Worst customer service I ever received. Spoke to the owner himself. He was so terrible to deal with. Good food I always order from them almost daily but when an issue occurred just once and I brought it up, instead of making it right, they were terrible. Very unbecoming. I loved this place and ordered tons, but I really felt just set aside and ignored when there was an issue with my order. Need better customer service and making things right.
The worstt place you can go have your breakfast and the person standing there as a cashier at the counter, who takes order the bald guy is very rude. Even though the other staff who are preparing, the order is really good but still that one guy makes it a really bad experience.
I was excited for the chummus, unfortunately was a huge disappointment The pitas were frozen and put in to a toaster (they were dry!) and the chummus had no flavour
I came here twice in the last couple of weeks. Both times the staff were friendly, the food is fresh and tastes great, and there are a lot of options. Had a delicious quinoa salad, spicy avocado egg bagel and cheese blintzes. Thank you!
Words can not describe how much I LOVE this place. Forget DisneyLand, What A Bagel is the most magical place in the world. My go-to is the breakfast burrito. It has the perfect ratio of cheese, turkey bacon, and egg. It also comes with spicy mayo and veggies but I opt out. I am currently eating one as I type this review.
They also have scrumptious smoothies. My favourite is the Nutella Banana smoothies.
Also they always have a nice variety sweet treats.
I have to get back to class but I rate this place 5/5!
They need one person handling the cash at all times—shouldn’t have to wait in a sandwich line if I’m quickly pricing out a CPG item or a couple bagels. Annoying that you can never quickly run in an grab something
So slow and indifferent. Will tell you "2 more min" over and over. Then told me that I don't have to wait and to leave. Good luck staying in business with that attitude.
Not sure if it was the owner or what but whoever seemed to be managing was extremely rude and unprofessional, and was wearing sweatpants and running shoes, not a uniform.
Love this place. Their bagels, sandwiches and coffee are delicious and they never mess up my order. They're a little pricey but it's worth it because they don't skimp on anything.
Great bagels but the line sucks. If you are just buying some bulk bagels you have to wait in line behind people ordering food and waiting for it to be prepared. This means there is no such thing as a quick trip in to get some bagels.
The service is always courteous and efficient. Surprising for such a busy place. They turn over quite a variety of sandwiches and lite meals as you wait to pay at the end of the service line. A great system. Quality food prepared in a well kept and clean environment. The name, What A Bagel suggests that you are pretty much guaranteed a lovely fresh, warm bagel. Warm and fresh perhaps, but these are not good bagels based on my experience with bagels. They are much more like bread rolls into which someone stuck their finger to create a hole. Not Montreal style. Not New York style. I've eaten a hundred bagel sandwiches from this place and although the sandwiches are tasty, these are not bagels. Not really.
I visited your facility and ordered a "sandwich" which I thought included the bread. Sandwich means - bread included. I noticed I was charged an extra $2.00 for the bread. This angered me very much. Very sad but I will not be visiting What A Bagel again. Using COVID19 as an EXCUSE is not warranted justify! Dictionary Definitions from Oxford Languages sand·wich /ˈsanˌ (d) wiCH/ An item of food consisting of two pieces of bread with meat, cheese, or other filling between them. "a Tuna, egg, salmon sandwich"
Believe me when I say this. I never call in and complain at restaurants/shops because I understand how stressful it is being a service worker and I don’t want to make anyones job harder. But my boyfriend and I ordered through Uber eats and we both agreed that the bagel smelt very weird and we couldn’t finish it. I called in to let them know, because I wanted to figure out why it smelt weird.
The host was fine, but the manager I spoke to was kind of rude. He asked me to describe the smell and to be more “specific” but I didn’t know how to describe the smell.other than the fact it smelt like a dirty air dried towel? Lol. He then came off very passive aggressive. It felt like he was making jabs towards my name (which he pronounced incorrectly anyway.) about how it’s “a name he definitely won’t forget”. To me it seemed like he was passively making fun of it.
He did say somewhere during the call that he appreciates customers like me that leave feedback. But he also seemed a little annoyed and passive aggressive over the phone. I honestly couldn’t tell.
Like I said, his remarks towards my name were very unnecessary. I don’t know if he was just having a bad day or if he’s actually just rude lol.
Otherwise, the flavour of the bagel was honestly mediocre, I just couldn’t get past the pungent smell. It might be the parchment paper they use.
Exceptionally friendly staff and owner. I ordered two dozen bagels and was helped immediately even with covid regulations of the stores capacity. I was in and out in less than 4 minutes abs the bagels were phenomenal. The sore is exceptionally clean in a very high traffic area. This is the best bagel store I’ve been to in a long time. 100% recommend.
This store absolutely sucks. Firstly, my order arrived 30 minutes late. They missed every single item in my order. I'm lucky they gave the bagel in my breakfast sandwich. When I called to tell them this they kept me on hold and conveniently forgot. When finally someone answered the second time the response was an unapologetic "what do you want is to do? " I would rather go hungry than order from this outlet.
Regularly use skip the dishes to order the best bagels I've ever had, egg salad, tuna salad, soups as well. Also its the only place I trust to buy avocado from. Such high quality is worth the extra delivery cost.
Best place for bagels - they even have gluten free options in house which has been great for my roommate. Lovelovelove the people here. Could literally eat the egg salad with a spoon (and I do). LOVED the cream cheese they gave me. Never heard of Arla before but I don't think I'll ever eat any other cream cheese again.
My mother came here for lunch the other day and got a bagel with cream cheese and lox. She said the staff was very rude and uninviting. After eating the bagel, she got food poisoning. She thinks it was from the lox that had been sitting there all day. 1/10 Wouldn't recommend.
Downgrading the rating from 4, initially I liked this place but from past couple of times, haven't enjoyed the bagels or the service. Staff isn't very helpful, bagels are not that great and its fairly expensive.
I like the fact everything is mostly fresh.however its pricey (may be cause of location). The muffins and especially the sufganiyot we tried were pricey for the quality they had.
There’s no better bagel in the city! Just because it’s franchise doesn’t take away the home style flavour of the bakery goods and foods. Can’t live without this place haha
Reminds me of an old New York deli. Great bagels baked on the premises, as well as a tempting selection of baked goods. Limited seating, cosy on a cold day next to the ovens. Traditional fillings, come hungry.
Regulary visiting What A Bagel on Yonge/Sheppard and decided to go to this one when was walking by. Place looks like a Soviet canteen from 50's and had the same level of cleanliness. Totally different in terms of service.
Bagel was good, doesn’t compare to a New York City style bagel but it was good. Very rude staff, no sense of assistance/signage/help. Went to pick my bagels up at the back, wanted one to go. Went to cash to pay and order my bagel. They told me rudely that I needed to pick it myself. Fine, wouldn’t be a problem if there was a sign to inform customers. Then I brought my bagel back to the cash. They told me I need to stand in a line and pass it to the person behind the counter to put the toppings on I like. Again, would be fine if there was signs. Then after going to the cash for the third time I finally paid. Very rude to new customers who don’t know how this place operates.
This is the type of restaurant that if they were to renovate the location it would lose it charm. I love to have my bagel with salmon spread and cucumber and of course their great coffee. The attendance are great.
Staff isnt helpful. I asked for a specific bagel and was told to go get it myself (first timer here didnt know that we had to get our own even though were paying like 5 dollars a bagel) and when I returned with it a moment later she has disappeared and I had to wait quite a while to be served.food is good but atmosphere isnt great.
Must try items: Cream cheese everything bagel Blueberry cream cheese strudel Caramel mocha latte I am so amazed at the quality and taste of their food. Awesome place for brunch!
What A Bagel is a Village staple. Whether it’s your Sunday AM bagel fix or last min smoked salmon run, they’ve got you covered. Easy, delicious, and casual.
Lovely bagels, but cost me $22 for 3 Bagels with egg/bacon/cheese. Thought this was quite expensive really. The pricing seems a-bit inconsistent. So maybe ask before u order.
Now I am not one to make negative reviews, but I just had to with this one. I’ve been to many What-A-Bagels and this is by far the worst one. Staff are unfriendly and unhelpful. I was not asked what I wanted on my bagel, when every other location asks if I want butter/toasted/etc. This has happened a few times. They just ask if I want veggies and then turn around and do as they please. Apparently I’m supposed to volunteer all the information as if I’m serving myself. I mean, what is customer service even?
The prices are ridiculous too. Even if I just want veggies and lox, I am charged nearly $10 for a bagel with lox AND cream cheese, despite NOT getting cream cheese. Every other location has veggie as an option and then adds on lox slices for another couple dollars. I NEVER pay more than $6/7 after tax for that. And I NEVER get charged for cream cheese when I literally only get lox and veg.
I was told to talk to the manager about it and she said “that’s the way it is”.
I thought franchise requirements included a streamlined menu and options. Needless to say, I will not return to this location in the future.
It's a nice Bakery for fresh Bagels which are usually $0.90 each and for half a dozen about $5 but other things are pretty steep and price I came home to look over my receipts only to realize I paid $4.50 for bagel and cream cheese even though they're $0.90 each for the bagel itself so that means the cream cheese and the fact that the bagel is toasted is why all added up to that price? I'm not sure but I'll never do that again I recommend if your go here for your bread or your bagels unless you're starving bring it home make your own sandwich it's a lot cheaper but if you have the money to spend then spend it. The braided challah bread was amazing and I'll be definitely back for more of that.
