Amazing place to see a great show! Staff are soo friendly and amazing service. Also a really inclusive space and has a cool vibe. Would recommend!

Surprisingly, great sound quality. Visited this venue for a concert. It has limited visibility of the stage from some angles, though.
03 August 2023 10:42
I almost passed out during the cat burns concert and the manager offered me water, a drink and chips. As someone with a chronic illness I wish everyone would be this caring and understanding
01 August 2023 17:52
Saw "Say Sue Me" a sensational Korean band.
VU is a great venue for live music, small intimate and is an "I was there. " kind of place. Please note it is a cashless bar. Only down side.lighting crew.please use less red.

This is one of those quaint venues that reminds you of a time when Toronto took things a bit slower. A rewind in time, The Velvet Underground is a venue space with a bar near to the door, the stage at the back of the room, and a split space for viewing. The room is low-lit and does get a little hot once it's crowded, but the cozy atmosphere is refreshing. Staff were accommodating and very friendly. The staff that was working behind the coat check was so nice and worked through the crowd efficiently so that everyone was able to get situated before the show started. I didn't have a chance to use the washrooms, but they appeared to be on the lower level, though I may be wrong. Great venue, great show, and the crowd really had fun! (Also check out Finish Ticket, the band's photos I posted. They're awesome!)

Great and iconic venue! Saw a couple of pretty well know bands here and the feeling is as if they are playing for you and your friends in your own basement - intimate and up close
06 February 2023 14:40
We had a great time seeing The Longest Johns on 11/25/22. Great show, great crowd and great venue! We drove from Columbus Ohio to attend this concert!
20 January 2023 19:45
A bit small of a space to have large concerts with mosh pits, but overall saw a great show here! The staff were very friendly as well!
11 January 2023 12:24
Bartenders were efficient and polite security was handled well and the sound and lighting quality for the performers was decent. It's pretty much standing only so if you're short like I am I recommend getting up on the back platform.
03 January 2023 5:41
Had a good experience. Seemed like a well run event. Bartenders were friendly. Security was personable. Everyone acted like a normal decent human.
02 January 2023 20:44
Took my kids to Grent Perez show last week.
Kids had a blast. I was able to sit on the side while the packed crowd stood and jumped around. It got warm but they had fans running. Met the GM, Alex and he's a cool guy. Staff was very polite and helpful
Kudos to all at the club.

The low ends overwhelm everything here. Every show i seen since live nation took over it worse than the last
31 December 2022 3:14
Worst venue ever, unless you're at the front row you won't see anything and if you are at the front your knees will take a thrashing from getting pushed the entire time, if it wasn't for seeing D. R. I.there I would have left it was so bad.
17 December 2022 12:41
This is the cleanest venue I have ever been to. The toilets were literally spotless all night long and the bartenders kept the bar in great condition
12 December 2022 4:08
I just saw The Softer Moon here and after the show the setlist was left in the middle of the stage. I nicely asked the security guard near the stage if I could have it and his said "that won't be possible. " I said it was just garbage now and he just kept rudely shaking his head. So I gave up and started doing up my jacket. As I was just finishing up he almost started pushing me by moving into my space telling me/the room "it was time to start leaving" like dude, calm down. Guy thinks he's some big shot trying to literally push around someone 5'2.
20 November 2022 10:36
Attended a concert here. Lining up experience could have been better managed / signed but the venue was nice. Sound was amazing and security was helpful. Concert lighting was incredible and so were effects. A cozy venue that had the potential for a fantastic vibe when the music is right.
02 November 2022 10:21
Saw my favourite band play here not long ago. It was great to see them up close because of how small the venue is. Bar service was on point. The bathrooms could use some attention as there is little to no privacy. Security blew it. There were people enjoying their night, crowd surfing, and security didn't care for anyone's safety. The band actually had to stop, mid set, to tell them to do something.
24 October 2022 20:00
Overkill on entry. Sightlines are restricted. Sound is good for a brick walled box. Too bad bar is commercial.
24 October 2022 6:51
An intimate and smaller venue, so you might get a chance to talk to the artists and get a photo with them! And theyll come up close to the crowd:) Good drink selection too. I saw someone with a wheelchair getting accomodated so hats off for that. Security at the front also hands out water bottles if you ask nicely! Stage isn't too high up so ppl chilling at the back might have a harder time to get a glimpse, and security might block certain angles especially on the rightmost side, but what can ya do they're just doing their job
18 September 2022 8:55
My first time back since 2017, and the venue has improved a lot. It is a very intimate space and the staff are nice. However, some of the stairs are too dark to walk on safely, and the sound is actually too intense. They sell ear plugs for a reason… I am a frequent concertgoer and have never suffered hearing loss for up to 48hr after a show before. Not trying to be difficult, but with it being a small venue, the sound could definitely be lowered a bit and be more enjoyable. I will never come here without earplugs again.
06 January 2022 1:48
I visited this place after many years and it was still great, it was our first kinda concert after covid and it felt so good, bands were also amazing
21 December 2021 3:41
Came here for the Sara Kays concert, it's a cute venue. I hope to see more shows here in the future
16 December 2021 3:26
Nice place for underground metal concerts, not huge but you know only the people that truly love that specific artist will go to that specific show, so you can have more fun meeting people who loves the same band. Btw I went there to enjoy the show of Swallow the Sun. Absolutely amazing, they killed it!
29 November 2021 13:02
Good music venue, not big so it feels very intimate, very nice security at the door and friendly bartenders. All in all a very good atmosphere, will definitely come again for more concerts and live performances here.
23 October 2021 17:54
First concert I've seen in 2 years. Seated but needed to go. Amazing and great to see old friends and meet new bands!
24 April 2020 16:36
Lights are good, small, bar tenders are nice, small coat check, bathrooms are a tad small for the size of the venue, music was fantastic, venue is 5/5 stars
18 March 2020 1:36
A great smaller live music venue in Toronto with a capacity of around170 people. There are 2 bar and ample sitting room. The staff was polite and friendly. The sound system is pretty pretty load and clear without much distortion. The bathroom is on the small side but there was never any line-ups. This is a Legendary Toronto live music venue that everyone should visit once.
15 March 2020 12:02
Audio was kind of bad, the guitar and drums overpowered the artists' voices. Venue is clean and nicely organized with coat check and bathrooms in the basement.
11 March 2020 7:55
Small venue but I go here for EDM shows. Bartenders and security are super humble and they do their job professionally! This place is amazing and I’ll definitely come back:)
10 March 2020 13:22
They have a couch you can sit on towards the back. If it's not too packed you can see the stage from it. If its packed you need to stand and move up a bit.
21 February 2020 5:36
Well layed out venue. Friendly staff. Would recommend to see bands or rappers there. Sound isn't quite built right for DJ nights.
20 February 2020 23:30
Saw one of my favourite rock bands here and the sound quality was pretty bad. So loud that the guitar, bass, vocals, and drums all melded into one monotonous roar so you couldn't even hear the melody. I've seen this band at several other venues and they never sounded like this. The band even stopped after one of their songs to tell the sound guy it was too loud, but he just gave a thumbs up and didn't do anything. Nothing annoys me more than a venue that makes a good band sound bad. Some people started moving to the back. I even saw one diehard fan rocking out near the front with both hands covering his ears. Either way, I've been to a ton of rock shows, but this has got to be the longest my ears have continued ringing after a concert. Other than the sound it's a decent place. Staff were all very friendly.

I’ve been to more than my fair share of venues in this city and I have to say that last night blew me out of the water. Everyone who worked there were incredible, from coat check to the bartenders and the promoters. I’ve never been to a club who’s offered to pour me a glass of water when I asked for one vs.insisting I purchase a bottle. Seems like a small gesture but for Toronto this is actually very niche.
But what really blew my mind was the security staff- I watched them handle several different cases of problematic and/or intoxicated guests and their responses to them were very compassionate and focused solely on safety. No rough-housing, no fear mongering. They gave out some water bottles to those having a tough time, ensured friends of the guest were present before kicking them out, asked insightful questions, and could even describe the people who went in the Uber home with someone who was kicked out. These guys work hard to keep these parties fun for everyone.
I spoke with Chris at the end to ensure he knew what a great job they did but I was so impressed that I had to inform the internet as well.
19 January 2020 22:21
Anytime you watch a hip hop show it never goes smoothly. The artist always ends up arguing with the staff over start times or curfew. It's a great venue to see up and coming artist but I don't think they respect the hip hop artist/ crowds.
19 January 2020 17:31
Just left the Mac Ayres concert, what an amazing show, the venue was super intimate yet still roomy, audio booms!
Staff were all very pleasant too.
Can't wait to see another show there again.
09 January 2020 15:37
Went to see a concert there, the place is bigger than it looks. Great seatings, looks proper and professional. Drinks are on the pricy side but it is what it is.
07 January 2020 16:20
Saw Drab Majesty and the sound quality was absolutely horrendous. Couldn't stand to stay for the whole show. One of the poorest concert experiences I've ever had.
07 January 2020 0:40
Say Mac Ayers the other day. Sounded pretty good even from far back. Wish the turned up the keys a bit more in the mix.
26 December 2019 13:24
One of the better live venues still standing in this venue killing ciry. After their remodeling, a few years ago with a new lighting and sound system, it's one of the premium 300-400 cap rooms to see up and coming acts.
01 December 2019 8:45
Love this place! But someone stole my passport here yesterday. Now I'm in big trouble.

Update: so because of this incident now I'm settle in Canada)
27 November 2019 13:36
A great venue to check out whoever is playing. The sound is good, not too overpowering and its very chill. They have a decent beer selection although everything is on the higher end of the price range.
14 November 2019 3:42
They cut off the performer right at 11pm. They didn't even give him a chance to say bye to the crowd.
05 November 2019 14:40
Small but anywhere can be a good spot to see a live act. I have seen a few shows and found the venue ideal.
28 October 2019 6:00
The concert performance was a 10/10 (Tobi Lou) but they actually cut him off and turned off his mic the minute his time was up. He ended up having to skip more than 5 songs from his set. Had the performer not been so visibly upset I would not have written the review but it felt incredibly disrespectful especially since the venue must have made a decent amount off of the fans buying drinks the entire evening.
23 September 2019 15:45
Amazing, personal venue with friendly staff and quality acts. If you like to be 2 feet away from your favorite band, pray they play here.
17 September 2019 16:08
Staff is great. They held on to my janky water bottle all night and remembered it was mine at the end of the show. Definitely one of my favourite all ages venues:)
25 August 2019 17:31
Came here to see the marias, the bouncers were very organized and its a great place for indie bands to play
22 July 2019 10:30
Very cramped. Long and narrow so it can be difficult to see the stage if you arrive late. Stage appears a bit small with limited viewing angles. No easy or cheap parking nearby.
20 July 2019 20:32
Great concert venue, historically significant to Toronto and has served as a rock scene for the city for decades. Pricy drinks but that's a given at most venues anyway.
06 July 2019 16:08
This is one of the best small venue concert places! The drink prices here are reasonable unlike some of the slightly larger venues and they generally have decent sound despite being kinda small. It is super fun to see a great band that up close and personal. Hope this places stays for the long haul!
23 June 2019 5:17
Small intimate venue with good drink prices when compared to other Toronto venues ($8 mixed drink). The washrooms are downstairs which isn't great. The sound system is good, loud, and clear. A good venue for a nice close-up view of the band as the stage isn't too high.
11 May 2019 8:29
This venue is amazing for shows. Sound system rocks and the sound tech guy did an unreal job. You'll want to be up close though as venue is very narrow and long.
02 May 2019 12:55
Overused for events that should be held on much bigger venues. Sounds isn't bad but nothing to write home about. Bathrooms are some of the grossest I've seen at a venue
Overall one of the worst popular venues in Toronto
01 May 2019 20:47
The venue was great for smaller shows and the sound was pretty good. Beer prices were pretty standard around 8-9 for tallboys. The men's washroom can backup with only 3 urinals and one stall, but otherwise clean.
07 April 2019 9:19
Nice little dive concert venue with some interesting lineups and a great location in Queen west. Have seen some really crazy hardcore shows there as well as Joji recently. Drinks are overpriced as with all concert venues, but you can just go to tequila bookworm next door or Java cafe down the street for cheap drinks.
25 March 2019 16:12
Velvet underground is a truly great club. Good ventilation and sound, I love the staff, coat check is fast, and Velvet hosts my favorite DJ's for the lowest price around. Because Rebel costs 4x the price, Velvet is my favorite club in Toronto.
12 March 2019 8:21
I love small, intimate venues like this! My only issue with this place is when people always come in and out from backstage and push through the crowd. Try not standing to the far right next to that door if you don't want to get pushed all the time
