Whitby Public Library - Central Library

I recently exhibited my paintings at the Art Rail. Thank you Whitby Public Library for giving me this opportunity as an emerging artist. I received great feedback and appréciation of my work. I would especially like to thank Selvan and the welcoming staff at the library. Great place! Happy people!

Great selection of blu-ray, DVD's and console games, friendly staff and easy to use self serve for quick checkout.
If I ever need to print any black and white documents I go here.
Great programs to engage kids, tablet games in the kids books section always make the trip to the library a good time

Went for the farmers market. But been there for a few events with the fam. This place is community oriented to the max

Beautiful library, so many corners and spaces for kids to explore. A lot of materials to color with and I spy activities hosted.

I have loved this library for many years - catalogue, interior space, and staff are great. However, in recent visits I have felt unsafe inside the library and on the property. There are many suspicious characters present in the area, as well as an encampment in a building right beside the library. I've seen a woman bathing in the fountain and others on the property with evident substance abuse issues. On one visit, a creepy man followed myself and a friend around the library, staring at us - we didn't mention it to staff but will certainly do so if we see this person again. There are security guards on duty, but they usually stay in one spot and do not intervene. As a woman, I no longer feel safe coming here alone. I hope in the future more can be done to prevent loitering and keep the library safe for patrons.

One of my favorite places I used to enjoy taking my kids when they were younger and will still enjoy even though they are a wee bit older.

Great library! Welcoming space, friendly and helpful staff, nice selection of books and dvds, and I find the modernized process for holding and checking out materials really easy to navigate. Lots of space inside to sit and read or work. I like the areas outside in the summer but would love to see it expanded a bit more. Bus stop right outside is convenient, and close by to other shops and services. There are events that are held outside the library as well (tree lightings, farmers and holiday markets, beer fest, etc.). It makes the library feel like an important/central part of the Town of Whitby, and I like that.

My husband and I enjoy the group 2+ room where we can work and do zoom meetings and support each others success. The library is well laid out and provides spaces that you can focus and be productive.

I Love this Library for several reason. Very courteous and welcoming staff always ready to help, cleanliness, Great collection of books, easy to navigate, Quite spaces to read and Focus, centrally located. Ample resources.the list can go on.equally good for children and adults. Not enough parking space but overall it is 10/10.

A great library and excellent staffs. Parking availability can be a little tough at times.

UPDATE REVIEW:
Walked into my sanctuary today and pleasantly surprised at the new layout in the seating area upstairs and all new furniture as well. You all know how to keep me happy and coming back.

This is the most aesthetically pleasing library. It was also my home away from home while I was on a leave of absence from work. It became my sanctuary for solitude. Great selection of literary gems and very knowledgeable staff.

Beautiful library, wonderful staff. We attend a baby group weekly and the facilitator is beyond wonderful. It's fun inviting and engaging.

Farmers market on now, Wednesday's only! A lot of variety from beer, crafts, honey, fruits, vegetables and everything in between.

Very comfortable and inviting place, staff are superb, friendly. Facilities within and around are very convenient.

Very clean space. Quiet. A lovely place to spend Saturday Eve as a family discovering through books. Very friendly staff.

An amazing place! Thus library has it all! It is also new and pleasant just to be there enjoying the beauty of this spot. They have lots of things to borrow. Boardgames, video games, and new releases on books. It is a massive place.

Best library you could ask for. Great selection in person and online, and the staff is always so helpful and friendly. We feel very lucky to have access to such a wonderful library!

I have been going here for 30 years now. Always loved the library, it's amazing staff and all the resources it has. My son still borrows video games and movies as well as anime and magazines we never even knew about when I first started coming here. Love this place and how much it grows and changes to support our youth and the general public. The library has and always will be one of the greatest resources for all of as to fact check and find a warm comfortable place to relax read and learn amongst others.

I was in and out in a couple minutes. It was easy to find what I wanted and wasn't busy at all. Good covid restrictions in place. Staff is always friendly and helpful.

Modern building with lots of amenities. Study rooms, kids area, nursing room and lots of programs.

Being allowed back into the library to wander and pick up books felt soo awesome. It was really quiet with only a few patrons there. The service is always friendly and helpful.

Went for printing service. Courteous and helpful and prompt staff. Well organized and modern architectural design gives it an aesthetic appeal.

Nice atmosphere to sit and read. Staff members are very friendly and helpful. But there's really a problem with parking. Can never find a spot.

I don't know why you don't open on Sundays. I have school on weekdays so I can't go and Sunday is the only day I can go and its closed. Also you should really make your hours longer. People need to photo copy things after work and when it closes at 6 they can't do it

Very helpful for students in need of technology and equipment. You can use computers and take print outs for any of your project works or interesting subjects. Contains books for all ages and all kinds. I love this library

Huge library with so much to do! Many seating options for families with small kids to students cramming for exams. They also offer many programs to the public that I highly encourage you to check out (not sure if this is ongoing due to COVID-19

Very well stocked and organized library with good seating space and games for kids. Currently following covid guidelines and I feel safe going in.

Was harrsed by a security guard because i had wrapping paper in my pocket. Not worth going. Find a better library

Excellent place to study and always the front desk is ready to help you. I had this impression since my first visit to WPL.

I LOVE this library! It's clean, open & airy. The staff I have interacted with have always been very nice & helpful. I feel myself relax almost as soon as I walk through the doors. The only "issue" I've ever had here is trying to get one of the study rooms. There are only a few & they are usually in high demand.

The reason is that since 2005 after I want to do computer courses at the library when I signed up for a library card. However, since my mama made me late for my computer course, I have had it with my mama for real. Since my mama gave me such a hard time refusing to let me take back the library card because she thinks I am going to start an argument with them.
All I want to do is take back the library card for cancellation with rational explaining. What is wrong with my mama anyway? She never listened to me. Base on this issue for my mama failing me, I refuse to be with my mama.

My wife & I find something new every time we go here & we pretty much live there. Right now it is 3d printing for me & I am amazed at how helpful the staff is.

Great library with a wide selection of books. The design of the building is beautiful with lots of natural light coming in.

This is such an amazing library. Bright and open. Everything is nicely organized. Lots of chair to sit in.

Everything was perfect and most employees was kind. However, one of the security guys looked that he doesn't like Asian. He looked like that he doesn't want to say hello with Asian. One day, I felt he avoid when I tried to say hello to him in several times. Also, one of my Asian friends said he felt like me. So, I decided I will not go there again because I was not comfortable whenever I met the security guy in front of door.

A beautiful, large library with plenty of seating and incredibly helpful, friendly staff! I had trouble printing documents today & the staff was attentive, courteous and patient.

This is one of the most organized library I've ever been to. The library is extremely enormous. The staff are friendly and eager to help. The computer is easy to access, it helps you to know what books are available and where to get them. They also have an app which is very convenient.

Please start tagging people's cars on library property who have nothing to do with library. Its annoying to not find parking place for people who go there daily

I love this library. It's open, bright, they have lots of copies of popular books and movies and their online system is fairly easy to understand. It's a great community gathering place too.

Probably the best library I have ever been to. Excellent seating, nice areas to study if a spot's available. The computers have excellent chairs. All the chairs are really nice actually. There's also a nice spot next to a closed fireplace. I love the floor to ceiling windows. Automatic doors. Nice maintained washrooms. Even payphone and a cafe connected to it. Ample parking close by. A 2 minute parking spot to quickly drop off a book. Self serve check out. An amazing library of dvd movies. An entire floor dedicated to the teens and kids section. Even artwork on the walls. What's not to love about this library.

The library has definitely changed their policy. You can now eat and drink while you're at the library. They just want you to clean your own mess up. You can also enjoy board games with your family or friends while you're at the library, they have a good selection here.

Their time is ok for weekdays and on Saturday and Sunday hours not so good and I thought that it was a library not home when people are talk loud and screaming kids, running kids, when people talking on their phone loud. I don't mind come over here to get stuff but I would love to print out the stuff that I need but their printer never works when I come there is mad at it because have to waste my time go to brooklin and money for business you know that it's 3.75 for one way and I have depression since 5 year old I get upset guick they should help people with disabilities and depression too that is important in world, never have anything new like cds dvds, games like wii u and ds, TV shows
