Best Japanese food in Charlottetown, you will find delicious ramen and amazing sushi! Professional service and waitress is excellent.

It was ok. It's pretty pricey. I will go back and try their elusive ramen. They have a sign outside the restaurant but limited ramen on the menu so I forgot to ask for it.

Peaceful atmosphere & good food & decent prices & kind service make this place a good discovery.

Pretty tasty food but the portions are tiny for how much you are paying. The vegan ramen is amazing! The atmosphere is cute cozy, and elevated. Service is a bit slow though

Real shame that the food was not up to the standard the first time I went.
Soggy batter and over powering fish flavors plus only 2 tiny slices of pork in main dish.

Hojo's is a great spot to hit up if you're looking for some comfort food, whether it's for lunch or dinner. They can be pretty busy on popular nights (Friday especially) so you may want to consider booking a table in advance.

Their vegan ramen is so good and flavorful. I also recommend the vegan gyoza - it comes with a light soy dipping sauce with some spice seasoning in it. All their vegetarian rolls are also delicious!

Love that all ordering is done directly from an iPad - helps both you and the staff know exactly what dish and toppings you'd like, and gives you the option to order more on-demand.

Their food is a bit on the pricier side, however it's not without justification - all their ingredients are super fresh, and they assure you that their staff is paid a fair living wage (they previously wouldn't even accept tips as this is traditional in Japan). Worth the extra cost if you want an authentic, hearty meal.

The food was great, the service excellent, we were very hungry and the food was delivered very fast. Will definitely be back.

Food is absolutely delicious (I couldn't take any pictures because I'd rather enjoy what I am eating), I strongly recommend dynamite sushi, you won't feel disappointed.
Lastly, staff is so friendly, and courteous.

Ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen today. I took one sip of broth and one bite of the pork and was disgusted, so I got up and left with out paying. No way I’m paying or eating trash like that. It’s a disgrace to Japanese people and culture.

The Charlottetown Prince Edward Island Hojos Japanese Cuisine is a great and fantastic place to buy meals and the staff is friendly and helpful too

Really good sushi and an amazing atmosphere. My major complaint however is the wait staff, specifically the local hires. They are often extremely social to the point of badgering. I have left on more than one occasion feeling socially exhausted after being unable to carry a conversation with my sister or eat without the wait staff coming to chat.

At one point I was using my phone and the wait staff came to talk about how "grammable" their food was. I'm all for social wait staff, but this was a lot. Never encountered this at another restaurant ever.tl;dr: Good sushi and great atmosphere if you're willing to pay a little more than the local market average, but the wait staff can be a lot sometimes.

Also some of the deserts are a bit overpriced imo.

If you’re thinking of going, please do it! I wish I could put 10 stars. Everything was perfect! The service is amazing, I literally waited like 5 minutes between drinks, appetizers and foods, and the taste is just outta this world.

This is the best, freshest, most delicious sushi burrito I have ever had. A work of art. Highly recommended.

My wife and I came into town today after a long drive from Ottawa, to Riviere du Loup and then finally PEI. Upon arrival we searched out all 3 of the best sushi restaurant and although they all had great ratings. I went with Hojo's Japanese Cusine simply on instinct.
My instinct has never steered me wrong and it was right on point with the selection of this particular sushi restaurant. Some restaurant gives you a mouth full of rice and calls it sushi? This was not the case here the sushi was light, well prepared, and tasty. I am in town for another 3 days and will have to try another sushi restaurant but so far Hojo's has my vote for the best sushi, not just in Charlotte Town but Hojo's sushi rivals some of the best I have had through all my travels. If I could give 6 stars I would but as it stands 5, is all I can give.

Frustrating lunch take-away experience
When I came to the shop and said order take away. The staff gave me the menu and I ordered lunch ramen which price at $11. But the bill said $18! I asked the staff what's the reason, he said the price for dine in.and the ramen charged $18 with bigger portion. I told him that I don't need any bigger portion but lunch ramen portion. He said no such option. But day 1, he showed me the lunch menu and never said that no applicable! What a frustrating lunch experience I had!

Great, fancy place with friendly staff and very convenient when it comes to ordering things on the menu, especially because they give you a tablet to order anything you want. For someone who feels shy talking to servers when ordering, it is awesome. The sushi is the best I have ever tasted, I just wish it would come with ginger on the side. I have tried the ramen and udon here and I must say it doesn't taste the freshest. If you take a vegetarian one it's very good, but any of the ones with meat have a very strong taste of old meat, and so it isn't very pleasant. This doesn't mean the meat is rotten, it's just most likely frozen.
Overall great place for quality sushi, and decent price for what you get. It is about $1 every sushi, but it's going to be the best you'll ever have. I can recommend the salmon rolls and the vegan miso ramen.

I had a very good experience, the ramen was very good despite all of the negativity surrounding it. Seriously probably the best thing on their menu.

Incredible food and atmosphere- we ordered the fire roll, vegan gyoza and the albacore tuna nigiri. All was very fresh tasting and flavourful and the food came out at a great pace. We also ordered the vegan ramen and the spicy miso ramen and both were incredible! Would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for Japanese food in Charlottetown!

I've been to a lot of Japanese restaurants - both in Japan and Canada - and this one is extremely disappointing. The biggest drawback is the food's exorbitant price tag. Chirashi sushi costs $30 CA when similar restaurants in Downtown Charlottetown offer it for $20 CA or less, and the cheapest ramen on offer costs $16.00 (dinner) without add-ons when you can get a bigger, heartier, more authentic bowl at Buta Ramen in Halifax for $14.95. Considering you're not paying for better quality, taste, or bigger portions, this price feels more than a little unfair.

The atmosphere is also okay, but definitely not "haute cuisine" as the marketing implies. The service isn't great either. The electronic touchscreen feels contrived, especially when we're expected to tip 15% in Canada and therefore expect the waiter/waitress to provide full table service. Electronic touchscreens are used to order food at an izakaya (Japanese pub) in Japan, but that's because those establishments are extremely busy, trying to accommodate as many customers as possible, and don't expect any tips for service.

If you're looking for quality Japanese food at a decent price, try elsewhere.

Best sushi I’ve ever had, the rolls were fantastic but the local tuna nigiri put it well above anywhere I’ve ever been in Canada or Europe. As good as the sushi was the spicy miso ramen definitely stood out as the star. 100% would recommend to anyone travelling to PEI or Atlantic Canada. This is a must stop spot.

Very average ramen. The noodles are not ramen noodles and broth is salty and oily. Sashimi and sushi rolls are better than the ramen for sure

Great food, service was excellent. I'm torn on whether I like the iPad ordering or not. Works great for one bill and one person ordering a selection of items though! Could use a feature to split up items into groups.

Great place where you can find a good variety of appetizer, sushi, sashimi and their speciality the Ramen. The broth is made using water and chicken, pork meatbones and they don’t use MSG. You can order your food through a tablet and the service is very fast.

Only spot to get good ramen that I know of on PEI and they make their own noodles from scratch, need I say more? All the sushi is superb too

Most amazing Japanese food I've ever eaten. Staff are amazing, flavors are clean and every dish I've eaten has been a winner. Their raw offerings in particular are perhaps the best I've ever had.

Baked seafood roll. Order that. Tempura and ramen average. The cheap sake is smooth and sweet, good.

Shared a wonderful bowl of soup (with extra side of noodles) with my daughter for lunch. So tasty. The pork was superior (needs more!).

Note that they close after lunch and reopen for dinner. Casual to formal environment with professional service. Good for a date night.

Everything you could want in a Japanese restaurant. Wìll be going there every time I go to Charlottetown.

Go here whenever in town! Great food and tons of selection of Japanese cuisine all well done. Ordering is done with an iPad which is fun and easy

Absolutely excellent food. Some of the best in Charlottetown. Classy venue and friendly service. Price point is on the higher end but relative to the rest of Charlottetown's offerings, it's very good value for money. Highly recommended.

Friendly service and nice layout. The food was pretty good and came as expected.

The general entrance is up a flight of stairs, but I believe it would be wheelchair accessible due to the mall entrance.

A downside to this spot is the washrooms being outside the restaurant and down the hall. It's basically just the building washroom. For the vibe they're going for, it's kind of odd.

The only other off thing was the tempura veg- the sweet potato really wasn't cooked. Not the end of the world but odd.

Overall pretty good and good for a group. We had lots of dishes and they all came out in a timely matter.

Went to Hojo's on the recommendation of basically everyone I know. Expectations were high and I was not disappointed. The restaurant has had a significant makeover from it's past life and looks much better. The ordering process is done on a tablet that you keep, you can add things as you want / need and the attentive staff will bring it over right away. We had misou ramen and pork broth ramen. The roast chicken and pork belly in the ramen was so tender you could split it with the chop sticks. The broth was obviously made with love and skill. We also had a few sushi roles that were excellent, I would say better than some of the other local shops.
This place is on par with some of the nicer Japanese places I've tried in much larger cities.
I wish I had taken pictures but I was so focused on how good it was that I forgot. Oh well, maybe next time since I will definitely be back.

The food was good and there was a decent variety of options, however, the prices are not reflective of the food you would expect. Though you are not expected to tip, the prices are still too high for basic sushi and ramen. Also, staples of a ramen dish, such as the boiled egg are an extra cost of $2 for an already expensive $16 and up Ramen bowl that is half the size of other full fledged ramen boils I've had at other locations. The spicy tuna maki had very little tuna in it. The atmosphere is fantastic and the staff are friendly, I just wish a review of the menu/prices is done to create a reoccurring returning customer out if me, vs a one off visit.

Had the ramen, pork dumplings and spicy tuna rolls. All amazing and fresh and decently priced. In Japanese restaurants there are no tips. They pay their employees more I'm pretty sure. As well the whole menu is on a tablet that you can actually place the order from.pretty advanced for Charlottetown.
