My experience with World Gym has been nothing short of frustrating. The cleanliness of the facilities is severely lacking, with unattended messes and equipment in disrepair. On top of that, the staff seems disinterested and unhelpful. I've witnessed instances where safety protocols were overlooked, creating an uncomfortable environment. The overall management of the gym appears neglectful, contributing to a subpar fitness experience.
The guy at the front desk is very rude.

I've been extremely disappointed with World Gym's service. The management, particularly the accounts team, has been unresponsive for a whole month. Despite reaching out via email, there's been no acknowledgment. Even their staff members are unable to contact them internally. When I tried explaining the situation to a front desk employee on January 13th, Saturday evening, the response was beyond rude, and they even hung up the phone. This level of customer service is unacceptable.

My list of why this gym is not worth the money:
1. They have hidden fees they don't tell you about and often make mistakes with withdrawing money from your account so make sure to double check. They told me after one year membership cancelation would be free only to find out I have to pay 67 dollars to cancel
2. The women's section lacks alot of lighter weights and machines. So I end up having to get weights from downstairs and wait a long time for 2 out of the 4 working treadmills
3. Air flow could be improved
4. Wifi sucks. Better to use the wifi from the store next door
5. No mirror in one of upstairs women section room and no full length mirror to see form
6. Lack of sanitation bottles

To add to the issues below please note that I had to file a POLICE REPORT due to another person THREATENING ME WITH A WEIGHT. The manager never called me back and never investigated the threat. Absolutely a horrible place to waste your money. I will be checking my account as it is noted below that they steal from your account. Should this be the case I will be claiming fraud at the bank as I will not waste my time with these people.

Honestly, the largest issue is the sanitization and the lack of customer service skills. Bottles of sanitizer are for individuals instead of communally shared thus if they run out you have nothing to clean machines. This leaves an already neglected women’s only area to be quite grimy (no one can clean if they don’t get a bottle). When I kindly asked two separate employees to speak to a manager about the poor efficiency and unhygienic practice, I was met with much hostility and was told many times over that this is what is done. Not only is it a poor excuse but it has no logic to it whatsoever. It also leaves it up to the customer to go around and ask others to use their bottle… this would be avoided with a communal bottle located on the paper towel stations.

Btw, there was one bottle for taking on the table as 3 more people walked in. Imagine how many people do not have access to cleaning solution to make sure this place is safe for others. It takes nothing to offer condolences for an experience and advise the customer that their suggestions will be forwarded to the appropriate party.

I will be cancelling as soon as my term is over.

I love the gym, except the machines in the woman room being out of service.how long to fix it? I pay extra to workout upstairs but whats the point if them treadmills dont work.

Cancellation policy is a JOKE, not recommending to anyone!
After being with the gym for a few months I felt that it was not personally what I was looking for in a gym, also considering my personal plans have changed since signing up and will be moving out of the province soon I thought I may as well cancel the membership. I emailed inquiring about cancellation and was told that I am "still in my one year committed term" and my cancellation is unable to be processed. Essentially, I am being forced to pay for this membership for the remainder of the year before cancelling? I find this policy to be very unfair. Very unhappy with my experience.

My home gym for the last couple years where I've made impressive gains and progress, however WorldGym needs to extend their weekend hours, to at least 10PM to remain competitive with Goodlife and other gyms who have later hours.

UPDATE: Increased review rating. WG has added new platforms, new treadmills, equipment fixing turn around is much faster, and have consistent cleaners who are doing a good job. My only complaint is that it would be nice for the gym to close at 10pm on weekends and Friday night being open until Saturday AM.

The best gym in Scarborough, ON, Canada. Also well reasonably priced. Very clean environment. Highly trained staff. Good customer service. Well serviced and new equipments. Plus the sauna is a bonus. There is a separate place for women. Also, a basket ball court. Plenty of parking space. Open 24 hours Mon to Fri, and 8am to 8pm on the weekends and stat holidays makes it convenient. Front desk staff is very customer oriented. 5/5.

DO NOT GO. This gym is probably one of the worst gyms I have ever gone too. Not only that, they don't update any of their members regarding any hour changes through the pandemic. Nor do they contact members if anything is happening with billing. The manager is very rude and their system is outdated. Their system is specifically preying on people to set up pre-paid plans, but have no set preparations to call or email to update members. Staff don't care to even spell name or address properly either. Staff don't do a lot of work, legit just sitting and talking at the front. Worst gym in Toronto.

Not bashing on the lady that cleans up, she is the only actual working member. She needs a raise and a better place to work at.

Tried this gym out since it’s in a pretty convenient location. Really spacious area with lots of equipment options. Management is also very friendly! Brij is super approachable and really helpful when you have any questions or concerns. Definitely recommend this gym!

I want to cancel my gym card, I went many times to figure out this problem, they always have excuses, said manager not here or something, then I stop my credit card want to them stop, the funny things are they still take the money from me and give me credit socre problem, Very bad experiece!

You get what you pay for. Signed up last month, asked why Men’s showers don’t work, been told “we are on it”. I don’t think it takes a month, I wish I was told about the issue when I paid reg.fees+, loss.

Travelled from Ajax to World Gym Scarborough to use these physical guest passes. The incompetent manager rejected them saying they are old and for reasons related to Covid although there is no expiry date on the passes. I will not be attending this facility and also share my experience with all my friends that have a World Gym membership.

It's been about 5 years since I've been to this gym and I gotta say since last time I came here they upgraded alot. Management is friendly and intentive, they have clothing and smoothies, it's up basically 24/7 with a few exceptions, everyone in the gym is mostly kind and will offer to help out. They actually wipe down the equipment which is nice. Over all if you come her for the pro membership you'll get your money's worth. Most of every gym equipment is here including a boxing bag

Absolutely wonderful place to train and workout for any purpose this is a very welcoming environment with a huge variety of equipment and also catering to the needs of all athletes and fitness enthusiasts. I highly recommend that any and all people train at world to meet your fitness goals as well as personal training goals they're super affordable as well as accommodations to train at any convenience.

Facilities are great! Very clean, approachable staff, delicious smoothies.

During the first lockdown, my credit card expired. Upon re-opening, I had forgotten completely about the gym.

They charged my account from June-October without notifying me what was happening. This resulted in over $300 in dues. I believe this was done in order to maximize profits, with no concern for the customer. Furthermore, I was unable to cancel my membership until dues were paid, which could only result in more fees.

Great facilities. Just be sure to watch your credit card - they will be happy to extract every single dollar they can from you without your knowledge and will hide behind the contract when asked why they couldn't behave in an ethical manner.

This is not a fancy gym. If you want fancy there are better options. If you want a gym that has all the necessary equipment and an excellent price this is it. No pool, which is good because those cost a fortune to keep up and that would up your fee. It is open 24 hours most days so if you are an early bird like me it is excellent. I don't use a trainer so I cannot comment about those services. It gets five stars because it does what it sets out to do at a great price. READ THE SIGNUP AGREEMENT. I have noticed people having issues at the desk from time to time but it is almost always because they didn't read the agreement. There is a bi-annual fee for maintenance.

The only reason I’m giving 1 star is because the option doesn’t exist to leave zero stars. This place is awful. The management is unprofessional and the locker rooms are terrible and in desperate need of proper ventilation. Broken equipment takes over a year to be fixed, no matter how many times you ask. I’ve been trying to cancel my membership for a long time but due to being extremely busy have not had the chance to go in person. Apparently that is the only way that they can cancel it. I said I was going to do it last week but got tied up with work and school. They make it almost impossible to cancel your membership. Even if I have to take a day off to cancel my membership I’m going to get it done this coming week. Do not join this gym. Their prices are fairly low but a true reflection of the type of place it is. You indeed get what you pay for. I highly recommend if you’re serious about your health and fitness that you spend the extra money and go to a place which values you as a member.

Same issues as everyone else in the comments, Can't cancel. If your company reimburses you for gym fees, World Gym takes over 2 months to provide you with receipts. Has no trouble charging you every month, including during the pandemic when going to the gym was restricted.

There's a lot of alternatives now at this price point with better customer service.

I signed a 1 year contract in December of 2019. About a week in, I had to move to Montreal so I called them to cancel my contract. They made it difficult for me to cancel the contract as they wanted proof of address for my new residence. I would have been just paid whatever fees owing at the time to just cancel it but then covid hit. While the gym was closed they were still charging me throughout the pandemic. I called them again to cancel but they told me I had defaulted on like 6 months of payments and I owed $333 dollars lol. So turns out they charge $35 every time your payment declines. Anyway, good luck getting my money this is what you get for asking me to mail a physical letter in 2020 lol

I have been collecting names on reviews for a potential lawsuit. I am also in the same situation, they refuse to cancel my membership and now started a fraudulent monthly charge. I will never pay their fraudulent charges. Forget small claims court with all of you as witness I am going to sue the franchise owner and World Gym corporation for abusive tactics. So please keep posting your story on this fraud of a business.

I cancelled my membership in person years ago, Apparently they've been trying to bill my old credit card for the whole time since then, and sent it to collections. TERRIBLE customer service, I cancelled and they are fraudulently billing me anyway. DO NOT ATTEND THIS TRASH GYM.

Do not attend this gym, it is a complete scam!

I cancelled my membership back in May 2019 in-person, and the collection agency just recently contacted me saying that my membership was never cancelled and I owe them quite a lot. I was never previously contacted about these overdue payments by the gym, and it was suddenly reported to the collection agency. Their communication is terrible, the management does not care about the clients, and they are extremely unprofessional. I will never recommend this place to anyone.

Very poor management. I recently learned I've been getting billed throughout covid.

I'm trying to email their HR and try to get ahold of anyone there. No one is responding or helping.

The gym itself is a good facility but management is the worst. Alot of hidden fees and extra charges going on. Something isn't rite they are acting like thieves.

They've now charged me $ 250. When the membership is supposed to be on hold because of covid and their monthly fees are 19.99. Seems ridiculous.

The new management is disgusting and does not have any regard for clients. I have been a member from the beginning, and the management at that time was courteous and came out and met the clients, got feedback and concerns and addressed them. Since this new management, they have changed some of the previous benefits and they are only concerned with taking people's money. Don't get me started on trying to cancel membership, like other clients they want courier delivery, why can't the accept the mail from the client just as if a courier was delivering it. It is an attempt to delay cancelation and take more money from clients. Oh and they advise of a cancellation fee. Companies like these should be held accountable. I asked for someone to call me in the several emails I sent them, but they don't have the courtesy to even do that. WORST PLACE EVER.

Honestly the worst! As previous reviews have mentioned, World Gym Scarborough makes it next to impossible to cancel your membership. You can not do so via email; they say only via a mailed letter/come in-person which during a global pandemic seems unreasonable.

Despite this, I went this afternoon with my mask and letter in hand. I peer through the windows and see three employees behind the desk (with the lights off), I tap on the window and even hold my letter to the windows to just be ignored. I also tried calling, they don’t answer the phones whatsoever. It’s ridiculous that this is allowed to happen and to so many people. Very unprofessional and poor business practice.

Response to the email response that I have received recently, when I tried to cancel my membership.

Hello,

In person? Your gym is close in my area due to Covid-19. Also, paper mail? Have you lost your mind sir/ madam. You don't even have a online provision for cancellation? Are you really operating a business in 21st century? Or is this just a way of keeping members away from cancellation.

I haven't been to gym more than 8 months. What am I paying for? Please take my complaint seriously and help me to get membership cancellation online. You should not be seeing people in person to avoid Covid-19 spread (I will complain to the city that you have asked me to visit in person for cancellation) and I don't have a money and patience for courier. If you are reimbursing me for courier charges then sure I will do it?

**Update**
I called the gym again and asked to fix the issue with the payments and extra charges. The front desk lady tells me to come in the gym to talk to the manager about it so they can see what they can do. I go to the gym location in Scarborough and start telling the lady to remove the extra charges because the World Gym’s accounting department hasn’t responded to my emails for the past 3 months (I contacted them to fix the payment issue so I can continue paying for the gym membership until my contract ends, instead of responding to me they continued charging me extra amounts, leaving me hopeless and frustrated). The lady tells me to wait and she goes talking to the manager. She comes back and tells me they can’t do anything and I have to pay up. I haven’t been using the gym from the start of 2020 and I have called them over 20 times about this; I don’t even live in the same province anymore, I live in Montreal! Yet the lady tells me to pay the extra charges. I ask the lady that I want to talk to the manager and she tells me he is busy; I drove all the way to this place to talk to the manager and now I am told he is busy and he can’t talk to me. These people are extremely disrespectful so far and I am starting to get really mad. I tell her she has to bring the manager here because she told me to come down here so she goes and gets the manager. The manager comes with a very unprofessional attitude and starts speaking to me without even asking my name, “hey boss I know your situation, you’re not the only one, we can’t do anything, you have to pay up. ” He never asked about my situation, he seems oblivious to what issues I am having and he doesn’t care to fix my problem. I try to give him more context and he refuses to listen and blames it all on me; I show him the email history between their accounting department and that they haven’t responded to my 6-7 emails, yet he doesn’t care and says they will reply once they get the time. This gym is a scam, they have the time to send you emails to pay up yet the don’t care to respond to their gym members who help run this business. Now the manager tells me to either pay up now or get out (note it has been only 10 mins). I feel completely humiliated in front of other people and the manager continues to tell me to get out or pay up now and cancel the membership. I am supposed to pay $200 for their negligence and ignorance when I should pay only $50. I felt uncomfortable standing my ground and demanding justice for my issue so I paid off the fees and cancelled my membership. I have never met someone with a role of a manager to act like this, extremely unprofessional, disrespectful and obnoxious. The lady at front desk should consider resigning and the whole management should get fired. No gym member should be treated like this. This issue could have been resolved so easily just by responding to my email 3 months ago.

New management is a scam. Their accounting department is a scam. I emailed the accounting department to discuss an issue I am having. I followed up a few times over the course of a month and no one replied. The front desk team reassured me that they fixed the issue with payments and contract but they didn't do anything. This gym is a trap, they lock you in and charge you extra and they will not respond to your calls or emails. Although, they will keep sending you emails to pay up. PLEASE STAY AWAY AND JOIN SOME OTHER GYM.

Most Employees have a bad attitude. So they give you a free shake card with no stipulations printed in it but just try to use it lol. Hey say no due to policy. Machines regularly broken. The sauna boards weren’t nailed in I fell hurt my elbow and twisted my wrist. They didn’t care. I’m locked in for a year and can’t stand the place. Save your money or go somewhere else. To my ttc brothers and sisters don’t join this place. Since new owners the place has gone downhill. The owners kids are clueless in running this place.

BEWARE of the positive reviews.the management is giving incentives to anyone that gives 5 stars. A TOTAL fraud company whos main intension is to make money through fraud - Fabricated Renewal. I subscribe and paid for 1 year and the sales guy really lured me in to making 1 yr payment by giving a fake discount. Within a few days I've started to dislike the facility and ask to refund me for 11 months subscription. I cancel my account and walked out by accepting my loss.
2 years later I've discovered that they hit my credit score saying I owe them for another year. I asked them to provide prove of my renewal but the front desk said they have no document of mine.

After a through investigation I've found that their fraud renewal scam runs and manufactured by collection agency name "Central Credit".
Together and through a pre-mediated plan they have been scamming citizen for a while now.

I've collected over 100s of their victim and soon to prepare a class action lawsuit.

If you are one of the victim please report it to Consumer Bureau of Ontario.

Terrible Experience. I went to the gym about 2 years ago, and the mood and atmosphere was pleasant. The equipment was well managed, and everyone clearly cared about ensuring everything was kept back after using it. Now, it has all gone downhill. It is a mess. The dumbbells are all over the place. Equipment that has signs of wear and tear. Some completely broken. Yikes.
