Food was really good and the atmosphere was nice. Gave me small Chinese food place vibes and it's an accurate assessment. Reminded me of a lot of the places my parents used to take me an my siblings when I was younger. I will definitely be eating here again.
Quality of food was desirable. Will never eat there again. Only bokchoy was in the fried noodles with half cooked chicken. No soy sauce was even added.
It’s not the top of the line chinese Restaurant but good service and food. Bbq duck skin wasn’t crispy and some dishes weren’t good. They are fast and amazing with kids very caring. No line ups or long wait times.
Ordered spring roll, shrimp dumpling, fish perfume meat string and mushroom oil vegetable. Tastes authentic. Spring roll tastes so good. Only 3 shrimp dumplings for appetizer and too hot in my mouth, too expensive. The rest is average price. Lots of selection on menu, service okay. Tried D1,90, good.

Do not go to this restaurant it’s a ripoff. I paid 16.75$ for a fried rice and the portion is very small. If you order a fried noodles the portion is double and the price is the same. Owner is rude and has no customer service experience. Doesn’t know how to talk to customers
Friendly unassuming Chinese dining. Huge portions, for a fair price. Hot and fresh- my faves are anything with eggplant. Happy they were open late as we were looking for a meal at 10pm. Will absolutely be back
Lovely Boxing Day lunch. The egg rolls are great. The beef and eggplant was my favourite. General Tao was a little spicy for me (it’s always hit or miss for me, I can’t take much spice) but it had a good flavour. Sweet and sour chicken balls were tough and dried out. The won ton soup was a bland but good. I would try again and skip those two dishes.
I’ve been ordering take out for since 2016 via apps from this place, sadly the new app they’ve gone too doesn’t allow me to place orders as they are always closed. Such a shame. Oh well I will have to find a new Chinese place to order from.
Not sure what has changed, they could not understand my address despite spelling it out - food never arrived, ordered twice, driver got lost despite being 10 blocks away from restaurant, and driver asked stranger to call me giving my name and phone number to people I don't know. Wow! Called to follow-up - put on hold -
We asked for FRIED rice and they gave us rice with sauce and beef, the description of the meals were inaccurate to what we received. All the meat which were in the dishes had a smell. The taste was not the best.
Absolutely AMAZING every time! Great to dine in or get delivery. They are super friendly and never disappoint. The delivery guy is so warm and friendly. Big portions with DELICIOUS food and egg rolls. They have NEVER provided anything less than perfectly wonderful food. I HIGHLY recommend! Thanks Yeng Sheng! I love you guys!
We really enjoy everything about this place. We accidentally walk into the restaurant and were pleasantly surprised by the size and the cleanliness of the dinning room. The staffs are very friendly and the foods are so good. My daughter love the ducks and the bird nest.
At restaurant in downtown Ottawa. Craving authentic Cantonese dishes. Meal was awesome and brought back great memories. If you are in the area I highly recommend. Yang Sheng is the oldest Chinese restaurant in Chinatown established in 1976.
This is the best Chinese food I have had in Ottawa lately. The food is delicious. Arrives hot and very fresh. Non greasy, flavourful dishes. Everything is good and the delivery person is pleasant, honest and always has a kind word when he or she arrives.
Needed to update. I have been eating here for 38 years. I have become extremely dissatisfied with their customer service and their takeout. There is one older women who is always rude for at least the last 7 years. No matter day, or time. To the point of, if I am going to eat there, I see her I don't bother. Believe she is the owners wife, or owner. Eddie is always friendly and caring. Remembes your name says hi. Asks about your family ect. Other staff is great ALSO. Authentic food. If you have allergies to shrimp stay away from the wonton soup. Again very authentic food.
An institution in Ottawa. It's among the oldest restaurants and shops in ChinaTown with at least 30+ years of patronage by friends and family. Always good, simple and affordable Chinese.
Went for the first time and one of the main things I can say about this place is the employees of this place are so welcoming and friendly. They even offer us free tea while we wait for our take out order! Plus they offer an extensive menu with different options for you to pick! Highly recommend!
After a long drive from Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ontario to Downtown Ottawa, we were famished and found this gem (the only restaurant that was open) amongst the restaurants that we tried going to.
Great food all around and the service was bar none!
Food was like home cooking at its best - great flavours, big servings and most of all, fresh ingredients!
Thank you so much for hospitality and great food! ️
Will change their delivery radius at the drop of a hat. I used to enjoy eating delivery from here, but I was abruptly told that they 'dont deliver that far' despite me ordering from them dozens of times in the past, several of which from the address they now refuse to deliver to after allowing it for several months.
I started eating at Yang Sheng about six months ago, and have been many many time since, and I can’t tell you how much I love this place. Always generous portions, served steaming HOT and filled with freshness, and to top it off, every single time my meal is prepared with AMAZING CONSISTENCY ️ Seriously! You’ll never get a bad meal at Yang Sheng. Ive been for both lunch and dinner, and I have had a ton of items on their menu, and every time, it’s both delicious and very well prepared. My HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION
I am so happy and impressed with this place. I am a BBQ Duck Fanatic and it's some of the best I've had. Really good price for the amount of food that you get, I ordered over UberEats and $60 was enough to feed both my partner and I for two days. If you haven't tried this place yet, do it. You won't regret it.
I ordered via Uber Eat. Hated the food. We had noodles which was tasteless but I was really disappointed by the Seafood XO. It’s quite pricey and the taste was not at all what I expected. The noodles were so oily, none of my kids ate it.
The duck had an awful taste, the rest was alright albeit very bland.the menu is overwhelming, despite the waitress being nice I can't recommend. A real shame for a small business
Anyone looking for actual Chinese food, avoid at all costs. Mushy saltless fried rice, with the egg over hard, and their fired noodles was just mush in cornstarch sauce.
Ordered my food. Got sent in a box with extras. Cockroaches. Unbelievable and disgusting. Have the photos.uploaded them. Look through the photos and you will see it
Being biased and bad towards Chinese customers. It’s funny cause they came from China, but the attitude treating Chinese customers is like SHIT. Maybe you can still have local customers with your preferred attitude, there will be consequences coming one day.
For what it’s worth, the food is amazing, made to order, not sitting in a hot plate in the back and thrown onto a plate. Consistently the food is fantastic and the waitresses are kind and prevent an over indulgent experience. Their Szechuan dishes are on Hong Kong point, and it’s no frills atmosphere, free wifi and accommodating staff make this place my #1 for a solo, quiet Chinese experience, or large group gregarious to do. Just such a comfortable unassuming experience. Love it!
So i ordered from them, spent $25 and told the lady to put no red sauce on the chicken balls, which I am allergic too, and they delivered it anyways, and then i called to get a new one and the lady told me she is not going to deliver a new platter because she said she never heard me say that, since i am allergic to the platter now, and i was on the phone with her for 5 minutes telling her how bad that is for customer service, after that she said she will make me a new one but "not wasting my deliver money for me". Absolute worse ancient restaurant ever.i don't know what her problem is, but allergies are usually and should be taking seriously, not happy at all.
Reasonable price for large portion of food! My favorite Chinese restaurant. They are always so generous on meat. In some other Chinese restaurant, they always serve a large bowl of noodles with two or three pieces of meat. In here, the ratio of meat and the noodles is almost 1: 1.5. Absolutely a good place for meat lovers.
I've been here twice and I have to say this is one of the best Chinese restaurants I've been to in Ottawa. They were very nice and friendly, the place was clean, and most importantly the food was amazing. The first 2 pictures are the Chiu Chow Dumplings ($6.00), the 3rd one is the Jumbo Shrimp in Black Bean Sauce (around $19 I think), the 4th one is shrimp Siu Mai ($6.00), the last 2 are pictures of Golden Creamy Buns ($4.50).
Gross. Everything is bland a chewy or laced with raw ginger so you can’t taste how bad it is. Worst Chinese food I’ve ever had, and small portions to boot. So mad.
Screw what people say! This place is consistently great! Best pad thai around for sure! Update Jan 2019: Food is even better! Love these guys! UPDATE 2019: thank you Yang Sheng UPDATE Apr 2019: wu se #1!
Had the fish ball soup and I was very disappointed, the fish balls were like eating rubber balls and the spring rolls were poorly filled and not vietnamese at all save for the fish sauce to dip them in. For a simple dish like fish ball soup it should be much better.
This place is legit. You want good BBQ pork? They will sell it by the pint. You want some good chinese food they have it. Yes it isn't the prettiest but I will fight anyone that denies it isn't one of the best chinese restaurants in Ottawa.
I have limited experience here as I have only tried 2 items on the huge menu. I love duck and have a hard time choosing a dish. So I always order the #44 duck delight. It comes in a 2 person giant plate with half a duck topped with chicken pork calamari shrimp and a few vegetables surrounded by bok choy. I will update with a picture next time I go. Free unlimited tea and white rice that is always fresh. They do delivery and also uber eats and skip the dishes. I always eat in, nice decor and I dont get judged for eating the whole thing alone.
Authentic Chinese food that has been consistent over 25+ years that I have gone there. Wide variety of dishes. Some of the ones that we really love are: Mustard Greens with Duck & Salted Egg Soup - the flavour contrast is very good with the salted egg, greens, and duck. Snow Pea Sprouts with Garlic - great if you want greens, Eggplant & Shrimp with Black Bean Sauce - so yummy. They are also able to tweak dishes for you. We always get Yang Sheng special rice with black bean sauce for instance instead of the regular sauce. Yang Sheng is our goto Chinese restaurant. Food is great and there are so many options.
A hidden Chinese culinary gem. The food is authentic, delicious and in abundance. Whether it be their specialty and my favourite dish, Rice Noodle, or the excellent lemon chicken, you’re guaranteed a wide selection of reasonably priced dishes.
Be sure to order a pound of their BBQ Pork to go. You exit Yeng Shen, hop in your car armed with the takeout, and before you arrive home, half <if you’re lucky> the addictively tasting appetizer is gone.
A friendly yet active environment with knowledgeable and attentive service. Once you visit Yeng Shen, you will make it your secret Chinese/Asian food getaway. Somerest and Bronson, eat in or prompt delivery. Mouth watering Dim Sum dishes too. That’s it, gotta run, I’m starving.
Just might be some of the best Chinese food in the city. It's a weekly spot for me.the staff doesn't speak English to well but they are very nice and the service is very quick
