Ordered the beef fried rice which was pretty decent. Everything else was disappointing. We ordered the Szechuan shrimp which is $19, it was extremely small portioning and it was not authentic szechuan, It felt as though they boiled the shrimp and salted it, no flavor and no spice, no gravy. Definitely will not be returning, the staff however were attentive and provided good service.

My shrimp still had the poo veins inside. My meal was taken off the bill. Regardless the sweet and sour soup I had was not edible. It seemed to have some added gelatinous sauce. I don't know. It was really truly a disaster. I hope this place starts taking more pride and its food and not living on its reputation. Staff were lovely; worth mentioning how nice they were

I used to be a regular at Yangtze restaurant before the pandemic, and I must say, it was a hidden gem. The food was delicious, and the prices were incredibly reasonable. The experience of having the staff walk around with the à la carte menu added a unique touch to the dining experience.

However, I recently visited the restaurant post-pandemic, and I'm sad to report that it has lost some of its charm. The à la carte service has been discontinued, which was a big part of what made this place special. The food quality has also noticeably declined, and the prices have shot up. Given that the building itself is quite old, the higher prices are hard to justify.

While the historic charm of the building remains, it seems that the restaurant is struggling to recapture the magic it once had. I hope they can find a way to regain their former glory because the potential is certainly there.

Have had Dim sum all over the world and can attest to the great authentic taste of Asia. Loved it!

Returned to Yangtze, finally, for Peiking duck. Dinner was delicious. Service was excellent. My son commented that it was the best meal / evening he'd had in some time. I agree.

The owner conviced me with very mild manners to try the ice coffee. I didn't tegret a single sip. Spot on!

One of the original traditional Chinese restaurants in Ottawa and an icon for good food. The portions and prices have wavered over the years and its sad to see the dolly trays and some of the unique dishes like taro duck go away. Though I'm hoping they return. Service is always dependable and attentive which is rare and you can tell the workers enjoy themselves enough as some have worked there since I was a child.

Take a chance on traditional Chinese food and itl take you down a Rollercoaster of tastes and I recommend starting here.

The steamed pork ribs had a peculiar smell, the waiter said impatiently that all the meat in Ottawa was like this, and rudely said that his Mandarin was not good, turned around and left. Very disrespectful and uneducated. We just finished eating, and asked us with a black face that if we finished eating, we would pay the bill immediately. I always bring my family here when they visit Ottawa. Really good dim sum options & family style dishes to share. Great atmosphere & friendly service.

Probably the best Dim Sum I have ever had. We had all of the classics like shrimp shumai, har gow, sticky rice, garlic squid etc. The pineapple buns were fabulous! Very delicious and very good service. Safety protocols were in place and everyone was checked thoroughly for vaccination IDs. Ambiance was a little noisy but it was a Saturday at noon. We will go back again soon!

Also one three best Chinese restaurants for evening meals in town. I first started going for weekend brunch dim sums 40 years ago, while an undergrad at Carlton and still do, so I've been to all the dim brunches in town when I'm staying in Ottawa and have a clear conscience saying this is #1!

Good food for a reasonable price. I wish they could bring back the dim sum carts again - it would be nice to see the portion sizes of what we ordered. Ended up ordering dishes that were far too big for 2 people alone to share!

Food is alright, but service is quite slow. Servers appear to be confused about the menu items by not knowing details about ingredients. Pricing is based on groups, but separate dishes available as add ons.

The food here is good, this is definitely one of the better Chinese restaurants in Ottawa. The restaurant is very large and so is the menu.

My one problem with this place is a few of the servers are very rude. If the food has gone bad, literally stinks, then that’s the way it is and I shouldn’t order it next time. If they charged me wrong or added extra dishes by accident, then it’s my fault and I should’ve checked it myself.

My mom and I went for our first indoor dim sum since pre-COVID times last weekend. I live in New York and was back home for a few days. The dim sum we got served at Yangtze last weekend was the best I've ever had there (we've been going to Yangtze my whole life, 30+ years), and also outshone my usual places in New York.they seem to be firing on all cylinders right now, so definitely pay them a visit if it's been awhile.

Very spacious for those worried about illness.

Their food is always good, never seen a lot of vegetables, maybe I'm ordering the wrong things? Their sake was just ok.

Typical Chinese restaurant, but the food is not the best and on the greasy side. I would not go back.

Delicious food, excellent service—an institution. Had the shrimp har gow, pork shiu mai, shrimp stuffed eggplant, beef with onions and garlic, steamed rice, and tea. All the classics. Loved it. They were careful about following all the Covid protocols.

This place is amazing! It was my Bachelorette and something went wrong with our original restaurant, the owner of nail salon we were at recommended we go to this place. Not only did they take 10 people last minute but had us seated right away and all together at a large table. The food was incredible and large servings! The drinks were generous and the Waitress guided us on how what and how much to order. I highly recommend and will be coming back to this hidden gem.

I have been going here since I was 4 years old. This is still one of my favourite dim sum places to go out to eat with my friends or family. The food is great, the selection is great, the service is pretty good and the pricing isn't bad. Great place to go if you are craving some siu mai!

Excellent place to go for dim sum. There are options for any dim sum lover and the service was both fast and friendly. For the quality of the food the pricing is very reasonable. The portions are very generous and the pork shumai was one of the best I have ever had. Everything tasted fresh and was full of flavour. We definitely will be returning again.

Delicious Cantonese dinner fare with all day dim sum that is well made. Both the har gow and siu mai tasted fresh with good mouth feel. Stir fried pea leaves were fresh with a crunch. Sweet & sour pork had a nice tangy flavour and the battered pork with a very slight crisp. The “wet” shrimp omelette was silky and well flavoured. Beef brisket with bean curd sheets could have had a bit more meat than tendons. Having steamed rice served in a large bowl was a bit of nostalgia. Can’t wait to come back to try more of their dim sum.

Absolutely terrible service, the lady short hair and glasses will make sure you have a terrible experience. Not mentioning the food is so mediocre. They have a great location and a loyalty from a lot of customers, imagine if the food was great and awesome service. Time to think about how you run your business. Maybe sell the location and serve people in Ottawa the dim sum they deserve.

I went with 3 people, and the bill only came to 93 dollars+ $20 tip, and we were full and happy. These dim sum restaurants are a hit or a miss and always have been a hit for me.

Why is the female server with short hair and glasses have so much attitude? Been eating here since 2015, and they have been so disappointing the last few times. I pray to not have that woman serve me, because whatever goes wrong it will be the customer’s fault. Entitled much.

We love dim sum so we've tried just about every joint in Ottawa — these guys are either better or head and shoulders better than all others.

I've went there once at night and the service was horrible. The server did not come to our table for almost 30 minutes despite the restaurant almost empty, and they served the customers who showed up after us, who were sitting right behind us. They completely ignored us.
We wanted to order dim sum and they did not mention that we had to write it down, they just gave us the menu without saying a word.
When we got our orders, I questioned some items because they were different than what is described, and the server was really rude and condescending.
I'll never go there again, their service was garbage.

Very decent food, nothing compared to Toronto or Montreal. If service was actually good then I’d give 4 stars. The waiters and waitresses think they run the show, bad attitude, and it’s the customer’s fault if they make a mistake.

Service is very unfriendly and cold each time I have been. Very rude and seems bothered by any question we may have about the food. I have been laughed at by a hostess before for asking a question about a dish. A lot of the food is clearly heated from frozen and not fresh (such as the spring rolls). Dim sum is fine, but not the best in Ottawa. They have a good deal on peking duck.

They have been opened since 1982; that’s 39 years! Their steam rice rolls, shrimp shu mai, shrimp ha gow, peppersalt egg tofu, jellyfish, chicken feet and beef tripe is our family favourite. Thank you for staying open!

I've been going there for years. The
best sticky rice wrapped inside the leaves but it's getting smaller each time.

Dim Sum here is good and the staff are friendly and helpful. You wont leave hungry! It can be bust so I suggest a reservation.

I was impressed by the fact there was a gluten free menu on the table when I got seated. Cantonese restaurants don't often offer this option. However, I doubt I will go back. It took 20 minutes for a waiter to come to to our table. When he did take our order, he barely even talked and was surprisingly unfriendly, and then disappeared. He never came back to check if everything was ok.

The food was delicious and in good portions. It didnt cost us an outrageous amount per person. Only complaint is they took a little long to come around a couple times, but would go again.

Hands down the best spring rolls in the city if not the universe— never order just one. I also like the moo shu pork, eggplant in black bean sauce, Shanghai noodles, stir fried broccoli— but really you can’t go wrong— Yangtze is the best Chinese in town in my opinion

The dumplings were excellent! Highly recommend their dim sum. Couldn't give 5 stars though because our first waiter was actually not great, he was kind of rude actually.but he must have finished his shift because we had a second waiter attend to us half way through our dinner and he was very nice. Still recommend this place. Very yummy.

Yangtze is an excellent, large chinese restaurant and institution in Ottawa. Dim Sum is excellent, as is the entire menu. Large tables can easily accommodate large families and groups.

Don’t call for delivery, more than 75% of the time they refuse to deliver and when they agree it takes more than an hour.

Great restaurant for Dim Sum. The decor is somewhat dated and parking is hard to find, however the food and service more than meet expectations.

I really like the dim sum at this place. It's by order but available even at night. They can be a bit stingy with the hot sauce, but that may be because I need a lot of that in general.

Their dumplings are slightly larger in size than some other places so it is generally more cost effective.

My girlfriend and I have been going here for years, decades in fact. Today we went in for congee and the servers were a bit abrasive which was a bit odd but we didn’t think much of it. After we finished our meal the server brought our bill and began to berate us that next time we can’t dine in if that’s all we’re going to order. She returned and shoved the menu in our faces pointing her finger at the bottom of the menu where it said 10$ per person minimum. Now they could have just as easily charged me the 10$ per person and I wouldn’t have cared, but instead we were very rudely chastised. It’s a shame the quality of service is so poor but I guess this will give us an opportunity to explore other restaurants as we will not be returning or recommending Yangtze to anyone anymore.

Some of the best Peking duck I've ever had. Spacious restaurant with an exhaustive menu and dim sum service at lunch, highly recommend!

Great spot to eat I was in Ottawa for work and found this place and tried it. I love hot and sour soup and this place has a great dish. Menu is great service fast and friendly.

I live in Vancouver, to probably unfair to compare Chinese restaurants in Ottawa. It was fine. The pea-tips were not a little over-cooked, which pretty much ruins them. Shiu Mai was nice.

So disappointing. I eat here all the time and love, love the food when we.eat in. This time we ordered take out and shame on you Yangtze.the food was barely editable as it was old reheated more than once food, we couldn't even chew the chicken. We paid over $100 for our take out. It's the last time we order take out because it's obvious they just give you left overs. Rita H

Came to the restaurant for dim sum, I'm from Toronto - hands down the best dimsum I've ever had. Definitely coming back with my husband. The staff were super attentive which is hard to find in busy dim sum restaurants. Food was 11/10!

I've recently returned to this place with an early morning crave of dimsum.

I was greeted by a front of house staff and a half empty restaurant. I requested for a window side table (there was just 2 of us) but the staff was very adamant about letting me know how the restaurant is very busy in the morning and I can sit in a 2 seater nearby. While I am fine with seating elsewhere, there were many other windowside tables who had 2 customers only. The staff continued being rude and as we were about to just walk off, the owner came over and apologized.

We continued with our dimsum order. The variation of food that was brought out was disappointing. Variation was more focused to a brunch hour slot as opposed to a breakfast slot. Many items were only being brought out when we were about to leave, around noon.

Sure the price is pretty affordable, but I would never come back here for the food or having to be served the way I did again.

If there was a chance to give a negative rating, I would.

Not a place you'll often see Asians eating at. Very westernized. Not as authentic as it used to be. Prices are more expensive than other restaurants

This is the best can't-go-wrong choice for Chinese food in the Ottawa area. It lacks the more authentic dishes that some of the other smaller local restaurants have but makes up for it in the quality and consistency of it's regular menu. Service is always quick and attentive. It's probably only one of three local Chinese restaurants that is banquet sized with great traditional decor. I've been there many times before with family and friends and will likely be returning there again.

Large menu of the usual Chinese fare. Food was good but nothing special. Service was good but nothing special. Plenty of room for large groups.
