What A Bagel

When I phoned for a catering order, the guy on the line, an Andrey Plotnikov, was super rude. Wouldn't let me ask any detail questions about my order, like if I could separate the tuna from the cream cheese for vegetarians. Told me the price before tax, and when I looked on my bank statement, the total was higher than told over the phone.

Just not the customer service I was expecting. Put me off from ever calling back for another order.

Just bought a jelly donut from the Spadina store and its still dough inside - disgusting! I don’t know how they are getting away with selling these all day. You can smell they are raw.

Bagels are good but the service isn’t. Not much to the staff’s fault but it’s very busy and the manager is barking orders at everyone. Not very professional nor polite for customers.

Do you love fresh bread and the best salads of your life? Then oh baby, is this the place for you. The cobb salad is the bees knees. The everything bagels have sustained me for 31 solid years. I've got at least 12 in the freezer at any given time. The pastries ruin my diet on the weekly: (:). Service is good - patio is bumpin - the only thing I don't love with all my heart are the prices which - in this economy - are I guess pretty normal but make me upset all the same. I love you what a bagel <3

Loved the delicious bagel I had the New Yorker and he was right: the egg went well with smoked salmon and cream cheese.:) Delicious!

You don’t get to tell me what I see when someone is rude to me or not. My feet were NOT on the opposite chair (they were folded under me- guess his observation is really poor and weak lol) and the guy was VERY RUDE and CONDESCENDING.there are basic etiquettes when you say something like “odour”. You need basic manners which he obviously lacks. Your WHITE customers didn’t want to look at my feet. Better write the TRUTH.you don’t need to hide that lol If you have RULES. Write them clearly. And if you want to tell them to a customer then be courteous and respectful. Where is it written that you need shoes on? State your rules beforehand. How in the world am I to know your exclusionary rules? And then be kind. The food was bland as hell and I’ll be sure to tell everyone to not go here because the food is overpriced and horrible.

Love the place.wanted to sit in patio but we were late, the area was closed due to extreme hot outside perhaps then the experience would have been much better if we would have reached earlier.
Tried their omelette which was really good.their French toast was good could have been better it was bit dry.
Maybe next time.

Love this restaurant. Reasonably priced items, tasty and very consistent. I get a lot of bagels from here and haven’t yet been disappointed.

It does get crazy busy in peak times, but they do a fairly good job managing it all. Would definitely recommend trying it out. This is a pretty solid location too compared to some others that I’ve been to.

One of the best options for breakfast bagel sandwiches in the city. Great quality food, but beyond that a bit disappointing. Have had several bad customer experiences with pickups and interactions with staff. Half the time you pre order and get a notification that the food is ready, it is not and you wait around not being served/helped. Also, on multiple occasions I have received the wrong food. Really like this place, but there are few service elements that really need improvement.

Today I decided to gave this place a second chance, despite the first time that I ordered their buttermilk waffles was so disappointed because they were very plain without any flavor.
Me and my friends ordered through uber eats, I got the Philly cheese stake panini (20 dollars btw! Without including the taxes and delivery fees). Was expecting a big portion or at least really tasty food for the money that I was paying, and definitely is not worth it AT ALL. I really think they are over-rated, the only reason I gave this place 2 stars is because their hot chocolate was good.
You can eat somewhere else with less amount of money for tasty food and more quantity.

Last thing: Also wrote on the comments no spinach, and looks like they decided to completely ignore it. Anyways don't think I'm buying anything again.

Great fresh bagels, I usually get a smoked salmon bagel while I’m getting my weekly bagels too. No complaints about the service:)

Came in here just walking down on Spadina! I love bagels and usually I buy them from the grocery store but not again! What a bagel will be my bagel place from now on, they have a table where you can get a dozen bagels (bagels that may expire soon-but you can freeze them) for only 4 bucks! I literally finished all 12 in a week I might’ve gotten lucky getting all 12 bagels that are everything (poppy seeds, dried onion, and sesame).

I wanted to like this place but the breakfast bagel was pretty disappointing. You might have a better experience building your own bagel

I’ve visited here many times to get catering and takeout and it never disappoints. Their bagels are made fresh everyday!

We decided to visit for brunch today. We put our names down and only waited 20 minutes. We ordered the BELT breakfast bagel and California Benedict. Both dishes were fresh, tasty, and the portions were big.
The only thing I would say to management is that with colder months coming, please close the door. We were eating with our jackets on lol.

Overall it is good quality.

I got the Belt. It came with a good portion of fries. It was well cooked and delicious.
However, it would make more sense (pricewise) to get a take out if you live nearby.
Also, I like their bagels (the bread itself). It’s very nice to get and make bagel at home.

The building itself is not somewhere you want meet someone for the first time!

I've eaten here a few times over the years as it seemed to be a reasonably priced breakfast/lunch and the food was OK. I feel the prices have gotten absurd recently and don't reflect the quality of food you are getting. Definitely better options near by.

Did not receive our food and when we called into the restaurant the manager was rude and unapologetic. Manager said he has nothing to do with the problem and that half the guys who do food delivery don’t even speak English or know what they are doing. States all he is responsible for is making the food and nothing else. We explained we placed our order through the whatabagel website and picked delivery, he told us we should have just come in to pick up. I asked how we could fix the problem since he has our money and we have not received the food to which he replied the website we ordered through has the money (which was their website). Makes no sense. Very disappointed.

Einfach lecker. Breite Auswahl an Bagelvarianten und Belägen/Aufstrichen. Zum Glück habe ich den Ort erst relativ spät entdeckt, sonst wäre meine Verbagelung nicht aufzuhalten gewesen.
Zu den anderen Optionen des Ladens inkl. Frühstück/Lunch kann ich nichts beitragen.

I rarely write negative reviews but I had to here.i was in there a week ago and bought hummus, sealed container, took it home 3 days later opened and found mold. Sent pict to the manufacture and called up the store.spoke to a lovely manager who understood the meaning of customer service.told me to throw it away, come in and they would make it right.went in today and I ordered a BELT and was getting a BLT as it's no on the menu instore but they were nice enough to make me an egg and charge me. I told the man at the counter who I was but did not get a credit. I then repeated my name after he cashed me out and told him about the moldy humus, he asked where it was and I told him the lady manager told me to throw it out? He went onto say thsts the only way they will get credit for the item if I return it? So this is how you treat a customer? YOU MAKE IT ABOUT YOU GETTING MONEY BACK INSTEAD OF BEING CONCERNED ON WHAT HAPPENED AND MY EXPERIENCE OF YOUR STORE? He thought I would go back to return it and told him I was not taking a trip back.he was rude, did not appologize once and it took everything out of him to return my $4.99.is it any wonder yourstaff are as uninviting as you.

Take this from someone swearing off this place entirely as of today. This place has been good food quality wise, would still recommend if you're looking for somewhere with good bagels.

I would refrain from this place for delivery/take-out. Also, if you're looking for a breakfast join, and not seeking specifically bagels. I highly recommend Avenue Open Kitchen. It is right around the corner and the food is much better and cheaper. There's also plenty of other bagels stores near by, Bagels on Fire or Bagel Nu. I do believe this What a Bagel is severely overpriced as well in my opinion.

I've never received my take-out orders from this place on time. My most recent order took 20 minutes on top of the estimated time of delivery. Walked in and was told to go wait outside. Someone went to check on my order and never came back as well. If I had not walked back in when I did (I was going to ask them to refund my order), I would have also missed out the prompt for my order as they announced it in the store. The staff is disjointed and the place is seemingly chaotic at all times.

To the management staff. If you do miss peoples orders or you are backed up, it would be better practice as to maintain integrity. "We missed your order or forgot about it, it'll be 20 minutes. " Rather than having someone check your order, and get told to wait outside the by manager.

45 minutes for a bagel and a yogurt.

Really disappointed in this location. I have tried what a bagel at other locations and it has been great, I was very taken back by the disorganized pick up line and the rude staff. When I walked up, I was already listening to the staff tell the delivery drivers to "pick a new job if they don't like waiting for food", which already made me very hesitant to ask for my order that ritual mentioned was ready. Because the staff seemed clearly stressed out I patiently waited for my order, 5-10 mins past and I still had not gotten my food. I asked the girl at the front for my order she said she would look for it, I waited another 5-10 mins. At this point I asked the second girl if my order is ready yet considering ritual said my order was "ready for pick up" 15 minutes ago. She told me the pick up times on ritual are inaccurate and she would look for my order. I waited another 5 mins before she came out with a single container, she told me they put both orders together in one box despite them being two different people. All of this wouldn't have been a problem, as we understand how chaotic pick up services can be downtown, but to wait 20 minutes after the order was ready, to have the two orders be put into one box, to have the staff being rude to people outside the second I step up.this made for a very unenjoyable experience. My friend ordered a bagel and I ordered sweet potato fries (mentioned on the app it was separate), as you can see in the photo they were put together in one container and I paid 5$ for less than handful of fries. Although the staff was not rude to me personally, it was very uncomfortable to see them being so rude to others (I really feel for the staff and I think implementing a more organized pick up situation may take some of the stress off of them).

Food is great, service is deplorable, no one knows what they are doing. No acknowledgement when you enter and waited 15 Minutes to put order in. Then when finished food they brought another plate of food to me. Really bad management and organization.

My absolute favourite spot to go to, Love to eat breakfast here, but can get very busy there. But I have no problem waiting for good food. Definitely a five star in my eyes.

This place is always really busy, but I find the bagels to be pretty average and a bit overpriced for what they are. The only they have going for them is their nice patio. I'd rather pick my bagels up at bagels on fire on queen.

The food is good but it's very frustrating being charged different amounts for the same order on different days.most times, iI'm charged under $6 for a cheese bagel with cream cheese.today i was charged almost $9 for the same order! This happened before and frankly i have been too hungry, too shocked to debate it with the cashier but fack.it's annoying I feel like I'm getting ripped off. If anyone from the business is reading this, I'd like to understand the inconsistency in pricing, it really seems to be a roll of the dice.

Update: while food and smoothie were good, the floor layout inside is too tight and environment is noisy. Plastic glasses for water and uniform of a few employees did not look attractive.

Had their egg Benedict for sit-in brunch. I’ve had better egg Benedict at many more places…another overrated place?

Okay food and drinks, but the policy of serving customers at the takeout window only when there is no one else in line for in-store shopping, including behind those at the takeout window, should be revisited. I waited in line today and when I arrived at the takeout window, the continually arriving customers behind me were served one by one, and I received service only when there was finally no one else to serve who wanted to shop in-store. Because I used curbside service, about 15 people who arrived after me were served first. I understand that the takeout window is preferred for online orders only. Very strange policy.

Ordered via Uber eats. Bagels are not the best when you don't eat it immediately. Had a 1+1 deal going on. Their sandwich, bagel, and anti oxidant juice/smoothie were really good. Also fresh fruit bowl amazing

Pickup was fine, food was ready quickly. It was brutally over cooked though. The eggs Benedict was just two hard-boiled eggs, and the potatoes were dry and overcooked. Even the lox was fried somehow. At these prices I hoped for a lot better.

Delicious bagels and sandwiches at decent prices. The bagels are definitely the highlight of the menu items. The best deal is the bag of day old bagels for a couple bucks, can't beat it

Got the West Coast Signature WAB Sandwich and it was soooo good. The bagel and ingredients were so fresh and delicious!

I've been going eating here for a few years now. Recently, I made a mistake when ordering on Ritual, but the manager went above and beyond and fixed my order despite it being my misunderstanding. Their cheese bagels are to die for. Definitely worth a visit!

I simply love their breakfast bagels, the butter and chocolate croissants. It has become a tradition for us to get our breakfast goodies there at least once a week.

My first experience here was on a busy Saturday and I had been left waiting for longer than anticipated. I left a review and afterward the manager of the location got in touch with me. He rectified the situation by giving us a much improved experience. The following Saturday he had my boyfriend and myself come in, thanked me for my review so that the restaurant and the workers could provide a better experience for all of their customers. It truly felt like everything was working better and the employees seemed much more helpful and happier. Not to mention the food that we were treated to was amazing! I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is hungry for some delicious food!

This place is a dump no respect for food couriers. They don’t train staff, staff are rude. Don’t package food properly or wrap drinks. Will be out of business. Really negative vibes when you enter this business

Went in there today around 3: 50pm. Hopeful for a great bagel experience as I come from Montréal and love going to a bagel shop for an afternoon sunday snack.
1) they got my order wrong. I said no capers or onions and got a whole ton of capers that couldn’t be removed.
2) more than the posted store capacity of people allowed in, violating covid protocol
3) the one girl only had a hair net. No one else had hair nets but were all in the same space?
4) extremely slow service. Had 3 girls making the cream cheese look pretty, and one trying to take orders and another trying to make the bagels, which caused me to wait much longer than necessary. No one was hustling but the old man I could see in the kitchen.
5) they were rude to the Uber driver that came in to pick up his order, Uber guy was very professional and patient.
6) the food was way below how good it should of been. 21$ for a coffee and two cream cheese and smoked salmon bagels should be a great treat, but instead they got the order wrong and gave us a ton of cream cheese to the point that we couldn’t even taste salmon.
7) had to remind them about my coffee, which they had clearly forgotten and had to ask me about again. Annoying!
8) they call themselves a bagel store but had like 4 kinds of bagels available, definitely not the popular kinds either.

The one positive is the coffee was ok.

The best bagels I've ever had! I love the variety of their menu and everything I've tried has been wonderful. It can get quite busy in the mornings but it's a testament to the quality.

Great variety, large outdoor seating area, amazing coffee! And delivery is also an option which in my experience has always been on time. Definitely recommend the home fries!

Awesome experience. I had almond croissant and hot chocolate. Both much better than traditional coffee places.

Today I have ordered the Montreal Smoke meat sandwich. The lady with the blond hair behind the counter was very helpful and made me an astonishing sandwich. 5 stars for sure.

Affordable prices, great choices of Bagels and pastries. Each time I'm coming in this neighborhood, I will go there to buy half a dozen of sesame bagels. I tried their espresso and apples cakes for just 7$ I found it quiet good. They have plenty of space (unless you go there at noon on a weekday when they prepare sandwiches or salads). The staff has always been great to me, welcoming and professional.

Yummy bagels ️️️ i used the bagels from what a bagel to make breakfast bagels at home. Always delicious!

Fresh bagels everyday. Tried eating in, ordered the smoked esalmon with sweet potato fries and I enjoyed it. Bought some bagels for takeout and they were still good 6hrs later. Wish they had a wider variety of smears though

Heard a lot of good things and then went in with my gf to grab some breakfast a couple of weeks ago. We ordered latka and a breakfast bagel. My gf's food had a giant hair in it but we'd waited so long for food that she just ate half. Our server only came around at the very end so we didn't even get a chance to tell her that her food had a hair in it.

Then when I went to use the pepper, the entire bottle broke and spilt all over my food. The pieces of the pepper dispenser were in my food along with a full dispensers worth and when I told the server she just shrugged said sorry she'd get me more pepper? ! Which made no sense.

I'm only giving it 2 stars because I cant imagine so many people would tell me its a good place for it to be horrible but nonetheless my experience wasn't great and I won't be going back

Great food! However it takes waaay too long to get the food, even when you order small things such as breakfast bagels. That shouldn't take 30mn to make. You really need to find a way to fix this, everybody complains about it.

This is a great little bakery with table service and hot meals. Good selection on bread and baked goods. Best of all.they have a pretty good selection of gluten free options.
The juice and smoothies are delicious.

Everything and more than I hoped it to be. For days I had been observing lineups around the block.then this morning there was none "YET" so i jumped in and ordered their best bagel. I don't believe I have ever got such pleasure from eating a breakfast sandwich in my life. Thank you for the lovely start to my day!

No direction of how or where to order different items. No assistance offered by staff. Confusing layout and order process. One place trying to be too many things.

First time and last time at this location of What A Bagel. Cold food, lukewarm mediocre coffee, as well as unfriendly and inadequate customer service. We were dining in on Sunday March 3,2019 in the early afternoon. I have worked in the food service industry for many years, so I know what good service is, and this experience was definitely not up to par.

Go-to place for a close to NYC experience; but hard to get a seat especially in the winter when the outdoor seating is closed!

I called and was put on hold three times because nobody could answer a simple question about a party challah. Come on guys? !

Chicken caeser salad is amazing. Dressing is made fresh. Such big portions!
They charge a ridiculous amount for cream cheese. But overall, really good place for sandwiches. Challah bread is outstanding. They are always busy!

Stopped by for a quick breakfast and were not disappointed. Service was nice and food came quickly and was delicious. It is a simple place with lots of options and variety and the prices are very good. We would definitely try out more of the options if we are ever in the area.

What a bagel! Seriously amazing bagels at this location. There is also a great selection of lunch items, with lots of healthy options. A great place for lunch if you work around the area. Except on free bagel days where there will be a huge lineup of people. The only minus I find, and it is a personal taste, is that the pastry items feel a bit heavy taste wise. I find there is a bit too much fat in the pastries, and they could get a bit fluffier. Otherwise great bagel and bread selections!

It tastes great. It's a great take on your "typical" Israeli foods, great healthy choices BUY really pricey. I went there to eat by myself, had a latka dish with a shake and I spent 30 dollars. I don't even know how. Nice place to come for a treat.

Got a breakfast sandwich and my girlfriend got the avacado grilled cheese. The breakfast sandwich was terrible compared to any other bagel house location. And the avacado grilled cheese. Had no avacado. If you like the bagel house brand Please go to another bagel house because this one is not up to par

This place never disappoints, it’s best in the summer because they have the seating outside so you rarely ever have to wait. But my favourite is the avocado grilled cheese, so good! The staff are always friendly and doing their best and their prices are fair.
