Absolutely amazing atmosphere. Such a cozy and warm restaurant. Great location and really good taste! I love the lightning and menu options. I had great time there!

The taste of the food was the best and of best. However, I didn't understand why they only had tables outside where the sunlight was strong in that hot weather. It would have been better to consider the customer's condition and situation more.

I had the 12 oz steak in medium rare. And I was definitely served for 12 oz steak and in medium rare. One of the best steak in town. The steak is best eaten with their house special sauce. The restaurant has a lot of tables at the inside and outside and it's got a comfy atmosphere. But there is usually a line of people waiting to be seated outside of the restaurant. The servers are slow to accommodate. Oh one more thing. Their kitchen is closed in the afternoon after lunch hours and would be opened again after 5: 30 PM. There are only drinks available for order in the hours when their kitchen is closed.

Excellent repas ce midi avec mes deux copines, nous 3 venues de France pour 15 jours au Québec et ce fut l'un de nos restaurants préférés! Burgers cendrés et joue de boeuf absolument délicieux! Service au top et déco sympa. On recommande.

Dinner with family while on vacation. Steak and escargot both excellent. Awesome service from our waiter and really enjoyed the atmosphere on the terrace. I definitely would recommend this restaurant to anyone traveling to Quebec City.

They are not inclusive to needs of old age people.to give more context to the readers. We were a group of four. My mother who doesn’t eat out was carrying her home cooked food. We intended to enjoy our meal with her. We ordered food and drinks for three of us. Abruptly server asked my mom to leave.
We are in 21st century how can any restaurant be so out of sync to needs of old age people and people from different skin Color, religion, beliefs and communities.

We explained above and the one of lady server said my mom can have the food. Suddenly another server came and asked us out. On being challenged he was visibly annoyed.
Like it or not you are in hospitality industry. You need to cater to needs of different people and that would have demonstrated inclusive behaviour!
Sorry our experience was short of experiencing racism in your restaurant because of your exclusive behaviour!

I’m giving it a 5 because this was some of the best onion soup I’ve ever had! I still think about it… We also got the duck confit pasta which was okay - the meat was great, the pasta was not bad. Ambiance on the side we were on is very moody and romantic, perfect for a date. Definitely get the soup if you go!

We had the table d'hôte here with a nice bottle of wine and our experience was amazing.

Our server was really good and attentive.

French onion soup was good. The tuna tartare was a little small. The chocolate cake was rich but the portion of ice was small. Overall the place was good.

Came here with a tour so not sure if that's why I didn't get the best experience.

Service was alright but I think there was too much people for them to handle as they appeared to be very confused about everyone's order and was all over the place

Great spot. We went in without checking reviews, just the specials board. Great atmosphere. Sat by the windows, near the bar. Staff were super friendly. Had a few draft beers. The grilled salad took a while to arrive and was fine, but not a show stopper. The toasted salmon took longer, but was worth the wait! Cooked perfectly, sauced perfectly, presented well. The veggies and potato were also perfect. The meal really impressed us! And the atmosphere was so nice, we didn’t mind hanging around. Highly recommended

Very friendly staff, and fluent in English. They were very busy at the time of our visit, and we were notified our meal may get ready later than normal. It didn't take noticably longer tough. The foods quality of OK, but not something to remember the place with. The service and atmosphere (if you sit outside) was something more memorable.

Our group of 8 had such a great experience at this restaurant tonight. From our server David to the amazing food, everything was amazing! We would highly recommend.

The Bistro is right across the street from the castle in old Quebec, giving it one of the best views in the city. They have a solid selection of cheeses and cured meats, some of which make an appearance on their charcuterie board. A good place to stop for a quick bite while enjoying old Quebec.

I went to 1640 for the bitter chocolate fondant, and went back again with my family for brunch, and then again for the bitter chocolate fondant and a very good cafe au lait on my last night in the city!

The summer menu is simple, well priced, the portions generous and the food delicious. We ordered the burger and tuna tartare with shrimp tempura. The pictures speak for themselves. Kids had grilled cheese and poutine from the kids menu along with some funky coloured slushies. Everyone was very happy with their plates.

Extra points for presentation and the service was the most pleasant we experienced during our trip to Quebec city. Much better choice than some of the other joints in the area, and right in the heart of the action with a beautiful view of the plaza in front of Chateau Frontenac.

Would definitely go back when we visit next.

This is our go to restaurant in Quebec City. Nice atmosphere and service. I just wish the menu keeps like last year with the soup of the day, the entree bread included in the main. Also, recently the main dish menu has become a bit fast-food pub-like. I wish it can be back to before.

Bon nachos, bon club sandwich. Par contre je suis déçu et choqué! Au moment de préparer boissons et repas, l'équipe des cuisines et du bar enlèvent leur masque de procédure pour les remettre au moment de servir. Nous n'avons pas eu plus confiance en ce pourtant joli petit bistro.

Extrêmement cher pour ce que c'est! 3 piña colada et un plateau de charcuterie (petit) 80$ avec taxes et pourboires. J'aurais mit une étoile mais le service était correct et la nourriture aussi. Mais c'est un attrape touriste. Je ne recommande pas.

La nourriture était bonne mais sans plus, un peu trop cher pour ce que c'était très honnêtement. J'y suis aller en temps de pandémie, 2 mètres peu ou pas respecté avec les places assises. Le service était ok.

Tourist trap. Over inflated prices, servers have no clue what's on the menu or how to come back to the table. 15$ for a Piña colada? Robbery.

The good reviews are 1. People that don't know what they are talking about or 2. They've been paid for the review.

This place is -not- cheap. 50$ for 3 drinks with tip (1 drink was non alcoholic). Service wasn't that great, our server was always gone and we had to grab random ones as they passed. Our server also didn't seem too sure of what was on the charcuterie board (our friends got one, we did not).

An OK restaurant, nothing out of the ordinary or spectacular.

Tonight I attended the 1640 bistro as a group of six, three of them being children. The kids orders were put in first and came out at a reasonable time. The other three came out an hour and a half after we ordered. The food itself was not as enjoyable as I thought it would be, the pork with goat cheese was very mediocre. Our server did not tend to our table very often, and when she did seemed very grumpy and un-interested in tending to our group.

J'ai bien apprécié ma visite au 1640, c'était très bon. J'étais avec toute ma famille et, les enfants ne mangeant pas beaucoup, on m'a arrangé un repas qui me permettait de prendre un bon repas en famille sans que ça me coûte les yeux de la tête. C'est très apprécié, merci.

Great location with patio experience, can hear music from the artist on the street. The layout of the restaurant is good.
However, the food is somehow pricy based on the quality, maybe because of the location?
Food is just so so, with ok service. Had much better dine in experience with another two restaurant on the following days with same budget.
Based on several times travel experience at old Quebec City. This restaurant is not recommended. Unless you are only looking for great location with patio.

Lovely place with great food. Group of 6 friends and we tried fixe prix meals - everything but the pork chop was really good. Service was a bit slow - but we were there pretty late.

This is the best restaurant I have visited in 2 trips to Quebec City (and countless meals)! Their Manhattans are made with Maker's Mark bourbon and are some of the best I have ever tasted (sorry, 2nd place to the Manhattans at a 5-star hotel roof bar in Boston). The appetizers and meals with fluffy dough crusts were like Parisian croissants hiding a magical surprise of fish or beef. The wait-staff was laid back (usual in France/Quebec) but also very attentive and bilingual. The downside (if you view it as such) is that their menu is somewhat limited with only about 4-6 choices per section (appetizer, entre, etc). The day we went they did not have a salad on the menu for a main course. That being said, the waiter had the kitchen make up a great salad as an entree, just for us! I will say that although the menu offering may be small on the day you go, EVERY dish on the menu WILL be amazing! This place seems to only put a dish on the menu if they have the fresh ingredients to do so and the kitchen has mastered the recipe and plate presentation. Reservations are recommended. All this being said, the price is unfairly low for the high quality food and drink you will get. Too bad I already have dinner reservations elsewhere for my final 2 days in Quebec city.

The place not only had nice food but amazing service as well. I believe Irbar (?) Was very kind and gave great company. The place itself has a mello/enjoyable atmosphere. I highly recommend it.

Oui pour a terrasse, car c'est la plus grande et la mieux exposée du Vieux Québec, mais pour le reste, disons que c'est un restaurant à touristes.
La nourriture et le service sont très ordinaires.

Nous avions pris des salades, car il faisait très chaud. La salade "crevetteS géanteS grilléeS" - ben il y en a 1 seule, le reste c'est de la petite crevette surgelée fade et insipide.
Concernant le service, tous ces jeunes sont plein de bonne volonté, mais on voit qu'ils manquent de métier et les pauvres sont laissés seuls, aucun encadrement, aucune aide qui leur permettrait d'apprendre et de se former. Un plateau porté avec 3 doigts (plutôt qu'avec une main en dessous) et c'est la catastrophe évidente, 3 pintes de bière écrasées au sol, éclaboussant tous les clients aux alentours.
On ramasse les morceaux et une vadrouille d'une crasse repoussante vient essuyer la boue au sol. Ecoeurant.

Bref, c'est bien d'avoir une belle terrasse, mais fournir une table et un service correct serait apprécié.

We ordered 3 drinks they werent good, ordered the steak 10 oz (pretty small) that was 49$ was bad the sauce used tasted bland tasted like alcohol, on the top it was completely burned, we also got the poutine which is very hard to mess up was bad and had one small 2 inch duck meat piece i couldnt stop laughing, we also got the burger that had completely no taste, the ban was completely wet.without complaining we paid tipped and left.the inside was completely empty with only 2 tables full but still when we asked to sit inside they said no, so we had to sit on the terrass i think they do this way to make the resto look full to attract more ppl.i wanted to rate 3 stars but the toilet was dirty and 2 knights on our table were dirty as well and service was slow.since i have a business myself i respect how important is it for a business to succeed.i noticed the place had many good comments so maybe its just my food that was bad! What a beautiful place, the staff are so pleasant, nothing is impossible for them, they will do anything to please you. The food is a bonus everything is seasoned perfectly, very well balanced meal and ration price / food. I recommend greatly. Go there, don't hesitate. Bon appetit!

Même si c'était midi et le restaurant était plein à craquer. On a été bien accueilli avec nos deux enfants et une énorme poussette!

I dinned here with a group of tourists, and the food this restaurant offers was excellent and impressing. The quantity of food was not high, but the quality was great. They worked a lot for each dish and tried their best to create a friendly and nice environment for everyone in the restaurant. (There was even a person who came in and played music) Great place to eat when you travel.
I saw someone mentioned that the prices of food were expensive. I agreed with it. However, I think that is reasonable because the demand for this restaurant was high and the people are willing to pay that price. Great place overall.

We were at the place by 6.30 and it was already full house. But the delicious food justifies the wait. We had lamb shanks and prawn scallops and both the dishes were made to perfection. The unique dressing of the delicacies added to the flavour rich cuisines. Just as we begun relishing our food was when the musician started playing the accordion. Very delightful place and the best bistro in town to try authentic French food
