They changed the hotel name to Katha, and strangely changed the alacarte menu to 8 course meal (you dont get to choose), and per person cost is 100 CAD. Are you kidding. Generally 50-80 CAD for 2 people was a normal bill, but the new system is worse almost 500 for a party of 4. Food was also pretty average.

Even dinner at CN tower wont cost as much as here.

Booked a reservation with them last week for our anniversary and they then called the day of, an hour before our reservation, informing us they decided to close the restaurant for that week. Completely unprofessional, incompetent, and rude. Don't waste your time here

I feel like this is what Indian food is truly supposed to be. They go off a traditional menu and go straight to regions. Amazing staff, amazing meal.

We were searching for Indian food in the city and came across this restaurant. We ordered Hyderabadi naan, Methi Roti, Handi, Paneer lababdar, veg lollipops, jaljeera mojito, thair sadam. Our hostess was great. 5/5 for her service.
Food was very oily. Menu was just printed paper.
*This place is not for vegetarians*
Jaljeera mojito - 5/5
Paneer Lababdar - 2/5
Handi - 1/5
Naan - 3/5
Thair Sadam - 2/5
Methi roti - 5/5
Veg lollipops - 3/5

Ambience is average, food is very pricey for the quality.

Food was so authentic, I went and asked to speak to the chef! The chicken curry was on point the naan was amazing had it with a nice glass of wine. Ordered some raita to add to the fun. I genuinely forgot I came there in a bad mood by the time I was done with my meal.

Had a great dinner experience. Tried Drums of Heaven, Paneer Tikka, Kadhai Chicken with Parotta, Chicken Biryani and Shahi Tukda. All tasted amazing! Would definitely go back again

The best and never ceases to surprise, although the prices may scare some Indians away this place wasn't made for the butter chicken and naan crowd. Go here for an experience of a lifetime.

A Delight with Room for Improvement

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Vivaan and I must say, the food was undeniably delicious. Each dish was a masterpiece, leaving my taste buds delighted and my palate craving for more. The chef's artistry in crafting such delectable flavors truly impressed me.

However, I must admit that I couldn't help but notice the portion sizes, which were disappointingly small, especially considering the price charged. As a customer, I completely understand that the economy is tough right now, and expenses are on the rise, including in the food industry. Nevertheless, I believe that it's essential for restaurants to find a balance between quality and quantity.

I recognize the craftsmanship and premium ingredients used in each dish, and I do acknowledge the higher costs associated with maintaining such standards. Still, the restaurant has the potential to attract even more customers by addressing the portion sizes. Increasing the quantity of the dishes could provide a more satisfying dining experience, ensuring that guests leave both delighted and content.

While I thoroughly enjoyed the exceptional flavors and presentation, the limited quantity left me feeling unsatisfied, and that detracted from the overall experience. For customers like me, the balance between taste and portion size is crucial in determining whether we will return.

I genuinely believe that if Vivaan considers adjusting their portion sizes to better match the prices charged, they have a golden opportunity to succeed even more. The exceptional quality of their food has the potential to attract a loyal customer base, especially during these challenging economic times when diners seek value for their money.

In conclusion, I want to emphasize that my dining experience at Vivaan was delightful, and the food's taste was beyond exceptional. However, I hope that they take into consideration the importance of portion sizes and their correlation with the prices charged. Striking the right balance will undoubtedly pave the way for greater success and a higher number of satisfied and returning customers.

I genuinely wish Vivaan all the best and hope to see positive changes in the future, as it would be an absolute pleasure to return and indulge in their extraordinary culinary creations once more.

We ordered for plain dosa for kids and they gave masala dosa, when we said to receptionist why masal dosa was given even we asked for plain dosa she took that away and said she will ask shelf to make plain dosa!
when they made plain dosa gave after 20 minutes. Which was already took long time for masala dosa and another 15 to 20 minutes wait made it worse and when we asked to make repeat dosa before 2nd was half left, We have been told after long wait that dosa is not sticking to skillet and they started other people's order.
Sambar was not sambar taste!
Every dish is filled with peanuts even coconut chutney has no coconuts
It's good for people who really doesn't know Indian food taste

Tried veg lollipop as starter, it was presented really nice and taste was good as well. Then had the onion kulcha, methi roti and mushroom kodava. The mushroom kodava was really good with the coconut base. The highlight of the place is the shahi tukda, it's a must try in this place. It was so light, crunchy and mildly sweet.

Vivaan is my favorite Indian restaurant in Ottawa. The service is friendly, and the staff is accommodating. As someone who visits Ottawa regularly, I make sure to dine at Vivaan each time I'm in town. They have a diverse menu with delicious dishes, both spicy and mild. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, perfect for a great dining experience with friends or family. Overall, Vivaan is a gem among Indian restaurants in Ottawa, and it's a must-visit if you're in the area.

It was my first time visiting vivaan and I had a great time. The food was really delicious and the menu has fusion items which makes them really interesting and tastes good. Great ambience and open kitchen. Prices were a bit high end

The only complaint I have is the price but the quality of the food was top notch. We had 4 items dal makhini, paneer tandoori starter, paneer lababdar and butter naan.

Excellent Indian Food. Absolutely worth coming here. The open kitchen is awesome because you get to smell all the amazing flavours throughout the restaurant

If food alone is what you are chasing then you will not be disappointed here. We tried and chicken Vindaloo and masala Dosa with a side of Dhal. Food was great.

The atmosphere however has its challenges. We parked across the street and you can smell the aroma. Main reason being this restaurant has an open kitchen concept. As you may be aware Indian food can be quite aromatic. Having an open kitchen in an indian restaurant to me is not the greatest of concepts. There needs to be a purpose for open concept kitchens and I didn’t see one here. All this did was make the whole restaurant quite aromatic even in the dining area. To me this was over kill.

Not too many choices of beer. Hard liquor had variety

Severs we’re friendly and knowledgeable.

Everything was phenomenal! Thank you for the amazing food, drinks, service. It is our new favourite spot in Ottawa!

The Pani Puri was yum!

The rogan josh would have been perfect, just slightly salty and spicy.

For some reason, I expected the bread to be cooked in a tandoor. I saw the staff baking them in the oven and then pan-frying them. I could have cooked the bread at home; not sure if Indian restaurants in Ottawa use a tandoor to bake bread.

Our server could have done better by asking about spice levels for the main meat dish. She was super distracted for some reason. (the tall lady)

The restaurant feels stuffy cause of the open kitchen.

I believe the service is a hit or a miss based on the other reviews. However, they put a lot of effort into plating the food—5 stars for the plating.

Love this place, have been twice and both times delicious. I love the chicken biryani and have also really enjoyed all the curries I've tried like Nizami Vegetables Handi (mixed vegetables) and Dal Makhani (black lentils).
