Received permanent nerve damage from this place for a tooth extraction procedure. Find somewhere else to serve your dental needs.

Terrible place to go to. The treatment is poor quality and they only want your money. Avoid at all costs!

Could not be more disappointed with my experience here. I received braces from Dr. Erwood, and it took me 4 years to get them off. Metal brackets weren't properly glued on, and so visiting the dentist became a weekly thing since they would fall off so often. Erwood's customer service was unpleasant and impersonal and all he saw were dollar signs. Whenever he conducted his procedures he was rough and showed no remorse for the pain he was causing his patient. Hence, many of my friends and family terminated their services here. As soon as my braces did come off one of the hygienists, Sidney, didn't put an adequate amount of glue to adhere my permanent retainer to my bottom set of teeth. The following day, half of my retainer came off. Next thing I know my lower teeth shifted and I've got permanent gum damage to some of my lower teeth. The only way I can fix it is through surgery. No way I'm going through more sunken costs. Moral: don't waste your money on a place that puts profit before people.

Had my wisdom teeth taken out years ago by him when I was 17, and I'm still traumatized to this day. Consent was not properly taken, alternatives weren't explained well, especially given my age, and he just went ahead with it, and it end up costing my parents >$2K. The next year I went to university, I found out with my student coverage, it would have been just been $100 at the school dentist. My new dentist also found a large root-tip he left from the extraction. Would not recommend at all.

I wouldn't say the procedure was poor though, anesthesia was smooth, no complications, healed nicely, post-op instructions were good. But I see that he does it with a lot of patients, that he just sees patients as green billable procedures.

I left Dr. Erwood's practice after seeking a second opinion regarding a toothache that was caused by Dr. Erwood's suggestion to redo a filling that was only a few years old. Without an x-ray or any diagnostics to check the new toothache issue, Dr. Erwood concluded that I needed a root canal procedure a week after the new filling problem occured when it was just a matter of incorrect bite alignment due to an elevated point of contact from the new filling. During the visit, I repeatedly asked if there are less extreme procedures to try first in case it was not an infection and I even questioned if he could actually see an infection without any x-rays. He responded that it has to be an infection to the root. After I asked him to even out the filling again to test the bite, the pain immediately went away. He then proceeded to stress test the tooth with a dental mallet (a small dental hammer) hoping to prove to me I have an infected root or decaying tooth. After failing to show me I needed a root canal, I left his practice shocked and disturbed.

The second opinion also disproved everything Dr. Erwood suggested as an x-ray was done and showed no signs of infection requiring a root canal. The toothache was from Dr. Erwood's quick procedure which had to be corrected by the other dentist.

While there are patients who are happy with Dr. Erwood, and I was definitely one of them before, the way Dr. Erwood handled my case was wrong and unprofessional. A dentist must be honest, careful, thorough and skilled as we only have one set of teeth. To be clear, this review is not to suggest Dr. Erwood is not a competent dentist. Dentists are human, they make mistakes. This review is to remind patients that they too have a say in their health care procedures and should be informed.

Apart from that experience, the clinic's dental hygienists and front end staff are exceptional.

I am writing on behalf of Jimmy Jamal who is a client at Unionville Gate Family Dentists. He recently had dental work completed by Dr. Ian Ernwood and was very pleased with his services and would recommend him.

Dr. Ian Erwood and the rest of his dental staff were knowledgeable, friendly and highly professional. Dealing with them as well as Judy and the rest of the admin team made my 9 month long Invisalign experience a flawless one. They kept me informed every step of the way! 100% would recommend! They are the real deal!

I'm so glad I was referred to Dr. Erwood. Seeing my condition, he spent a generous amount of time explaining and strategizing with me. I knew the process A - Z as well as the cost and then we rolled out the plan over the next year. Precision dentist who garners confidence. The support staff and administrators are top-shelf. Can't say enough about them. Highly recommended.

I have been seeing Dr Rendely for more than 20 years. An amazing dentist. The clinic also has a very friendly vibe.

I have been going to Dr. Erwood for years. I am very nervous at the dentist and insist on gas prior to injections. He waits patiently until the gas is working. I have found him to be thorough and very good in his dental skills. Over the past year he did a number of implants on my lower jaw. He made sure I had medication for pain and antibiotics. He called me in the evening to make sure I was ok. I found him to be gentle during the procedure and asking often if I was ok. Although the procedures were expensive he helped to make it easier for me to pay. It is very obvious that this man loves being a dentist.
He seems to be up to date on his skills. I wouldn't go to anyone else. Over the years he did whatever he could to save my teeth until such a time that we both decided it was time for some implants.
I must also say his staff is wonderful. They are all kind and helpful. It is always a pleasure (if you can call going to the dentist a pleasure) to be there.
Thank you to all of you for making visits to the dentist a good experience

Dr Ian is a very good teacher, i was part of the lucky few dental students who could learn dental implants hands on chair-side training, unlike any other course. Thanks a lot Dr Ian.

I was one of unfortunate patients of Dr. Ian Erwood from the Unionville Gate Family Dentists as he performed osseous graft and sinus lift in Feb. 2018. At the consultation before the procedure he neglected to tell me that he would not submit a predetermination of insurance benefits before the surgery, so that I know early enough if the procedure is covered. He had not discussed any details of the coverage paperwork. He also refused to consider my opinion on prophylactic antibiotic use for my specific case and prescribed 2 types of antibiotics, corticosteroids and OTC anti-inflammatory drug none of which I ended up using. He was quite rough during the surgery and rushed through it; the shots were very painful. His assistant had teared left corner of my lips while holding it during the surgery.

As the insurance rejected the claim for sinus lift, they preapproved coverage for osseous graft to 100%. Since Dr. Erwood failed to include osseous graft into the claim I ended up paying thousands for the procedure. During the post-operative consultation he lied to me that osseous graft charge was a discount which had never been documented as such or discussed with me prior to the surgery. It also had not been mentioned in the claim even though he performed it. If it had or I was made aware of the full amount including the graft and available options I would not have agreed to be his patient in the first place and would find a professional and competent dentist instead.

Needless to say, this was my first and last experience with him and none of my friends or family will ever be visiting his office.

The lady dentist is great. She's patient and cares about your comfort. I can't say the same about the male dentist. It's quite apparent he just wants to do what he needs for you to be on your way.

Two stars because the lady dentist only works on weekdays and because i regrettably chose to go here on the weekend when only the male doctor was available. When working on my worn down filling, he ground my tooth to the point that I could smell the enamel and composite dust. My tooth has also been aching enough to cause headaches for over a week after the procedure.
