Cashier did not know the difference between a cookie and a muffin, the squares we bought were stale, used to be a once a week visit, have not been back since July,

My husband picked up butterscotch buns, biscuits, and a loaf of bread the other day. The butterscotch buns were heavy and hard, the biscuits had a bitter taste, and the bread (sticker says made same day) was so dry I could hardly cut it. Won't be returning.

We have been visiting this bakery for 8 years, making it a first stop when arriving on the Island to purchase cinnamon rolls. We have purchased three times this year hoping that each time we perhaps just got a bad package but sadly that doesn’t seem to be the case.
The new ownership, while friendly, seem to be getting the look if not the size that the previous owner offered, but they have cut way back on the sugar mostly, as well as butter and cinnamon. We simply are eating dough without flavour.
It’s very unfortunate for loyal customers but certainly an opportunity for another business to step up and offer the original quality. Certainly hope we can find a similar product as we won’t be back.

It appears that the new Indian ownership fired all the bakers and counter staff, replaced them, and are reducing quality of goods of this small PEI locally owned business. Sad for the entire province. I will keep my eye out for other options in Kensington and Summerside. Going forward I will not be purchasing any more goods.

On our annual visit to PEI our friends and us have always looked forward to a 1st and last night supper meal of Mary's Bakery Chicken, garlic cheese bread and cinnamon buns. We expected price increases of course but WOW they beyond skyrocketed. That would have been a shock but ok for a 2 time treat. However, the quality and quantity we expected was definitely not there. Chicken was no where near as tasty and coating wasn't same at all. Bread was almost 1/2 the regular size and no where near as as cheesy/tasty. And cinnamon buns were very dry without nearly as much cinnamon sugar mixture. Warming in microwave didn't even help. We were told by friends after the business is under new ownership. Either the new owners didn't bother to buy the recipes or choose not to follow them to try and cut corners. And did they ever cut corners. So very disappointed. You can't just buy a business name and location and expect people to keep coming if the food quality isn't there.that's what drew people and made such loyal customers. All 4 of us felt the same about the meal we had all looked so forward to enjoying. Beyond disappointed and sending a warning to others.don't spend what we did.it's throwing away money yes but also what had been a great experience for years.

New ownership and unfortunately the quality has gone downhill. The muffins were dated to have been made that same day, but I can’t see how that’s even possible. They were extremely dry and tasted like they came from a bag that you mix with water. The cashier was texting on his phone for our entire interaction. I won’t be returning nor recommending to visitors to PEI. So very unfortunate.

Not sure what happened to their cinnamon rolls. Used to be 2x the size that they are now for the same price. I won't be making as many drives into Kensington as I used too.

Love this bakery! The lemon roll is one of my favorite items. Clean store. Friendly staff.

Don't go for the pie, go for the Cinnamon rolls. They were very very good. But the pastry for the pie was horrific. So much so we pushed through 3/4 of the blueberry, but could not with the strawberry rhubarb. Throwing food out especially pie is awful. Pastry Recipe: 2 cups flour, 1 cup butter (1/2 butter half lard/shortening if you want), pinch of salt, 1tblsp of vinegar mixed with 4 tblsp of ice water. Don't over mix, enough liquid so it just holds together. That's it.

Do not go to Kensington without going to Mary's! Best bakery for quite a ways around. They are busy in the summer so arrive early for your baked goods or call ahead and order. They are seriously the best sweets and bread you will ever eat! Highly highly recommend.
