Always love coming here when I'm in the area. You absolutely have to try the shiso mojito if you live Japanese mint!
13 October 2023 23:53
Went here again over the weekend and had a blast! The mega calpico sour was delicious and all of the assorted food!
13 October 2023 21:51
Super friendly atmosphere! Only take away is maybe the portion sizes could be a bit bigger. Thanks for a great dinner!

I just had some yakitori at this place for the first time and I'm truly impressed. Excellent food, excellent service and quite a charming vibe going on. The prices are a bit on the high side but that's to be expected. Truly an original Japanese barbecue experience.
04 September 2023 20:46
They have a great variety of options to pick from. The food was great and so was the service. Will definitely visit again.
14 June 2023 6:12
Amazing quality of food and their Mojito was refreshing. It was so good that I ended up paying a big bill cuz we kept ordering but oh well, worth it

First time to the Queen St location of this well reviewed izakaya, the Carlton St location never disappoint, this one is still able to keep most of the positivities, except 1 dish (grilled rice ball) was super salty and we had to send it back. Other than that I find ambience and seating better than the other location, not as loud, and actually able to talk and not feel as cramped and rushed (maybe because we went on a Sunday evening).
30 May 2023 8:51
Excellent service. Friendly staff and we got a nice table right in front of the cooking area. The rice balls were too salty and we end up sending them back. The staff redo and they are perfect. Will definitely go back.
22 May 2023 13:57
I really like the food here. They come in small portions so you have to order a lot. They have 2 locations, so you make sure to call in advance to see if the line is too long, you can go to another location.

We made a reservation and was served by Su. We had an amazing experience, and Su made sure to explain what each dish was and what it paired with. He also made recommendations that did not disappoint. He was extremely friendly and cared for our time. Would definitely come again in the future!

Great atmosphere, grilled meats, drinks and music. We came for dinner on a Friday, busy but we got lucky finding a table. Great selection of grilled meats, we got different types of pork, beef, chicken and fish. Not many veggies to choose from. Cocktails were delicious - we got Cassis Grapefruit and Lychee Grapefruit. They were playing late 90s- early 2000s r&b/hiphop so you could dance while eating:)
13 June 2022 14:57
Amazing for snacks with friends, and incredibly reasonably priced. If you have any experience with Japanese charcoal grill, Zakkushi is the place to go in Toronto.
05 June 2022 15:43
Yuzu soda - beautiful yuzu aroma and refreshing. Wish it had slightly stronger yuzu taste though

Premium skewer set - unfortunately all the meat was not seasoned so it didn't taste like anything. The Wagyu meatball was too salty.

Takoyaki - this was yummy.

Mushroom skewer - comes with one mushroom cut in half. Grilled to perfection but only one mushroom? C'mon.

Tofu skewer - needs seasoning.

Mochi skewer - needs some sort of sauce

Overall, this place isnt great value. It's a great vibe and staff are nice but very disappointed because none of the skewers really had the charcoal flavor I was looking for and it as also not seasoned. Wouldn't return.
23 May 2022 11:33
Love the atmosphere here - super fun with a group of people or a fun date. Food is great! Just go and experience it yourself!

Recommend the premium set over the zakkushi set as more quality for your buck. Their mentai carbonara udon is so good and creamy. Karaage don is also worth it, chicken is so crispy and flavourful. Don't forget the Oden, super nice to share on a cold night.
17 April 2022 12:08
Me and couple of my friends had a blasting time at this location. Food are so delicious and you can tell it is daily fresh. Great place to hangout have couple drinks. Highly recommended. Love the Mentai Carbonara Udon
14 April 2022 22:58
Had a lot of fun at this place. Drink some beer and started ordering like its ayce. The price was reasonable for the quality. I highly recommend premium platter and the wagyu balls and free range chicken skewer. Some menu items comes in sea salt variant and i would recommend trying some of that because teriyaki sauce will make everything taste similar to teriyaki sauce.

Take Out: The take out was okay, slightly overpriced for bar food, but I would still go back once indoor dining becomes available. Their duck was very overcooked to the point where the natural flavour of the duck was gone. However, their cheese tsukune was quite good! This food pairs best with an alcoholic beverage, so it may not be the best for takeout, unless you have drinks at home. Overall it was okay, but I am more interested in dine-in as their sake selection looked pretty good. Hope to try again once dine-in becomes available.

The food is amazing especially the beef is one of the best in Toronto. The beer is also fresh. A great memory served my trip in Canada.
23 January 2022 22:31
The atmosphere of this restaurant reminded me of Japan, and it was really nice!

The food is great. If you're looking for a great tasting yakitori spot, please go here. You're probably not going to regret it. They've got that smokey flavour in their food that you're probably looking for and they have a lot of interesting menu items. Their drinks are pretty good, and I believe they have seasonal drinks that they change up from time to time.

Their side dishes are okay. I think the consensus that I have with the people I dine with is that the noodles are a little salty, and so are some of their other prepared dishes, but if you're looking for something like a grilled fish or any grilled meat, you're not going to go wrong (unless you're not into their more exotic menu).

Had the tofu and shiitake skewers which were both delicious! The shiitake skewer tasted quite meaty which was delightful to enjoy.also had the ankake tofu which came in a sizzling hot bowl it was extremely hot but after it cooled down it was very tasty! Last thing I had was the veggie tempura Don which was accompanied by a thick tempura sauce which was very deep in flavour.all in all very good vegan options!

Phenomenal experience as a last minute dinner choice. The host was accommodating being fully booked and in current times of limiting space however she got us in.
Gabby our server was charming, gracious and willing to help thru the menu items and choices.
Meal was superb and served quickly following drink choices.
Everything spot on.
Dinner for 2 a $100 affair with basic drink choices.

Oh yeah, just as a word of caution, this place can get loud as the hostess tends to announce new guests with great zeal of shouts thru the restaurant which can startle unsuspecting patrons:)

Finally knocked this one of the bucket list

Ordered edamame as an appetizer to share and Mentai carbonara udon + Zakkushi set (skewers)

Friend ordered yakitori don

Everything came out fairly quickly but the skewers did take longer, not sure if it was normal or if they forgot

The udon is filling as it is a thicker noodle, flavour was wonderful

Loved the skewers, they have many types to choose from that weren't in the set.

Skewers in the set as follows from the left;
Chicken Thai with Teriyaki
Chicken Thai with Pram and basil sauce
Juicy crunchy pork
Garden wrapped with pork
Beef with Japanese radish with ponzu

Can't wait to come back.

Super good food and the wait staff was super friendly and attentive without being overly attentive.

Looovvveee this place! Great food, wonderful staff and nice atmosphere on weekend nights. Restaurants like Zakkushi set the bar high for food service hospitality.
18 August 2019 18:39
Had high expectations cause regularly go to the other location closer to yonge and college.staff here are friendly but need to be trained better.

My partner and I ordered their chicken and rice bowl that we've had many times before at the other location. Mine came with an overcooked egg and hers did not come with an egg at all. I mentioned this to them that she required an egg for her order and that I would like a replacement. It took about 5-7 minutes of trying to explain to the server my issue. Eventually they came with her egg (that she initially never got) and my replacement egg. However once we got the bill we were disappointed to see we were charged extra fees for both eggs even when it wasn't our fault. Wish they would have done better for us that day.
09 August 2019 21:08
Food is as good as always. I used to go to their Carlton location a lot, now I have another reason to visit them more! I go there frequently enough to order without checking their menu:)
10 July 2019 20:44
Food is awesome. The beef tongue was amazing, better than the gyubee imo. The price is a bit high but you get the quality here. The atmosphere was nice even though I had to sit right beside the entrance
03 July 2019 9:24
Everything was good. The service, the atmosphere, the selection. But really pricey for what it is. Not a place to go to if you're hungry unless you don't care about value. 1 star off simply because of the prices.
26 June 2019 15:17
Very fun welcoming and rambunctious atmosphere!

The staff and everyone who work here are super friendly and helpful.

Food was amazing quality and delicious. Only reason I am giving three stars is because the price for the small portions you receive is definitely not worth it and a bit misleading based on the images of the food that you see on the menu.

For first timers like myself and my date we were very enticed by the pictures of the food we saw on the menu. And when it all was brought to the table, we were very much in shock of the small portions compared to the images on the menu!

No doubt the quality was top notch and it tasted great! Just wish it was more clear on what your getting. Seems like a little bit of false advertising based on the menu pics.

Very fun and outgoing staff though. Enjoyed my time spent there yesterday.
23 June 2019 8:51
This new location doesn’t have a long waiting list like the one on Carlton St, and the food is great as always. The interior design is much more modern (definitely a plus for me)
17 June 2019 12:32
I've lived in Japan for over 20 years and love Yakitori. Usually when you go to Japanese restaurants in NY, they serve chicken breast or high end steak and claim that it is yakitori. Authentic yakitori style restaurants are few and far between and if you happen to be in this area, you should definitely pay here a visit. The tare & shio based yakitori was on point and the butatori was good. If they had tamagoyaki and agedashi tofu; it would have defintely been a 5 star. I recommend putting this place on your list to visit if you would like a taste from home.
10 June 2019 21:54
This is fun place.

The food is very tasty maybe a little too salty at times. Get a couple rounds of dishes with a partner and a couple shakes later when you get your bill you might be shocked. It’s worth it though.

The service was stellar as expected, if you’ve been to the Carlton location.

I will definitely go back here in the future.
10 June 2019 6:15
I really love Zakkushi having been to their original location on Carlton a few times! Loved the new location on Queen Street. Definitely nicer décor here and more spacious! This is definitely the place to be for authentic yakitori dishes which you can see skewered over a charocoal grilled at the back by the chefs- that’s why it taste so good! This is a great place to come with a group of friends. It was definitely busy when we came on a Sunday night. We ordered a bunch of dishes as we wanted to try a bit of everything here such as the yakitori sets, the mochi cheese skewer, the kawahagi (dried fish w/ spicy mayo), the amazing scallop skewers, ebi mayo, takowasabi and dorayaki matcha ice cream, the black sesame creme brulee and Hojicha pudding were amazing desserts!

These tapas style dishes go so nicely with some refreshing beer options here. They even have Asahi on draft! The Yakitori sets were great because you get to try a variety of their skewers and figure out which ones you want to order. Looking at the menu with all the skewers, it can be a daunting task to decide! The scallop skewers were pretty big and you get 2 of them with each skewer. They were nicely seasoned and was absolutely delicious!

To finish of the delicious meal, we wrapped up with desserts and ordered all their desserts including the dorayaki matcha ice cream, hojicha pudding and black sesame crème brulee. Their desserts were quite good. My favorite was definitely the dorayaki and the matcha green ice cream was quite nice! The black sesame crème brulee was quite interesting and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Overall, a very pleasant meal and really enjoyed my dining experience here. Staff were friendly and attentive. Food was absolutely delicious and service was exceptional! Can’t wait to come back here again!
05 June 2019 11:37
Just as good as Carlton! The food is right on point but the line was crazy and didn't allow for reservations! Hope that changes soon.
30 May 2019 2:44
Really flavorful skewers but could have stayed on the grill just a touch longer to give it a bit of crisp. Otherwise, really enjoyable and great service. Will be back again
22 May 2019 21:29
Easily the best yakitori we’ve had in Toronto! Awesome quality of meats, flawless execution with genuinely friendly staff. As a bonus they’re also family friendly (we were able to fit our Uppababy Vista stroller tableside, which is rare in the area). Will definitely come back.
22 May 2019 3:41
I came to this restaurant after a lot of hype and curiosity. But found this place to be complete garbage. I barely ate any skewers and my bill was $150.
You can easily go to an all you can eat Japanese restaurant owned by Chinese people that gives you better quality with unlimited skewers for $30 ANYWHERE uptown Toronto with bigger tables, better renovation and atmosphere.
$10 for a beef skewer in Toronto is unacceptable.
ANY Japanese all you can eat places that also offers you skewers have way better quality of food for less than 1/6 of the money. Safe your $$$ and stay away from this place!
20 May 2019 3:24
Staff are friendly. Foods are great just like Zakkushi at Carlton. Less people means you have better chance to get your table easier. Go go go!
05 May 2019 20:43
Love this place. Servers are nice and friendly. Yakitori 焼き鳥 is juicy and delicious! I personally recommend chicken heart and Negima with salt. I’ve been to Queen and Carlton and they are both super busy. If you want to make a reservation, you can only make a reservation on weekdays not weekends. ほんとに、日本にいる気分にさせてくれる居酒屋さんで、大好きです!
18 April 2019 6:21
Best place to visit in the area. I am a regular at all Zakkushi brand and you know they are serious about their quality of food and customer service
17 April 2019 13:11
Went here for snacks and wish we were hungrier, there was so many delicious choices! Had the appetizer trio with sake (a steal for $12) with octopus salad, monkfish liver and salmon, delicate bites that were portioned for 1 but could be shared between 2 for a taste each. Small but big on flavour. Also had several skewers ranging from $2-9 each: waygu beef, premium pork, garlic chicken momo and garlic stub wrapped in pork. All delicious. Fast, fun service and clearly fresh ingredients. Everything was served in perfect portions for sharing, and the warm sake was a wonderful floral start and a toasty nutty base. Get it warm for an after dinner digestif or cold as the start to your meal.

Great experience, service was on par, and greeted and said goodbye in an authentic and awesome way. Did add up on pricing so be a tad bit careful but such a great time here. Will be returning, and highly suggest trying it out!
