First time ordering takeout from here. Was friends' recommendation, but I didn't like the food. All dishes looked alike. Not appetizing. Might have been better if we had eaten in the restaurant.
We love going to this restaurant for amazing Chinese food; their dishes remind us of the Chinese we used to get back home. Flavourful and mouth watering. Their hot and sour soup and chilli beef are a must try.
I visited Yueh Tung for the first time with a group of seven. The service was excellent. The waiter was always forthcoming with information about the dishes, whether it was spicy, fatty, etc. He was friendly and helpful. The restaurant was quiet at the time so I was happy about that. The most important part was the food. I am always skeptical about this cuisine but it was amazingly delicious. There was something for everyone. For me, it's an hour and a half drive through busy traffic to get there, but it's worth the drive. Will happily recommend it to friends and family.
The Manchurian chicken and crispy ginger beef where our favourites! We also got to chili chicken chowmein and hakka sweet soy which were also good. We got take out and the food kept well!
Chili chicken was overrated. The fish fried rice was salty and not very good either. One of the waiters waved us off when a friend was trying to ask for something. NICE!
Awesome & authentic Nepalese food run by a whole generation of immigrants. One of the best places for the cuisine in Toronto. On top of all that, the food is amazing value. 10/10 would recommend.
The servers were nice, but I honestly found the food to be terrible. It was incredibly salty, and made me feel very bloated the next day. I also had an upset stomach too from the food.
My favorite go-to spot for authentic Chinese and Hakka food. Their chili chicken (dry) is to die for. Super friendly staff and very fast service. One of my friends who used to live in Toronto but now moved to Winnipeg, always go here for food whenever he's in town!
So happy to return to the Yueh Tung dining room again! We ordered the Chilli Chicken (extra spicy) to which the chef added finely chopped green chillies. It was amazing. We also ordered the sizzling Chilli Beef, which was cooked to perfection and stunningly presented. We are more than grateful to the wonderful staff and the genius Master Chef behind the YT experience!
I had high hopes but the chili chicken really disappointed. It wasn’t spicy at all and I couldn’t really tell what flavor it was going for. Even tho it was doused in sauce, it still tasted bland. The redeeming part is they gave huge portions for a cheap price.
Having had Hakka food from various restaurants. I must say the food was very disappointing. We ordered their "Hakka Tofu", "sweet soy Hakka Noodles", Cantonese noodles, hot and sour soup and Manchurian chicken. The bill came up to above $100, the response from management was that I should be able to cook it slowly at home. I suppose if that is the quality offered, I cld have made it at home and enjoyed it better for a fraction of the price. Mind you the waiters & rest of the service staff were great. Just surprised and disappointed that the management or owners response was for the customer to make it at home. The food tasted bland and looked put together with lots of starch. Photo of starch blob from the soup.
I'm from Scarborough and there's a lot of Hakka places here, but Yueh Tung is in my opinion better than all of the ones Hakka restaurants I've tried in Scarborough.
My favorite dish is probably the crispy beef, get it if you like sweet meat. The Chilli chicken and Manchurian chicken are also good.
Side note: My friend who is a regular emphasized not to get gravy with the dishes that contain it, so I guess if it's your first time, avoid the gravy.
I am waiting patiently for covid to be over so I can come back to yueh tung. Their chilli chicken and the hot sauce is amazing. I love their friend rice too. If you are vegetarian I recommend the chilli tofu!
This is the closest I've found for Indian style Chinese. The Chilli Chicken was amazing. Chicken Manchurian was so good. But I want that with lots of gravy the next time! We also ordered a dish with Pork Belly and It didn't disappoint. The Pork Belly was soft, & juicy. It was perfect! Keep up the good work. Please don't let the quality come down ever!:)
The public is often asked to support local businesses, but when we do, we get sub-standard food like I did with Yueh Tung. Mind you, we are all experiencing the financial crunch in varying degrees so why don't these local businesses also feel for their customers and continue to offer "decent food" like they did during the pre-pandemic? I have been a loyal customer at this restaurant over past 20 years, but got stale fried rice once and another time got left over, chilly fried chicken. Just 'coz its pandemic, Yueh Tung needs to stick to their standards and not deteriorate. Remember, money is tight for all of us, not just you! A very dissappointed customer.
My family has been going here since they opened way back when. The food here has stood the test of time (or so I am told). Their food is amazing, always made fresh and quite affordable. The restaurant is kept well and the staff is always friendly. We always bring family here when they come to visit from abroad. Would definitely recommend to anyone.
Mouthwatering nice food will always tickle your mood and indulge your taste buds. Type of desi Chinese. Must try their chilli chicken and is your are a seafood lover then definitely order chilli shelless shrimp. I love almost everything they serve. Miss dinning there but still you can do pickup and get deliveries. Nice staff and good hospitality.
Family owned local spot for Hakka food. The comforts of home cooked without having to cook. The Manchurian chicken or Chilli chicken are my go to dishes. Try it dry without the sauce.amazing experience for the senses.
Iconic Chinese Hakka Restaurant in the heart of downtown Toronto. Never a disappointment. Got to pick up their world famous chili chicken for dinner tonight before welcoming in the New Year! Delicious as always.
I have been coming to this restaurant for decades now and always look forward to the great food, friendly staff and seeing the owner after all these years. I really felt bad for them last night New years eve.unfortunately they seemed under staffed. I put my order in at 4 pm and was told it would be ready at 6: 15.when I came back there was a mob of hungry impatient people like my self still waiting for their take out orders.now it 8: 30 pm still not ready and the staff is in panic. I couldn't even get an update or get through on the phone to see what was going on.so unfortunately I abandoned my efforts and went else where also I didn't want to stand with 15 other people not practicing social distancing upstairs.my recommendations is to have better systems and more staff in place perhaps.
Horribly managed front of house. Waited over 2.5 hours in the restaurant after the pick up time I was told (2 hrs after I ordered). Repeatedly asked for an update on how much longer, gave my name multiple times to check on the status, and each time they told me to keep waiting. Finally was told that my order was given to someone else (!), and the only option was to rummage through other orders not yet picked up and backfill what they could (!). Wish I had a time machine to warn my younger self to stay away. If you feel like rolling the dice on whether you'll eat even remotely close to the time you hoped then give this place a try! I'm personally staying away until time machines are invented and suggest you do the same.
Have been craving hakka like crazy after moving away from Markham and also being 7 months pregnant.stopped by for a quick lunch with my fiancee and we were very impressed both by the cleanliness and design of the restaurant, the speed and courtesy of service, and the delicious food.
We ordered the chili chicken on rice (because we heard incredible things) and the crispy beef (not on the lunch menu). And both got our mouths watering and bellies very full by the end.
Would 100% come back to try more of their specials!
The service was great and our server was not only polite but helpful when we were undecided on what to get. The crispy beef is one of my favorite dishes that I've had all year and the chili chicken has such a nice tenderness and flavour to it. Overall I was very satisfied with the quantity and quality and the price was very fair for the amount of food we got.
Decided to try Yueg Teng restaurant after hearing great things about it, went for lunch on Saturday, ambience and decor was very nice and inviting. Service and knowledgeable staff. Tried the Chilli chicken with egg fried rice and a spring roll. Chilli chicken was mediocre, was very disappointed considering this restaurant is famous for their chilli chicken dish. I have had much better.
Came here to try some Chilli chicken and some egg Foo young. I wish there were more sliced Chilli on the Chilli chicken and that it's dryer so it's crispier. The egg Foo young was very fluffy but I could do without the brown sauce. We ordered the corn chicken soup upon recommendation from the server, which was a winner. We also ordered some noodle with garlic and I would pass on that for some sweet soy noodle.
I usually order the chili chicken or manchurian chicken. My go to place for hakka downtown toronto. But there arent any other options in the area (that i am aware of). Large portions, decent flavours; could be spicier.
Hands down the best Chinese restaurant downtown! All of their dishes are really delicious and the portions are very generous as well. Not to mention the price is good too! Worth every dollar that you pay for. Definitely try their Chili Chicken when you stop by!
We went on Sat night thinking Blog TO swears by this place so there has to be something good. We ordered Chicken Chilli and Pakoras along with the Chicken Fried Rice. The food was bland, over priced and no sign of Chilli in there! It was a horrible experience. Will not be returning back!
All the dishes were pretty yummy. We had 12 ppl and the older waiter handled our group professionally. Recommend the sweet soya noodles, fried rice, the pork belly (so tender and fatty), and the lemon chicken (the sauce is addicting).
At 2 minutes walking distance from the Hilton double tree. It's a great place for ours business lunches. No reservations needed, even if the place is busy. We where able to be seated everytime on arrival. Lunch menu has choices for everyone. Tastes are great, portions are perfect, the staff is friendly and the service is fast and professional. It's our favorite place downtown for ours lunches.
I have been going there for past 12 years. Prices have gone up but so as at other places. Food quality and quantity are still the top notch. Keep up the good work.
I visit here every so often. Food is always good. I've only ever ordered the chili tofu but it's good every time. They give you a lot of food for a very low price. Lunch time is almost always busy so get there early.
Super attentive and nice staff. The food was nice and came at a good pace. The decor was nice and kept traditional. The location is also nearby the city centre. Nice place overall.
This place is home to the second best chilli chicken I've ever had. Not bad considering I've been all over Asia and the GTA trying balls foods haha! Get the chilli chicken sizzler and you will not regret it. In fact, you're welcome. I also recommend the hakka soya noodles. The hakka pork belly underwhelmed a bit but overall decent price portions and great taste! The waiter was nice though BIG barrier of communication, it happens. Guess that makes it even more authentic in a way haha. Great hakka spot 5/5!
Went there for lunch today with a large group. Our server was amazing. He is funny and made the experience even better. The food was delicious. Fairley priced and arrived relatively quick, considering the size of our group and the lunch hour rush and packed restaurant. Will definitely go there again.
Normally, this is our favourite family restaurant but we had a not so good experience recently. Our waitress seemed really unimpressed about serving us. It was just not in keeping with the usual great staff personalities we have grown to love.
This was the worst customer service experience ive ever had at any restaurant. I ordered a Manchurian fish chow mien, the waitress misunderstood me and thought I ordered Manchurian fish by itself. When I brought up this error with her, instead of apologizing and admitting her mistake, she blamed it on me and said the order was already made and refused to take it back or have it exchanged. I would have complained to her manager but she didnt speak English all that fluently and looked like an immigrant middle aged woman trying to make a living to feed her kids and reminded me of my mother so I didnt want to get her in trouble and make her lose her job. But Yueh Tung restaurant, if you read these reviews, please train your staff better and teach your staff what customer service is.
Best Chinese food in Toronto, hands down. Great service. The only thing is that every so often you'll go when nobody is working and everyone is on break, or a new chef, and your food will be decent, but not as amazing as usual.
