Excellent! Fish and chips taste fresh and hot even after I was holding them in the box for 20 minutes. Fish was juicy and good quality; the fries don’t look appealing in photos but taste Amazing! I came here because this place is the best priced in town for fried seafood.

The owner calls herself the Queen of fries, and she's probably right. They are the best I've ever had. She says her secret is using the local island potatoes and showing each one love before cutting it up. They don't have the normal mushy texture you get with frozen fries that virtually every eatery uses. Ours were cooked until they were almost crispy on the ends, and while it is surely up for debate that they are the best in the world, they are delicious. The location is right on the water.

The fries were great! Period. The service was a bit rough around the edges, but in the end we enjoyed what might have been the best fries in town.

Honestly, at least they are cheap. You expect to get good fries from a place called chip shack but that is too much of an ask. These fries were horribly burnt

I am missing seeing the owner who used to essentially live here. But it’s good to see that she can take a break every once in a while and trust her staff to do an excellent job just like her. Everyone was professional, friendly, and helpful. The food is great, the homemade french fries with their homemade garlic dip is a must. I’ve been here before and I will be back many many more times.

We ate here twice during our vacation to PEI. Laid-back location is right on the water, people were friendly and helpful, and the GF fish and chips and apple fries are awesome!

Absolutely love Caron's lobster rolls and fish n chips. And always a smile. Food served with love.

Great location on small pier on the harbor.fish and chips were best of our cruise stops. And gluten free was a great added bonus. Owner very friendly. Would return here every visit

Food was okay, but you pay 50$ for 2 plates of styrofoam. Granted it's lobster roll and lobster poutine but still too much in my opinion.

Also, asked for mayo with my fries, they ask a surcharge of 1.50$ for condiments?

Won't be going back there. Still 3 stars cause service was okay and fast and the apple fries are godly

A trip to Charlottetown simply to eat at The Chip Shack is a worthwhile experience. The fresh, hand cut fries are delicious, the lobster roll was the best I'd ever had, and the gravy was spot on. They only take cash, so make sure you come prepared.

Update: visited again in 2022 and they now take debit and credit as payment!

Lobster roll was passable, fish sandwich was tasty but had only mayo on it (and way too much of it). Fries were burnt. If your expectations are low, it should suit your needs.

We went here because Nimrods was closed. The food was okay for something quick but it is nothing special. Fish was very salty and hot dog was basic. Fries okay. I didn't eat the lobster roll but it looked fine. First qualm, attitude of the owner isn't great. One other cause of low rating is the use of giant tiger ketchup and presidents choice cola like someone else mentioned. PSA to the owner, buy Heinz ketchup, Coke, and Pepsi - - people like that and it will help your business. Overall I'd say about 2.5 stars. All things considered, - - food is overpriced, would not recommend to others.

The worst fries we have ever eaten! Over fried in dirty oil! Dark, small little bits of fries, girl recooked the cold fries sitting in the bin. I also watched her cook a hotdog in the microwave and came out shriveled, don’t waste your time or money here! Disappointing to say the least. The lady who takes the orders handles money and then handles food without washing her hands first. In Ontario we have a health and safety board.

Easily the best lobster roll and fish and chips. Best priced, portions and the owner is lovely. 11/10 HIGHLY recommend coming here

I saw this place on the TV show "you gotta eat here" and made sure it was a stop on our travels. It didn't disappoint! The lobster rolls and lobster poutine was amazing! Well worth the $! The ladies behind the counter were pleasant and made you feel right at home. Would definitely come back!

Don’t waste your time and avoid this place. Poutine is mediocre and the wait time is ridiculous because the staff have a terrible system for taking orders. We waited 50 minutes for one regular poutine and people that came after us were served before. Staff are rude and we weren’t even given an apology for them skipping our order.
Being busy does not justify poor service…. I saw a staff member shoo a customer from the shack for asking where their food was.

I would give zero stars if I could.

We shared a meal here over the weekend. The food was fast, hot, and sensibly priced with the chili dog and fries at $9. These were some of the best fries I have had in ages with very tasty gluten free apple fries as a dessert!

Rude lady with a lot of attitude. Charging $20 for a hot dog sized lobster roll that doesn’t even taste good and have zero customer service skills. I would give 0 stars if I could for how she treated us.

Nous avions beaucoup d'attentes, mais les frites étaient sèches, beaucoup trop salés, la sauce était ordinaire et le fromage pas très généreux. Le porc effiloché était réchauffé au micro-onde et n'était pas très bon. L'ambiance de la terrasse est superbe par contre.

We were really looking forward to this after a long drive from Fredericton. Ordered 80$ of food for 5 people. No credit only debit or cash because apparently "small businesses prefer not to take credit". 1 lobster roll (19$) 1 lobster poutine (24$) 1 gluten free fish and chips (12$) and 3 hot dogs and fries (18$) and a beach chair lager (7$). The lobster roll and lobster poutine was all filler no lobster not sure what was in it but didn't taste like lobster (though there were some small pieces of lobster scattered through to legitimize that it was indeed a "lobster roll"). The lobster poutine was way too salty and cold to melt the cheese curds. The hot dogs were for the kids and were what you would expect from a boiled hot dog on a fresh bun. The fish in the glutten free fish and chips was the best thing we ordered. The French fries on their own were good but nothing to come back for. The owner, lady with black hair and large hoop earrings and tattoos (?) who was working there was in a really bad mood shouting at people to pick up their food. Overall sad to say a very disappointing experience.

L’endroit où ce shack est implanté est, il faut l’avouer, superbe. En pleine marina, la série de petits restos flotte et n’attend que de satisfaire notre faim. Toutefois, l’un des endroits que l’on m’avait recommandé était le Chip Shack, réputé pour sa poutine au homard. Évidemment, c’est ce que j’ai décidé de commander. Après environ 40 minutes à attendre mon repas, j’étais prêt à me laisser séduire par cette poutine.

Première surprise, le prix est exorbitant. 24$ pour une poutine que je considère de format moyen, c’est trop cher payé.

Deuxième surprise, la quantité de homard incluse avec la poutine est très petite considérant le prix de 24$.

Troisième surprise, la sauce de la poutine est très salée, ce qui au final est très désagréable au goût.

Bref, trop cher payé pour ce plat « spécialité » de ce mignon restaurant malgré tout. La prochaine fois, je passerai mon tour, malheureusement.

The bread was barely cut to slide in a tiny bit of lobster so it looks full at first glance but then realize you paid for bread. Fries were over cooked. Disappointed

The owner and the two girls are the sweetest the blonde one complimented my eyes, made my day cause I was having a rough week, Great food, It was busy so the food didn’t come for a while, very understandable it’s July 1st and I’ve worked in many fast food places, and it gets hectic on holidays like this! Keep doing the best you can guys! My order was under Troy and I got the hot dog and fries, and my boyfriend got the pulled pork poutine.

Came to this place because it was highly recommended on reviews. It was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had at a quick serve restaurant. It was neither quick nor enjoyable. The poutine ran at $9 which was a great price but it came at the cost of a 50 minute wait, rude staff, being forgotten and having over 6 people that came after me having their food handed to them. The owner of the restaurant kept saying that they were busy and that everyday was like that, yet they haven’t yet figured out a system to serve people during lunch rush. Jotting things down on a dirty notebook and giving 3 orders at a time for the kitchen staff, which was so backed up that nothing was done in the right order. I waited for 50 minutes and when I asked about my food I was told that it was coming up and yet I never received it. I wish it was a better experience but I would highly recommend that as a tourist, you avoid this place.

It was our last day on the island and it was very windy (end of may). There was just one lady in the shack and she was friendly. As we greeted her and talked about the weather, she suggested to maybe eat somewhere with indoor dining area but we said we came to try her food.

Anyhow, we got the lobster roll and chili fries. The lobster roll was just a mix of lobster chunks and shredded lobster, no lettuce nor other vegetables which was amazing! The fries was delicious too, whatever was in the chili was wonderful.

What can I say about the location except being awesome? The chips are amazing, and the lobster roll is top notch. The lobster poutine was really something. Unexpected good.

Friendly staff was a plus. But the amount of lobster in the lobster roll is embarrassing. They barely put it in the roll so it looks like a huge amount until you bite into it and realize it’s a trick. Go elsewhere for your lobster roll.

UNSANITARY - DON’T GO!
The cashier at the Chip Shack prepared the lobster rolls without washing or sanitizing her hands after handling customers’ money! I also saw her picked up a fries that fell on the counter and she put it back on the plate for the customer. I was in shock! How can this business operate like this in COVID times! Even if we’re not in a pandemic, she would not have passed a food safety inspection!
While deciding if we should cancel our order, our food was ready so we were stuck with the food.
The lobster roll was ok, but fries were over fried and very dry, the fish batter were very greasy and no tartar sauce for the fish either. The apple fries were good though.

If you are reading this, stop here and go to the Shack, order the fish and chips and finish with the apple fries.

Hands down, the best fish and chips I've ever had. They are gluten friendly, and you will never know the difference in the batter.

The food was outrageously good, I will never hesitate to recommend this place to anyone visiting the city.

I didn’t want to give the Chip Shack even one star, but you can’t post a review without at least one. I give the Chip Shack zero stars! The place was unsanitary, which should have been our first clue, not to eat there. The ordering service was disorganized; they almost seemed confused. We were told it would be a 20 minute wait, which turned in to a 45 minute wait. Other customers were lining up to complain about the wait. Those that were complaining ended up getting food before us, although we were ahead of several of them. The food was not that great either. My girlfriends lobster poutine had way too much gravy…which was not home made…I saw her opening the package. My pulled pork poutine didn’t even come with cheese curds. When I took it back, they put the curds on, then poured more gravy on to try to melt them. Then I saw her pop it in the microwave. I am the kind of person that hates to waste food, but that could not be called food. The table we sat at had a brochure about the owner and how she takes pride in growing up on a PEI farm. She needs to take pride in her Chip Shack.

Order fish and poutine. Waited over 45 mins for my meal was not told there would be a long wait. The food was good but not worth 45+ minute wait!

Keathan from the Double Decker Bus Tour said these fries were the best - and they were! Service from the ‘Fry Lady’ was fast and friendly and the potatoes had that skin on like I had in my youth. A great treat to end a great tour!

The lady running the place needs to improve the "flow" of her order to delivery - it just seems lost with somewhat simple menu

This is by far the BEST Place to eat! It’s small but mighty tasty for us celiac and Gluten sensitive people out there! Fish and chips and Chicken fingers and Fries were to die for! Definitely a must stop if your in Charlottetown!

All summer I've been on the hunt for the best lobster roll in PEI, and let me tell you this is NOT it. I would place it somewhere between cat food and canned tuna. I'm genuinely not sure if it was even actual lobster. I was with a friend of mine who is a chef, after one bite he claimed it was the worst he'd ever had. I really wanted to like this place. The young lady who waited on us was nice enough, the prices seem reasonable, and the location was great too, but I just can't recommend a place with food this abhorrent. I've had many lobster rolls this year and this was by far the absolute worst.

This is such a cool place on a floating dock licensed so you can have a local beer on the water. The food was good but they were busy and ended up really slow. I think given the size of the kitchen the menu is too big which will kill the timing if the wrong combination of orders hits the kitchen at the same time.

We are locals, and I had a lobster roll, mushy and tasteless, very disappointed as we were originally going somewhere else. I am very annoyed and embarassed that tourists would think this was what our island lobster roll are like! I couldn’t even finish it and I love fresh lobster, this wasn’t fresh! You need to do something about this. I won’t be back!

Totally disorganized. Not super clean either. And, 40+ minutes wait for a simple hot dog a fries. Not that busy and raining out. Would hate to see what this place looks like on a busy day.

She's so friendly. Only reason is wait time. And only reason there's wait time is that she's great. And everybody wants her food.

Great fries. Terrible service. A lot of easy fixes could make the service run better. Wouldn't have been upset over the wait if there wasn't such confusion over orders. People were taking orders left and right whether it was correct and they were letting it happen. Asked for a plate and they didn't have enough to give me one. Will not be going back.

A fun an positive business with amazing friendly staff. Yes, it can be busy but what great-to-eat place isn’t busy. Plan to visit. You will not be disappointed.

Food was amazing. Best fries we’ve had while in PEI! I would highly recommend the pulled pork dog too. The owner was very friendly and willing to offer advice about the local area.

By far the worst meal I have had in all my years in PEI. The lobster roll tasted like other fish, the fries were burnt and greasy, and it was expensive! I would not recommend to anyone and would have appreciated a refund!

I can’t help but suspect they use crab meat in their lobster roll. They have a prime location and use some off the shelf ‘value’ brand mayo, as well as the tartar sauce bought from Walmart. Nothing made in front of me was homemade. Seriously? ! Not hard to make either. Horrible food. As another reviewer stated - ‘catfood’. Wish I could give it ‘0’ stars. Shameful.

We were told 20-30 min wait for food, it took 45-50.2 of the 3 employees were standing around while everyone waited for food. Very inefficient setup apparently. When food finally came out, the fries were burnt, and the ‘fish and chips’ included one small piece of fish. Lobster roll made one of us ill and the pulled pork poutine was a generous serving, but couldn’t eat most of it due to the burnt fries. We wanted to save time by not sitting down at a restaurant. We were both mistaken and very unhappy with our decision.

Must say it was a busy time when we arrived. But while waiting we watched as the person in the front put hot dogs, etc on to cook, wrote something down, went to fridge and moved some items around, closed fridge, took lobster Roll and pushed in lobster with finger, hand it off then pick up our hot dogs, and buns, all with her fingers and put them together. No gloves and not washing her hands once. I won't be back.

Wait was very long, which I didn't mind so much but fish and fries were really heavy, like the grease soaked into them. I've had their food before when they were not on the dock and I liked it then, so maybe now that they're busier they can't can't quite keep up with quality. I'm not sure what changed but there are definitely better places to have fish and chips at.

The chips and lobster roll was really good. Lots of people on the floating dock that day so the wait time was very long. Way to long standing around a chip stand.

I think they can be improved a bit more in taste and a little more improvement in hygiene, staff is courteous though.
