making a fool of you.
-No salt in the potato inside dosa all bland flavour profile - paneer dosa no salt again and countered with we use less salt like seriously.
I liked it very much and true to its name, you’ll get to eat authentic udupi style vegetarian food. Love their sugarless tea and dosa varieties. Appreciate your efforts in keeping steel cutlery and ceramic tea cups. Don’t even think about getting cheap plastic cutlery like others.
Service was great but the food quality had changed drastically. We ordered pani Puri, dahi vada, Mysore masala dosa, puri baji and chapathi dhaal. Pani Puri was disappointing as it was not fresh, there were only potatoes inside the puris. All the other items that we got were just average, taste wise. Quality of food from here used to be much better.
Very clean and reasonably priced. The decor is dated, but I don't care because it is obvious the effort is expended in the food. My favorite dosa place in all the world. Excellent selection of vegetarian food. I look forward to going back soon.
Whenever at Gerrard, Indian town can’t skip or miss eating at Udupi’s. As usual ordered the Masala Dosa and a Salty Lassi. The potatoes inside the Dosa were delicious however found the Dosa missing the fermentation taste, soft and not as crispy! Voiced my concern and bingo they brought me a perfect crispy dosa! The Lassi was ok, nothing special but it was a good drink for a hot day! My hubby ordered the Spicy Vegetable Curry (#71 on menu) with a Tandoori Naan. It was ever delicious, so good that my husband ordered a 2nd to bring home for dinner! Ended it with a strong cup of chai, made perfectly, relaxing and refreshing. What we appreciated most was that the Head Chef came over to apologize for the delay in my hubby’s order. All other staff were very friendly, nor did they mind the comment on Masala Dosa (the xtra crispy dosa was on the house) A great memorable Saturday, Gerrad brings back beautiful memories of home, India
Do yourself a favor and eat across the street in another restaurant. The food is is greasy and gross. The puri is thicker than naan. Dosa was full of water, grosss! The kachori was days old. Needless to say never going there again. We will rather eat cat food instead of this.
Went today to Udupi Palace with my kid for the first time and our experience was nice. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Will come here again and again.
The phav bhaji and spiced potato dosas were amazing. The Chana bhutara and paneer tikka tasted delicious too. Can't wait to try other dishes in the future!
The chola batura is really good and I enjoyed the idli and wada. Hoping they work more on their chutney, it is really expensive to make fresh coconut chutney but they should try to add tomato chutney instead
We love going out. Yesterday we went to this magnificent place which friends recommended to us. We enjoyed a beautiful evening there with fine dishes and a courteous crew and a talented cook. We added this venue in our list and we shall surely return very soon. We warmly recommend.
I like this restaurant! They offer awesome dishes, their menu is nice, The chef in that place is well trained, I enjoy very much tasting all their food. The food is consistently good, the attitude towards the customers is good. I visit often this restaurant and I was never unsatisfied. I recommend it to all.
It’s cheap for a reason but there are nice touches like raw onion and lemon. The vegan choice is huge and many items can be made gluten free.
The dosa was thick and chewy instead of paper thin. The saag aloo seemed old and with an undesirable flavour. The Dahl was ok. The sambar was good for dipping.
I got 5 dishes delivered for under $40 but none of it was very satisfying unfortunately. 3 stars for the fresh onion and lemon.
This place probably serves the best South Indian food I’ve had so far. Must try their paneer dosa and mysore masala dosa. Not only this, the appetizers are also really good specially pani puri. I’m coming again!
One star coz of service.there will be five waiters looking at you entering but probably not even one would approach you.so disorganised when the crowd gets even medium.the cashier man will come and ask you wat u want without even bothering to give you menu card.shows they take customers for granted or business is too much and I don't care. When you order thali meal order poori instead of chapati coz their poori is nice and roti sucks. Something also is seriously wrong with their idles. I dono what. Meal comes with very little rice.be prepared for extra rice if you are hungry.taste of gravy with, eat is great.
The washrooms are not clean, the seating is awful, the food compared to other South Indian restaurants is terrible. They are charging a lot of money for sub par food!
Nice spot to have dosa on Gerard (little india). The chaat papri and idli manchurian we’re out of this world. The spring dosa was amazing, however the only issue is don’t order their rava onion dosa, as it wasn’t really good.it felt like rubber meeting flour.
Food is average and service is poor. Only thing going for it is that the prices are reasonable and you'll always find seating as it's empty most of the time!
Authentic South Indian vegetarian food. Vegan & gluten free dishes are available. This is a place to go to for the prototypical South Indian dishes such as dosas (in a dozen varieties) and uthappam. Modestly priced. The ambiance is like that in a cafeteria although all dishes are served at your table.
Their Samber is basically water. The masala dosa have basically boiled mashed potatoes. We were regularly picking up food to go here now very disppointed.
My girlfriend and I ordered out from this place. It took them an hour an a half to deliver the food on a weekday afternoon. They didn't remember to bring us one of the items that we had ordered. The items that they did bring were very small portions considering each dish was over $10 each. The taste disappointing as well. We didn't bother calling them back about our missing item because of the poor quality of the food they did bring. And we obviously didn't want to wait another hour and a half for one item. Ultimately it was a waste of $50 dollars, and we won't be giving them our business again. Luckily there are a lot of good businesses all around this neighbourhood.
Yes it’s definitely the best place for South Indian food in TORONTO, that is DOSA. I would still prefer GURU LAKSHMI over this but only if I want to travel that far (I live In downtown so).
The owner and staff are really friendly and polite. I had one of the best time here where food was served pretty quick. If you want to try INDIAN TEA, this place serves a nice one.
You must try the PANEER CHILLI, which is my escape. Place is clean and can handle large group of people. There is unexpectedly a small place for children to play and have fun.
The food was good! However was not very happy with the service. They should know to treat customers a bit more politely! Got a rude response on asking if a certain item was available.
Not best place to eat vegetarian food in Toronto. Service is very poor when busy long wait times. Food taste is average. I would prefer to go somewhere else for the price they charge
Thank you Hubert & Udupi Team for coming for Talsania Family House Warming Function, Your arrangement & your Tasty Food. Good Food, Affordable price and Excellent Catering service.
This place has been around forever and I love their food and service. It is an unassuming basement restaurant in Gerrard India Bazaar serving up vegetarian/vegan and mostly gluten free food from South India, more specifically from Udipi. While their food in general is great, Channa Bhatura is our personal favourite, my 4-year-old loves it and I highly recommend you try it! They also offer catering and their food has never disappointed us.
Great food! We had the appetizer platter, samosas, channa masala and paneer mahkni. Really enjoyed the tamarind dipping sauce, the mint chutney was pleasantly spicy, wasn't a fan of the curdled yogurt dip and the daal was great. The portions we're hefty and the price point was spot on! We had a great time and will definitely visit again!
Nice restaurant. Very economical and tasty. Most of the dishes are priced Right. Good selection from North and South Indian delicacies. Owner is also very friendly. Will certainly recommend and probably go again.
